queenfav: This is very unprofessional of nairaland...I have always told people about how informative it is as a forum for Nigerians..Right now,am really shocked at the kind of topics that make frontpage..@op ,You put up the picture of a newly married couple, and ask people to comment?Whatever happened to privacy? Are they thieves, terrorists or criminals? So what's this thread about..How does it help Nigerians? So its. A crime to have a lowkey marriage? Why won't people steal and do all sorts to have a big wedding?I am highly disappointed that this was posted, and more so that it made front page..@seun,you may not know why people are deactivating their nairaland accounts, but this is one of the reasons!Bella naija is not as popular as nairaland, but its incomparable because rubbish posts like this can never be featured!I pity the future of nairaland. Seconded. Please seun this article shouldn't make front page Its just a very sad post from a sadistic person who wants to bring down two unwitting victims of his hatred. Two newly weds who should are obviously very happy. This thread should be closed and the OP should be given a ban |

Ifymanuels: Now I'm confused, are you saying one cannot present a diff sponsor bank statement for i-20 and interview? There's no hard and fast rule Consistency is important though. You can't have corporate sponsor on i20 and then go with personal acct. That's a red flag. But of course family includes uncle, dad, mom etc. Any will do I think. |

I read your transcript and in it you said you & sister will finance your study. Soo, I want to know if you send your sister's SOA and yours to get I-20 and Who did you fill on "Person/Entity Paying for Your Trip" on DS-160 form: self/Family? I'm going on a full scholarship. There must have been a mistake somewhere. Perhaps you read the wrong transcript. Regarding your questions, the person paying for your trip should be whoever your sponsor is. It should tally with the account statement you'll present too as well as what's written on your i20 Hope this helps. |

igbonerd: The department gets their yearly budget first week in July and makes assistantship decisions in the following week. My professor of interest is the chair of graduate admissions and is interested in having me work with him. He gave me the assurance that I secure it. Like I mentioned earlier, the decision would be made in the second week of July. Are you advising that I wait till then, so I can order a fresh Form I20, before booking a visa interview? Wait for the new i20 then. But know you'll be on a very short leash for sevis fee payment, visa appointment etc. I suggest you pre arrange those so you don't waste time. |

igbonerd: Hello house,
You guys on this thread are unsung heroes of foreign admissions. This thread is the Nigeria the media won't show you.
I need your counsel. I have an admission into a postgraduate program in a US school for Fall. I just got my Form I-20. The source of funding stated therein is "Family Funds." Now, I've been recommended for a teaching assistantship by a professor (I've been in touch with) in the school & learned decisions would be made in the 2nd week of July. It's somewhat assured.
Do I go on ahead and schedule a visa interview using the expected Form I-20 with "Family Funds" as means, or do I wait to be awarded the assistantship, then order a new Form I-20 that would reflect the teaching assistantship? (I've heard from some quarters that your odds of getting a visa is better when an assistantship is listed as your funding source as opposed to family funds.)
Please help out. Thanks. What are your chances of actually getting the assistantship. If you've not been assured then don't waste your time. |

Walspring: Hmmmm... What of if he doesn't use it to apply for admission How will the VO see it You got a point. But the sevis upload thing is the reason why Vos rarely ask for document for many students they approve these days. Once they start asking for students to produce too many documents nowadays, e get as e be. This is not universal though. Just my observation. |

If you have any suggestion pls let me know because you have a lot of experience already as a pharmacist. Lol. We both know you're not coming back to Nigeria so please find another answer. Do you need to go to the US when the money spent on Pharmacy school can even open the business in a big way and save you time spent and stress of schooling?? Do the Math. These VOs are psychologists. benjaminiyke: For a student going for bachelors degree in pharmacy...what kind of convincing answer will I give vo if he ask me why I want to study pharmacy. Look at my transcript. Although I'm going for PhD so not sure if that'll be useful to you but either way. Look for simple but slightly technical things that everyday Americans can relate to in the pharmacy. Its a highly respected profession so know what you're saying and be confident about it. You could say "I chose Pharmacy because based on my solid background in the sciences and i have always wanted to combine this with clinical applications. And pharmacy offers this UNIQUE opportunity, In addition to that, as a HEALTHCARE giver i would be able to impact lives as a pharmacist. I will be CONDUCTING RESEARCH ON.....Allergies, Arthritis, Diabetes. Pick a simple disease and just use that as a narrative that you know what you're saying. |

Lol. Thats partly true but i)Some VOs make their decisions based on what they have in front of their screens and what your school uploaded on SEVIS Database irrespective of what youre saying. Some people will yarn dust and still be granted..that's why some say they know who they'll give and who will be denied ii)Some VOs make their decisions based on your poise, confidence level and how you respond to questions. Either way, some things are red flags and will attract negative attention These guys have split seconds to make decisions and thus, it is imperative that students make sure that they create a positive impression in a few mins |
