Nigeria wasn't formed for the Jonathans of Niger delta Source: Ben Ikari. Nigeria Was Not Formed to Benefit Minorities such as Jonathan: His Emergence is a Threat to the Status Quo, Care Must be taken to Protect him from Northern Cabals and others From the outset, Nigeria was created not to work for nor include the so-called minorities (the President Jonathans) as equal members of the nation. Being the contraption it's, Nigeria was created by oppressors, crooks and exploiters of Britain who used all mean necessary and available to achieve their aims and objectives. These means included the killing of emerging stars, oppositions or any person who summed up courage to speak out or ask questions. The British colonialists, having used about 2,000 soldiers mostly from the north (plus Middle-belt) to invade, kill and conquered the independent peoples/nationalities, which formed both Northern and Southern protectorates (against their wishes) to submission decided to use Northerners as errand tools. What the errands gained in return was power and an indoctrination of how to continue the crooked scheming, killing, exploiting and controlling. To succeed, however, the north has to stay in connection (like brothers) and in agreement with colonial Britain. The Northern-British relationship climaxed in the 1800s, when the British tax-payers reportedly used their money to run what is now Northern Nigeria or the Hausa-Fulani. Why did this happen? Research shows that the north had (and still has) vast space of dry land (with cows from Niger) and knew nothing to do with it that could help them create revenues. Implying, they couldn't even raise a budget to run their local councils. At a time when British tax-payers became fed up helping to run them with their resources the north was dropped from the help list. What also engendered this move was when the colonial masters realized that the south, which comprised of what is presently Yoruba/Lagos, Benin kingdom areas, Igbo and today's south-south (Niger delta) had abundant riches. By the time help stopped coming from Britain the devilish colonialists had perfected their craft of how to exploit the south to run the dry and poor north. This trend happened successfully with a semblance of balance. That is, the south still got some benefits until the advent of oil. All these periods the independent nationalities considered minorities today were played out of everything and so knew nothing going on nor did they had a say, as they don't have today. The worst of the disrespect, abuse, cruelty and exploitation was during the unfortunate and illegal amalgamation (forcing of independent nationalities/nations against their wishes to form a union in the interest of Britain and the north especially) of the southern and northern protectorates in 1914. Note that, like the application of British tax-payer's money for the upkeep of the north, this aforementioned amalgamation was primarily orchestrated as a source through which resources from the south will benefit the north to relief Britain and also help the imperialists fulfill dream for their empire. Again, of all these moves and maneuvers, the forced groups which form the colonies before the birth of Nigeria, on Oct. 1, 1960, nearly 98% of them didn't play any role nor have any say, yet they're distinct and had pre-colonial independence or sovereignty. The above analogy has been the reason Nigeria locked out on minorities. The fact that some of the minorities have had and still have the natural resources especially crude oil and gas, the nation depends on had made no impact. It's when Ken Saro-Wiwa emerged in the early 1990s that the oil issue, Niger delta, the people's rights and environment resurfaced. His launching a nonviolent agitation to right the wrongs of the past led to his hanging on Nov. 10, 1995. Of course, his live and death shall be celebrated nine days from today (on Nov. 10) to mark the 15the anniversary of his (and 8 others) hanging by $hell, a British company and the Nigerian government of the north. Why did these people die for demanding their rights? They're minorities who challenged the British and Northern politician's status quo ante. Some stooges from the West (Yoruba) East (Igbo) and South-South (Niger delta) served as accomplice. The British-Northern Nigeria's collaboration had perfected their murder industry that will kill any opposition or perceived threat to their drilling of minority oil to build British companies, government and the Northern Nigerian cabals, etc. Isaac Adaka Boro, upset with the status quo and treatment of the Niger delta people decided to take up arms and declared what was known as the Niger delta Republic from Nigeria in 1966. He's murdered by the aforementioned murder squad like the Ogoni Nine. This arms struggle resurfaced in 2004, given credence to both Boro and Saro-Wiwa's protest. Dr. Goodluck Jonathan, who became the first Niger delta or minority president of Nigeria by a means Northern cabals are yet to fathom is also seen as a threat like Saro-Wiwa and Boro. Although President Jonathan, a Niger