PoliticsBoko Haram Kill Traditional Ruler In Gombe by baslone(op): 3:35pm On Mar 10, 2012
Suspected Islamist militants shot dead a traditional ruler in Nigeria's remote northeastern
Gombe state, as he left a mosque after last Friday prayers, witnesses and police said.

Alhaji Bello Kagarawal was walking out of the mosque after dark on Friday when the gunmen
sprang their attack, Gombe police spokesman Ahmed Gidaye Mohammed said.

He added that there was no known motive for the attack.

Islamist group Boko Haram has been waging a low level insurgency against Nigeria's government
since 2009, and has been blamed for hundreds of killings in gun and bomb attacks.

A movement styled on the Taliban, the sect says it wants to transform Nigeria, a country of
160 million people split evenly between Muslims and Christians, into an Islamic state.

Attacks usually target security forces, but authority figures, including traditional Islamic leaders
seen by the group as not sufficiently pious, are also frequently struck.

"The suspected Boko Haram sect members came and asked for the traditional ruler who was
about entering the mosque to say his prayers," said eyewitness Abubakar Abdulsalaw.

"When Alhaji heard them he turned and answered them and they pulled out their rifle and shot
him several times at close range. He slumped down and died."

A Briton and an Italian held hostage in Nigeria were killed by their captors on Thursday, after
being held for almost a year by what security officials said was a Boko Haram faction, although
a spokesman for the sect denied any involvement on Friday.

Boko Haram used to be confined to Nigeria's northeastern state of Borno, but the sect, or
several factions of it, have spread out in the past six months to plague at least 10 states
across the north, and have struck the capital a few times.

A gun battle broke out on Friday between suspected Islamist militants and police in Nigeria's
biggest northern city of Kano, after gunmen opened fire on a police station.

You are now forcing experience officers to replace them with less experienced officers with god fathers. The Police have lost a lot of competent officers as a result of politicians picking junior and less experience men to lead the force.
Besides Ribadu, mention 3 competent officers you have known in the last 15years!

I for one do not believe in Influences of religion or ethnicity in my vote and Campaign for a candidate.
I have never voted Obasanjo, though a Yoruba Man.
I voted Pat Utomi in 2007.
I voted GEJ in 2011 (already regreting that).
I voted Fashola in Lagos 2007 (because Koro was too aggresive and displayed open hooliganism).

By and Large, Pat Utomi has not been able to get to the seat.
But Only Fashola did me proud. He is a Muslim.
A Muslim who did right is a great Man to me.
My Church Member who is corrupt is a devil in Church.
Unfortunate that they are so many in that category.
The day the North present a candidate with good track record, I will queue behind that candidate.

As for Fashola 2015, It is OK by me.
The only challenge of the "oppositions" is that they are not based on Ideology, but more on personal interests.
But my take is that PDP's rule can't help Nigeria, We need better offers.

political suicide, ,fashola may be good but the southeast will not watch another yoruba man become preisident while the so called north will not watch another yoruba man become president again unless the alliance will produce a northern president with fashola as deputy thereby repeating the same mistake they made last year and they sure wont win, anyway lets watch and see its obvious the next election might be the final straw to ending this nation . btw if yorubas fail again the only position a yorubaman will occupy will be cheif security officer in aso rock. the best deal for presidency will be a SE president with a sw or MB vice anyother thing will be epic fail. cus no southerner or christian after all the massacre will be crazy enough to vote NE,NW candidate.
U are correct my brother, that will be the true situation then. Ur prophecy will surely come to pass
You are funny! You assumption is Leaning towards one direction.

PoliticsEfcc Moves To Legalise Plea-bargaining by baslone(op): 11:46am On Mar 06, 2012
THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has submitted a bill to the National Assembly to legalise the controversial concept of plea-bargaining.

Chairman of the commission, Mr Ibrahim Lamorde, made this known on Monday, in a paper delivered at a training programme organised by the National Association of Judiciary Correspondents (NAJUC), Abuja branch, in collaboration with Open Society Justice Initiative (OSJI) and Settlement House, held in Abuja.

In a paper delivered on his behalf by the Director of Legal Services, Mrs Elizabeth Ayodele, Lamorde said “it should be noted that except in Lagos State, there is no legal provision in Nigeria directly empowering the prosecution to enter into plea bargaining with persons accused of a crime.

“It is desirable, in view of the controversial nature of plea bargaining and the possibility of abuse inherent therein, to clearly regulate its practice by law. There are steps already being taken in this direction.

PoliticsMend Debunks Jtf Claims Over Last Week's Attack by baslone(op): 11:41am On Mar 06, 2012
Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) has responded to claims by
the Joint Task Force (JTF) claims that the four military offices killed last week had died from
attacks carried out by Niger Delta sea pirates. In a release today, MEND restated its earlier
position that the attacks which killed an army lieutenant colonel was carried by its members.

See press statement below:

Unfortunately, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is again compelled
to respond to the rambling of the spokesperson for the JTF. We re-assert our claim to the attack
on the marine police patrol and urge the public to discountenance the propaganda of the JTF which
attributes the attack on its convoy to pirates.

Since when have sea pirates in the Niger Delta been known to travel in such large numbers as
admitted by the JTF which for once is forced to concede to the loss of a senior officer?

The attack on the JTF convoy was carried out by a small group in the delta. To the best of our
knowledge, no member of this group was killed in the subsequent skirmish with the JTF which
again lost more than 10 soldiers which as usual remains unreported.

All members of this group retreated to the creeks and are safely out of that vicinity. In responding to
the execution of Lt Col Maliki, the JTF spokesperson stated that without a body, a confirmation of death
could not be made.

It is common knowledge that fighters in the Delta travel seven in a boat. The JTF's claim of
three boats sunk equates to twenty one dead "pirates." We challenge him to produce the
bodies of all the "pirates" killed by the JTF. Rather than go in the creeks and do what they are
paid so much to do, the JTF wastes so much time and resources on talk.

These bunches of cowards are not ashamed to state publicly that they are continuously overwhelmed
by disorganised sea pirates. The shameless spokesperson for the JTF further exposes his stupidity in
addressing a "non-existent" M.E.N.D.

The government of Nigeria seeks to mislead Nigerians and the rest of the world into thinking
the unrest in the Delta is over. The oil companies know better and when we commence with
our planned attacks on major oil facilities, we wonder what excuses the JTF will have. Nigerians
are no doubt getting tired of JTF stories of attacks by Pirates, Bunkerers and ghosts.
