Logic Mind: Abeg shut up there.
Which part of your country was invaded by Biafra? Do you have a country? This is the main Yoruba lie that they are telling themselves to justify their slavish attitude to abokis. Biafra did not invade you. We were just passing by.
Victor Banjo, a Yoruba "soldier", led a biafran land strike headed for Lagos. This Yoruba coward, that lied his way into biafran command, decided to do things Yoruba way when he had victory in his sight. Lagos was open like ashawo toto for am. All he had to do was thrust hard and direct, but the coward decided to stop, and started mistreating people. Ojukwu later shot his asz in Enugu.
So Mr Beaf, direct your anger to where it is due. Abokis are milking you dry, with the help of their yoruba slaves. Face them.
And tell your father to tell you the truth.

I am trying to educate and accommodate you because I understand your ignorance but do not ever again insult the memory of Biafra or that of her fallen heroes.
Dude phuck off and tell your lies to your washed up arse. You invaded us, executed people and turn round to accuse us of "betraying you!"
Ain't you a fool? Who thinks in that manner?

To make matters worse, you and bastar'ds like you turn so much unjustified hate on us minorities. For what? After invading us?
You are sick.

Phuck you and phuck people like you.

Republic of Benin (1967)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Not to be confused with the current Republic of Benin, contemporarily known as the Republic of Dahomey, or the Kingdom of Benin from the Benin City

The short-lived Republic of Benin, in Nigeria's coastal Bight of Benin, was named after its capital Benin City. It was known as Mid-Western state in Nigeria until August 1967 when it was occupied by Biafra as its forces advanced towards Lagos. Albert Nwazu Okonkwo, a Mid-Western Igbo medical officer, was installed by Emeka Odumegwu Ojukwu as Biafran Military Administrator of the territory (17 August 1967 - 19 September 1967). As Nigerian forces were to retake the Mid-West, the Republic of Benin was unilaterally declared at 07:00 on 19 September 1967. Okonkwo also ruled it as "Governor".

The republic lasted a little more than a day. On 20 September 1967, it was terminated as Nigerian forces recaptured the province. It was not recognised, not even by its "parent" country, Biafra, mainly because of the brevity of its existence. Most of the government officials, as well some Igbo civilians, followed Biafran troops across the Niger River.

I couldn't care less about any noise making senator "fighting the executive." Let him move the motion to cut his perks and wages as I said earlier, afterall it was they who moved motions to raise their wages in the first place.

Aside from moving the motion to cut his take home, he should also move a motion to absolutely divest the NASS of any powers to set levels for their take home.

After doing the above, he can go ahead to "fight the executive." But until then, he is just another of many hypocrites.
70% is too high. But if pure merit, a disproportionate # of these brainy students will be Yoruba.
JAMB scores do not bear this out.
Rather, it would tilt toward Delta, Anambra, Imo and Rivers; those are the real powerhouses of performance and statistics bears that claim out.

He's basically asking for a chance to fight the executive using the principles of separation of powers as designed by the creators of the democtratic system we copied.

I agree with him in principle, we cannot continue like this.
Fight the executive for what? We should be tired of these daft NASS members by now. When did they become holy people?
Nigeria is just a place where people make noise and create undue chaos. Fight the executive indeed! Let him come back after he has moved a motion to cut his salary and benefits as a senator.

The committee might be in place to inject federal character (which should be stoutly resisted) since it is an FG thing. It should go to strictly the best students.

Also, insentives should be given to the most inventive - the best performing students are not always the brainiest, indeed the brainiest students tend to be disinterested in school (since it is unchallenging) and to underperform.
A great example is Thomas Alva Edison - the wizard of Menlo Park; on one occasion an inspector visited his school, the inspector was so pleased with what he had seen and gushed with praise... Only for Thomas Edisons teacher to point out that it was ok for praise to go to every other child, but Thomas Alva Edison, whom she described as "somewhat addled."
Everywhere Thomas Edison went, people described him as mentally slow or having mental issues. To cut a long story short, Thomas Alva Edison became the greatest inventor of all time with over a thousand inventions to his name.

