Why is GEJ government statements always dogged with controversies and inconsistencies? The sources of this news are clearly credible and some form of agreement must have been handed-out by FGN.

Jonathan should take a stock of all approved/proposed projects and MoD with his eggheads and make sure everyone understands what is happening where and when. I cant stop wondering what these people do in their offices from 8:30am to 5pm everyday.

Papers like Daily Trust especially promote everything from total lies to boko haram, just because the core-North lost the elections. Its all about bigotry these days.

Politics › Re: Senate To Investigate How FG Overspent Subsidy Fund by Beaf: 2:07am On Oct 13, 2011
In the motion co-sponsored by 13 other senators yesterday, Saraki said instead of spending N20 billion each month on fuel subsidy as budgeted, government spent up to N165 billion in one month alone in breach of the budget law.

Saraki said government has so far spent about N1.3 trillion on fuel subsidy this year, translating to 700 per cent above the budgeted sum.

He said reports by some prominent foreign economic journals and the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) has revealed how volume of fuel imported into Nigeria is inflated fivefold and then smuggled out and sold at higher prices in neighbouring countries after collection of large sums of money as subsidies from the government.

“Fuel subsidy as it is being managed today has become a risk to the entire economy.
The implementation of the 2011 Appropriation Act will surely be in trouble waters if a variation of N1.2 trillion arises as a result of the level of expenditure incurred on fuel subsidy so far.

“Although N20 billion was set aside for subsidy on a monthly basis in the Appropriation Act 2011, in August 2011 the total figure expended was N165 billion of which the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) was N88 billion and the Independent Marketers was N77.7 billion.

“In the first three months of the year both NNPC and the Independent Marketers did not exceed N62 billion monthly but within the last three months figures have ranged between N150 billion and N186 billion,” Saraki said.

Speaking on the motion, Senate President David Mark said the scheme has been hijacked by a cartel operating like Mafia. “Whatever they do is completely exclusive to them. They are very few and 95 per cent of us don’t know what is happening. It is important to investigate the subsidy to know whether or not it has achieved the aim it is set out to achieve,” he said.
This is a very good development indeed. The average Nigerian would learn why having the fuel subsidy in its present form is really bad for us. At last someone has been able to put a monthly figure on what this legalised fraud costs the country. 1.2trillion in one month no be beans, the subsidy has got to go! angry

EPOMA:
Idea is not good , this is a white elephant project, Nigeria still worries me with things like this, when I see western countries talking about employment, they define things like road buildings and so on to create jobs, Even the YouWin website posted by beaf shows roadside shoe repairer, shopretailers and someone Ironing on the floor outside, that tell the whole story, The whole thing is a joke. 50Billion is toosmall to create jobs for the whole country, the should cut the budget of Nass and other politican offices and put in big money to build sustainable industry to create proper jobs.
Story! Story!

Road building to create jobs in the West? lol!
If you haven't lived in the West or are not informed about the West, do no use it as an example. Tell us how many roads are being built right now in the US, UK, Greece, Spain etc to curb rampaging unemployment?

Why would they just start building roads like they are crazy? Roads to where my brother? In any event, road building can only contribute something to the economy of a developing country, and it would have to be on a massive scale with slave wages.

Abeg, tell another story and let those with bright idea's sieze their opportunity.

There are some things the Legislature shouldn't even bother mentioning, because they are wasting our time. They have not been able to pass the PIB, yet prost!tution is high on their agenda, thats just bloody shameful.

Matters like prost!tution are best dealt with by local society, with the local police applying the law at their discretion based on local perceptions of crime rate.

Private refineries have the govts backing. There are even plans to regulate the illegal refineries in the ND and SE and bring them into the mainstream.

It is a start. What is most important is the quality of ideas that make it through and the support network backing the young entrepreneurs; those are the areas we should be looking at.

You may not know the history of the theft but just look at the 2 logos before you start yapping and supporting thieves!
Dude, me and a few others have a similar website (www.AfroScienceCommunity.com) which has also been pitched at different quarters; the truth is that there are very many similar idea's both in Nigeria and the World over. Dragons den is even more similar to YouWin, so please let it lay.

I'll advise that you pitch your idea to the likes of the educational wing of the Bill Gates Foundation, look into targetted United Nations developmental funds, Ford Foundation etc.

The story is very bent and useless, there isn't even a direct quote, rather it is 3rd party news quoting another website which isn't in English (the whole thing is more like gossip).

Nigeria has a deal with China to build 3 new refineries here in Nigeria. 1 in Lagos, 1 in Bayelsa and the last in Rivers.

Politics › Re: Fg Launches N50BN 'YouWin' Job Creation Fund by Beaf(op): 11:36pm On Oct 12, 2011
These days, most people just want to say something negative, even if it makes no sense. Negativity only breeds failure and Nigeria has had enough of that. Quite a few people are expiring so much energy complaining about problems that have been in existence for decades because GEJ is taking steps to solve them.
Some have complained about electricity, even though they know there are tremendous improvements in that area. Others have talked about an enabling environment, but I am quite sure that this is the first govt to take that word on as mantra and created a plethora of policies; from the Gas Revolution, to the restructuring of NNPC (even while the drive for the PIB continues), to local content laws, the privatisation of PHCN etc.

A lot of people are complaining for the sake of it, or because of frustrations endured in the past (which is very understandable). However, for those who fall within the age bracket for YouWin, it is a chance to obtain FREE money to start up a business. Let those who wish to complain without taking stock of what is sprouting all over the place in Nigeria continue to do so, but let the wise ones amongst us go for it; there is no harm in trying and it will give vital experience in business plan writing at the very least; at the most, you could get a few cool million to take off.

If you fall within the group that can apply and have a great business idea, do not listen to the whiners; seize your opportunity with both hands.

You still haven't answered my question. I repeat, WHAT MAKES YOU SO SURE THAT SUBVERSION IS THE INTENT OF THESE PEEPS?
Maybe we should wait for the court to define subversion to the errant pressmen. They will certainly be charged today or tommorrow; everything else is academic.
I hope, though that the charge sheet is strewn with rocks, boulders and bottomless chasms, for the sake of Nigeria.

@beaf

Why are you assuming the position of the Judge?, How are u so sure the letter was forged?, an accuse is presumed innocent until proven otherwise. If the police are indeed sure the letter was forged then they should proceed to the court where it would be proven beyond any reasonable doubt for all to see then the accused can be made to face the full weight of the law.

Meanwhile, what happens the law that states a suspect cannot cannot use more than 48hrs in detention before taken to court?, oops, i forgot, we are in Nigeria (the lawless land)
What makes you think they are not going to be charged? We don't yet know what the charge sheet will read, but I believe and hope it reads like a sermon from hell; we need to learn dignified politics in this country.
As for the 48 hours, they still have quite some way to go before the clock runs out, afterall they were only arrested yesterday.
