Dede1: I really do not know where you pull this fallacious talk of “betrayal”. Betrayal exists if there were pre-agreed arrangement to act and suddenly one party backs away at last hour. In case of Nigeria/Biafra civil war, people were presented with an opportunity to choose side and many people did. However in choosing side, the people created a situation where we have mortal enemies within Nigeria.

I have decided to live with the fact there are people I consider enemy in the contest of Nigeria and there is no amount of name calling or attempts to sit history on its head will change such situation. We fought a war and tried very hard to annihilate each other. It will be very naïve to think history will not repeat itself and this time around there could be wiser actors than the previous war.

I have resolutely stated that in any event of disintegration of Nigeria, my preference is to have Republic of Igbo land. Seriously, I do not give a fig if the pending dissolution of Nigeria is hellishly bloody. I am not given to live the life of pretence and disintegrated Nigeria is all cherish for now.
You have ended up moving your position to a more forthright stance. That is very good.

The bolded is the most important part of your post (the rest is just bluster). Everyone had a choice where to belong, some went with the FG, others went with Biafra. The Midwest took no side; IMHO, Biafra took that to mean we were looking to cease the opportunity to strike for freedom (lilely so), invaded us; but instead of making good use of a natural situation (we had just stormed out of the Western Region, feeling cheated), spread tears and blood in a few short days. Perhaps the lines of command or were weak or planning was poor; whatever it was, a mistake of gargantuan proportions was the result.

Let history be a manual for the future.

Sports › Re: How The Late Rashidi Yekini Blew N60 Million In 60 Days by Beaf: 4:29pm On May 25, 2012
She said when their efforts to take Yekini to a hospital in Oyo State failed, they sought the assistance of the then Oyo State Police Commissioner, Adisa Bolanta.

According to her, Bolanta ordered that Yekini be brought to him.

Her words: "When Yekini was brought before the CP, the football star said he was alright and even gave some money to some of the police officers present. The CP was said to have been surprised and did not know what next to do or how to assist them since Yekini appeared to be alright.
Winsh!
When claim a loved one is ill, taking them to the police is a very strange action indeed.

"After that we got information that Yekini went to the bank and withdraw some large sums of money, gave out some to people and spread the rest onto the air.

"When we took him to the hospital, about four weeks ago not only was he mentally unstable, he was also sick.

"We did not have money to treat him. So, we went to the bank where he had an account but unfortunately the bank said he had no more money in his account. So, we took him to the hospital and we were treating him until he died."
Ole!
The woman should be arrested.

He said: “Some people betrayed him. That was why he stopped getting close to people. They duped him of very huge amount of money. That was what affected Rashidi. Rashidi was okay mentally. He drove himself and did everything well. Every month, he gave to widows and the needy. He was generous. He was not insane.”
The late Yekini died at Al-Amin, a private hospital at Awotan, a suburb of Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on May 4.
He was taken to the hospital unconscious at 2:15 pm by some men, according to the Managing Director of the hospital, Dr Gbenga Ogunsina. He died 10 minutes later and was taken to his Ira, Kwara State home that night. His body was moved from the hospital by 11:00 pm and buried the following day.
Otan ni! The police had better get very interested in this murder. angry

It is very strange that a story about Azazi outing the EFCC boss as corrupt should be coming through the press. It makes the whole thing doubtful until word is heard from authoritative sources.
Azazi is a powerful straight talker that does not need to leak stories to the press.

Seun: We use MySQL for the social graph and it works just fine. Twitter does the same, and so does Quora. True story.
This is a pretty informative overview of Quora's architecture (but they do not run graphical data in the real sense):
http://www.quora.com/Quora-Infrastructure/Why-does-Quora-use-MySQL-as-the-data-store-instead-of-NoSQLs-such-as-Cassandra-MongoDB-CouchDB-etc

Twitter on the other hand is different, they moved away from MySql due to scalability issues. They now run on a mix of nosql data stores:

Twitter has also developed their own inhouse graph database (FlockDb - you might want to check it out, its Apache licensed):

Dede1: There was nothing called Mid-west war during the civil war. Biafran troops attacked Nigerian territory which happened to named mid-western region. It is mark of irredeemable irresponsibility for anybody to make a wild unsubstantiated allegation of atrocity against anybody. It is a shame on any fool who thinks it right vomit allegation without a string of truth that can stand scrutiny of curious minds. Biafran forces were not bunch of unit less marauders who pillaged countryside. They were regimented unit and with insignia on the shoulders depicting battalion and brigade or even division. So it is blatant falsehood for anybody capable of directing foods to his or her mouth instead of the nose to spew crap of atrocity with stating the name of commander, battalion or brigade.
We are getting somewhere at last!
It is really strange that anybody would go about lying that Biafra was "betrayed" by territory which they attacked. Don't you think?
Believe the rest of your bedside stories, sir. But on the day anybody wakes up to tell lies about "betrayal" from the Midwest who were Biafra's unfortunate victims, I'll be right here to pop common sense and truth into their sordid minds and pop out their left eye with logical left hooks and intellectually wicked uppercuts.
Can my Igbo brothers say the following: "If indeed these summary killings took place, then we apologize for it" Shikena.

