Yeye boy. Ask the girl to leave you alone now! shakes head while smiling and still typing musing to himself - "as if he can do that". Sissy-man. |
@poster You mean you need a nairaland babe you can beat the living daylights out of? You need some gal to practice your new-found theory on?? ![]() |
Thanks for not wasting our time; you asked a question and answered it in one breath! ![]() |
Check out this attached presentation and you'll know how ![]() |
@chiogoI was actually glad when they got back together again. I like that. A true warrior knows when to draw or sheath his sword. But the deed's already been done. The dissing was too much now chiogo - just can't for get that in a hurry!Maybe you're even a bigger Nas fanatic than I am; didn't know you could quote him so well (you fall my hand small). ![]() A40 (or is it AK47?), I'm sure every one that's been voting for Nas here also loves Jay-Z (and that includes me). And vice versa too. But you know, when it comes to separating the men from the boys; you know what's up now. Nas spits too much knowledge to be on Jay-Z's level. When I listen to J, I nod my head, but when it comes to Nas; I'm still and that's automatic! |
@mustay [quBamsyle; are u that pissed off wid 93.7?ote]

Really I am. I used to like them but I think they're too fake for my liking. They're always forming "foreign" levels (presenters and DJs alike). Also, their jingles show how self-conceited and deluded they are. And then the DJs - I think they're just an over-rated bunch. Especially Humility with that his fat tummy that hardly stays in place ; he's not that good. There are better djs on stations like Raypower, Unity Fm, etc. It's the goodwill Ben Bruce enjoys that has helped them thus far. |

Bottom Line is Rap is for deep and educated minds (educated not meaning you attended a formal institution). Know what, rappers like Tupac, Nas, Biggie, Mos' Def, Common, etc. would teach you lessons on LIFE that the universities et al fail to include in their syllabuses. Infact, my advice is listen to your tutor in school with one ear and the (poetic) rapper with the other - that's why you have two ears. Life throws bigger challenges than all those stuff about physics, maths, etc that we are taught in school. Take for example Tupac. Someone who checked his room after his death was amazed at the stacks of books he found there, books that even professors would never be able to understand. Read his poem "The Rose That Grew From The Concrete" and know what LIFE is about. He was versed, well-read and he taught us about life. Personally, I don't just throw something away just because of its ills. Everything got its ills. Same for Rap. But instead of dwelling on those ills, I look out for the virtues in Rap. ![]() Any rapper can choose to rap about whatever he likes - guns, sex, drugs; that's his/her problem, shouldn't be the listener's. Afterall, you don't stick your finger in fire just cos I told you so. Even my 2-year old niece wouldn't do that. |
@chiogo

Nobody disses him when am around I'ma diss him now in Nas' own words "How much of Biggie's rhymes would roll from your fat lips" (Ether). roflol ![]() @Eldee and Jackal You guys are the men - you know what's up. Nas ranks with the likes of Tupac, Biggie, Rakim and other legends. He's the only rapper alive who still delivers it to both the underground/old school rap and the contemporary rap lovers. Watching his Live Concert DVD was a rapturous experience for me, especially when he dropped "Made You Look". Gosh I can't even quote a word from this "Gay-Zero or whatever his name is" guy. Remember Nas sang "No Idea's Original" - OMG, and so many other classics. Please ask me a better question, who's better, Jay-Z or Nelly? Answer - I DON'T KNOW!!!! |
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!! Nas and Jay-Z ![]() ![]() ??Tiger and Rabbit ![]() ![]() ![]() NAS ALL THE WAY men - stop this unbalanced comparison. Compare Nas with the best and not the rest please, |
Cool talk Eldee - it only takes a listening ear to decipher Modenine's themes, lyrics, messages, etc. If I can "feel" Tupac, Nas and some other very poetic minds, then 9 is just too easy for me to feel. All said and done, I appreciate our Nigerian talents but if there's a need to up ones game, let's say it as it is. I strongly feel 9 needs to improve (if one praises him beyond his present level, he won't improve; he'll get complacent).Back to thread, I'm happy that rap is getting more supportive votes with the latest posts. If one is to gather opinion polls on rap, it sure won't suffer like obasanjo's 3rd term attempt. RAP IS GREAT!!!!!! |
@eldee Hmm! Eldee the rapper. You're so passionate 'bout it - I feel you bro. |
Very apt TOH, can't agree more. But I bet you like some of the reflective rap songs like Dear Mama, Keep Ya Head Up by Tupac, don't you? |
I agree with davidif for the most part @TOH I'm interested in the part you don't agree with. ![]() |
@javalove

