Logic Mind: Even if it means you, I said saboteurs, not betrayers.
Then it doesn't mean you because you cannot sabotage what you are not part of.
I was speaking of the then Biafran minorities who would be our neighbours when the New Biafra materialises.
They call themselves many things today like MASOP or MEND so I no longer consider them Biafrans but neighbours.
Stop confusing yourself with words whose connotations and meanings are unfamiliar to you.
Also, last time I checked, many Isoko's Urhobo's and Ilaje's were in MEND (even a couple of Igbo's). It seems there are many things you don't know.

ACM10: The fact remains that minority groups are what iz keepin Nigeria united. They are willin toolz in the hands of those that aims to keep the country united. Minorities are very scared of the breakup of this country because they know that they cannot unite to form a country of their own. Their blind patriotizm to Nigerian entity iz borne out of the fear of the unknown. They fear what will become their fate if the entity called Nigeria ceases to exist. Thatz why they are the only group that clamoured for the unitary system of government with strong centre in 1967 conference. If the fear of the minorities are not properly attended to. I don't forsee any scenario of peaceful separation
The first bolded is not true. The minorities just want an equal playing field and guarantees that no one will try to bully them.
I agree with the second bolded. It is a very far reaching statement thats fit to be a thread in its own right.

Logic Mind: You really have no leg to stand on.

I was talking of western Yoruba betrayers, and saboteurs from the minorities inside Biafra.

Where did I mention Midwesterners?

Do yourself a favour and stop these lies.
How can something inside Biafra be a neighbour? shocked
Maybe you are too daft to know the meaning of neighbour:

Logic Mind: By the Holy Grace of Amadioha, Biafra shall be free of northern oppressors, western betrayers and neighbourly saboteurs!

@ACM10

This is a clearer sequence of events leading to the federal presence in Excravos:

By the 12th of July the 2nd Bde had captured Obudu, Gakem, and Ogoja. A second front, the southern sector was opened on the 26 July, 1967 by a sea landing on Bonny by a division formed from the Lagos Garrison Organization (LGO). With the support of the Navy, the division established a beach head and exploited north after a fierce sea and land battle. On 8th August 1967, Biafra invaded the former Mid - Western Region with the aim to relieve the pressure on the northern sector and to threaten Lagos, the Federal Capital. While the LGO was making preparations for subsequent operations beyond Bonny, the news of the rebel infiltration into the Mid - West was passed to the commander who was then instructed to leave a battalion in Bonny, suspend all operations there and move to Escravos with two battalions with a view to dislodging the rebels and clearing the riverine area of the Mid - West. These moves were carried out with the support of the Nigerian Navy and the merchant of the National Shipping Line. Another division was formed to support the LGO in the clearing of the Mid - West of the rebels. At this point, the formations were redesignated 1 Area Command became 1 Infantry Division, the newly division was designated 2 Infantry Division, and the LGO became the 3 Infantry Division. And with this the "police action" turned into a full scale military operation.

By the end of September 1969, a substantial part of the Mid - West had been cleared of the rebels. The commander of the 3 Infantry Division secured permission to change the designation of his formation to 3 Marine Commando because of the peculiarly riverine and creek operations already carried out by the division. This was the first time something in the resemblance of a Marine organization was tried in the history of the Nigerian Army. The division was not trained In amphibious operations. Infact the troops were made up of the soldiers of the Lagos Garrison Organization (LGO), the administrative establishment for the Federal capital. However, with some crash training, the division became the most feared and successful throughout the war.

ACM10: I totally disagree with you. There has been some engagement between forces under Adekunle command and Biafran forces as early as 1967. I alwayz have problem with most info from dawodu site. I call them "hack writers".
If you check what I said carefully, you will see that Adekunle initially attacked from Lagos, not Excravos. Indeed Adekunle siezed Excravos from Biafra. This puntures Dede's tale that attacks were launched from Excravos before the invasion of the Midwest.

The first operation from Excravos on Bonny was launched in 1968. The previous ones came from lagos.

Logic Mind: Beaf, I ask you again: Who said that midwest betrayed Biafra?
I think you are suffering from brain fag.

