The Americans never wanted to meet anybody. Hilary chose her own protocol and came with a list of politicians and traditional rulers she wanted to see. Invitations to representatives of the oligarchy were turned down. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2009/08/11/clinton-nigerians-frown-at-us-embassys-breach-of-protocol/comment-page-1/ |

She is conveying the US interests in the strength of our democracy, high level of corruption and the details of the FG's amnesty in the ND. The issue of religious freedom has also been mentioned in some quarters. It promises to be a series of gloves off meetings. No doubt, most of it will be closed door, but enough should seep through the cracks for us to be able to draw conclusions. There will be much to discuss. The US has been punishing Nigeria internationally since Yar Adua assumed office. Our relevance on the World stage and even in Africa has been severely downplayed. There have been several US studies that have painted a less than positive picture of the political and security climate in Nigeria. Several reports hint at the US wanting more concrete measures than an empty amnesty in the ND. This is because, the US is getting at least partly blamed for the crisis in some quarters. Indeed, one report says that 80% of Nigerian oil proceeds goes to just 1% of the population (land ownership ratios in apartheid South Africa were never that discriminatotory). The Boko Haram saga, the indiscrimate killing by the military and police, as well as the barbaric execution of the cults leader was another thing that horrified the US and the wider World. Clinton is going to discuss this under the guise of religious and other civil freedoms. There is also the ever present under-current of US alarm at the possibility of alqaeda infitrating Nigeria because of poverty, despondence and misuse of religion. Methinks Nigeria is going to get a lecture. How embarrassing! |
Ibime:@Ibime You are right. In Nigeria there isn't a more natural alliance than Igbo/ND. Some discussions may get heated, but ultimately we know the Igbo's are our allies. Onlytruth has been going around making very reckless statements which no self respecting ND person would counternance in the slightest (afterall, we no de carry last). Understandably, any discussion to do with the civil war or any other liberation struggle is traumatic, especially to the Igbo. The loss of livelihoods and a million souls (brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, lovers or neighbours) cannot be imagined. Sometimes in our zeal, we forget that we might be speaking to people who suffered unquantifiable losses; in the same vein guys like Onlytruth need to tone down a bit to get across. ==sends vitual hugs and handshakes== ![]() |
[quote author=Abu-Maryam link=topic=307986.msg4336865#msg4336865 date=1250029801]@ NL Surprise will never end. Nchara:Did you check again before you posted that? Did you notice the edit? ![]() |
bawomolo: ![]() Damn! Na so ya bele be? Anyway, you can see Gen JTF's wife is expecting him to deliver soon! Its a modern World! |
nex: By the way, our list is still open. Since no one can think of anything done by the slave masters in Abuja, Abia and Adamawa states, we're now on Akwa Ibom. Please somebody tell us a single thing they did there. Don't be shy, nothing is too smallYou still de worry with some of these guys and their cadaver thinking? |
Nchara:Oops! I was caught between using ND and South South states. Ondo is an ND state. Thanks. |
bawomolo:No be kwe kwe officers de command kwe kwe enlisted soldiers? Compare JTF General (left) to the two US Generals below.
|
Nchara:Exactly, thats why I didn't bother to find any stuff on them. Why is Ondo in bold? Its relevant only to the original thread I posted that list to (I needed to highlight ND states). "But can you now compare the total population of each of those states to the % literate?" This list is the closest I could get for the base literacy per state that you asked for. I don't know, but it would seem that literacy in a Western sense would have been too much of an embarrassment for the Internet. The state of our statistics is incredibly poor, whether this is deliberate or not is another matter. You have to do the math for that based on things like JAMB admission rates per state per population. I tend to prefer JAMB figures were they can gleaned from the dross. |

Oligarchy. Thats where the oil money goes. |
sjeezy8:Literacy has nothing to do with poverty? Looking at the list for base litteracy rates per state, Ebonyi is last by a margin. I'm quite sure that Ebonyi's low rating will translate to poverty and deprivation. If anyone looks at the figures and I'm wrong, then I will make a total apology; for the meantime, I predict Ebonyi to be the poorest Southern state or at least be in the bottom three. The North is worse and their literacy pattern (Western) reflects this. |
Nchara:That is a different kettle of fish, but I provided this list elsewhere; you can see Edo vs Imo or any other southern state. I really don't see the need for this digression though; ain't we talking about why poverty is a Northerner? These are literacy rates (in any language, including Yoruba) for Southern Nigeria. In English, the figures would be dramatically different. As you can see, ND does quite well. Nobody is begging ND people to be educated, thank you.http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/cwiq/2006/survey0/outputInformation/cwiqreports.html |