I don't base my judgement on "word on the street". what if its dumb ass that make up the streets? What's the orientation of those on the streets, ? Don't u think that would determine how they think and the kinds of music they relate with, ? I'm suggesting "word on the street" also means "word aruond town" abi? Sentiments apart, modenine is the best!!! It's not somtn u have to accept, its a fact!!! and give me reasons why he's not tha best, please do. let me know your reasons, Java, check my last post on the thread "Modenine Replys (sic) At Last". I don't mean to say Mode ain't good but you're 'over-blowing' his trumpet. For me, his lyrics are good. But his flows? I don't quite agree. And for me, those two elements, among others, had better be in any rapper's credentials; else he/she doesn't fly HIGH with me. Let me use some examples to explain wha'I mean FLOWS - Biggie, Nas (in that order), LYRICS - Tupac (a god on this level). "The Streets" in my context is "the rap audience" who also double as analysts, not word around town. I get your point on Modenine being "your best". He's trying. At least, on the naija rap scene, Mode and Rugged are the most visible best (mark my choice of words there as there are many unheard talents). But you know what? These two cats need to learn from each other. Mode is hardcore/underground (his commercial style as adopted in the "Pluribus Unum" album was not as good as his earlier "Malcolm IX" or "Pentium IX" releases - he only had better production quality). Rugged is mainstream but atimes, he sounds wack plus he's not good at lyrics/wordplay. But he sure knows how to connect to his community and that's important in music, especially 'rap for naija folks'. Mode ain't really connecting like that. Solution - either the duo should 'mate' to produce a 'perfect rapper for naija' - (you know I'm just joking) or they should just rub heads together/tap from each other's skills to be better rappers. Hope you get my point dude, can't sweat it! |
@javalove Easy my guy, I mostly share your views on Rap but the way you keep going on about Modenine, the average observer would suspect you're 9 himself. Modenine is good with lyrics but for me, that's as good as it gets. I especially like his raps/style on "Fellow Nigerians" and "Head". But he still needs a lotta improvement in some areas - especially his "flow rhythm/timing". No Nigerian rapper comes anything close to Biggie (don of flows), Nas, et al on this level. 'Flow' is a very vital aspect of rap. |
Shed So Many Tears - Tupac Ambitions As a Ridah - Tupac Army Arrangement - Fela Kuti Unknown Soldier - Fela Kuti Da Goodness - Redman Long Way To Go - Cassie Starting Something/Re-mix of When I Get Free - Michael Jackson/Tupac Explosive - Dr. Dre It Wasn't Me - Shaggy B. Please - Snoop Did You Ever Think - R.Kelly Get Out - Shyne Ting-A-Ling - Shabba Ranks Fire It Up - Busta Rhymes Thong Song - Sisquo OMG - the list goes onnnnnnnnnnn! never knew I liked so many beats! |
Saying someone is earth's best rapper would be open ended and highly relative 'cos this is based on a number of indices such lyrics, flows, consistency and a whole lot of others. I can assure you no rapper on earth would score highest in ALL. But from and outside your list, my A-class rappers are Tupac, Biggie, Nas, Rakim, Big Daddy Kane (only these come instantly to mind). |
@poster Rap being harshly criticized compared to other music genres? Capital YES - I believe so. Apart from those who claim rap has bad influence, I think the average critic also believes rap is not music. He/she believes music is singing accompanied by musical instruments, solfa notes, using music sheets, etc. I differ. If, as Chambers Dictionary puts it, music is "the art of expression in sound, rhythm and melody", rap qualifies as music. Infact, in my ears, it's very good music. It has sound, rhythm and melody. |
Rap indeed is GREAT. If the critics could just pay more attention to the lyrics of rappers who come under the "Poetic Group of Rappers" (talk of Tupac, Nas, Common, Mos' Def, etc.), you would know what I mean. Believe me Naija diva, I used to be like you until I listened to GREAT RAP SONGS from GREAT MINDS like Brenda's Got a Baby, Dear Mama (Tupac - too many to list), No Idea Is Original, One Mic, (and a whole lotta Nas classics), etc. (Aside that, I also love Biggie for his flows but that's for another thread). Some modern-day rappers have spoilt the game, yes but that doesn't make rap a bad style of music at all. It's the DEEPEST form of musical expression - a good rap song goes straight from the rapper's heart to the listener's soul. It touches hearts and makes you reflect about life. |
@javalove So don't judge rap by what you see, just as i would not judge your thinking with your post. I LOVE POETRY. I LOVE RAP. I LOVE MODENINE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!![quote]

javalove, again ?!!!! Well, I ain't on your case bro.@davidif RAP is LIFE , pay closer attention to a whole lotta poetic verses from peops like Nas, Common, Mos' Def, etc. and especially tha DON KILLUMINATI himself, TUPAC (his reflective stuff like Dear Mama, Brenda's Got A Baby, Changes - how many will I count). Ain't no better musical style for self-expression than Rap , quote me. |
@javalove