Logic Mind: By the Holy Grace of Amadioha, Biafra shall be free of northern oppressors, western betrayers and neighbourly saboteurs!
Iseee!
Logic Mind: Which one is tall tale? Southern minorities were the first group to fall. Nigerian soldiers turned them and used them effectively against their biafran homeland. The rest of biafra fell back and held out for 2 years. When the guns ceased in 1970, free biafrans understood that their brothers who were under enemy occupation may have had to do abominable things in the war in order to survive. It would have stayed at that, however these "minorities" started showing their true colours. Chasing away their fighting biafran brothers and confiscating their properties. How can you take your brother's house who went to fight for your freedom? Biafrans thus understood that the betrayal may not have been compelled but that these so called "brothers" willingly sabotaged their country's war efforts in other to occupy their brother's houses.
Well, abokis are enjoying your oil, so I hope you are at least enjoying those "abandoned" properties.
Next Biafran effort will be different.

Dede1: Dude, you are very funny indeed. Please stop messing with these backwater authors who knew nothing next to their noses. Owerri had fallen to Nigerian troops in 1968 talk less of Ubani (Boony).
No, sir. Your account is faulty.
Firstly, before the Midwest occupation, the Lagos Garrison Organization (LGO) carried out attacks from Lagos, not from Excravos.
In fact, Excravos had to be liberated from Biafra before the 3rd Marine Commando could use it. Bonny was attacked from Excravos on 26 July 1968.

As I said earlier, your sequence of dates and events are mixed up.
Politics › Re: Will Nigeria Break Up By 2015? by Beaf: 10:02pm On May 25, 2012
Dede1: Fact: LGO later 3rd division later 3MCDO launched an amphibious attack on Ubani (Bonny) in eastern region on or later than July 12, 1967 and on July 26, 1967 Bonny was captured.
Fact: Two weeks later on August 8, 1967, Biafra launched counterattack on Nigeria through Mid-western region .
26 July 1968 cool
That is when the assault on Bonny occurred.

The 3rd Marina Commando was formed AFTER Biafra had been driven back from Benin. It was formed from units of the Lagos Garrison and greatly bolstered by local recruitment. They went on to capture "Escravos, Burutu, Urhonigbe, Owa and Aladima. They captured Bomadi and Patani, Youngtown, Koko, Sapele, Ajagbodudu, Warri, Ughelli, Orerokpe, Umutu and Itagba" from Biafra: http://www.dawodu.com/omoigui32.htm

PhysicsQED: Dede1, if I accept that the Escravos group was teeming with tons of young men from every non-Igbo ethnic group in the Midwest save one or two groups that you didn't mention, what exactly is the conclusion I'm supposed to draw from that?

And since we seem to actually agree that Biafra was going to invade the Midwest, boats to Bonny or no boats to Bonny, what exactly is the significance of repeatedly bringing up boats to Bonny? It wasn't even a factor in what would have inevitbly happened.
Dede is deliberately mixing up dates and events to fit into a moribund argument.
It is safe to conclude that even he has seen the folly in the continued propagation of the wicked falsehood that the Midwest "betrayed" Biafra.
what date did the midwest division (3mco) begin to assemble at escravos?
what date did biafra march into midwest?
My broda, these are some of the difficult questions that will expose the truth of what really happened in the Midwest.
Biafra made a huge mistake with the Midwest incursion, some people are arguing that they had to get to Lagos. But did they, and for what?
These are strategic blunders that caused bad blood at the time.

Before these blunders, Biafra faced only highly useless troops who were mainly Hausa. These people attacked repeatedly through the Middle Belt and were made to feel sorry and silly repeatedly by Biafra. So the question is, what was the need to move through the Midwest? That energy should have been spent building alliances instead; I will repeat again that the Midwest had just angrily left the Western Region and was packed with unhappy minorities. That opportunity for a strong and independent Western neigbouring ally was not siezed.