deltan may have been accepted by PDP as a means of quelling down or putting out the intensity of Niger delta (MEND) insurgency which is the same method the colonialists dealt with oppositions. The north sees him as a Niger deltan or minority threat now that he's the president and attempting to control power for another four years. This period is like 50 years to the north even though they've ruled Nigeria than any group. Their fear is that they are losing grip on the multi-billion dollars oil industry they've depended on for decades. As usual, and based on their agreement with Britain (like America and Israel), Northern cabals which includes Ibrahim Babangida, who dashed the hope of Nigeria in 1993 by annulling the freest and fairest presidential elections, are poised to protect what they believed is their birthright-of course, it isn't! They will do anything including attempts on the life of President Jonathan, to protect their fortresses, maintain the status quo that is exploiting the Niger delta to keep the north running like they've been taught by the British. Therefore, proper care must be taken to protect Jonathan because this is a life and death battle between Northern cabals, British interest and the south especially for the oilfields and gas reserves. It isn't about elections or doing anything that will help the Nigerian people, but oil and gas wealth. Any obstacle or perceived threat shall be taken out-so says the British and Northern (Hausa-Fulani) interest. They will use their stooges from the south-west, east and south-south (Niger delta) to perfect their diabolical plans. Babangida alone knows how the killer quad operates, not to mention all others and their British interest mercenary. I repeat, Jonathan should be extra smart and careful. If he didn't believe it before (after the bombs of Oct. 1 and the many shipments of arms reportedly entering the country), he should by now that he's a minority not fit according to this cabals to rule and possibly take their birthright away. Finally, no gain saying the fact that the north has most of the 36 states (followed by the west-Yoruba and East-Igbos), which are about 90% nonviable. What keeps these states is the oil from Niger delta. This ethnic method of creating states against viability is informed by the majority's bid to keep the nation in their control. The north had of course relished in this mentality of using guns to threaten, control and kill any "baga" from Niger delta or elsewhere who comes up raising an eye-brow. This mechanics have worked best with the national assembly framework too. By this design, two members come from each state. The north has the most members of both houses of representatives and the senate which forms the national assembly. Politics is a game of number and so this arrangement isn't in any conceivable way working in the interest of the minorities. No wonder nothing is changing! The presidency of Jonathan can only succeed if he's honest, extra smart to present issues that will work for the entire nation and also reward the minorities of Niger delta (his region) for decades of exploitation and deaths-including environmental catastrophes caused by oil exploitation that's polishing the majority-northerner cabals indeed. It's also possible that new people-elected representatives from the majority groups especially the north may rethink and work with Jonathan for programs that will serve the benefit of all the groups that willy-nilly formed Nigeria. Change and new beginnings are always possible so long as the people are determined to effect this change even with their lives. This change is possible in this present situation. The problem is that the north would have accepted a candidate from anywhere else, whether on zoning basis (which is undemocratic) or otherwise. Their heart-beating worry is that a member of the oppressed Niger delta they've exploited and killed is the one raising his head. Think a about it! What a threat, they're thinking! Jonathan may not even be concentrating on righting the wrongs against his people nor could he be thinking a revenge but what may work best for all. The likes of his advisers may even point to his direction. Because of the history, intent and greed, and a bid for Britain through their companies ($hell Oil, etc.) to maintain their colonial hostage, it's less than likely Jonathan would succeed as the first minority/Niger delta president of Nigeria. The problems and threats he's getting from Northern politicians who feared their grip to the nation and wealth would vanish are exponentially high. This fear is heightened by the fear of fears; fear that they may face reprisal for decades of terror and sorrow, deaths unleashed on the Niger delta and others. Yet Jonathan may be doing his best to carry every group along against the historical sectional trend. Jonathan and the people around him must therefore be very careful and smart. He must be protected to alter the status quo and also fulfill whatever mission he's. This warning shouldn't be thrown away with a wave of hand because of historical facts and a laid down design for Nigeria not to work for the oppressed minority but the so-called majority and Northerners in particular. There is serious danger ahead, as there is also hope and victory over evil. http://www.modernghana.com/news/302697/1/nigeria-wasnt-formed-for-the-jonathans-of-niger-de.html |