Onlytruth:O shut up! You are just a comical and deluded idiot speaking for yourself. The average Igbo person is much more intelligent, mature and wiser than you ever will be. I have never heard any Igbo (outside of your mad self) that either says they want to wipe out the Niger Delta or utter anything close to your messianic claims above. Keep up your swastika sales. Psycho. |
It was a hatred that I developed from Ibadan where I did my NYSC in 2005/2006 due to percieved injustices done to me by the pople. The impression they gave me was a people who don't care about any other person; a people who take tribalism to the peak; a people who never mind their businesses but gossip at the slightest opportunity; a people ,You are using heavy words so cut out the sentimentalist crap. What happened to you in Ibadan and how does Ibadan represent Yorubaland. |
Fhemmmy:I read a US commentary on Nigerias oil production yesterday. According to the article 80% of our oil money goes to just 1% of the population I can hazard an easy guess that 99% of that 1% are part of the Northern oligarchy. Yet their people are as poor and disease ridden as shit. |
It is difficult to get Nigerian statistics Online without having to do your own number crunching, but here's one source. To take care of these discrepancies especially in admission for high density education areas (Oyo, Lagos, Edo, Delta, Imo, Akwa-Ibom, Cross-Rivers, Anambra States) and the low density education areas (Kaduna, Sokoto, Borno, Adamawa, Kano, Niger, Zamfara states), quota system (catchment area) has to be applied.http://transcampus.org/JORINDV6Jun2008/JournalsV6NO1June200823.html |
Tompolo is a highly-organised person from what was seen at Camp 5 and his Oporoza home showed he is a man of taste. Virtually every room in the apartment, which some sources said is the community's guest house is luxuriously furnished. The house has between 17-20 rooms with three sitting rooms.http://allafrica.com/stories/200905290490.html |
tensor777:Fail! JTF eyes saw something in those oily creeks that made govt do an about turn to offer bribery by "amnesty". Power pass power. The army is currently retiring 1000 officers; these guys are currently throwing parties, knowing they never have to visit the "hell" creeks. |
A highly placed government source said that the comment by Hillary Clinton can hardly be faulted, saying that foreigners know more about Nigeria than Nigerians know about their country. This is stark reality. The majority of us are like pigs that love to wallow in mud, even the little we know about our country always has some ethnic colouring. I read commentary on a US study of oil production in Nigeria; did you know that 80% of the oil money goes to just 1% of the population |
nex: Logic = zero I pity this country; its funny, but people with such brainless arguments are the ones that make it to the top in Nigerian politics. Because our politicians are a bunch of brainless thieves. |
What is there left for the army to do? IBB in his insecurity, chopped it up like a knife through butter. Obj in his wisdom decimated what was left. They are a dangerously misguided bunch who have learnt to call everyday folk "bloody civilians"; they feel that their guns give them some sort of superiority, even if they are unschooled. This is a group of armed citizens that have perfected the art of brutalising the populace including women. In my opinion, the army needs to be totally scrapped and rebuilt afresh from the ground up. |
Onlytruth:Don't waste your sweat. As is obvious, ND guys are already heated up enough to stop your deluded 4th Reich right dead before it is born. ![]() In the meantime, you can crank up swastika sales, nothing will stop us from gaining. |
@Afam Sorry bro, Imo never comot 9ja . I've edited the list. |
JomoGbomo2:Nothing personal, ignorance is annoying. I don't buy your argument. Percentages are the right thing to use. Regardless of where you claim to come from, theres still a lot of ignorance displayed on your part. The figures are from official Nigerian statistics. You can collate them yourself from here http://www.nigerianstat.gov.ng/cwiq/2006/survey0/outputInformation/cwiqreports.html |
Funny guy. |
JomoGbomo2:That is insulting. These are literacy rates (in any language, including Yoruba) for Southern Nigeria. In English, the figures would be dramatically different. But amnesty (or govt bribe) seems doomed to fail. MEND seems to be playing mind games with the govt, so far only dane guns, machetes and other rubbish have been turned in. Even Henry Okah, who has long been considered a MEND leader and was released from prison last month in what seemed a test run of the amnesty deal, denied that the effort would work. “How many weapons have been recovered?” Mr. Okah said in a telephone interview. “What makes it a success? Where are the weapons? I think it’s all just a joke.”http://www.nytimes.com/2009/08/11/world/africa/11nigeria.html |