Without the invasion of the Midwest and with better planning, Biafra would easily have won the war. There was no point opening a new front and for that matter, one with immensely strategic access to the sea which Biafra did not control.
Politics › Re: Will Nigeria Break Up By 2015? by Beaf: 9:23pm On May 25, 2012
Dede1: You sound funny talking about Biafra and minorities yet you forgot that minority ran the show in Biafra. From secretary of government, second in command, division commanders, brigade commanders, ambassadors, head of propaganda to commissioners were people from minority. I know one Urhobo Major who was a brigade commander in Biafra and was very close to Ojukwu. The major’s kids still live in Enugu as write this post. Please stop the crap about minority.

You have the same wrong notion about a mere permanent secretary in the ministry of trade and industry. If Biafra really wanted to do numbers on minorities in mid-western region, permanent secretary should not be the target.
There might or might not have been Urhobo's fighting for or against Biafra. That is beside the point which is that all stories of betrayal are false.
Talking about permanent secreteries etc, the established history is that they were targetted. Biafra made unecessary enemies in the Midwest; that turned out to be a very costly mistake and a means through which millions sadly lost their lives. If there had been no attack on the Midwest, there would never have been a strong federal front pushing from Warri province and Biafra would likely have won the war.

Dede1: I am of the view you are better than this disingenuous and despicable display on the thread. After the unsuccessful July 29, 1966 coup, due to the fact eastern region was no-go area for Gowon and northern soldiers, Nigeria (which include northern, western and mid-western regions) and Gowon decided to invade eastern region. In fact, with urging of David Ejoor, Gowon relocated LGO under Adekunle to Escravos to be bloated into a brigade or possible a division. It was at Escravos, Mid-western region that less than a battalion LGO was built into a brigade with young men from Yoruba, Edo, Itsekiri, Urhobo, Eshan and Isoko. Also, David Ejoor procured the sea-craft LGO needed to launch amphibious operation on Ubani (Bonny) in eastern region of July 16, 1967. By the time Bonny was captured on July 26, 1967, LGO has grown into a full division with designated name of 3rd division.

I do believe you are intelligent enough to discern that July is a month ahead of August. Since Nigeria, including Mid-western region, had been attacking eastern region from July 6, 1967, a person wonders what instigated you to deduce that Biafra punitively launched a military attack against a country such as Republic of Mid-western Region.

As matter of fact, Biafra would have launched military attack on Nigeria through mid-western region earlier than August 8, 1967 when it did. I guess in your neck of wood, they count the months of year from December to January that is reason you thought Biafra first initiated attack through mid-western region.
Oga Dede, nobody did anything in Escravos before the invasion of the Midwest.

It does not pay you and neither does it pay me to be liberal with dates.
Dates and sequence are extremely important in any recounting of historical events.

When you put sequence in, your account above becomes a distortion of history. The Midwest had nothing against Biafra until the invasion. In fact, as I mentioned earlier, Ejoor even sent the troops under his command to Nsukka, leaving the Midwest totally open, At that point or before, Biafra should have consulted with him.

I do not think some of my Igbo brothers who carry so much venom and hatred against minorities actually know the bridges being burnt. Thankfully, the leaders on both sides are well and truly above such tales.

Beaf: Now, here is a challenge to all liars and tellers of "betrayal" fairy tales.

3. Name the parties to the agreement.

5. Provide details of a single meeting where this mysterious agreement was reached.

Obiagu1: @ Beaf, it's now obvious that you are the one distorting the truth. You still have not provided the list of Midwestern top officialS executed by the troops heading to Lagos as you claimed. There's no amount of repetition that will change the truth.

The fact remains that a Biafran troop passed through the Midwest on their way to Lagos and meant no harm to Midwesterners. Any Midwestern top official killed was after the troop was stopped at Ore and war began fully in the Midwest with Midwesterners fighting with other Nigerians, thus became enemies of Biafra. That was how it happened and you can't alter the truth to justify the reason you joined Nigerian forces. You called it invasion but we call it passing through with no harm intended. You don't expect us to jump over you to Lagos, the seat of the government, without passing through your territory. If Abuja was the capital then, we'll pass through Igala/Idoma territory. Period!
I told you to go find out who a particular name was, but you obviously want to avoid the discomfort of the truth in its plain nak'edness.
Biafra bungled their war effort terribly in the Midwest and that is the reason for the heaps of unjust lies. They felt the minorities were too small to talk to. You don't just invade a mans territory, execute people, cart some off to Enugu, hunt for the governor dead or alive and naively think that bad blood would not be generated.