Why should an adult actually take time out to post such a foolish topic? The OP has actually taken the time to spam this board, no less than 7 times with such a braindead matter. What sort of donkey behaviour is that? OP, people have seen your article and think it isn't worth commenting on. So please stop the spamming. |
Any discussion about capitalism is quickly overtaken by the deliberate confusion built into its modern definitions by colonisers and exploiters who see the greed of the few as an invaluable tool to dominate the many. Until Global economic meltdown, their mantra was, "greed is good." If defined as a system in which private production generates private wealth through natural competition, then capitalism becomes almost an ideal. The only drivers against its ideal status are societal laws, traditions and non-obvious needs; a good example is the protection and commercialisation of inventions. By their very nature, inventions are non-obvious to the average mind, yet have the potential to drive society upwards; in developed capitalist countries, the competitive factor in capitalism is discarded to give the inventor an unfair advantage for the benefit of all; this is done in the form of patents and copyrights. The long and short of the above, is that capitalism must be governed in the wider interest of society. The problems most have with capitalism are due to its evil use by colonisers and exploiters who have made themselves the “holy men” of capitalism. The readiest tool in the exploiters arsenal is the deliberate obfuscation of the boundaries between the concepts of freedom, free markets, democracy and capitalism; for example, classifying China as "State Capitalist", because (amongst other similar reasons) China does not allow non-governmental players determine the value of its currency, the Yuan. The thing to fear and loathe is not capitalism, but the purveyors of freedom, free markets, democracy and capitalism as a single ideology. The two orphans in the above ideology are freedom and the free market. Freedom must have limits or give way to anarchy and dissolution of law, morality and society; while the free market concept is anarchic and the very antithesis of individual freedoms (corporations become societal gods). |
alj harem:But there are no known external obstacles to the formation of Arewa, so why in Gods good name has it not been formed? We have been praying fervently for Ciroma, Yakasai, Kaita, Bello etc to lead their followers on a journey into the desert. . . but una gree go? |
I can't laugh hard enough at that old bat, Ciroma. The man simply has no self respect; they gave Uncle Joe a one week ultimatum to drop out of the Presidential (because it is Ciroma's family property) or be impeached. The President basically looked them in the eye and replied, "up yours" in his now well known "say little, bite big" style, and the weak lil legs of the tribalist, senile old bat gang of Ciroma, Kaita, Bello, Yakasai etc simply buckled. ![]() It is amusing to listen to old, tribalist fools swallow their own smelly gunge. |
We won’t impeach Jonathan - Ciroma •I’m not desperate for power -President Written by Idowu Samuel and Christian Okeke, Abuja Tuesday, 02 November 2010 THE Northern Leaders Political Forum (NLPF) said on Monday that it was no longer interested in the plan to impeach President Goodluck Jonathan on the basis of the one-week ultimatum given to him to resign some weeks ago. The Forum said it was more particular about how to ensure a northern presidency in 2011 than calling for Jonathan’s impeachment, stating that the North has no time on its side to do that. The leader of the Forum, Mallam Adamu Ciroma, made this known in Abuja during an interview with newsmen, stating that a Northern presidency in 2011 would have put paid to the agitation and rising temper on the issue of zoning in Nigeria. Ciroma said the North was not joking about its clamour for Northern presidency, disclosing that it had never been more challenged to pursue a political cause than now on the necessity to ensure that one of the four presidential aspirants in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) got the presidential slot of the party for the coming election. He said the PDP was only pretending not to fully recognise zoning, as, according to him, the outcome of its primaries would confirm to Nigerians that zoning exists as a political arrangement meant to foster unity, better understanding and harmony among the component units of the country. Ciroma said the North believed that President Jonathan was about using its slot in a manner that would deprive it of presidential power for more than 12 years, despite allegedly sacrificing so much to entrench the presidency of former President Olusegun Obassanjo for eight