Pidggin: Insightful post.
Whoever is guilty of corruption should be disciplined but there should be no rationalizing of witch hunting unless we intend to mock ourselves.
PEJ has not been found guilty by a court of law so why all this media crucifixion Because almost everyone around him at the time he was president seems to be corrupt. First it was dasuki, then deziani, now his wife. His own wife. Especially his wife. She would not be able to amass such wealth unless through his influence. And these are not just meager amounts we are talking about. He has to be the most incompetent leader on earth not to have noticed that all this was happening around him. |

A soldier who wants to live like a civilian. True. |

Alani86: We can call it an insult, but it sounds foolish. They actually felt they could play smart, but someone like me won't buy it. How on earth would they have done that to make him happy? Did they deliberately damage the roof? Did they arrange for rain to fall while he would be at the airport? This is what happens when we (blacks) conclude in our heart that they (white) are special brand of humans. Go and check those who come out with the best results abroad (masters particularly)! This is how to criticize in this situation. "@ management of Heathrow airport; You might not be aware of this, but i just noticed a leak in your roof at the airport today. You might want to get your maintenance unit on it immediately. It looks bad considering the reputation you have". You see what i did? I pointed out a deficiency in their building and made a recommendation on how they could fix it as well as making sure they understood the consequences of leaving the building as it is. Now when someone is pointing out a flaw in your system or what you are doing by making fun of you, how would you respond to it? His bad belle got the accurate response. A well deserved witty, back handed retort. Since the guy is used to bad things happening in Nigeria, they did not want to disappoint him. And Nigerians are a special brand of human beings. You can see how special by the society they have created for themselves. |

ATERI: My point is, we are all capable of being the change we want in our country. That change is not possible in Nigeria at the moment. Why? Because of the way Nigerians think. You all don't know it but collectively, Nigerians don't think like normal people. Now in other normal countries, you have people who think abnormally too but the normal ones outnumber them. That is the problem in Nigeria. The abnormal ones outnumber the normal ones. One voice cannot change it. They will just kill you. |

nonjebose: My point is, they goofed the moment they allowed an isolated statement go answered in the most cheeky way possible. Why do you think he experienced that feeling of happiness? The answer lies in the irresponsible response they eventually gave, lending credence to their disparaging attitude towards us My point is they answered the way they did because the guy was " happy" because of the their mistake/oversight. This was why they said it was intentionally done to make him happy. |

nonjebose: No country is perfect is a truism and incontrovertible. I have always known this ,first hand. I need no one to tell me that. That guy probably knows this too, but was amazed to see this at a point of entry. On a daily basis, we are inundated with how poor our infrastructures are. We normally take them in good faith, because they are evident to everyone. Why would they find it undesirable when it happens to them? Oh, just because he is a Nigerian. No matter how much you try to fix yourself, you'll still remain the brunt of criticisms by the unsparing western media. He did not criticize, but simply raised an observation which the proud could not ignore or accept. I don't think you read what the guy wrote. He did not criticize, he was happily pointing fingers at another country's misfortune. You criticize something so that the thing becomes better. This is what he said, "For some reason, i was quite " HAPPY" to see a a roof leaking at heathrow airport". Really? He was happy to see another countries mistake/misfortune. And Nigerians have not tried to fix their country. They haven't even started to scratch the surface yet. Show me evidence of where, when, and how they have tried? |

soberdrunk: I dont get what all the fuss about this lady is, it seems our bar for celebrating people in Nigeria is 'very low', she didnt discover the cure for any of Nigerias 'many' problems so why should we declare a public holiday in her honour. It is not as if she is doing charity work or helping the society in any way, she is simply doing what she likes and 'getting paid'.......FOR CRYING OUT LOUD, WE HAVE SOLDIERS UP NORTH SACRIFICING THEIR LIVES EVERYDAY FOR OUR SAFETY AND WE DECIDE TO SHINE SPOTLIGHT ON A LADY TYRING TO GET PAID!!!?? THE OTHER DAY ON NAIRALAND I SAW PICTURES OF SOLDIERS OBSERVING EID PRAYER IN BORNO AND A "FEMALE" SOLDIER WAS AMONG THEM, NOBODY SAID ANYTHING ABOUT A "WOMAN" RISKING HER LIFE FOR THE COUNTRY BUT IF IT IS A "BREADSELLER, MECHANIC OR WOMAN DOING SOMETHING WE SEE AS 'STRANGE" IT WILL MAKE HEADLINES. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A COUNTRY WITH MORE MISPLACED PRIORITIES THAN NIGERIA!!! They tried na. They just gave her 100 dollars. At least that's how i bought mine. |

nonjebose: No, mister. I am disappointed that some people are mocking the man for putting his thought into words concerning the unexpected discovery. Western propaganda feed on every negative in developing nations. There is no gain saying Nigeria aviation is pathetic, but such rare abnormalities cannot trivialised by the Heathrow airport authority in such manner You are the one who believes nothing negative happens in developing nations. There are crimes, dilapidation, and much more. I can't fathom whoever preached that to you. Especially when we have the internet. The point is, Nigerians are quick to point out the flaws in other countries when they should be silent considering how horrible their country is. The frequency of abnormality in the country is almost incompatible to normal standards. And it is normal to them. I don't know about you but if i know i am phucked up, i don't go about criticizing other people. I try to fix myself before i can talk. |

nonjebose: It was an insult that does not reduce the potency or gravity of the guy's tweet. I even think the airport mgt should not have made that feeble attempt at humour You guys have this delusion that bad things don't happen in other countries. It does. What matters is the frequency and the attitude of the citizens. In Britain, such occurences are rare, and also few and far in between. In Nigeria, it would be abnormal if such things do not happen. In fact, Nigerian citizens expect such things to happen. Is this not a country where people thought it was normal to board an airline with a home made ladder? And a former minister, FFK, saying that airline disasters are as a result of witches and wizards? |
