May 25, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Tuesday handed over eight major roads and a two million gallon capacity Water Works to the people, promising that the phase two of the Adiyan Mini Water Works with a capacity for 75 million gallons of water a day is on the way. Governor Fashola who spoke at Meiran in continuation of his delivery of dividends of democracy to the people of Lagos where he handed over a two million gallon capacity Mini Water Works said the phase two is expected to complement the water output at the Adiyan one Waterworks. He added that the Meiran Water Works represents the seventh to be handed over by the present administration since the beginning of this year listing them as in Ojo, Mende, Epe, Isheri-Oshun, Magodo and Ajegunle. The Governor explained that in order to ensure that residents of Meiran get the water supplied to their residences, a reticulation of about five kilometers have been put in place by the water Corporation. He was certain that the issue of people carrying pails and buckets across several kilometres in search of portable is becoming a thing of the past with the efforts of the State Government in providing pipe-borne water for its teeming residents. Governor Fashola while handing over the Abule Egba/Ekoro/Agbelekale road told the residents that it is because of the intention of the Government to ensure that the same quality service enjoyed by people living in Victoria Island and Ikoyi is replicated in Meiran that the road is being handled by the same contractor Hitech that has handled similar ones in other parts of the State. He said while the Government would continue to ensure that it provides a qualitative piece of life to the people, it would be their responsibility to encourage the administration by ensuring that they pay their taxes regularly. The Governor urged the people to always obtain building approvals before they commence construction of any structure, adding that when people build without approved plans it often leads to distortion of the masterplan. He also said the various developmental projects and infrastructural improvement across the State have led to the empowerment of several classes of people, affirming that cost of renting houses in the Ekoro and Abule Egba area has gone up considerably following the construction of the roads. He however appealed to the landlord to be considerate in charging new rates. He urged the residents of areas that have not been touched by government to exercise patience, saying that all parts of the State would feel the presence of the government. The Governor also urged motorists to take cognizance of the pedestrians on the walkways provided on the roads, reminding them that pedestrians as tax payers also have a right to use the walkways unhindered. Said he: "Our work has just started. Please let everyone be patient with us. We will construct the roads in phases and ensure that they interlink. We cannot construct roads that lead nowhere. They must be linked." The Lagos State helmsman told the audience that as long as the people kept faith with the party of ideas which is the Action Congress, more goodies are still on the way coming for the people and will happen during their lifetime. At the Mancity/Olaniyi road in Ifako Ijaiye, Governor Fashola commended the spirit of service of the Local Government Chairmen in the area both past and present for being selfless and always placing service to the community above all other considerations. While emphasizing his call for peaceful coexistence, Governor Fashola said as long as the people keep the peace, respect each other's religious, ethnic beliefs and respect leaders in the society, nothing would be impossible to achieve in Lagos State. Speaking at the handing over of the Mancity/Olaniyi road, the Chairman of the Ifako Ijaiye Local Government, Mr Adeyemi Olabinjo thanked the Governor for coming to the aid of the people of the area in providing a grade A road that would help reduce pressure on the Lagos Abeokuta Express Way. Mr Olabinjo said in line with the welfarist posture of Governor Fashola, he ruled against toll collection on the road by the Local Government, pleading with Governor Fashola to assist the council with other major roads in the area. Also speaking at the Ekoro road handing over, a community leader in the area, Chief Kola Ogunjale commended the Governor for bringing smiles and comfort to the residents of the area, saying his feat is unparallelled nationwide. He added that with his experience across several nations of the world, Governor Fashola is a leader who is different and uncommon and prayed for longevity for everyone to be able to witness the transformation which Lagos is experiencing through the Governor. Governor Fashola who also drove through the Iju road which is undergoing construction was accompanied on the handing over trip by the Deputy Governor, Princess Sarah Adebisi Sosan, members of the State Executive Council, members of the State House of Assembly, Local Government Council and Local Council Development Areas Chairmen, Osun State Governorship candidate of the Action Congress in the 2007 elections, Engineer Rauf Aregbesola, National Assembly members representing the State, party leaders, community leaders and very appreciative members of host communities who came out to cheer the Governor at the various event venues. |
paddy lo. Why bother with these noisy distractions? Even if God comes waka down and give Fashola a pat on the back, these clowns go still have something to say. It's basically the nature of the beast. Their villages are in ruins and this is the only avenue of consolation for them. There's a lot of great things going on in Lagos and that's what we should keep highlighting while we ignore their baseless noise and distractions, |

