Politics › Re: Buhari Bakare Manifesto - The Best Ever! by Beaf: 6:29pm On Feb 24, 2011
LOL

This intervention has been provoked, not so much by the ambitions of General Buhari to return to power at the head of a democratic Nigeria, as by declarations of support from directions that leave one totally dumbfounded. It would appear that some, myself among them, had been overcomplacent about the magnitude of an ambition that seemed as preposterous as the late effort of General Ibrahim Babangida to aspire yet again to the honour of presiding over a society that truly seeks a democratic future.  What one had dismissed was a rash of illusions, brought about by other political improbabilities that surround us, however, is being given an air of plausibility by individuals and groupings to which one had earlier attributed a sense of relevance of historic actualities.

Recently, I published an article in the media, invoking the possible recourse to psychiatric explanation for some of the incongruities in conduct within national leadership. Now, to tell the truth, I have begun to seriously address the issue of which section of society requires the services of a psychiatrist. The contest for a seizure of rationality is now so polarized that I am quite reconciled to the fact it could be those of us on this side, not the opposing school of thought that ought to declare ourselves candidates for a lunatic asylum. So be it. While that decision hangs in the balance however, the forum is open. Let both sides continue to address our cases to the electorate, but also prepare to submit ourselves for psychiatric examination.

GenBuhari:
Buhari never led the coup aginst Shagari, he was appointed by his peers after Shagari was already overthrown.

Even if he had led the coup it was highly justified and popular, as Shagari's government ceased to be a democracy when he rigged the elections to be re-elected in 1983.

Did you know that Buhari has a proven track record as head of state?, this is why those who witnessed his leadership are confident that he could deliver.

In just 1.5 years of leadership, people noticed an instant improvement in their lives.

Inflation fell from 25% to 4%

Corruption almost stamped out

Streets were clean, queues were orderly

Crime rates were low and streets were safe.

Most importantly he refused to dance to the tune of IMF and western countries and chose the right route for Nigeria.

For youngsters who never witness Buhari's leadership, why not reserve judgement until you have spoken to your parents?
Really? He is a sharia crazed ethnic bigot. Shagari is Fulani like Buhari, but Ekwueme is an Igbo man, so judge for yourself:

but against whom was Buharis coup staged? Judging by the conduct of that regime, it was not against Shagaris government but against the opposition. The head of government, on whom primary responsibility lay, was Shehu Shagari. Yet that individual was kept in cozy house detention in Ikoyi while his powerless deputy, Alex Ekwueme, was locked up in Kiri-kiri prisons. Such was the Buhari notion of equitable apportionment of guilt and/or responsibility

There are no Yoruba people in Edo state, except you get your stories from motorparks and beer palours. This constant calling of Midwest people either Igbo or Yoruba has got to stop. I've always heard the rubbish tales from rewires and shoemakers, but NL has been an eye opener.

Even the biggest countries are having problems getting out of Libya. Its not going to be easy, especially as Nigerians are visibly black. The way I see it, we will need to send in armed squads to bring our people out.

May God punish those almajiri's and Boko Harams that took their trade to Libya and have been shooting the people in cold blood.

honestly relying on the south south is a waste of time , those back stabbers , and the SW see everything igbo as competetion and would rather prefer to out compete . alliance should be with middle belt and north ,if you sit down with them they are willing to reason with you as long as you support them too when their time comes. thats the bitter truth, they have the number needed to win . second option is reintroducing zoning.the SE is on its own .
I am from the SS and don't know a single person that see's Igbo's in that light. Its all in the mind and thats why you think an "alliance" with your traditional slavemaster is worth having. Dude, believe me we are better off being positive and forging strong alliances that are as our natural shared cultural values and words.
It doesn't even look sensible to ally across the desert, while your immediate neighbours are kept at arms length. Most of the reasons for the quarrels are mythical anyway.

Phones seized from Abuja bomb suspect's cell
AFP
By Jean-Jacques Cornish

Police have seized eight mobile telephones and maps and documents from the Johannesburg prison cell of Nigerian rebel leader and suspected terrorist Henry Okah. Okah is due for trial in South Africa for allegedly orchestrating last year’s twin bombings in Abuja in which 12 people were killed.
Okah is believed to have made phone calls to Nigerian president Goodluck Jonathan from his prison cell, threatening further attacks.

Tipped off by Nigerian authorities, specialised South African tactical response prison officers stormed the cell after lock-down on Tuesday and found the phones and documents. The seized items posed a major security threat, according to a South African prison official.

Police say the discovery shows how dangerous the former leader of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (Mend) is.

South African and Nigerian authorities believe Okah is still an active member of Mend.
The maps found in his cell show the court where he is due to appear in April – probably to aid an escape attempt.

Prison authorities are investigating why Okah was being held in a section of the jail used to isolate and protect convicted policemen rather than in the maximum security wing.

They will investigate several warders believed to have benefited substantially from supplying Okah with the contraband.

Okah’s attorney, Rudi Krause, has not responded to queries.

Dude, the Niger Delta is not the only part of the country that needs development. The North needs it too and IBB happens to OWN that acreage. The recent ACF selections have only strengthened his grip immeasurably; so until April, he must be given his due, monster or not; thats politics.

The North too, is important.
Politics › Re: If Jonathan Were Igbo by Beaf: 4:41pm On Feb 24, 2011
The article is sadly true. Truth must be told that the Igbo have been maligned in the Nigerian scheme of things.
Fact is they must begin to come out of the cold, grasp the bull by the horns and play on the national stage; all Nigerians are equal.

