They are private sector people in charge of people's life savings and net worth, who are mismanaging it. The government has been required to save them so can sack whom the Bleep they please.

UK did the same with Northern Rock, does that mean UK is in trouble?

The all singing, all dancing bandwagon of ________ quickly jumping at the slightest opportunity to say Nigeria is doomed.
Maybe you can decieve those who aren't aware and any sort of foul language you can lay your hands on. Tell me one manager or director that was sacked in any bank in the UK. Just one, I'm begging!

The Chief Executive Officer of Oceanic Bank, Chief Mrs. Cecilia Ibru OFR, has condemned the action of the Central Bank of Nigeria in sacking the management of Oceanic Bank Plc.

Making a case for Oceanic Bank International Plc she said that the Bank, in their 2008 accounts, has an asset base plus contingency liabilities of 1.6 trillion naira, an asset base of 1.246 trillion naira, a deposit base of 835 million naira, shareholder funds of 217 billion naira, and about 118 billion naira in earnings. According to her, all these figures were approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria in the recently approved 2008 accounts.

She further said the Executive Management was not presented with any bank examiners report nor an opportunity to defend itself, and the action is viewed as a violation of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the rule of law of the Federal Government.

Finally, she appeals to all customers, shareholders, staff and other stakeholders to remain calm as we look towards a speedy resolution of this matter.
Exactly! What Sanusi has done is unheard off the World over. Can you imagine? People start their own companies with their own sweat and govt can come and sack them? Damn!

They are not private, they are publicly trade companies. Even in other countries were the banks are private, they must report and are under the control of the country's Central Bank because, banks are important institutions to a country's economy and can pose systematic risk to the economy of a country.

Do you think all the U.S or U.K banks that received money wanted it? The central bank( federal reserve)  injected the money because they are banks and they are important to its economy.

The money the CBN injected is Tier 2, meaning the banks do not have to use it, it just there to shore up capital. It is totally different from government buying the shares of the company. How is it theft? They did not buy shares in the bank.
The fact that they are registered on the stockmarket doesn't move them out of the private sector. They are private sector; the public sector is made up off govt parastatals which those banks aren't.

Politics › Re: Does Sanusi Have A Hidden Agenda?unanswered Questions About Bank Mds’ Removal by Beaf: 12:51am On Aug 15, 2009
Isn't this theft?
How can govt sack people in the private sector and then inject money which they didn't ask for? Are they being forcefully bought on behalf of a shady group?

Nigeria is in trouble.
Politics › Re: Why The Super 5 Were Sacked by Beaf: 12:39am On Aug 15, 2009
It must be against the law for govt to sack people in the private sector. Can't they take them to court if there is evidence of corruption? Some of these people own the banks eg Ibru. I'm shocked!

Obama is black like us and is tired of the rubbish coming out of Africa. We are going to witness the might of the US if anyone thinks there's a counter to Obama sending Hilary to do what she did. All the financial institutions of the world will sit up when America taps them up. All major world instituitions are headquartered in the US.
Someone said we should shift our trade to China instead. Not very wise. . . Nigeria has the best crude and the US fights wars for its energy security.

It's because of actions similiar to  that of these inventors that countries have been lifted from poverty to greatness, from nothing to economic and military powers. Look at the lives of great inventors and revolutionaries and you will see that they faced fools like THOR and the rest. But they prevailed lifted millions of people from nothing.

On the APC's design itself, I totally have to commend these Nigerian inventors. Anyone that follows the trends in the current battlefield faced by the US and the UK in Afghanistan and Iraq will see that improvised explosive devices (IEDs) accounts for most of the deaths of US, British and Canadian servicemen, along with a host of other countries that serve in both countries. The same problem is also being faced by the Pakistani military as they battle the Taliban on their own turf in the tribal lands of Pakistan. This Nigerian design takes all this into consideration. It is definitely not as sophisticated as the Isreali Wolf, the Buffalo MRAP designed by US, or the RG-31 Nyala (just to name a few), but it is definitely a step in the right direction. And we can all see that the APC has a retractable survellance system, making it extremely usefull as both and observation platform and a Command-&-Control Vehicle that can be used in both law enforcement and military situations. All we have to do is encourage and support these guys, refine the design, and I'm sure it will be ready for Police Force and military, and also exports to other countries, thus creating an additional source of income for the nation.

As for Thor, what have you invented? And what have you contributed to your nation? Or are you there in  the UK were you get to do your 6-5pm job washing plates and toilets?
Thank you. The first thing I noticed was the v shape of the bottom of the vehicle. For those who don't know, it is to deflect the force of explosions outward to protect the vehicle.

Some people have also condemned the wheels, but we don't know if they can continue running even when compromised.

wirinet:
Lucabrasi, i really feel you. You are the average nigerian who is super patriotic beyond reason. But the reality on the ground contradicts your patriotism, so let me bring you back to realism.

1. Your beloved country is so backwards technologically, that we have industrial chemistry graduates that cannot make detergent or soap, we have electrical electronics graduates that cannot use Logic gates and cannot repair ordinary TVs not to talk of LCD TVs or plasma TVs. We have mechanical engineering graduates that cannot make or repair ordinary "i better pass my neighbour generators" not to talk of industrial machines. And you talk of making a rocket.

2. Our universities are just certificate awarding institutions as NO RESEARCH takes place in them, i was in OAU IFE for 7 yrs and did not hear of any breakthrough research in that time and then the education standard was better. The Labs are empty with the equipments outdated. Also the lecturers are teaching outdated technology. And LASU is not known to be a technologically inclined institution.

3. There are virtually no funds allocated to research in our universities, and the general allocation is just enough to pay salaries of staff and just enough for the VC to steal. The lecturers augment their salaries by selling handouts ( which every student must buy if they want to pass.

So i thing there are more important things to make than rockets, our universities should make transformers, design and make mini refineries, make forged metals and metal sheets and plates, make improved seedlings and a host of other badly needed technology. We do not need to send a man to mars.
No! Mechanical engineers have no business repairing generators. Engineers analyse, design and build. Technicians on the other hand use, fine-tune, maintain and repair finished engineering products.

I agree with the rest of your post, but we do need people who can understand rocketry. Rockets are also used to send satellites into space; for weather prediction, population estimation, archaeology, mineral prospecting, communications etc etc

I cleared this matter of SW before. I have always spoken against some of the sins of the OPC (and will continue to do so); only a fool equates OPC with the all the people of the SW, just as only a fool equates MEND with all the people of the South South.

if you're from the south south or midwest stop trying to pull the wool over people's eyes by pretending you're making a distinction.
I find the ignorance here to be breath taking. There is only a small minority of Igbo's in the South South. MidWest seized to exist long ago.

I partly agree with you.

But you as well sound tribalisctic, considering Northerners being mainly Hausa and you probably Yoruba or Ibo.
I'm neither Yoruba nor Igbo. In fact, if you had read through the whole thread; you would have come across the post of a misguided Yoruba man mistaking one of my posts for being anti-Yoruba.

I am one of those Nigerians who is lucky to have witnessed life in North, South, East and West. There are very few states I have not either visited, lived or schooled in. I know for sure that there are several ethnic groups in the North, you will never find me using terms like "aboki" or "awusa". Nevertheless, there is the same derogatory attitude to education between all Northern states and it is a dangerous thing.