Jonathan inaugurates committee on scholarship for best brains

https://www.channelstv.com/home/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/Dr-Jo.jpg

President Goodluck Jonathan has inaugurated a committee to scout the nation’s tertiary institutions for the best 100 first-class students that will be given scholarships to further study abroad.

Inaugurating the Special Committee on Scholarship for Best Brains in Abuja, on Thursday, the president instructed the ten-man committee to completely eschew the quota system in the selection process and go for the best brains.

The committee is expected to select the best 100 first-class students in some specialized courses such as the sciences, engineering and economics from universities in the country and expose them to the best facilities in the world.

In a bid to encourage and enhance knowledge transfer, beneficiaries of the scholarship after their graduation, are expected to lecture for the first five years, in the nation’s institutions, after which they can go on to be on their own.

The President, who is a doctorate degree holder, condemned the dearth of academics in the nation’s tertiary institutions, where only 60 percent of lecturers are doctorate degree holders.

President Jonathan noted that such a situation must change if Nigeria is be transformed.

He charged the committee headed by the executive secretary of the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Julius Okojie, to shun quota system and work only on merit in the selection of the brains for the scholarship programme.

According to the President, for Nigeria to maintain its status as a leading African country, and for the transformation agenda of the government to succeed, the government must pay more attention to the development of human capacity.

To this end, he pledged a total commitment to changing the educational system, across all levels from primary to tertiary.

New Ambassadors

The President also on Thursday received the letters of credence of three new ambassadors to Nigeria.

The new envoys are Mr Tagelsir Mahgoub Ali of Sudan, Mr Paul William Lumbi of Zambia and Mr Antonio Da Graca Correia of Sao Tome and Principe.

President Jonathan welcomed the ambassadors to Nigeria and assured them that the government would work closely with them to improve and strengthen the already warm relations with their countries.

The new ambassadors expressed appreciation for the reception, and pledged to pursue mutually beneficial cooperation with Nigeria during their different tenures.

Jonathan orders expulsion of all Unqualified UNIABUJA students

“They must be students that we politicians pushed in and I told the Minister that they must set up a committee to send the political students back to us.

We cannot allow the Universities to be taken over by political students…”, that was the order of President Goodluck Jonathan to the Education minister, Professor Ruqqayatu el-Rufai, whilst they reviewed the running crisis in University of Abuja.

It was a rare moment of admission of the compromises the political class brings on the society. It is not only in the education sector.

Politicians of various standing and status, flaunting the powers and influence they wield on the system, often cause and even demand the compromise of the system for their own interest.

That what President Jonathan was referring to yesterday when he ordered that students who lacked basic qualifications for admission into the University of Abuja but got in through undue influence by politicians, be expelled from the institution. He blamed that category of students for the unrest on campuses.

The University authority has thus been ordered to carry out a thorough audit of the qualification of students and consequently expel all unqualified ones.

He said those who were smuggled into the university by politicians who peddle influence often became cultists and engaged in other anti-social activities as they are unable to meet academic standards and pressures.

Jonathan spoke at the Council Chambers of the Presidential Villa, Abuja, while swearing in a Minister, Alhaji Inuwa Abdulkadir from Sokoto State who may oversee the Sports Ministry which Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the Minister of Youths Development, has been overseeing after the former Minister, Alhaji Yusuf Sulaiman, resigned to contest for political office last year.

The President said he has already held a meeting with requisite stakeholders in the education sector and asked them to return such “political students” to those who smuggled them into the university in the first place.

“Only yesterday (Tuesday), we had a meeting with Minister of Education. We were looking into the situation at the University of Abuja because of their crisis.