IMHO, the alliance with the SS is the right way to go. Next, we must reach out to the Middle Belt and then Westwards. Way to go. cool

Can legal backing not be expedited to ratify the operation of the ECA ? When GEJ begged the senate to quickly pass the anti-terrorism bill because bombings was making a fool of his Government did our legislators not oblige ?GEJ , through Aganga, argued that the ECA was innapropriate for many reasons. It makes sense that if you will kill off the ECA then its replacement should be ready and operational if transparency and accountability are strong considerations for GEJ's government. Tell us why GEJ hurriedly withdrew $1 billion for the "commencement" of the SWF when no one was 100 sure legal backing would even be obtained for its operations ? Where is the $1 billion withdrawn for the "commencement" of the SWF being held today? Has Jonathan , through deliberate ineptitude and corruption , not now left Nigeria in a poor position as per where to lodge windfall oil earnings ? The SWF has replaced the ECA . The only problem is that it still does not exist many months after $1 billion was withdrawn as start-up fund for it . Meanwhile the ECA is also discredited as not having adequate legal backing to act as a destination for windfall earnings and rainy day savings. Perhaps oil windfall earnings should be held in the personal account of Tony Anenih.
Look at this cracked record! grin
Is legal backing not being expedited for the Sovereign Fund? All sorts of criminal minded plonkers are deeply saddened that the illegal frameworks of the past are being dismantled and accountable intruments that are 100% backed by law and 100% accountable are being set up. Damn!

The rest of what you've written is the same old desperate crap, exagerations and lies no grown up should be found spouting. Lol!

Accountability has come to Nigeria, paint it in any colour you like. Rainy day savings have been spent on the rainy day, money must work for the country. 3 new refineries are being built at a cost of some $23billion dollars, I'm sure you thing that money would drop out of the sky miraculously, same with money for the various power plants sprouting up across the nation; the 2,600MW Mambilla power plant that has been spoken about since the time of the dinosaurs you folk represent is being built at this mo for some $4billa, of course that money would jump out of the sky too!!!

Unu go wound pesin wit laf o!!

Instead of your empty, meaningless candidates to hit the road like GEJ is doing and tell the long suffering Nigeria masses what they have to offer, they send out equally empty goons to swear, cuss on NL and sieze on the daftest inanities. Do they actually care about the country?
Dude, its the streets that matter most, the shoemaker, rewire, orange seller and what can be done to lift them from misery, not the silly talk on NL.

On a serious note, GEJ is the only candidate campaigning and showing that Nigerians are important. For the others, it seems they are too high up and born to rule; they don't give a damn or show any sign of seriousness, they are like inanimate objects set up for their followers to worship even though they have no clue why they worship. Yet their supporters come out to play when GEJ is seriously campaigning and winning hearts and minds. After the man repeats his Atiku style landslide, we will see them griping loudly, and of course, not knowing the reason why they are griping. Lol!

This is why Taofeek identifies with GEJ, cos the bus speaks to him, jingles speak to him, his church or mosque speak to him. Its a grassroots thing, its a social thing, its a family thing. Its something the butchers, hunters, carpentars, okada riders, danfo drivers, teachers, kids, you and I know about. Its a powerful message for Fresh Air 2011:

www.nairaland.com/attachments/385727_GEJ_jpg541ff6882d3217b426186b828ba2646b

Unfortunately, none of the others have been able to match such organisation, neither are any of the other candidates in the least bit serious about campaigning or telling us what they would do for us. Buhari has told Taofeek absolute nada.

I feel the opposition parties are not structured to pass their message. It is a problem that makes PDP look so effective even with their blunders. Long term planning is something that is missing and sadly there are many Taofeeks.

On another note, I don't believe analyzing EPL is a bad thing, I read even on NL, folks who have good knowledge of the game. Personally, it is an easier way for folks to learn about cultures. In the 90s, I watched weekly Rothmas soccer program and I learnt so much that I couldn't get in geography class. Even prompted me to study city history and rivalry between teams.(eg Rangers vs Celtics). EPL could stimulate your desire to learn more.
The bolded is correct, but in the CPC's case, they are stunted by their leaders antisocial and aloof personality. You need to identify with and rub shoulders with the ordinary person, speak their language, talk their talk and walk their walk. Take this for example:

We all know the ECA was created for excess earnings from oil . GEJ depleted it deliberately while fraudulently producing , more or less , a 'dead on arrival' and moribund SWF (soveriegn wealth fund) as the new account to replace the ECA . Oil is now at an unbudgeted record high of £108.00 per barrel - and rising . Our current capacity is circa 2.6 million BPD. The current situation sustaining high oil prices may remain for a while yet. The SWF , for which $1 billion was hurriedly withdrawn from the ECA, still does not exist. That they are not working to expedite the laws to ratify the operation of the SWF after $1 billion was withdrawn almost a year ago for its "commencement" is greatest proof of a cheap 419 scam from a cluelessly desperate government . What will now happen to the excess income , above our budgeted earning predicated on much lower average per barrel income, we are gaining from spiralling oil prices ?

You hit the nail on the head with how you suggest GEJ has been taking lessons from IBB regarding how to make increased billions in oil income , precipitated by events outside Nigeria , dissapear into thin air .
Calm down with the exagerations and lies. Such things don't get you far. Lol.
. . .Just for emphasis, oil is not sold in pounds but dollars.

There is absolutely no reason for Abuja pilgrimages, the LG's should finance the states, which in turn should finance the FG; but we have it the opposite way and have ended up not even able to manufacture a pin. Yet we point fingers.

There are several cities (yes, mere cities) in the World with higher GDP's than the whole of Nigeria combined, and its done through proper planning and harnessing of physical and human resources; not drilling for oil and everyone queueing up, bowl in hand like bums.