years, and hence was not prepared to give up on clamour to take over the presidential power in 2011. Ciroma recounted how the deal on zoning was struck under former President Obasanjo, stating that zoning arrangement on a two-term basis was struck by PDP stakeholders in 2002 with the incumbent president in attendance. He said: “It is two terms, because in 2002, when former President Obasanjo wanted a second term, he called a meeting of the expanded caucus of the PDP. About 84 people attended. All, except two people, agreed. “And those people agreed that President Obasanjo should get a second term, and that the zoning and the rotation should be based on two terms. So, there is no doubt about this. They are on paper, and it was then under the leadership of Obasanjo. This president (Jonathan) was in attendance representing his governor (Alamieyeseigha). He was in attendance in that meeting which agreed to zoning and to rotation. “I am saying that I know more about PDP than him (Jonathan). I was there when PDP was formed. And I have been in this PDP all this time. And I have not been an insignificant member of the PDP and I can never deny what I know to be the truth. And the truth is that there was zoning even before Obasanjo was elected and there was zoning which reconfirmed Obasanjo as president.” He dismissed speculations that the team had zoned the Middle Belt candidates out of reckoning in consideration of the choice of presidential candidate for the North, adding that the race for now was limited to only the four who collected the PDP nomination forms to contest in the 2011 presidential election. He specifically said both General Ibrahim Babangida and Dr Bukola Saraki were in the reckoning on the issue of consensus candidacy and that they were part of the presidential aspirants who the ‘wise men’ were collecting data on. He said: “We have been going round the North. We have been to every state except two. Niger State and Nasarawa states, to tell them about the problem of producing a consensus candidate to seek their advice on how to produce a consensus candidate. “We have now got a report of what people’s views are all over the North. Now, the committee will sit down to consider the report as one of the inputs into the process of choosing a candidate. We have not been in a hurry because we don’t want to catch coin; we think it is better to do it thoroughly than to do it quickly.” Ciroma said because of age factor, he would not join issues with Clark, noting that the matter at hand demanded the understanding of the South-South zone of the federation. Ciroma said: “The South-South may not have produced the president but this argument does not affect the issue before us. The issue before us in PDP is that there is a zoning and rotation policy and that policy is actually being implemented right now. It was implemented to elect president Obasanjo twice. “When he tried to get prolongation of his regime, we all refused in order to maintain the zoning and rotation policy and he too had to obey zoning and rotation by bringing a candidate from Katsina. He is from the North, so we agreed. The time allocated to the North was eight years, which is equivalent to the time allocated to the South for which Obasanjo served, eight years.” Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan, on Monday, said that as the race for the presidency in 2011 gathered momentum, it was to be expected that some persons would naturally begin to be dangerously anxious to the extent of hitting some of the aspirants below the belt. However, he said he did not care about his personal safety, but that the safety and security of the citizenry, with regards to the age-long aspirations of development. Jonathan, who stated this on his Facebook account, noted that it was not his intention to garner votes of the electorate through mudslinging or blackmail, but through performance and the realisation of a promise that through him, every Nigerian, regardless of circumstances of birth, state of origin, parental background, access to power and money, could contribute his or her quota to the unity and progress of the country. The president observed that by nature and upbringing, desperation was not one of his credentials, and likened politically-motivated attacks against him to those targeted to make Americans afraid of President Barack Obama by persons he noted wanted to stop a change which time has come. In his words: “When you hear or read of attacks on me or any other candidate, please be patriotic enough to resist the temptation of joining them to trivialise the presidential race. I urge you to very gently ask the purveyors of such fanciful tales of degradation to rather tell you about their plans for Nigeria as I have done. If they have plans, then they ought to run on them. If they do not, it means that they have none and it is trite knowledge that those who have no plan, plan only to fail and Nigeria and Nigerians in whatever conditions are no failures!” http://tribune.com.ng/index.php/front-page-news/12990-we-wont-impeach-jonathan-ciroma-im-not-desperate-for-power-president |
