chineduemmao: Its true that a very public opinion about someone has a greater potential to shape how people will treat the person than his or her own perception of self, but its way too outta line to say "you are what they say you are". Not true! and this is where we are contradicting. since people are bound to fault whatever you do why depend on their opinion? You are confusing faults with character. A fault is an error that happens occasionally and is seen as that which is then corrected. How can you say a policeman standing in the middle of traffic confidently collecting bribe in full view of everyone a fault? And let's say for argument sake it is a fault; why has it not been corrected? It is what it is. That Nigerians are predominantly corrupt. If it were not so, that scenario would have been corrected a long time ago. You can only be comfortable with what you are. You will never see that in America. Not saying that there is no corruption or crime in America but you know damn sure a policeman does not have the guts to stand in public to collect bribe. |

chineduemmao: no! what does it mean? Simply put; it means you are what people think you are. It does not matter what you think of yourself, it does matter however how people see you. I do not mean a select group but the generality of people. This is important because of the fact that us as individual depend on others. A good example is a situation where policemen stand in the middle of traffic demanding bribe with no consequences. What do you think someone from switzerland would think of Nigerians since a policeman can do that confidently and no one arrests him/her? Meanwhile the same Nigerians who claim to be good people, do nothing about it but cry foul when the outside world call them corrupt. Bill clinton is one of the most successful presidents in America's history but the first thing people think of when his name is brought up is a womanizing philanderer. His successes are an after thought. This is why one has to be very careful about one's image and how we portray ourselves. |

Kobicove: Can he honestly say he did not know that before engaging her for marriage?
He was probably blinded by lust
People don't change after marriage!
What you see is what you get! Actually, people do. You know why? Because you and your spouse will not be stagnant. Things will continue to change around you which will affect your emotions and character. For example; When you get a promotion at work may mean less time spent at home. This may infuriate your spouse. You'll start seeing mood swings from her and not understand that she may be missing you or have suspicions that you are cheating. It can be easily solved if the line of communication between spouses is solid but in African marriages it usually is not. Another example is when she starts having babies. A woman's sex drive reduces once she starts having children. Most men do not understand this and complain when their wives deny them sex and start to believe their wives have changed. And she has changed because it is not easy staying up late night after night to nurse, wake up early to feed and dress the kids for school and still go to work. How sexy do you think she'll feel when she comes back from work? Spouses change all the time. They just have to be aware of it and compensate for the changes. |

FSBoperator: Arrant nonsense.
You are promoting narcissism in place of self confidence.
Self confidence comes with self assurance and you don't need anybody's compliment since you know you are on the right. How do you know you are on the right? Because of good home training and a disciplined outlook on life.
A narcissistic idiot on the other hand needs to be complimented and assured by others - this is not the hallmark of a self confident being. And they wonder why they are in the predicament they are in. They won't think nor act the way normal people in normal countries do then turn around and complain when they tag them as phucked up people. Worse is, instead of them to learn and correct their mistakes, they stubbornly dig their heels in, bury their heads in the sand and ignore normalcy. Make una continue. You think it's bad now. Lol. You have no idea what's in store for you all as a people. Smh. |

wristbangle: I am pleased to read hopeful words from some patriotic Nigerians.
I have friends in overseas that tells me about how some white friends of theirs view africa generally aside South Africa, Egypt, Morocco as a typical village without power supply, GSM services, hut mud houses and other basic amenities hence give more derogatory views about Nigeria except for those who have travelled to the country.
Nigerians are good people but the fact that we are plagued with bad government since independence has changed the mentality of the few good ones to compromised and manipulate their way to the top. You might wanna rethink the bold comment. If Nigerians were good people, your government would not be bad. Bad citizens=Bad government=bad country. This is a fact. Is this not the same country were it's citizens can execute suspects in the streets and nothing will happen? These are the things other countries see that make them to tag you as phucked up people. |

FSBoperator: The most annoying thing about Nigerians is that they tend to want to know how others feel about them.
It only takes a highly inferiority complexed being to want to know how other people view him or her.
And thats what this thread is all about. Guy, you should care what others think about you. Do you know why? Ever heard the term "perception is reality"? No man is an island. If Nigeria was self sufficient and did not need any other country in the world to survive then it wouldn't and shouldn't care what others countries think about her. But we all know that is not the case. Even America and Americans care about what other countries think about them talk less of Nigeria. Even you as an individual do it all the time. Every time you dress up to go out you are doing it so as to impress others and to project a good image. If you were alone in the world you wouldn't give a phuck and probably walk around n.aked. |

It is the norm that policemen dress any which way they want and walk about the streets. In The U.S or Germany, you will know if a plain clothed person is a policeman or not. He will be wearing a badge on the outfit he has on. Or at the very least, be in the midst of other policemen in Uniform. Don't take my word for it. You have access to google. |

Reference: If you ran into your doctor at a children's party dressed like a clown that makes him what.... and when you have a chicken bone stuck diwn your throat tell him to get dressed properly before bringing it out.
Know the circumstance first. You do realize you've not made any kind of sense right? There is a reason people wear uniforms for their profession. It inspires confidence and it does not create room from inconsistencies and cofusion. Why are you supporting what is obviously abnormal to everyone? Show me where in a normal society this kind of thing is done. And if i met a doctor at a children's party dressed as a clown i'd know we are at a party which means it is either a costume party or he just performing for the children for that day. Now if he's dressed as a clown in a hospital on a business day with no event happening i would have to scratch my head and wonder what the phuck is going on. |