^^^^You really don't have to yell or course, just make your worthless point and keep it moving. And like I said, I don't have time to waste going back n forth with you and your enemy of progress crew. Your silly noise on NL is not going to prevent Fashola from commissioning another project tomorrow and the day after tomorrow, it's not going to prevent Lagosians from applauding and singing his praise. This is just internet noise and you and your people are entitled to do just that. |
mekuszyx:But you do not lack federal representation, you have federal lawmakers/senators, federal ministers and heads of federal agencies and parastatals. It is their job to fight and look out for you and make sure your region gets what it deserves. They are not only your people, they are your elected officials. They are you federal presence. |
Otobroto:So, this is your evidence that Fashola stole money? When you are able to come up with something about the Governor stealing money and locate the money, until he gets convicted in a court of law, by the EFCC, by the state legislature, the nonsense you posted up there shall remain nothing but nonsense. Ya''ll need to go find something better to do with your time. |
Otobroto:Must you lie just to prove a silly point? Ok let me ask one more time, please show us the evidence or direct us to where ever it's at. Btw, I'm not confused, I was basically calling you out and highlighting all your pointless and worthless assertions. Like I said, you guys are nothing but a big waste of time, |
Hardtalk:So, in your superb summation and in today's Nigeria, we don't need any proof, we don't need any evidence, we don't need any trial, we should just make allegations and lock people away, including you if such allegation was ever made against you? Is this your warped and demented reasoning? Some of you need to at least pretend you saw the four corner walls of a school. |
Otobroto:Trust me, I'm trying very hard to flow with what you're peddling. Is it your understanding that Fashola is a thief because some folks made some unsubstantiated accusations? Is it your understanding that you, any Lagosian/civil servant could be called or labeled a crook without trial or conviction by any court, crime fighting agency or the legislature just because some people claimed so? Is it your understanding that because the State judiciary is asking the State house to follow due process in the true spirit of democracy = Fashola don't want to be probed? Look here, I know you guys are dying to head back to the Jungulistic anything goes Lagos of pre-Fashola, the is new Lagos where every citizen of Lagos state is blessed with constitutional rights, protection and due process. You posted some story about the AG asking the folks under him and within the state Government not to participate in illegal probe and activities because of judicial injunction by a state court. He is basically doing his rightful duty by making sure that the court ruling is recognized and should be honored. Again, this is new Lagos where people obey the laws of the land. If Fashola is guilty of any crime, the EFCC is there and they are investigating the Governor, the state legislature is capable of getting to the bottom of the matter, they just need to follow state rules and obey state laws and respect the judiciary. You are here claiming that the governor is a crook, but till this very minute, you are yet to show me what he stole, just allegations about inflated contracts. Even the people making the allegations don't have any thing to back up there claim. You guys are nothing but distraction and a big waste of time, you reason like elementary school kids. |
Otobroto:I asked you to show proof that he stole money, not to come up with the same tired and baseless nonsense. Show me where he stole money, how much he stole and where he kept the money or go peddle your crap elsewhere. And what's a citizen of Lagos State's lawsuit against the probe got to do with Fashola? Instead of the same innuendos, why don't you just go ahead and tell us that Fashola is behind the injunctions, also make sure to tell us how he did it, how much he's paying to have it done and who he's paying. I'm counting on the fact that you have all the facts, so please don't disappoint, show us your proof and facts. And if you still don't have any, maybe you need to keep quiet and go find something better to do with your time. |
Fashola Commissions 11 Projects In Badagry, Ojo in one single day, Fashola Commissions 11 Projects In Badagry, Ojo • Calls for peace among communities to enhance development May 20, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Thursday commissioned a total of 11 projects in Badagry and Ojo Local Government areas with a call on the communities to keep the peace in order to enhance development. In Badagry Local Government, the Governor handed over three major roads – Joseph Dosu Street, Old Cemetery Road and Market Street - and a Drivers' Institute in Badagry town, , a Micro Water Scheme in Apa, a Water Jetty in Igbo-Igele, a community hall in Ajara Agelaso while in Ojo Local Government Area, the Governor Fashola also handed over a network of three roads – Shibiri Etegbin Road, Imude Road and Ajangbadi-Ilogbo Road and a Mini Water Works in Ajangbadi town. Speaking in Apa Community where he commissioned a Micro Water Scheme, Governor Fashola, who reminded the people that it was in fulfillment of his campaign promise to them, pointed