Fashola Offers Recipe For Accelerated Development Of Lagos
…As Oluwole Urban Market is commissioned

Governor Fashola, who spoke at the official commissioning of the first phase of the New Oluwole Urban Market in Central Lagos, also disclosed that the State Government is embarking on a total re-planning of the Island along with other parts of the State.

The Governor said the successful development of the former Oluwole slum should serve as an eye-opener to families owning lands in other slums that now constitute eyesore in the Island adding, “I have often said, the Lagos of our dreams is daily getting within our reach”.

Pointing out that the Oluwole Model could be used to rebuild offices, create new flats and apartments for residential purposes in the Lagos Central Business District, Governor Fashola solicited, “We encouraged families to do what we have done here whenever they can agree and pool their small parcels of land together to attract investment support”

“This is the way we can re-build Isale Eko, Offin, Olowogbowo, Oke-Arin, Balogun, Kakawa and so many other parts of our historic and beautiful Island”, the Governor said advising that all involved should use the services of professionals such as Architects, Estate Surveyors, Lawyers, Town planners and others in order to ensure that the proper thing is done.

kobojunkie, adcoline and knowall ( lol) i really don't understand why you guys are so against the airport project.   like someone already said, the airport is part of the lekki free trade zone agreement. why not let those who know best decide what to do? fashola has been doing a good job so far so i think there is good reason to trust his ideas.

Could you answer my questions please?  On a scale of 1 to 10 where does a new airport rank amongst the needs of Lagosians? Do you go shopping for a jacuzzi when u ve got no running water. Show me facts not emotions?
Don't you at  least first have to convince us with the master plan that the airport is strictly  for the average  Lagosians and not for the LFT/Not a requirement by the people funding the LFT to have a dedicated airport for cargo and other business activities.

Do that first before asking ignorant questions.

It seems that some people here do not know that the Lekki International Airport project is part of the Lekki Free Trade zone project. Part of the deal to investors was that there would be a world class airport in the area.  If you haven't seen the video for Lekki Free trade zone go and take a look at it. It's a whole new city.

With this new airport will mostly likely come more hotels, shopping malls, etc that will employ Nigerians. So there are job opportunities that come with a project of this size. One of the important things about placing an airport in Lekki is tourism. One of the best ways to generate money is through tourism and the first and last impression that visitors get of a country tends to be the airport. So if Lagos has a world class airport, it does a lot for image.

I'm sure there are other places where that N73 billion naira can be spent, but Lagos just raised over N50 billion on the bond market that they say they will use to construct schools, hospitals, and other social amenities.

Saying they can not proceed till the fake True Face of Lagos furnish them with evidence of its allegation against the governor got me chuckling. What an unfortunate statement thing ti say?, especially  after grandstanding for months about the silly allegations.

Are they now saying they set up the silly crew to investigate the Governor without first securing documentation for what they set out to investigate?

Have they subpoena any arm of the Lagos state government involved for documentation and testimony?

Have they subpoena the so called contractors and front men? Are they not on the silly list the clueless poster in this thread posted?

I dont want to believe there are no more lands in Lagos. Have they been to Ikorodu and Epe? It is just that, the rich are just trying to enlarge the gap between them and the poor. If indeed the government knows what they are doing, they should evenly distribute these infrastructure, except for some, that needs to be sighted in some strategic areas. My major concern here now is, why concentrate all these in just Victoria Island/Ikoyi/and Lekki?
Every inch of Lagos has a master plan.

To develop any area, you have to create access like roads, freeways and bridges. Lagos Badagry express is opening up access to all the towns and villages along the West Africa trade routes.

The $1.5 billion Lagos Energy city in Badagry was designed take some pressure off  Victoria Island/Ikoyi/and Lekki. Lagos Energy City is positioned to be the first integrated energy hub catering to the needs of all major conglomerates in West Africa with facilities ranging from Convention and Exhibition Centre to two Five-Star Hotels, a Boutique Hotel, Luxury Ocean-view villas, schools, sports complex, mega malls and medical facilities.

Lekki - Epe express was designed not to only ease traffic, but to open up major farming and light industrial activities in Epe. Epe is fast boomong because of these activities.

Listening to hateful and clueless folks on NL is not always the best thing to do when seeking crucial info about Lagos state.

I'm a Lagosian and it's my civic obligation to know what's going on in and around my state,  unlike some folks here who don't even know the name of the EZE in their village.