gadogado:So, why hasn't Israel been dominated? What sort of weapons would a hungry North (or whatever) possess to threaten the SS with? Here's a small story for you to make something out of: While the mother hawk was teaching her babies how to hunt, she sent them out on a test. The first one returned with a chick and the mother hawk asked what the chicks mother did in defence; her baby replied that the chicks mother screamed, swore, broke things and ranted. To that, the mother hawk said, "eat the damn thing!" The second baby returned with a chick and as usual, the mother hawk asked what the chicks mother did in defence; her baby replied that the chicks mother never said a word, never shed a tear, she just remained quiet. In her wisdom, the mother hawk adviced, "return that chick to its mother without hesitation!" |

Onlytruth:I think every Nigerian must be aware of the cards being laid down on the table. Nobody is giving ground to any fcker, especially to fckers like the Ciroma's and Kanti Bello's who hail from Nigeria's backwaters like Katsina and Yobe. Who do these people think they are dictating to? I like the way you say "REAL federal character," it sounds totally mischievous . An easy way to kill the "argument" would be to emphasise both merit and the high tech angle, that way you knock off any unschooled people (and shame no go let pipul complain ).The next step would be to do a thorough internal "reorganisation" of JTF, which is by far Nigeria's most powerful brigade; with sea, land and air components. After which they can be further beefed up with more sophisticated drones than they currently have, better personel carriers and desert fighting tactics. Let the new National Guard alone, man Abuja. After all the above (and more, trusting more knowledgable security folk), Yakasai, Ciroma, Kanti Bello and the other members of their their gang of bats can be locked up and the key thrown away. |

If that respect can only come through force, then so be it. I believe that is the FG's thinking. If anyone is importing rockets and setting off bombs, then let them be ready. |

This whole saga might degenerate into a Southsouth North war. My advice to him is that despite d massive arms buildup, despite the numerous militants in the region, the south-south is not ready (and can't never be ready) to take on d North. Although GEJ, is definitely not the suitable person for the no 1 job in d country, he shd thread gently, rule d country for 8 yrs and go home to spend his loot. He might never become a hero, but @ least he won't be a traitor.
People keep saying these really foolish things. I'll ask just a few questions. What is Nigeria without the SS? Where is every penny that buys weapons and uniforms from? have you ever heard the saying, "he who pays the piper, dictates the tune?" What exactly has the North got that can sustain a war effort with the SS for even a week? The SS can aquire several billion dollars worth of weaponry the North has never heard of at very short notice, what can the North do in response? Where will Northern troops get fuel for their effort, do you know how much fuel an amoured car or a plane consumes? In this days of drones and other advanced weaponry, how many computer experts can the North muster? The North stands no chance in a war with the SS. Period. ps; the North is distinct from the Middle Belt. |

I strongly suspect that Lagos has been spared a shock attack by those who have had their influence in the army cut down. The trick is, get the tools in (rockets, rockets launchers, explosives etc), then infiltrate the men in as civilians, beggars, mai guards, market men etc. When everything is in place, launch an surprise attacks on one or more military barracks to capture them and get more loyalist tropps and heavy equipment. With Lagos down, the whole SW would have been easy pickings. This game plan has been used over and over in asymetric warfare; in Nigeria, it was used by Great Ogboru and Gideon Orkah to launch the only coup that nearly succeeded during IBB's time. . . It was launched from a warehouse in Ikorodu. The SW bera watch it, cos some see them as a problem child that must be subjugated. There have also been recent discoveries of oil in commercial quantities in Lagos. Need I say more? In my opinion, all military establishments in Lagos and Ibadan need to be shaken up quite deeply and quite urgently (esp. Ikeja and Ojo cantonments), to protect that axis from any dastardly acts. Azazi, over to you! |

Gayigaskia:If there is a plan to capture Lagos and Yorubaland, then similar to the Gideon Orkah coup, arms might be imported and stored in warehouses; later on on, men would be bussed in, some as almajiri's and beggars, others as business men etc. It worked for Great Ogboru and Gideon Orkah in the past, as the most successful coup attempt that saw IBB scuttling out of Lagos in a mad dash for Abuja's Aso Rock defences. It was a coup attempt by the Niger Delta minorities in partnership with their Middle Belt counterparts, and being minorities with little representation on the military, they needed a plan of sheer genius. It is history that they came within a whisker of success with a coup launched from a warehouse in out of town Ikorodu (core Northern control of the army has been cut off). Maybe, someone thinks they can emulate it and carry out something similar from a warehouse in Orile, but SSS don cramp dem sha! The plan is simple, you station a few arms, get the men in, launch suprise attacks on barracks and gain a lot of men and weapons; then you launch a massive attack. . . |