out that the water scheme was one of the priority projects demanded by the people during the need assessment tour of the area. Governor Fashola said in embarking on such projects, the State Government is conscious of the need to bring development to the rural communities in order to stem the tide of rural urban migration which, according to him, has created problems both locally and internationally. According to him, "Rural urban migration has created slums in many cities not only in Nigeria but other countries of the world". It has added to the congestion problem in the urban areas and we know that it is not all of you that want to leave the rural areas if you have what you want here". "If you have Education, if you have Healthcare, if you have water supply, if you have electricity, many of you want to live very simple lives with your families, with your children and this is what we have set out to do, to provide what you want, to provide Education, to provide primary healthcare centres, to provide integrated facilities that will help those who want to do business, the farmers, the food processors, the fishermen", the Governor said. Handing over the project, Governor Fashola declared, "Make no mistake about it; this is not our solution to water supply in this area. This is a short term measure, to alleviate poverty, to stem water borne diseases, to give these little children the same chance that I had to live long to be somebody great". Highlighting the Tourism potentials of Badagry while handing over other projects in other areas, the Governor said, "The prospects that this part of our State- Badagry- holds for the future of our State, for the future of our country, are enormous. I have said often times that not only do Badagry hold many opportunities; it holds the key for releasing the Tourism economy of Lagos". Adding, Tourism is about destination because if you can't get there then there is no Tourism". "The tourism potentials of Badagry like the Zangbeto masquerades, the various historical points and places like the slaves relics can compete favourably with what is obtainable elsewhere", he said, adding that it is the same set of tourist attractions that people pay hard currency to travel overseas to watch as tourist sites. The Governor reiterated that this is one of the reasons that informed the decision of the State Government to embark on the expansion of the Lagos-Badagry Expressway so as to make it easy to come in easily and go out without pains. He expressed the commitment of the present administration to reach and meet the need of Lagosians and urged them to exercise patience, stressing that all parts of the State would feel the impact of the administration in one way or the other. Calling on the people of Badagry to embrace peace at all times, Governor Fashola declared, "It is only in a peaceful atmosphere that development can thrive. There are several mechanism that could be made use of to resolve conflicts and you can embrace these mechanisms to ensure peace among you." At the Ajangbadi Water Works, Governor Fashola said the Water Works represents the sixth Waterworks to be commissioned by the State since the beginning of the year, adding a total stock of 12million gallons till date. He revealed that a total of 15 Water Works are being planned for the State as one half of the measures to improve water supply in the State. "The other half is the improvement which has come into place at the Iju and Adiyan Water Works which is now producing almost 100 million gallons a day compared to the 35million it was producing before due to the provision of an Independent Power Project." Governor Fashola reiterated that during the electioneering campaigns the people only asked for the upgrading of the Joseph Dosu and Market roads but that the State Government found it necessary to include Cemetery Road because of its belief that the road holds a key to the prosperity of the area because of its strategic importance to commerce and industry. "Our State is growing in leaps and bounds. We are always thinking ahead. For all those who seek to come and live in our State, they are always welcome" Governor Fashola said. Speaking earlier at the handing over of the Joseph Dosu Road, Cemetery Road and Market Street, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Works and Infrastructure, Engineer Ganiyu Johnson said in line with the standards set by Governor Fashola, the three roads have been rehabilitated and upgraded with walkways, street lights, drainage facilities and service ducts. He added that the ancient town of Badagry is beginning to receive a facelift as quite a number of other works are still going on around the town while a few more are still in the pipeline and would commence very soon. Also speaking at the handing over of Shibiri-Etegbin, Imude and Ajangbadi-Ilogbo roads in Ojo Local Government, the Special Adviser implored residents, road users, the corporate community and the CDAs to assume ownership of the roads and ensure that all forms of abuse, including cutting across or along the road are prevented as provisions have been made for service ducts to accommodate underground services. The Governor who carried on with the commissions and handover of projects, which witnessed huge turn out of appreciative residents, in spite of rain showers at some of the venues was accompanied on the trips by members of the State Executive Council, members of the National Assembly representing Lagos, some members of the State House of Assembly, elected Local Government Councils and Local Council Development Areas Chairmen, leaders of the Action Congress and very enthusiastic members of the different host communities who trooped out in their thousands to witness the events. |