Dude, someone phucked up and felt it was easier to tell a lie (afterall, it was against minorities who barely had a voice). That lie became propaganda and has since been repeated from father to son. Regardless, it remains a lie.
Take time out to study what really transpired in the Midwest; look at it with completely fresh eys and you would conclude that the story you have grown up to believe is ridiculous and cannot have any stretch of truth in it.
Politics › Re: Will Nigeria Break Up By 2015? by Beaf: 7:51pm On May 25, 2012
Dede1: You have written like someone who is oblivious to military parlance. What would it have meant to Biafra if Ejoor and Ogbemudia were captured dead or alive when both never even commanded a platoon during the civil war? Mid-western region was neither a country nor considered the rich real estate in Nigeria during the time frame in discussion. During the time frame paramount to this discussion, eastern region was the only prime real estate in Nigeria. I must say that Mid-western region was relevant in this discussion because it provided source for men, material and launching pad for Nigeria. 3MCDO was erected in Escravos by men drawn from Yoruba, Edo, Itsekiri, Eshan, Urhobo and Ijo. In addition, Mid-western region was unavoidable landmark situated between Biafra and Nigeria and seated on the possible route which will enable Biafrans to dislodge Gowon and soldiers from northern region in Lagos.
3MCDO was only created after unecessary bad blood had been created against the Igbo's from their invasion of the Midwest. Up until the mistake in the Midwest, the civil war was considered and fought as a battle between the East and North. In fact, all prior attacks against Biafra had come through the Benue/Kogi route. In all these attacks, Biafra always gave the federal side a resounding beating. It can be confedently said that up till the invasion of the Midwest, Biafra had the upper hand. So why open a needless front through the Midwest and create unnecessary enmity? Why throw victory away?

I will tell you something else my dad told me. It was that the federal troops were extremely piss-poorly trained and trigger happy. They would advance and when they came across the smallest bush, would set up machine guns and cut it down with bullets, because they were afraid of what could be behind it.
Now, faced with such a useless mob, victory should have been easy for Biafra. Why did they need to create bad blood with Midwesterners who were merely neutral unlookers (being just minorities)? The turning point of the war came with the mass recruitment of Southern soldiers.
The "Edo, Itsekiri, Eshan, Urhobo and Ijo" you mentioned would never have joined in if they did not feel violated by the invasion of the Midwest.

At most, Biafra needed to keep the route through Agbor to Onitsha under lock and key and NO MORE.

Logic Mind: LIES LIES LIES

Midwesterners under the guise of nigeria invaded Biafra under the command of a Yoruba man, adekunle the non-moving things murderer, in July 1967. Biafra retaliated in August.
Once a liar, always a liar. Shiit always remains shiit, of value only to the scarab.

The Nigerian government launched a "police action" to retake the secessionist territory. The war began on 6 July 1967 when Nigerian Federal troops advanced in two columns into Biafra. The Nigerian army offensive was through the north of Biafra led by Colonel Shuwa and the local military units were formed as the 1st Infantry Division. The division was led mostly by northern officers. After facing unexpectedly fierce resistance and high casualties, the right-hand Nigerian column advanced on the town of Nsukka which fell on 14 July, while the left-hand column made for Garkem, which was captured on 12 July. At this stage of the war, the other regions of Nigeria (the West and Mid-West) still considered the war as a confrontation between the north (mainly Hausas) against the east (mainly Igbos)[citation needed]. But the Biafrans responded with an offensive of their own when, on 9 August, the Biafran forces moved west into the Mid-Western Nigerian region across the Niger river, passing through Benin City, until they were stopped at Ore (in present day Ondo State) just over the state boundary on 21 August, just 130 miles east of the Nigerian capital of Lagos. The Biafran attack was led by Lt. Col. Banjo, a Yoruba, with the Biafran rank of brigadier. The attack met little resistance and the Mid-West was easily taken over. This was due to the pre-secession arrangement that all soldiers should return to their regions to stop the spate of killings, in which Igbo soldiers had been major victims.[8][12] The Nigerian soldiers that were supposed to defend the Mid-West state were mostly Mid-West Igbo and while some were in touch with their eastern counterparts, others resisted. General Gowon responded by asking Colonel Murtala Mohammed (who later became head of state in 1975) to form another division (the 2nd Infantry Division) to expel the Biafrans from the Mid-West, as well as defend the West side and attack Biafra from the West as well. As Nigerian forces retook the Mid-West, the Biafran military administrator declared the Republic of Benin on 19 September.