Charge Northern leaders for treason – Okpozo News Oct 27, 2010 By Simon Ebegbulem BENIN—SOUTH South leader and second republic senator, Senator Francis Okpozo, yesterday, raised an alarm that the recent comments from some Northern leaders who are opposed to the 2011 Presidential aspiration of President Goodluck Jonathan are capable of disintegrating the country and called on the Federal Government to charge these northern leaders for treason. He specifically mentioned the names of the leader of the Northern leaders political Forum and former Minister of Finance, Adamu Ciroma, and that of elder Statesman, Alhaji Tanko Yakassai, as fueling embers of war asserting however that South South leaders “are prepared for any situation that can give us independence in the South; we equally pray that the Northerners should take the same step.” Okpozo who spoke to Vanguard in an interview in Benin City, argued that President Goodluck Jonathan is better qualified than any of the northern candidates particularly in the area of fighting corruption, reforms in the power, educational sectors and wondered why the duo of Ciroma and Yakassai would engage in “campaign of calumny against President Jonathan who is from the oil producing area.” According to him, “He (Ciroma) should remember that he has served this country for a long time and being an elder statesman he should not stand in a position to cause what we call a situation of disintegration of this country. He himself may belong to a political party and he may champion the cause of that political party, but where he is going to dabble into the affairs of other states in the North who are not members of the PDP, organizing governors and individuals in those states to run down Mr President, to create problem between the North and the South, is regarded as treason. It is a situation that can disintegrate this country. “Ciroma and Yakassai, with their wisdom and what they benefited from the governments they served, should remember that all funds arising from the oil producing states of Nigeria have been used maximally to develop the North. Today, for over fifty years oil has been the only means of our economy in this country. And it is where President Jonathan comes from that is the major oil producing community, Delta and Bayelsa states. “When they talk about oil production, all those who ruled this nation undemocratically as President came from the North, excerpt Sir Tafawa Belawa, Shagari and Yar’Adua.” All of them are from the North. Before you talk of military Presidents in this country, you talk of Abacha, Buhari, Babangida, for so many years the Hausas have been the most beneficiaries of our oil. He should not forget that the cause of militancy in the Niger Delta is as a result of marginalization and this oppression came from the North. “People from the South are not animals, they are not fools that any body can cheat. People from the South are well educated and they understands the situation in this country. So it is good for all the Northerners who are collaborating with Ciroma to advise him to stay clear for this situation of anarchy he wants to plunge this nation into if Nigeria has to be one” he declared. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2010/10/charge-northern-leaders-for-treason-okpozo/ |
The brand of Islam practised in Nigeria is Sunni. Unfortunately, Al Qaeda is also Sunni; Nigeria has terrorist groups affiliated with Al Qaeda in North Africa. Al Qaeda groups will never recieve arms from Iran, in fact Iran see's Al Qaeda as a mortal enemy. However, Boko haram and Maitatsine cults in Nigeria practice Shiite Islam (the same as Iran Nigerian politicians in the core North see the employment of shocking acts of violence as a short term route to gaining the upper hand; but this time, the omens portend a very dark future. I only foresee the core North dissolving into a sharia, Somali like cesspit when groups like Al Qaeda in North Africa (which sees the core North as its territory) begin to see the arming of shiite groups (Boko haram and Maitatsine cults) to sophisticated levels as an afront that deserves violent reactions. Time to erect a wall to separate Southern Kaduna, Plateau, areas in Bauchi etc. Let us be onlookers, not partakers. |

Ok, so Sahara Reporters has now sunk to the new low of publishing sob stories about Henry and Charles Okah? Wonders shall never cease! In their concucted tale that sounds like the job of a lunatic, one brother is made to look like a demon, while those that are on trial for the blood of 16 innocent souls are made to look like heroes! What sort of scum are in control of Sahara Reporters? |
