Most often than not, whenever an innovation is imported into Nigeria, criminal elements always have a way of misusing it for the exact opposite in which the innovation was invented.

For example, Door to Door delivery, which was created to make online shopping easy, have become avenues for daylight robbery, and in worst cases, the delivery agents get killed and their products stolen. There was a reported case of a Jumia delivery agent killed and body buried in a soakaway pit some time ago.

Network Providers have not been found to be different in this disgusting trend. Have you noticed how Network service providers take you automatically to voicemail with your airtime deducted from you? It happens every time one is unable to reach the person we intend calling. Forget the warning message "At the tone, please leave a message"! Even if you do, the message doesn't get anywhere.

This is nothing other than stealing by tricks and daylight robbery of Nigerians through a programme that has been introduced without studying the Nigerian business model to be sure that the innovation suits it. Voicemail feature, which is ubiquitous to every society doesn't really work here in Nigeria.

The NCC and indeed all Network Provider should provide a feature that allows us to authorize first or deactivate this programme outrightly, the same way there is an option to copy a caller tune. Anything short of this amounts to extortion.
