FriendNG:
Shut the red sense organ in your mouth. There is nothing, I repeat nothing that a southerner is competent at, without a corresponding northerner that can do the job exactly or even better.

Your only problem with his recent appointment is Yoruba to other southerners ratio and not the North - South balance that you have been wailing on before.

You don't blame Osinbanjo for this but you can blame Buhari for Marginalization despite there was none. Hypocrite.

We shall see @ the polls.
I'm Yoruba I hope u know that? You know for sure if not for Federal Character, the Southerners would dominate the entire political and economic sphere because they are more competent and well read than Northerners.

Tell them to invest in Education and build schools than building mosque up and down.

Mr Man stop pouring spit all over this thread, I am not supporting Osinbajo but all these allegations is mere speculations. What do you know, you think you are brilliant enough? Why didn't you join them as an economic team member?

If true about the appointments, I think that's nepotism even though he appointed other Southerners asides Yoruba's but the ratio of Yoruba to other southerners is too much on the side of Yorubas. Northerners barely have anything to offer intellectually anyway, so I don't blame him for not appointing any Northerner. All they rely on is Federal character over competency.

These are sensible Igbos who knows Lagos might be Cosmopolitan but will forever be Yoruba Land.

We have our traditional rulers on ground, our culture and tradition in place and our language spoken at the State house of Assembly every Friday.

It is our ancestral land no matter the development you contribute, it will always be our land.

Lagos is a special type of Yoruba Land because it is the most cosmopolitan state in Nigeria.
PoliticsRe: Why We Will Break Nigeria Into Two – Afenifere Leader, Okurounmu by bakynes(m):
The truth is that you can't compare the Soviet Union that splitted into several countries because they were very big,Nigeria is not as big as the Soviet Union.

Best bet is Regionalism and resource control or North and South Nigeria go their separate ways and I don't know if Yorubas and Igbos will see eye to eye on that.

At least, I know the entire South are religious tolerant and literate enough to live together.

If you balkanize Nigeria into 3 or more separate countries the power we wield today we not be there anymore. We will end up like small countries in Africa.

Na wao! Make a choice once and for all.
Same thing I told some yorubas on one thread yesterday. They should stop arguing with them over the ownership of Lagos online. Offline everyone knows who owns the land.

When negative news breaks out in Lagos, they shout Afonja people but when positive news breaks about Lagos they quickly say "it is a No man's land"

Besides Ejigbo,Isolo have huge Igbo population so am sure it is them doing the business there, besides most brothel prostitutes in Lagos are filled with ladies from the South East. Yoruba girls only do coded runs but to sit inside brothel is not common with them.
PoliticsRe: Privatized Power Companies In Nigeria And Their Owners by bakynes(m): 12:09pm On May 31, 2017
LordAdam16:
You call someone's ideas stupid, whereas yours are worse off.

Do you think Telecoms is like the Power sector where you invest and you start seeing your money in 5 years. Break even for the power sector is at least 20 years. That is the true definition of long-term and unlike rail, refineries, telecoms, roads, the Nigerian power sector is completely comatose.

After building their own plants, they'd still have to move the power through the dilapidated transmission network that needs an overhaul which leads to massive shedding. After that, they have to contend with the Distribution end with multiple bypasses and non-payment.

So if you don't know what to type, don't come here and expose your ignorance.

MTN, Airtel, Glo, Etisalat have subsidiaries elsewhere and in multiple countries. The biggest power companies usually operate in no more than 3 countries, because it is capital intensive. There is simply no way, these big international power companies would leave functioning countries to invest heavily Nigeria's power sector when everything from funding to compliance is a big issue. They are not stupid. Call them for rails, ports, refineries, airports, they'll come, but power with its complexity in a country like Nigeria, no dice.

The European heavyweights Enel and EDF that are expanding would not leave opportunities in BRICS and elsewhere in the G20 to play the stupid games players are doing in Nigeria where the government is not even honest with itself.

And you are talking about running assets ourselves. The same assets that the government was running and nothing was happening. A government that cannot run simple telecommunications company and refineries want to run a complex power network for a rapidly developing country. You are a joker. They did not even employ a new engineer in over 15 years, when they were "running" it. They spent $16b and only added 1000MW, when they were "running" it.

The only option we had were indigenous companies in collaboration with select foreign partners. Look at the list against, many of the buys were by consortiums.

Total market capitalization of Nigeria's top 5 banks is less than 2 trillion naira. At current official exchange rate, that is less than $7b. The power sector needs $100b.

Think well, before you type or insult anybody again on this issue, cos your ignorance is on another level.

-Lord
You have a point in some of your acertions, but if you think selling Assets to politicians will solve the issue of Power in Nigeria, you better wake up from your sleep because they will operate on a corrupt system, why has metering suddenly become a problem for them if truly they want to make their money.

Transmission can be improved, 20 years is not such a long time so far we get it right.

Check on the pages of Newspaper in the 70's, the same promises NEPA gave to us assurance they would improve power, if we start now 20years wouldn't be too far.