netotse: @olafolarinThis is the one factor most people discount. The Yar Adua built a very deep reservoir of hatred against Ribadu in the North. He is wrongly seen almost like a traitor there and an Obj stooge, but that is hard fact. The only way for Ribadu to win Northern cred, is to wait in the wings while the Ciroma's, Yakasai's and the last vestiges of the cabal are trounced, then the younger progressives in the Umars, Ribadu's and El-Rufai's can step in and pick up the mantle of leadership. That way, he would play himself into serious stakes nationwide and be see as one of the heros that vanquished the cabal. The route Ribadu is taking now is totally wrong and he will end up in limbo with a party that has allowed him make very public blunders in his interviews; in fact, he is little more than a cleanup toy for Tinubu. |
@Olafolarin U.S AGENTS EXPOSE BOLA TINUBU'S DRUG TRAFFICKING DEALS Facts have emerged that the erstwhile Governor of Lagos state, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu may have been involved in a white heroin trafficking network which operated in Chicago and some parts of Indiana and led by one Adegboyega Mueez Akande between 1988 and 1993. The source of the white heroine was identified as one Mr. Lee Andrew Edwards who was incarcerated for attempting to murder a federal agent while the agent was executing a search warrant on him. According to the Verified Complaint for forfeiture in case No. 93 C 4483 Obtained by SaharaReporters, which was filed on July 26, 1993 before the Hon. Judge Nordberg of the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, the United States Government urged the Court to order the forfeiture of funds in accounts Nos. 263226700 held by First Heritage Bank in the name of Bola Tinubu, funds in accounts 39483134, 39483396, 4650279566, 00400220, 39936404 and 39936383 held by Citibank N.A in the name of Bola Tinubu and funds in accounts 52050-89451952,52050-89451952, 52050-89451953 held by Citibank in the name of Bola Tinubu because there was probable cause to believe that the funds in Tinubu's bank accounts represented proceeds of narcotics trafficking or were monies involved in financial transactions in violations of 18 U.S.C, sections 1956 and 1957 and therefore, was forfeitable to the U.S Government. However, in a tacit defense of the ownership of the funds, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu averred in Court that the funds belonged to himself, his wife, K.O Tinubu and his surrogate mother, Alhaja Mogaji and warranted that they had exclusive right, title and interest to the funds. In an affidavit sworn to by Kevin Moss, a Special Agent with the United States Internal Revenue Service, criminal investigation division in support of the verified complaint for forfeiture of Bola Tinubu's moneys held in various Bank accounts, the agent gave a vivid account of how he came to the conclusion that the funds were proceeds of narcotics transaction in violation of the U.S law. Mr. Moss averred that prior to and during 1988; the government became involved in the investigation of a white heroin trafficking network operating in Chicago, Illinois and Hammond, Indiana. The investigation disclosed that an individual known as Lee Andrew Edwards was a source of white heroin. The government sources provided information about Lee Andrew Edwards including the identity of a telephone number which activated in electronic pager. This pager according to him was to be called to place an order for white heroin. According to Mr. Moss, this pager was subscribed to by one Adegboyega Mueez Akande who at that time was a resident of Chicago. Mr. Moss further averred that during February 1988, an individual named Abiodun Agbele arrived in the U.S from Nigeria and during investigation by the government, Agbele disclosed that Akande was his uncle who provided him an apartment in Hammond, Indiana. According to Agbele, Mr. Akande returned to Nigeria in1990; however, before he left, he instructed Agbale to serve as a source of white heroin for Mr. Lee Andrew Edwards as a result of which Agbele sold white heroin for Lee Andrew Edwards on numerous occasions. Following a tip off, Agbele sold one ounce of white heroin to a law enforcement agent undercover on November 28, 1990 for $7,000 and was subsequently arrested. After his arrest, Agbele agreed to cooperate with the law enforcement agents regarding the white heroin distribution and network of Akande. According to Agbele, Akande controlled the operation of white heroin from Nigeria in conjunction with other individuals in Nigeria and the U.S. One other individual who worked with Akande according to the affidavit was identified as Bola Tinubu who later became the governor of Lagos state from 1999 to 2007. The investigation also revealed that in December 1989, Akande took Bola Tinubu to First Heritage bank where Bola Tinubu opened an individual money market. In the account opening application, Tinubu, gave his address as 7504 South Stewart, Chicago, the same address used