What about places like Ikorodu and surrounding Local Government areas? We have millions of people in these areas who would love if it the government would focus, even half of the attention it does to the Lekki/VI/Ikoyi area. At least to help bring some of that money our way. I don't believe it is not anti poverty, according to your language there, to want that some of that money to be spread around other parts of Lagos, or do you? Thousands of businesses have had to lay off so many in my area alone.
I don't know why people pay you any freeking attention.

You open your freeking mouth with zero clue per what's coming out of it.

Ikorodu and the so called surrounding areas are are the fastest developing areas in Lagos state. Ikorodu itself is a bonafide industrial area. Tons of factories, fisheries, Energy and oil are located in Ikorodu.

Falcon Petroleum petroleum just laid industrial gas pipeline from lagos proper to Gas City Gate at Odogunyan in Ikorodu to service the industries in the area.

Dangote is in Ikorodu, United Nigeria Textiles Limited is in Ikorodu. Ikorodu GRA I, II is there and III is in the works.

A major jetty is under construction in Ikorodu.

Just last February, Fashola, commissioned 5 major projects in Ikorodu in one single day. From 265 housing units to  Maternal and Child Care Centre, Water Works, Driver's institute and a Shopping Complex.

Even NEGRIS is constructing a 100MW electricity project in Ikorodu to service the industrial estate.

All those speaking against the airport are doing so based on a very illiterate understanding on the concept of PPPs.
This project is a public private partnership. In most cases, the money used for the project would be sourced form the private sector.
The concessionaire would have to make returns on his investment for crying out loud!

Mr Teacher Sir,
What would be public involvement in this project? Why is it a partnership if the public is not going to cough up some dough? Are you saying that this is 100% private sector project? Are you going to include Land, govt largesse and concessions that will follow? Why cant PPP build house or power stations? Don’t you think that capital for housing is less, but with higher returns than building an airport? All PPP can build roads and charge toll fees.
The point is that the elite want to build a gigantic airport to congratulate themselves that we have arrived, so that we can now dine and wine with the Queen, but fact still remains that most Lagosians do not have basic amenities of life. Do know how much he would make if he built roads and installed toll ways, provided water and waste management since most people use these on daily basis? In Maslow's hierarchy of needs, where does airport fit in?
I thought he said "In most cases" In most and in all have 2 different interpretations.

What's wrong with the Government giving ups something to benefit the same public.

Btw, so if I be one of the lucky hundreds of people wey go dey collect paychecks from the elite airport, my landlord go reject my rent money because na elite airport I get am from.

So what about the possibility of opening the state and by extension the country to the world or the idea of making it a bigger, more modern and more efficient travel and business hub in west Africa (which I believe is the vision)? When it provides more capacity for businesses to expand and grow who benefits from that? Only the elite? Is growth to you all about giving food handouts? KnowAll:
[size=14pt]A State where land is at a premium, to build another huge airport in what is continually and gradually becoming a very scarce commodity is not the best way to optimise land resources. What Lagos should be doing in the Lekki corridor is build upwards and not vertically, if current trend is not put on hold,  Lagos would not have land to build more important infrastructures that have yet to be conceived by good leaders and visonaries of tommorrow.

They should liase with the FG, so that they can expand MMA,  the land in Lekki currently pencilled for an airport can be used for something else in future. Even if the present goverment does not know what to do with the land in the lekki corridor , subsequent Governos of the state might have a better idea on how to maximise their scarce resources.

What Fashola should do, if he has ran out of ideas as per what the next development leap should be around Lekki is,  he should in the interim build nice huge park for now and whem someone with a better idea who knows what to do with the land takes over the mantle of the state, that person can convert the park to whatever he feels the city needs at the time. An airport is a No, No for now. It does not make sense building a brand new airport 20 miles from the old airport when the city is lacking and yearning for more major infrastructures.

Why don't Fashola concentrate on Eko Atalntic city and the light rail road  for now, deliver those and get the accolades that comes with it,  rather than trying to juggle 4 or 5 major projects at once. At least for now, none of the major projects embarked upon by his admnistration has been completed except of course planting flowers, painting side walks and round-abouts and filling pot holes. undecided Forget to mention he completed Tinubu's BRT Bus service, I commend him for that.

A lot of people don't know anything about Lagos, but they'll hate and talk about Lagos by any means necessary.

The Airport is needed for so many reasons and I'm glad the state is looking ahead and making the right calculations.