OkparaIgbo: @ Onlytruth, Logic Mind, Dede1 and not sure of Beaf as he seems a little out of information on the subject but in any case he is welcomed to educate me here. You Guys seem to have a lot of Very interesting and Logical reasoning on the subject matter Biafra and the Republic of Benin. Cant we for the sake of our children and future Generations expose and analise those informations.? Also like I think only truth said we may need to drop those accusations and plan together for the future as that might be the only recourse.
By the way Guys my reasoning clearly tells me that if the Biafrans invaded the southwest like beaf alleges and forms from it a country in which it liberated from this monster called nigeria, then they must have meant well seeing that so far the awusa's and Yoruba have demonstrated that they are incapable and unworthy to be called brothers. I love your arguments brothers but I sometimes cant seize to see the anger amongst you. Ka Chukwu gozie Okwu a...Iseeee..!!
Lol! You evidently don't like the sound of the truth, bro.
I am quite sure OnlyTruth will tell you the same as I have, but in kinder tones and words to soothe ego's. OnlyTruth is an honest person.
The planning and execution of the Midwest invasion was bad and most likely, led to the failure of the Biafran effort.

Obiagu1: @ Beaf, we are still waiting for the information on top officials in Midwest that were killed during the war. Either admit it was a complete falsehood and stop making such claim or you provide the list of those top officials or source. Still waiting ...

Your source:
In a pattern of behavior that can only be described as self-destructive, the "liberation" force went molesting, Molesting, kidnapping, torturing, detaining and even killing local figures whose support they badly needed (14, 17). For example, Mr. J. O Adeola (Commissioner of Police), Mr. Olu Akpata (Permanent Secretary), Mr. Sam Umweni (of Radio Nigeria, Benin) and Mr. J Imoukhuede (Head of the civil service), were abducted from Benin and taken back to Biafra. They remained in prison (without trial) until the end of the war (17). In his memoirs, Ademoyega acknowledges: "The 18th battalion stationed in that port (Warri) was a ragged, ill-equipped and ill-controlled unit. Reports of their lawlessness in town had been scandalous." Such actions (among others) did not endear them to the people they came to liberate from "the north". Ademoyega summarized it thus: "Biafran entry into the Midwest was seen by the people, especially the non-Ibos of the State, as an act of foreign aggression."
If I name them, would you have a clue? Have you ever heard the name, Ibuje? Please find out and come back.

Banjo was aware of the atrocities Biafra had left behing them. In fact his reason for stopping at Ore was because he feared that a revenge mission would hit him from Benin, since he had failed to capture Ejoor and Ogbemudia dead or alive (as he was commanded to).

You have to ask questions about why Ejoor had moved his troops out to Nsukka province at the time Biafra invaded and why the defense of the Midwest was left in the hands of Okwechime, Igboba, Nwajei, Nwawo and Ochei (all Igbo's). To the casual observer, it would seem that the Midwest deliberately left the door open. Only to be rewarded with a haunt for Ejoor and Ogbemudia (dead or alive), as well as the execution and kidnap of the Midwests top govt functionaries and civil servants in what was a poorly planned coup.

Banjo: "In my opinion, the minimum condition for the continued successful prosecution of the war has ceased to exist…It is my view that, while we held the control of the Midwest we had a good political bargaining power within the context of Nigeria."
-Odogwu, Bernard: No place to hide: crises and conflicts inside Biafra. Fourth Dimension Publishers, 1985.

The man was simply petrified with what Biafra had left behind.