Otobroto:Forget about my space journey and answer my question since you have all the facts. Please answer. |
Otobroto:But do you have any proof that the man stole a dime and did the man asked not to be probed. What mentality |
Hardtalk:The man is a crook. I heard he's bribing the judges, |
Hardtalk:He did already, have you not heard about the billions of dollars in his swiss account? EFCC go arrest am tomorrow too, |
Hardtalk:His foreign and out of state example was irrelevant because this topic has nothing to do with whatever state he referenced. This is about Lagos State. The government is different The people are different They have different level of social understanding and sophistication They Don't award contracts in the same manner They have different outlook and sense of responsibility There are no white elephants and abandoned projects in The Great State Of Lagos. Like I said, if you want to make a case about abandoned projects in Lagos state, show me one or two in Lagos State. Governance and leadership is not the same in every state, telling me about some abandoned projects in another state was totally off topic, it's absolutely worthless reasoning. And this is for you as an example, is it safe to conclude that you a thief, corrupt and crooked person because some Nigerians are? Some of you folks reason like a day old baby, |
gidson12:Exactly as stated, |
Our-turn:Must you mention your village or compare your village with The Great of Lagos? We are talking about Lagos State, not some Micky mouse state and Governor wannabee local government counselor. Who gives a freeking damn about what some governor is doing in Akwa or what ever you call it? Shouldn't you be telling me the number of white elephants and unfinished projects in Lagos state if you really wanna make a case? |
Our-turn:When there's none, you complain, when there's something, you b@it/ch moan and complain again. Nigerians are just funny animals, |
Lagos end of the Lagos Ibadan Expressway. Fashola Commissions 20 Bed Accidents And Emergency Centre …Restates commitment to save lives when road traffic accidents occur May 13, 2010 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN) on Thursday restated his administration's commitment to save lives when road traffic accidents unavoidably occur as he handed over a twenty-bed trauma centre located at the Lagos end of the Lagos Ibadan Expressway. The facility with full complements of staff and with both stabilization and treatment capacities for minor surgeries, laboratory and pharmaceutical services among others is aimed at ensuring victims of road accidents receive prompt medical attention to stabilize them and hopefully save their lives. Governor Fashola, who noted that year-in-year-out ,statistics have been rolled out about how many lives are lost in the country as a result of fatalities of road traffic accidents, explained that the commissioning of the trauma centre was a demonstration of the administration's resolve to lead change and take steps to correct what is unacceptable. The Governor declared, " while I acknowledge that efforts are being made at various levels of government to prevent accident, the reality is that preventive strategies alone will not save lives because even if we succeed in getting over all the human elements and errors that cause accidents, there will still be road traffic accidents that are unforeseeable and therefore, unpreventable". "There will always be accidents due to mechanical failures, natural disasters and so much more and there will still be victims of road traffic accidents who must be saved from avoidable deaths", the Lagos State Governor said, explaining that while policies and programmes like driver education at the Drivers' Institutes, LASTMA traffic monitoring agency, Traffic Marshall Scheme, advocacy programmes are welcome and needed, they will not on their own be adequate to discharge the obligation to save life and property. Said he; "The truth of whether or not accident victims will survive and recover depends not only on the level of medical care that they get but most importantly on how quickly they get it". In his words: "Just a little about two years ago, I was just driving into Lagos on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when an accident occurred ahead of us. We had to stop to help the victims with the ambulance and towing truck that I had attached permanently to my convoy in order to rescue victims. That was the day the necessity of for this kind of Trauma Centre came to my mind". He added that after the experience, the issue was debated the State Executive Council and it was collectively agreed that this life saving facility be constructed, adding, "As I hand over this facility today, to the Glory of God and in the hope that the facility will become a strategic resource in the process of saving lives, I wish to assert that it is not enough for Lagos alone enough to do this and I do sincerely hope that States that share boundaries with us will be persuaded in the way that we have been, to make investments of this type at their State boundaries of this highway and other highways". Earlier in his welcome address, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Jide Idris, said one of the strategies adopted by the present administration to address the increasing incidents of road traffic accidents is to upgrade emergency medical services along the major highways in the State. According to the Commissioner, "Road traffic accidents along our highways are assuming increasing public health significance and significantly contributing to the increasing morbidity and mortality trend among the population". Dr. Idris said the conceptualization and design of the centre is embedded in the infrastructural development plan for the Health Sector and is aimed at the delivery of prompt and efficient emergency medical care with adequate staff to provide 24 hour emergency medical and surgical services. Also present at the occasion were the Commissioner for Sports, Youths and Social Development, Prince Ademola Adeniji-Adele, his Agriculture and Cooperatives counterpart, Chief Enock Ajiboso, top officials of the Health Ministry, Local Government Chairmen and other top government functionaries. |