The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission revealed that one thing about UNIABUJA’s case is that there are students there who do not even have the basic qualification to be admitted but they are there as undergraduates.

“And I said that those must be political students. They must be students that we politicians pushed in and I told the Minister that they must set up a committee to send the political students back to us.

We cannot allow the Universities to be taken over by political students who are the kind of students that create confusion, create all kinds of cults, and all kind of practices because definitely they cannot cope with the academic challenges. So to be relevant, they have to become cultists and then promote all kinds of behaviours that are anti-social so that they can to be relevant in the institution”, Jonathan stated.

Giving a charge of probity to the newly sworn in civil servants, President Jonathan said that the danger in putting wrong hands in place was that without a vibrant and effective civil service, no matter how good an office holder was, his policies will fail, adding that there were qualities like competence and loyalty which were needed in the civil service for it to be effective.

Others sworn in were the Chairperson and members of the Civil Service Commission whom he charged to ensure that less political influence was brought to bear in recruitments so that the most qualified people would man positions as a way of ensuring that good hands were put in positions for effective policy implementation.

The President regretted that most of them work at cross purposes, relying on their perceived axiom that soldier-come- soldier-go, but barracks remain, meaning that political appointees come and go while they remain which makes them not to approach their duties with enough commitment.

He said that he was sure given their resume, they were qualified and fit to handle their positions and should therefore use their experiences to correct the maladies in the system and make it effective and charged them to be committed to reversing the present ugly trend.

“We thank you for accepting to serve. We believe that you will work extra hard to bring back the glory of the service in conjunction with the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation.

Within this period, Nigerians who have one thing or the other to do with the Civil Service complained of one thing or the other. First the attitude to work, people do not go to work when they are supposed to, the quality of service, in some cases, loyalty to government and sometimes civil servants are even accused of frustrating political office holders deliberately.

“ It is my belief that you will work with the office of the Head of the civil service to make sure that you work to bring back the civil service to its glorious days. Of course, you have been part of it and you know what it used to be. You must work with Political office holders to move the country forward.

“No matter how pragmatic a Minister or President is, when the civil servants that are supposed to carry out government policies do not flow with the political office holders, the country will remain stagnant.

We believe in you and your willingness to achieve that objective and sanitize the system, most especially when you will employ, employ people without bias. During political dispensation, we hear too many stories about political influences about employment of people into government.
“So we believe that you are going to create the quality of service that will position the federal civil service for development so that as a nation, we can collectively develop our people”, he submitted.

Members of the Civil Service Commission sworn in yesterday were Mrs. Olatoyese Ayo (Oyo) – chairperson, while Alhaji Ibrahim Mohammed (Sokoto), Alhaji Gamba Buwai (Zamfara), Alhaji Yahaya Yusuf (Bauchi), Alhaji Mohhammed Hamidu Babanka (Taraba); and Alhaji Rafiu Babatunde Tinubu (Lagos) are members.

Speaking after the swearing in, Governor of Sokoto State, Aliyu Wamako agreed with the President that the greatest obstacle to development was the civil service and stressed the need for its immediate reformation and employment of qualified personnel to man them.

Logic Mind: Which one is tall tale? Southern minorities were the first group to fall. Nigerian soldiers turned them and used them effectively against their biafran homeland. The rest of biafra fell back and held out for 2 years. When the guns ceased in 1970, free biafrans understood that their brothers who were under enemy occupation may have had to do abominable things in the war in order to survive. It would have stayed at that, however these "minorities" started showing their true colours. Chasing away their fighting biafran brothers and confiscating their properties. How can you take your brother's house who went to fight for your freedom? Biafrans thus understood that the betrayal may not have been compelled but that these so called "brothers" willingly sabotaged their country's war efforts in other to occupy their brother's houses.
Well, abokis are enjoying your oil, so I hope you are at least enjoying those "abandoned" properties.
Next Biafran effort will be different.
I'm tired of hearing this foolish lie. My part of the country was invaded by Biafra, who carried out several executions, occupied the place and declared us an independent "Republic of Benin" without as much as asking us a single question.
Next, we were invaded by the federal troops who did pretty much what Biafra did.