I said the govt shd run it till they get the right system that would work, selling to indigenous companies owned by Politicians not technocrats and you think power would improve.

Sorry...my eye caught your post....and you raise interesting points.

Re...DISCOSand GENCOS building new facilities. Hopefully that is in the plan (I know Abuja DISCO wants to build a new power plant sometime in the future near Abaji). However.....the issue is capital. Banks are not lending money to the power sector with the same ease they did for GSM.

Also...remember that the reason why GSM companies were able to build new facilties whas charging very high in the begining. Remember the days when a 'package' from Veego (now Airtel) could set you back N25000 naira.? Nowadays...you just pay N500, or less...and your sim is activated. Once they had earned enough money to build all their facilites, and make a profit...prices naturally went down....though it took 4 years!
Bank needs to see their seriousness first of all before they can lend them money. That's why I would have preferred international electricity companies who have the financial muscle to handle the sector.

People won't mind paying the cost so far they can get 24 hours electricity. The poor will make do with the amount they are able to afford, with time when they make their investments, it will get cheaper.

You are not informed. Most of those assets were sold by obasanjo. Obasanjo sold 51% stake in Egbin power plant before leaving office. GEJ only increased the stake to 70% during the 2013 privatization. You need to stop reading online forums and go for true documents. Nobody else could have bought those companies apart from these people that did because of our economic condition. Foreign investors don't just throw in money into a country, they do due diligence study to know the risks involved in doing business in a country so as to ascertain if they will get back their investments. The risks involved in buying those companies then were so much that its only indigenous firms that were ready to take such risks. Those risks are what's manifesting today in form of regulatory issues, liquidity issues and finance issues.
Don't quote me with your stupid ideas if you don't have meaningful ideas to pass.

I am not saying they should buy those assets, they should be invited to build their own facilities not buy the old moribond facilities.

It worked in the case of Telecoms so it will work in the case of Power, if they know no investor will come and invest in the sector then they should have kept running the assets themselves instead of selling them to people that will only make matters worse.

The politicians that bought these power facilities, have not built a single facility still operating with the old NEPA/PHCN facilities expecting the govt to still give them intervention funds from time to time. Is that what you call Privatization?

Trailer crush you and your family there, with that ur dirty mouth u use to call GEJ, Obasanjo started the privatiization of NEPA, is it GEJ is calm you take him for a fool, may every evil befall u and ur lineage for calling GEJ, failure like u
You are a stupid lady, what did he say that is wrong, is it not GEJ that sold the PHCN asset to all these people?Obasanjo only renamed NEPA to PHCN,he did not Privatize it, GEJ sold all the PHCN asset to all these politicians.

In 2013, when they said they wanted to privatize power,I thought they were inviting international Electricity companies like EDF Suez, Gazprom,General Electric etc to build their own facilities so there could be competition, which will inturn bring about 24 hrs supply, just like it was done in the Telecoms sector which we are all enjoying now, not knowing GEJ was selling all the Assets to politicians and Cronies, who neither have the expertise nor funding to run these assets.

Not better but Jonathan score lower in some issues like Aviation, insecurities. He scored higher in economy, ease of doing business, Agriculture and the rest and this is evident because of Highest global oil price in history of OPEC.

I would have loved a comparison btw both Administration, if the Oil price didn't fall this low.

The OP is a joke comparing Buhari's 2 years with Jonathan's 5 and the half years tenure.

How can you say GEJ score higher than PMB in terms of Aviation forgetting the fact that in 2013 under Stella Oduah, the country recorded the highest plane crash in history. People abandoned the local airlines for Road transport. In Buhari's two years we have not had a single plane crash.

You also scoring Corruption under Buhari higher than Jonathan you are a complete joke and a bigot hiding under fake indices.

Power was far better under GEJ than Buhari so your close figuresfor both presidents is rubbish.

Security wise Under GEJ Bokoharam was already occupy a few LGA so your 55% PMB and 50% GEJ is also rubbish because we know insecurity was higher under GEJ.

You forgot GEJ had Oil boom in his two years and Buhari had low Global oil price.

Pride is one thing I have observed in most igbo people another is excessive love for money, that's why they are more into crimes. Majority of them making money make it through illegal means.

So you think Lagos is no man's land because it is cosmopolitan. You are 40% of population in Lagos, making Yoruba and other tribes of Nigeria sharing 60% of the population, making Yoruba the land owners minority? well done, we proved to you at the last election your a minority in Lagos.

This is another reason why the ports will not be used in the SS because of the Piracy on the Gulf of Guinea. So all ships have to dock at Lagos first coming from the Atlantic. And the ones from PH will have to go through Lagos and to the Atlantic Ocean to other parts of the world. The freight will be expensive and dangerous should they go from the Onne, warri etc through the Gulf of Guinea.

Stop arguing over non-issues everyone knows Lagos is a special breed of Yoruba Land because of the British making it a colony and the Portuguese merchants that traded there.