From Emeka Anuforo, Abuja WORK is set to commence on the largest port in Nigeria. The port, to be situated in Lagos, will largely service the Lagos Free Trade Zone and the Lekki Free Zone, which have yearned for a port to make their operations a success. The port is a deep ship port measuring about 16, 18 meters draft and would have the capacity to accommodate the biggest ship in the world. Apapa port is only 11 meters draft. Executive Director of Viva Methanol Lagos Free Trade Zone enterprise, Mr. John Mastoroudes told visiting journalists on Wednesday that his company was committing $2 billion into the project, while other investors would bring in different levels of support. He disclosed that about eight foreign company and one Nigerian company had submitted bids for the construction of the port. Work, he said, would commence on the port next January. The Nigerian Ports Authority has a 28 per cent stake in the project, which will be able to take the biggest ship in the world. Mastoroudes said, "our group alone is putting in about $2 billion dollars excluding what other investors are brining in to support the project. The port will take three years to complete. Nine firms have bidded for the port. We are currently analysing their bids. "Let me point out that we have a long list of investors waiting to come in and invest in the free zones in Nigeria. Infrastructure has been the greatest challenge for all of us. I am optimistic that once they see how serious we are about making the port project a reality, they will flood Nigeria." Meanwhile, the Nigeria Export Processing Zones Authority (NEPZA) has tasked investors, who have secured licenses to operate free zones Nigeria to look beyond government and source for investors to commit money to tackling some of the infrastructure challenges in the zones. General Manager at the agency, Mr. Chris Ndibe stressed that all over the world, investors do not necessarily wait for government to provide some of the infrastructure required at the zones. Ndibe, who spoke when he led a team of journalists to the Lekki Free Zone, Ibeju Lekki, stressed that the operators of the zones should lure world class investors who would be willing to provide the infrastructures required through some kind of build, operate and transfer. "Several factors are responsible for the adoption of Free Zones Scheme in Nigeria, amongst which are the diversifications of the revenue base of the economy, employment generation and to encourage export through local production. The enabling act also confers on the authority the power to approve and grant all licenses and permits to the exclusion of all other agencies enforce obedience and compliance to rules and regulations. In effect, the act is an omnibus law, which permits the Authority and its Board the power to define the policy directions and provide a one-stop-shop business transaction without bureaucracy," he said. Deputy Managing Director of the Lekki Free Zone Development Company, Mr. Adeyemo Thompson stressed that the company would develop an offshore economic growth zone, attract foreign investments, promote export, create job opportunities, minimise capital flight and establish a one step global business haven. He said, "we hope to do this by engaging directly in the economic development of Nigeria by providing a choice for investors in the most conducive free zone business environment that will be recognised for setting standards of excellence." |
Kobojunkie:Only a sadist wars against joyous celebrations. How do you quantify celebration to determine over and not over? do celebrations comes in small, large and extra large ? Is it even against the law sef? Obviously, you are against everything, I honestly think you are against yourself, |
gbengapro:What's wrong with people showing up to celebrate developments in their neighborhoods? It's not like they chained and forced them to show up. This is very normal and they do it everywhere. It's called neighborhood pride, This needless bad belle thing is not even making any freeking sense anymore, |
Osama10:Were you not saying just yesterday that his priorities are misplaced, So why advocate for other state governors to emulate the governor with misplaced priorities? There's just too many bipolar people on NL I swear, |

Kobojunkie:Why keep going on and on about what the state is doing we know what they are doing. What they are doing has nothing to do with what you have been advocating which is that the governor should circumvent due process, invite himself before the panel and force documents on the panel without being asked to do so. You have been running around with bogus allegations that you and the original peddlers can not prove and have no documentation to back up. Quit trying to cloth tie yourself to what the panel is doing because what the panel is doing and what you've been advocating are 2 different things, |
