You have not yet answered my questions of funds for the execution and time span.He said that he will not contest for second term. How will he make those plans come through if he does not desire to stay long on that sit considering the time frame needed to execute these projects?
Quit spreading rumor jare. he said he don't wanna be distracted with all the re-election talk and all he wanna do is concentrate on what lagosians tasked him to do.

Exactly wetin I expect from a thoughtful and reasonable human being like Fashola.

Lagos flags-off digital mapping, geographical info system

Digital mapping is the process by which a collection of street data from a location is compiled and formatted into a virtual image. The primary function of this technology is to produce maps that give accurate representations of a particular area, detailing major road arteries and other points of interest that would be invaluable to a user mapping the distance from one place to another. Though digital mapping can be found in a variety of computer applications, such as Google Earth, the main use of these maps is with the Global Positioning System, or GPS satellite network, used in standard automotive navigation systems.

The roots of digital mapping lie within traditional paper maps such as the Thomas Guide. Paper maps provide basic landscapes similar to digitised road maps, yet are often cumbersome, cover only a designated area, and lack many specific details such as roadblocks. In addition, there is no way to "update" a paper map except to obtain a new version. On the other hand, digital maps, in many cases, can be updated through synchronisation with updates from company servers.

Afam-

For what it's worth, people love Fashola for a whole lot of reasons, not just because he's building roads and bridges, they equally love his style, personal character and governing style. Dude pulled them back from the edge of abyss and total destruction and he  is not your average Nigerian politician.

Simple stuff like riding around Lagos without sirens blasting and mopol beating people to clear road endeared a lot of people.

You might want to visit his website sometimes. Dude is out every single day doing something and touching people's lives, just check the dates on the pics and videos.

fashola is good relative to his predecessors. But i will not be dragged into the bandwagon of praisesinging him. Given the huge resources at his disposal, more is expected of him. lagos state is still far from civility. More buildings need to give way for good roads and pedestrian walkways. all shanties and makeshift lock up shops should be demolished. drainages ought to be evacuated. molues and okadas should leave the roads.more bridges and ringroads to aid traffic decongestion. slums should be evacuated and in its stead gardens and parks. if he lacks the will, let him consult El Rufai. finally, let him strip himself of Tinubu and his coterie of Agberos.
Obeviously, Fashola can not fix decades of neglect and poor planing in 2 years and a lot state gov' and even abuja sef get money at their disposal, all they do is neglect their responsibilities and stash away all the money inside personal accounts.

lol @ let him consult El Rufai as if fashola get the luxury of a planed and ready made city from the gets,

The Connection,

‘You’re The Best Among Us’—Gov Jang Praises Fashola

The rating of the Lagos state governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), went up another notch in faraway Jos, the Plateau state capital, where the Plateau state governor, General Jonah Jang (retd), declared him the best among his counterparts in the country.

Governor Jang, who was speaking while receiving his Lagos state counterpart, who paid him a courtesy visit, declared that, “I must say honestly that I rate you the best among us in terms of development in the states we preside over.” The governor, who noted that there is need for state governors to exchange official visits in order to learn from one another, also requested his visitor to consider extending an invitation to him to enable him pay an official visit to Lagos at a later date, to, in the governor’s words, “take a look at what you are doing.

“We should start paying one another state visits to learn from what each of us is doing. Irrespective of our different political parties, we have a lot to learn from one another,
and I believe, it is not time for politics, as the president said, it is time to work for the nation,” Jang said. According to him, to work effectively for the nation and our different states, “we should be able to exchange ideas by paying one another official visits,” adding that he has already focused his eyes on the areas of revenue generation and security where he would like to tap from Fashola’s wisdom.

“I am watching your revenue generating system very carefully and we are trying to borrow from you by asking those who are working for you to come and look at our own state,” the Plateau state governor said. Also commending Fashola on the success of his security system in Lagos state, Jang declared; “Again, the former I.G., Smith, told me that he was chairman of the security system you set up and today we hardly hear of armed robbery in Lagos state. I agree again that this is what we have to learn from you, aside from physical development.”