previously by Akande and his company, Globe-Link. This is the same address used as the drop-off point for packages from Nigeria that contained the white heroin. According to bank records, Bola Tinubu also opened a joint checking account in his name and the name of his wife, Oluremi Tinubu. Mrs. Tinubu had previously opened a joint Bank account also in the same bank with Abdrey Akande, the wife of the heroin kingpin, Adegboyega Mueez Akande. Upon opening the account, Tinubu deposited the sum of $1,000 in traveler's check. However, five days after opening the account, specifically, on January 4, 1990, Tinubu deposited the sum of $80,000 into the account. According to the federal agent, in a credit application dated January 6, 1990, Bola Tinubu disclosed that he resided at 7504 South Stewart and that Mueez A. Akande was his cousin. Tinubu further stated that he was an employee of Mobil Oil Nigeria Limited, Fairfax, Virginia and his take home pay was $2,400 per month. Additionally, Tinubu stated on the application that he had no other sources of income and listed his wife, Oluremi Tinubu as co-applicant for the application for automobile loan. The loan was secured with the certificate of deposit in the amount of $10,000 which Tinubu had purchased with a withdrawal from the $80,000 deposit in his checking account. According to the federal agent, Bank records from First heritage Bank disclosed that in 1990 alone, Bola Tinubu deposited $661,000 into his individual money market account and in 1993; he deposited the sum of $1,216,500 into the same money market account. The agent further avers that in 1991, Tinubu began opening accounts at Citibank in the section known as the world-wide personal banking unit where he transferred the sum of $560,000 from his money market account at the First Heritage Bank. This development prompted the Federal agents to interview representatives from Mobil Oil regarding Tinubu's employment status and his take-home pay. The Mobil Oil representatives confirmed to the investigators that Tinubu was employed by the Mobil Oil as a treasurer. Mobil Oil further told the federal agents that this position did not involve the transfer of large amounts of money between banking institutions. Mobil oil representatives also stated that under no circumstance would Tinubu be permitted to retain money belonging to Mobil Oil in accounts bearing Tinubu's name. Finally, Mobil Oil confirmed that the corporation never had any accounts in banks in the southern suburbs of Chicago. advertisement On January 10, 1992, the federal agents obtained a court Order freezing Tinubu's accounts at First Heritage Bank and Citibank respectively. Thereafter, Tinubu contacted the First Heritage Bank to transfer money from his accounts and was advised that the accounts had been seized by the U.S Treasury. On January 13, 1992, Mr. Moss, the Federal agent contacted Bola Tinubu in Nigeria by phone using a number provided to the First Heritage Bank by Tinubu himself. Mr. Moss averred that during the course of the interview, Bola Tinubu confirmed that he knew Mueez Adegboyega Akande. Tinubu further admitted during the interview with the federal agent that he had wire transferred $100,000 to Akande's bank account in Houston and that the $80,000.00 of the funds used to open the account at First Heritage Bank had come from Akande. Tinubu further admitted that he had other accounts in Fairfax, Virginia and London. Concluding his affidavit evidence, Mr. Moss stated that with all these evidence, there was probable cause to believe that the funds in the accounts held by First Heritage Bank and Citibank, N.A in the name of Bola Tinubu represented property that was involved in narcotics transaction in violation of the U.S law. He therefore, urged the Court to issue an order of forfeiture of the funds. After a protracted litigation in which Bola Tinubu claimed that the monies legitimately belonged to him, his wife, Oluremi Tinubu and his surrogate mother, one Alhaja Mogaji, Bola Tinubu finally opted for a stipulated settlement with the U.S government. According to the settlement Order dated September 15, 1993; Hon. Judge John A Nordberg ordered that the sum of $460,000 held by Bola Tinubu in The First Heritage Bank account be forfeited to the United States Government. The Court also ordered the release of the funds held in the Citibank account and any money held in excess of $460,000 at the First Heritage account to Bola Tinubu in line with the agreement and stipulation reached by Tinubu with the federal agents. Ironically, this case came up at the peak of the struggle against the annulment of the June 12, 1993 presidential election by the Gen. Babagida-led military junta during which time Tinubu as a member and one of the leading financiers of the National democratic Coalition (NADECO) made several "pro-democracy" trips to the U.S ostensibly to press for U.S sanctions against the Nigerian junta. It is therefore doubtful whether most of those trips were actually connected with the June 12, struggle after all. http://www.pointblanknews.com/os1147.html |
