A quick question I want to ask and know hearts of peeps.

I have a badass programmer pal. Full stack engineer. Recently did a job for someone, and made some real good cash. Like up to $120,000. The money came from building software for 3 microfinance banks in the country.
He earns over 450,000 Naira as salary here in Nigeria as well. We got talking yesterday and he's telling me he cannot stay in Nigeria, that he's resigning immediately after lock down for airports are over.

His argument is 450,000 Nigerian Naira equals
1,162.97 United States Dollar, wheras in the US / Canada for instance, the salary is way higher.

Question is what do you think ?

A contract position. Being a banker even as a full time staff isn't funny. As a full staff the money to easily pay bills is there, but you are constantly very busy, very stressed with high job uncertainty. - it's not an interesting life at all.
If one will choose banking one must think of these and be confortable choosing of all that.

@OP: There is nothing for you in the oil sector right now. the most viable self employing skills now are in IT- programming, graphics design, animation, social media content manager, data analytics. Then also photography, shoe making, fashion design, interior decoration, furniture making, poultry, fish production.
Programming is really good if you can handle the thinking involved and also the time commitment it demands.
But most important factor is viability where you are and your interest. Whatever it is you must be ready to learn well and produce quality work.

You need money from abroad.
I'll give one example for you to see how things are- oando bought conocophilips entire assets for $1.6B with about half of the money coming from overseas. 5 nigerian banks could only give a loan total of $0.4B. They also raised money from JSE. Asset of about N300B(@ N180) then was a struggle to finance locally- just imagine d impossibility of N50T every year.

Less than $32M in reserves. Oil $ has more than halved. They are just managing us. But we need those foreign investors - FDI not FPI. Locally we don't have the money for adequate investment. If you check online you 'll see that Nigeria needs more than 10trillion naira per year for adequate infrastructure devt alone. So we need FDIs but you need good policies , Good security, rule of law to attract them & keep them

Whatever the case just note your 16M for studies in UK has zero ROI. What job will you get then that you can't get now? I'd rather you obtain the money and just even buy Treasury bills with it. And that's about 2M per annum income for u dude. Now I'm even sure you ve not considered that the amt will be much more than that because the pound naira rate will become more expensive due to oil price crash.

Hello everyone - I'm not quite sure whether this is the right section to post this.

Anyways, I currently hold a Master's degree and I also recently gained admission into a PhD program in a UK university but with no funding from the school and the estimated total cost of the tuition and living expenses amount to about #16 million for the 3 years.

So, I decided to come seek the opinion of folks here with better experience if it really worth spending this amount in the long run or should I rather invest this amount?

But i felt i should comment because the idea of public sch is a v. bad one. This is because the quality of education in public sch is lower than good private schs. What i d advise is take them to primary schs that are not so high brow but have v good educational standard, infact esp when when they are starting sec schs. Don't take them to Atlantic hall, BIS, take them to ISL, QC-schools that are good In waec rankings but not so cozy. Also, hence forth let them be washing their clothes, plates at home. They should clean up their rooms themselves not the maid, even do things like cleaning the cabinet. Infact by the time the first born is like 13, you shouldn't have an house help. Let them do.everything in the house including cleaning the car and washing your own clothes that are not drycleaned!! Even from now, let them run errands for you in the neighbourhood. Let them go and buy eggs, grind things for their mum. This will build in them an attitude of responsibility- knowing nothing happens just on its own. Depending on your neighbourhood you can encourage them to have friends of all status in that environment. But you need to ensure you instil right principles in them so they can deflect wrong influence from outside. And also you should also monitor their character for any bad influence. You can restrict them from some comfort- like if mum & dad is not around don't put on AC. You can also allow the maid to pick them up with public transport from sch. But pls dont compromise on education quality!!

Doctors in the house pls help with this.
I usually have a coughing out of clear phlegm after having my bath. This happens for some

We import fuel and we sell crude.
If price of crude goes up- the govt gains and landing cost of petrol increases. Why should we the citizens pay that increase while the govt keeps its gains?
And so under recovery is really a better word to call it not subsidy

We can extend this relationship to forex rate too.
When exchange rate moved from 184/ $1 to N306/ $1,
the govt gained more naira per oil dollar. And landing cost of refined fuel in naira also further increased due to this factor.
Again is it fair the Nigerian on d street pay for this increase when the govt is making much more gains from the same factor? There is nothing like subsidy people!!

Therefore it's more than expedient to get someone with operational industry knowledge to saddle and focus on it.