Governor Jang, who said he spent 12 years in Lagos during his service years, recalled how difficult Lagos was then in terms of moving from one point to another, and commended his visitor for the tremendous transformation that Lagos state has recorded in many areas, especially in transportation and the environment. Wishing governor Fashola a happy period in the state, the Plateau state governor,, who noted that the National Economic Council (NEC) also has some top military officers as members, expressed delight that, with his wealth of experience as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria, the Lagos state governor will impact on the council membership what democracy is all about.

Earlier in his remarks, governor Fashola told his host that he was in the state on the invitation of the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru, adding that, “I thought it would be an act of discourtesy to embark on a visit to that institution without extending courtesy to my brother, the governor of Plateau state.” Governor Fashola said the visit also afforded him the opportunity to congratulate his host and the people of Plateau state for the recent installation of the new Gbom Gwom Jos, which he described as “a most respected traditional institution.” Recalling that governor Jang could not attend the NEC meeting in Abuja, on Tuesday, because he was playing host to another very important institution that has helped foster religious tolerance and peaceful coexistence among the people, the Lagos state governor commended his host for the peace existing in the state.

Kidnappers free Anambra transporter, Chief Godwin Okeke

Chairman of GUO Transport Company Godwin Okeke has been released; kidnappers who seized the businesman yesterday at All Saints Church on Awka Road, Onitsha released him at 7:30 PM Nigerian time.

Family sources said he was released with "gun wounds", they did not elaborate if his abductors shot him. Another source told Saharareporters that Chief Okeke’s family members paid several millions of naira in ransom money to effect his release.

This has nothing 2 do wit Igbos and Biafra dis is all about national security, instead of u 2 suggest a solution 2 dis kidnapping saga u are there talking rubbish.just leave Igbos out of dis if u dont want trouble.
Too bad you guys no dey give other people the same leeway and consideration.

Although we can not Ignore the National security implications but right now, it's mainly a south eastern Nigerian thing/phenomenon, deal with it and quit passing the buck as usual.

It's also a local problem, not a national problem. Joblessness and hopelessness is not limited to south eastern Nigeria so why kidnap and kill your own brothers and sisters for money?

This is nothing but greed, meanness, and gross social decay. There is a broken link and separation somewhere within the Igbo community, something that makes the life of a fellow Igbo man, woman and child dispensable and prized for monetary reward.

Unfortunately and as usual, this is gonna be blamed on other people and entities,

These Kidnappings And The Destruction Of Igbo Nation: Why Ndigbo Should Be Worried

These Kidnappings And The Destruction Of Igbo Nation Print
Written by Churchill Obinna Okonkwo
Monday, 15 June 2009 18:00
The chieftaincy titles, the knighthood in the churches, the traditional leaderships, the spoke’s person and all the prestigious positions in all facets of Igbo society should size to be exclusive reserve of the rich. A nation that worships wealth they say shall live to destroy itself.

In the poem “The Second Coming" published in 1921, William Butler Yeats wrote that “… everywhere the ceremony of innocence is drowned; the best lack conviction, while the worst are full of passionate intensity.” Kidnapping with passionate intensity is the only way one can describe the present situation in South Eastern Nigeria.

The worst of Ndigbo appears to have arrived and taken control of their lives, redefining their value system, traditional believes, morality, and everything they used to know and cherish. While acknowledging that moral decadence in our society cuts across almost all the ethnic nationalities in Nigeria, the alacrity with which the worst in Ndigbo have pervaded their societies and are now seen as role models calls for a critical examination.

I will use the recent wave of kidnappings in Igbo states to drive home my points. It is no longer news that the risks of kidnapping is now higher in south east Nigeria than in Niger Delta region. The passionate intensity with which some umu afo Igbo (sons of the soil) have taken to the act of kidnapping has left me bewildered. To make a clear distinction between why there is happening in Igbo land and not in the middle belt, northern Nigeria or western Nigeria, you need to try and answer this question; If the act of kidnapping is a reflection of the absence of law and order in Nigeria as a whole, why must it be in Igbo land that it has turned into a money making venture without any other cause or justification other than greed?