The mains factors driving the need for the new airport are the LEKKI FREE TRADE ZONE, Eko Atlantic, Hyper business travel and Tourism.

Every lousy fed infrastructure in Lagos  is crumbling and every time the state tries to lift a finger, the idiots acts s$ity, just like Lagos badagry express,

Besides, the state has nothing to do with MMA, the old and neglected relic belongs to the federal government, the state  can not paint it, they can not fix the dangling electric wires in the lobby, even the road sef the state offered to fix caused federal anger. They can keep their airport or lift it up and ship it to Abuja or wherever.

The free trade zone alone is enough justification for the new airport, MMA obviously can not handle mass cargo 24/7

I'm glad that we have proactive leaders in Lagos state.

It makes no sense going back and forth with shallow thinking people on NL, it doesn't matter what the state is doing or not doing, they'll always have some dumb and silly thing to say. They don't know Lagos, they don't give a dam about Lagos and Lagosians.

Obviously, the fact that Lagos state is fast moving ahead while their states, towns and villages still dey stone age they kill them

Assembly probe panel demands evidence from True Face of Lagos

Members of the seven-man Lagos state House of Assembly probe panel, investigating allegations of financial mismanagement levelled against the state governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), on Tuesday demanded that the True Face of Lagos substantiate its allegations.

The Deputy Majority Leader and Chairman of the panel, Dr. Ajibayo Adeyeye, during the proceeding said that work of the body could not proceed if the True Face of Lagos was unable to provide evidence of its allegation against the governor .
Why set up the stupid panel without credible proof of wrong doing to start with? Why drag a man's name trough the mud without asking the people making the allegations to show proof before even talking about setting up any panel?

Kobo is back with his/her pointless and silly arguments.

For starters, the deal is having Fashola public account fort his actions. Any sane and reasonable human being knows the only way and avenue for that to happen is within the 4 corner walls of a court of Law. It's absolutely moronic to ask the Governor to stand on the sidewalk and yell to Lagosians what he did or didn't do.

I know Kobo and other loonies like forpeace are off the deep end, but let's just say they have a point per the Governor should publicly address the allegations (Though only stupid idiots and fools addresses allegations in public and I don't expect a lawyer like the Governor himself to make such stupid and ignorant move)

What if the Governor actually addressed the allegations in public and publicly proclaimed his innocence? Are you gonna then say he is innocent because he did exactly what you demanded and end of story or he is still guilty even after doing what you demanded? What if he hands are really not clean? What next? See how stupid and dumb your arguments are?

Kobo, I know you don't think with your head, you think with hatred and odious bad belle, the only way to address this issue is for the group making the allegations to insert their TOP secrete evidence against the governor in the dailies just like they dd with their stupid advertorials for Lagosians to read and see. We are yet to see anything simply because they have nothing beyond their words of mouth claims.

How come the legislators are now telling the group to f-uc-k off and take their allegations directly to the Governor?

How come the legislators are not deploying their powers to subpoena proofs and other evidence from the Governor and the group?

How come the group is not taking it's case to the courts if they really have something to prove?

How come they haven't done what's expected in any sane and civilized society, like taking their case to the state attorney general for further investigation and prosecution?

Funny enough, the dumb and moronic legislature didn't ask the group to produce facts and documented evidence to cement and lend credibility to their bogus allegations. Furthermore, the lawmakers are part of the government and have access to all paper trails within the government, they even have constitutional authority to subpoena documents from the executive and other government agencies, even from the group making the allegations and till this very second, they're yet to ask or show genuine efforts as a serious legislative body with good and honorable intentions.

It is safe to conclude that they care less about the truth, they are obviously carrying other people's water bottle.

As for the group making the allegations, if they really want to nail Fashola and instead of wasting money on advertorials, why not just print the smoking gun/s and other critical evidence against the governor in the newspapers for the whole of Lagos to read? Why are they not taking their allegations to the courts? Why have they not submitted their evidence to the state attorney general? Is this not how it's done civilized societies?

Are they doubling down on the lawmakers because the threshold per proving their case is very low and doing so in a court of law is too high because no court go give them the time of the day to sue or petition without proof or evidence of wrong doing.

They obviously picked the only colluding entity with similar sinister interests where they have zero obligation to show proof that Lagosians deserve to have their Governor take away from them.

For now, it's just talk. I'm so proud of the Governor for not responding to their silly nonsense and doing what we put him in office to do.

This is 2010, Lagosians are not silly and the courts are not entities for banana justice.