Its time to let bygones be bygones, the civil war was not an o.rgy, attended by the most beautiful African women who were volumptuous and were ready to roll. It was a doggone war, for crying out loudly! During wars, people get killed, either summarily as alleged by Beaf or in other ways.

I will remind those who are sensible, to note that the next civil war in Nigeria will render the Rwandan condition child's play. Lets bury the hatchet and move this country forward.

BTW where is Sam Ikenna, I'd like to hear from that pastor in a thread like this?
For me, bygones are bygones and I hold nothing against any ethnic group. In fact I've been accused enough times of being "ibo" by several twerps on NL.
What I cannot stand and will never allow, is for anybody to tell hateful lies and play the victim as far as the Midwest war was concerned, whereas the Midwesterners were the victims.

After the Biafran atrocities and escaping execution, my dad also had to run when federal troops came into town; he spent the rest of the war in the village. Luckily the Biafran occupation did not last long. It was an ugly period in the Midwest when life was cheap, my father tells stories of FG troops driving their landrovers over dead bodies with the sound of heads popping under their wheels.
Beaf, please note that many of us lost relatives on both sides, so we have an interest in knowing the truth about events of the civil war. It is not sufficient to use the contents of 1 website and no other source to support your claims and thereby call people with differing views liars and cowards.

It would be helpful to some of the younger kids who are reading these posts and others if you can find more than a single source to support your claims. For all we know, the authors of the article on dawodu.net could be the ones who are hate filled and are liars.

It behooves you to do the intellectual exercise of providing additional corroboration for your story.
Dude, anyone can help themselves to the diverse sources of information quoted in the article from which the excerpt I have repeatedly posted was sourced.

hundreds of Midwesterners were summarily shot by regular and militia units which had already blazed a 'scorched-earth' trail of terror through Benin-West division (14)
For example, the bit above was cited from here:
Ogbemudia, S. O.: Years of challenge. Heinemann Educational Books, 1991.

Also, some of the guys mentioned below are around to be interviewed:
In a pattern of behavior that can only be described as self-destructive, the "liberation" force went molesting, raping, kidnapping, torturing, detaining and even killing local figures whose support they badly needed (14, 17). For example, Mr. J. O Adeola (Commissioner of Police), Mr. Olu Akpata (Permanent Secretary), Mr. Sam Umweni (of Radio Nigeria, Benin) and Mr. J Imoukhuede (Head of the civil service), were abducted from Benin and taken back to Biafra. They remained in prison (without trial) until the end of the war (17). In his memoirs, Ademoyega acknowledges: "The 18th battalion stationed in that port (Warri) was a ragged, ill-equipped and ill-controlled unit. Reports of their lawlessness in town had been scandalous." Such actions (among others) did not endear them to the people they came to liberate from "the north". Ademoyega summarized it thus: "Biafran entry into the Midwest was seen by the people, especially the non-Ibos of the State, as an act of foreign aggression." (9)

The decision to occupy and then terrorize a proud and ancient cultural region should not have been made so lightly (18).

In addition to the scourge and humiliation of the occupation itself, fleeing Biafran soldiers carried out all kinds of unspeakable acts of brutality against the local population (17, 18 ). At the Urhonigbe Rubber Plantation, for example, hundreds of Midwesterners were summarily shot by regular and militia units which had already blazed a 'scorched-earth' trail of terror through Benin-West division (14).

Show us proofs, not quotes.
If you are certain of your assertions, start a commission, set up an enquiry for truth. Do something or are you waiting for us to do your duties for you again?
Keep living in your tiny World, bro. It is your self-made prison.
I am very happy to have exposed your lies about "betrayal" today, I am also glad that many other Midwesterners have come out to tell their own stories of the atrocities (some personal too).
Above all, I am happy to have exposed you as a liar, bully and coward who would dump on the victim, because they seem like a small, easy target.

Dede1: This is absolute nonsensical conjecture by Nowa Omoigiui. I am a member of the group named NNWDC which took hack writer in Nowa to task by quarrying him to provide an iota of proof either by naming the commander or battalion or brigade that committed said atrocity at the plantain plantation. Nowa was unable as church rat to proffer any clue of Biafrans who committed such act. It was funny Nowa blamed the lack of evidence to the moronic claims on Nigerian’s inability to gather intelligence during the war. It was not surprise to us because if the British did not provide such intelligent gathering capability, Nigeria was dead as a road kill.
When Biafra accused Nigeria of atrocities committed as in the cases of Asaba and Ogba Egbama, Biafra did not only provide the brigade or battalion involved but also the commanding officers of the uints.

At the point of execution, one of them shouted, “I am a Ghanaian, I am a Ghanaian”. But Aboh people pointed at another one who was looking bemused and dumbfounded and told Col Achuzia that the man was not one of the notorious men. He was accordingly released and the remaining six executed publicly by firing squad. They had enslaved the Community, and abducted wives and young under-aged single females. They looted the people’s property and lived like kings to the detriment of the assignment given them in the war front.