Phuck anybody who tells me stup!d lies of how minorities betrayed Biafra. Did Biafra ever make us part of their plans? Did they not just invade us one bright morning without provocation? I wonder where people get these id!otic fairy tales of "betrayal" from?
I'm waiting for any senile fart to tell me that Biafra did not invade the Midwest. In fact, as I have said several times on NL, my own father along with other top Midwesterners was to have been shot by Biafra, but he was saved by his driver (maybe una for no know Beaf today embarassed).

Wallie: This is my belief based on my interaction on Nairaland:

1. Nigerians in general, especially those posting on this forum, are quick to curse you out or be disrespectful towards you when they do not agree with you. I think the anonymity of the web adds to it because people that will call you “sir” in person will call you “stupid” even when you hold a concurring view! I don’t like how Beaf, a person supposedly representing GEJ’s government, gets tangled up in all the cursing and name calling but I completely understand even if I do not agree with his point of view at times. People will test your civility and you’ll be forced to respond - even I do but I only represent me.:-) I would suggest Beaf should learn to ignore some posts.

2. Even with Yoruba’s culture of respect towards elders, Yorubas are more likely to voice their displeasure towards anybody even if the person is from the same tribe. In general, Yorubas will only respect you if you deserve to be respected and that includes members of their family.

3. Most of the insult towards GEJ is out of displeasure/frustration with his administration and not tribalism. If it were tribalism, people (Yorubas, Igbos, and Hausas) would not have voted for him.

4. We don’t all have to agree and that’s the beauty of democracy but try not to lose the message you’re trying to convey in your insults! You might be making a very important point but people might not get past the insult to see the merits of your arguments.

5. Lastly, we all share a common enemy - they look like us and also speak the same dialect as us! They are the ones responsible for the ongoing decay in Nigeria that directly or indirectly affects us and they are Yorubas, Igbos, Hausas, Ijaws, Tivs etc. The fact that they're from your tribe or share the same religion as you should be completely irrelevant!
Dude, your post is truthful and packed with intelligence and wisdom. However, I refuse to agree with your roping Yoruba's into the insult game. Secondly, I made several posts for people to stop calling Yar Adua horrible names.

We all know what your fuel is. Bigotry.

fork adict: To prove that you don't have a life. You are unarguably, the most despised and disliked nairalander. As such, on most political posts, people hurl insults at you which in my opinion is only normal given your unimaginable level of stooooopidity. But then you have more than enough time to reply everyone. and on every post. Do you know how many man hours we are talking about here?

Like i said on some other post, i ALWAYS feel like throwing up on your face anytime you show up on any thread.
Yet, almost daily, I get friend requests? Those who insult me because they cannot cope with my intellectual output are the same gutter bred, toilet creature, ACN luv'n, bigoted NURTW types that insult GEJ. Remind you of you? Lol! grin
I think the truth really hurt you, so here it is again:

Beaf: Don't be jealous, bro. Fhemmy is not like you, he is well brought up, well mannered and always balanced.
Anyways, what can be expected of person who chooses an id like "fork adict?"

Comedy!

Fashola is working hard to spoil his good name. First doctors, now this?
I recall people being exercised, cos a man that drove out of a side street at fierce speed and willfully rammed his car into GEJ's convoy was charged to court (even though he is the President, compared to a mere governor).

He was arraigned Wednesday before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, on a five-count charge of dangerous and reckless driving without regard to other road users and causing obstruction to the Lagos State governor’s convoy.
Absolute bullshiit.

I think we should start a thread that is titled, "Please Insult GEJ Wella! Show your love for ACN! Indicate state of origin."

Such a thread would yield exceedingly interesting results indeed! grin grin grin grin