What started in Niger Delta as an act of protest against the environmental injustices and struggle over resource control which later deteriorated to acts of vandalism, greed, and money making venture has been hijacked, redefined and perfected by “faceless” vandals in south east Nigeria. The worst amongst Ndigbo are gradually taking over reigns of power and as these vandals drives fear into the poor masses.

Among the south eastern states, Anambra state appears to be the worst. There have been cases where the family of poor hostages who couldn’t afford to pay the huge ransom were snookered into selling plots of family land to raise the money by the kidnappers. There was a case where 20 million Naira was demanded and the captive’s family could only come up with 5 million Naira. And you know what the kidnappers did? The killed their hostage and told the family members where to go pick up the corpse and perform the burial ceremony with the 5 million. Just pause and think of that and the callousness.

It all started with the erosion of the sense of shame, courtesy, right and wrong in the past three decades. Amplified with reorientation of the traditional core values of honesty, integrity, equity, communal social responsibility and replaced by greed to get rich at all cost. Very soon, the people that matters, listened to and worshiped in the societies and villages became people that got rich overnight whose sources of wealth, to say the least are most times questionable.

Thus, Ndigbo had the era of Nnukwu Mmanwus (the big masquerades) and the Otimkpus (the praise singers). Igbu ozu became the yard stick to measure responsibility and acceptance in the society. They had the Otokoto era and the Edie Nogu scandals. Bakassi Boys have come and gone.

The prestigious place of civil servants and teachers in the villages were displaced in a chemical reaction that has cash, cars and greed as catalysts resulting in an unbalanced equation. Men who wanted to belong ebe ife na-eme (where things are happening) fled the civil service and teaching. Those who remained turned their offices and class rooms to business centers.

The 4th republic witnessed the first coming to age of the products of that greedy era. The Nnamanis, Mbadinujus, Kalus, Ubahs, Nzeribes and the likes. These acts of kidnapping is a graduation and marks the second coming of the beasts.

Meanwhile, the innocence has been silenced and drowned in Igbo land. The political beasts have rigged their way into elective offices. The traditional value system has been eroded and replaced by greed. Things have fallen apart and anarchy is gradually staring Ndigbo in the face.

I think it’s time for Ndigbo to re-evaluate their value system. Who do Ndigbo see as their role models? What do they cherish and value? What do parents wish for their children? What do a parent who takes a child out of a secondary school and pay their ways for the child to excel in exams through malpractice expect from that generation in ten years time?

Now back to the act of kidnapping for ransom. What drives this present wave of kidnapping in Igbo land? It is greed to get rich in order to belong to that new class of people that has arrived in the society. What most Ndigbo has forgotten is that greed is a bottomless pit which exhausts the person in an endless effort to satisfy the need without ever reaching satisfaction.

The chieftaincy titles, the knighthood in the churches, the traditional leaderships, the spoke’s person and all the prestigious positions in all facets of Igbo society should size to be exclusive reserve of the rich. A nation that worships wealth they say shall live to destroy itself. Are these acts of kidnapping marking the climax of the destruction of Igbo Nation? Ndigbo should be worried at the directions the moral decadence in their society is taking them. This is the time for every Igbo man and woman to pause, re-examine those things they believe in and start making amends.

Fashola Undergoes Diagnostic Check At LASUTH

“I feel happy about the facilities here”, he says

Aug 21, 2009 - Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola (SAN), Friday underwent a diagnostic check at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Ikeja, just as he urged Nigerians to use facilities available in the country for treatment instead of seeking such treatments abroad.

In an interview with newsmen after the checks, Governor Fashola said he decided to use the facility available at the hospital to check on the sports injury he picked up a few weeks back because, having commissioned it a few months ago, he was confident that he would get the best treatment.

“A few months ago, I commissioned this facility as one of the best facilities in the country and I thought I should use it instead of going outside the country”, the Governor said.

He said the State Government has always put everything it has into delivering the best services to the people of Lagos adding, “I believe in what we have done here and the quality of what we have invested here and I feel happy”.

On hand to receive Governor Fashola on his arrival at the hospital were the Chief Medical Director (CMD), Dr. Femi Olugbile and the Chairman of the Governing Board of LASUTH, Dr. Nurudeen Olowopopo as well as the Consultant in charge of LASEMS, Dr. Mustapha.