Mode9 = = = = Nigeria's bravest lyricist and best rapper of all time 9ice= = = = = The man with 2 pockets. Alapomeji i'm now a big fan of this guy all of a sudden 2-shot = = = = Anoda mad ass lyricist. u need to hear him on "2shots from a nine track" he spits fire!!! Mode Nine IS NOT what you called him at all. That's my thinking , and that's word on tha street 2shot 2face IS VERY GOOD - he's number 1. Rugged is not so good, but not as bad as you claim either Can't agree more with you on D'banj - that guy is just noise and nothing else (apart from Mobolowo Won track, nothing else) Last word, your general comments suggest you're either Mode Nine or his kith & kin; play smarter bro. |
Ain't bad at all. Who produced you and which studio did you use? |

THAT GUY NA MUMU. THE RICHEST ARTIST IN NIGERIA IS SIR ALHAJI WAZIRI. WHEN HE SANG THE ALBUM OWAN 1999 THE GOT THE TOTAL AMOUNT OF 890 MILLION POUNDS. 2. IN THE YEAR 2008 THE WORLD BANK IN SWIZ ANNOUNCED HIS CASH IN TE BANK HAS CONTRIES TOTAL ASSET VALUE. THE SECOND RICHEST IS YOUNG BOLIVIA. THE THIRD RICHEST IS YAKSON MORINHO. THE FOURTH RICHEST IS DEEM12 OF SOD. THE FIFTH RICHEST IS OHIS OF AFE HOUSE. What do you mean with all these trash? All these peops have names that sound like they're arabs ![]() |
@ZerocoolI know this is an old thread but well said Zerocool. Especially the portion in bold fonts. The worst are fat-ass, pot-bellied and pig-look alike DJ Humility (DJ Stupidity), stupid-looking DJ Tommy (the dwarf), talent-lacking DJ Midas (DJ My-Ass) and a host of 'em. They ain't all that at all. I think I like KLM a bit though. They only boast at Rhythm Fm. Wildchild is also one stupid presenter. The guy is just a randy goat that loves babbling on the radio with girls. That's not presenting. Ain't shit to me. |
For me, I've never liked all these videos with booty-shaking girls (whether here in Naija with the likes of P-Queer (HisGrace you're funny!) or yonder with the likes of Nelly, R.Kelly, etc)). If you're talented/gifted, your SONG would as a first step, speak for you. Your video only comes in to complement it. But what do most of these booty-video artistes do? Release a song that makes no sense and is performed in a dismal voice (with studio effizies to cover up the flaws) and then use booty-shaking gals to sell it (afterall, to them, people like seeing those booties). Well, sorry not all peops are stupid. There are loads of peops out there who look out for what makes sense in music; not stupidity wearing the veil of a booty-preaching video. I'm one of 'em. |
Methinks people should be objective in the way they project their views on a forum like this. Someone says he doesn't like a song, and then he gets a barrage of insults and abuses for that! It's wrong - let people be free to air their opinions without drawing criticisms. The purpose of having the media air your song is to have the people listen and decide whether they like it or not. IKNOWTHEMI, the way you're going about this whole thing, the average observer can't help but conclude you're MI. You don't win a person's acceptance or favour by throwing abuses. You can't force anyone to like what he/she does not like! TOSINADEDA, kudos for being really mature in your responses despite the abuses. As for me, I've been listening to MI's music for some time and I think he's just ok, period, I won't say more than that. |
Life is a di*k, when it gets hard fu*k it?! ![]() |
I find this topic really interesting. However, there's a salient issue some of you guys mentioned in passing - expressly and by implication but which I'd want to dwell on; the radio stations playing these guys. In the days gone by (I mean the era of the likes of KSA et al), I want to believe that a song must be screened to determine its suitability for airplay. And by that, I mean the song must be GOOD (minus beats and all the studio 'effizies'). What do we have nowadays? Just have enough money to give these so-called radio presenters and DJs and your song will be played till the world turns deaf. Methinks these presenters and DJs are the ones encouraging mediocrity. Meanwhile, a lotta budding artistes out there are wasting away cuz there's no big bros or dough to promote their stuff. Infact I used to think radio stations like Rhythm 93.7, Cool FM etc had 'standards' (knowwha'I mean?) but check out the songs they play most times! I DON'T BLAME ANY ARTISTES, I BLAME THE HUNGRY PRESENTERS & DJS Baro, please start another thread - Radio Presenters and DJs That Have No Biz In The Musik Industry (lol)! ![]() |
O Si Ma Dara - PHEMMIE |
There's a new song I heard on Eko 89.75 Fm, Unilag Fm and Unity Fm. I think the title is O Si Ma Dara (Gonna Be Ok); a real hip-hop/rap song by someone called Femi (spelled PHEMMIE - as was informed by the presenter on one of the radio stations). Guys, this song is tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight! It has an infectious hook (done in Yoruba language and has an accompanying refrain sung in English). Can't just get it off my head! Once you hear the hook, you'll learn it easily - so simple and yet profound. The beat would move you to your feet, it's off da hook! :DIt's also got 3 tight rap verses and a ragga solo. The message is quite inspirational and motivating (a song of encouragement with very clear lyrics). Guys, watch out for this guy! |

The dissing was too much now chiogo - just can't for get that in a hurry!

I DON'T KNOW!!!!
