Xisnin:The igbo had a political structure, but unlike the other major tribes and like obtained in Nigeria currently, it was greatly decentralized making it difficult to hijack power and Lord over the people. Thus the improvisation of warrant chiefs. The igbo political structure was decentralized Democratic republic where no single person has power over others and there was little or no militarisation. Thus there was sustained peace and no major wars anywhere within the igbo kingdom. |
HiddenShadow:Not to mention that out of the three major ethnic groups, the igbo was the last to fall and submit to British rule. |
I've been harping on this since 2014, corruption is only but a symptom of the main problem which is our population. The growth is staggaring and far outpaces our economic growth. There ought to be a control at least Max of 3 kids. The competition for this resources is what breeds the coupon and other misdeeds which confound us and always make us wonder if something is actually wrong with the black man. It's a machine dominated labour and economy in the 21st century and every country we hope and wish to be like don't birth as much children as we keep birthing because they understand this basic economic principle. Europe and China is a perfect example including America. I pray this current generation of parents will limit the number of children they birth to 2-3. And in the next 30 years, we'll be leaving behind a much better country for them. |
Kizyte:There's always an exception to every rule and this is one of them |
You should try food supplements, one I'll highly recommend is WATE ON. It's liquid in nature. You just take it after eating. However, with your genetic make up, I think you'll gain weight but that'll be over time.... say by the time you're hitting 28,29,30. Was once quite slim like you but started putting on weight around the age range I mentioned especially at 29,30. Cheers. PS: Another easy way to add weight is to have a bottle of beer every evening. one bottle, no more. |
haywire07:He's a Sikh, Trump isn't against nor after Sikhs. |
toprealman:The problem with green spaces is maintaining them (irrigation, grooming) which can become expensive on the long run but with interlocks you reduce those expenses. But sure, green spaces are nicer. |
Very enlightening interview, learnt more regarding the history of Southern Kaduna crisis, history most never be allowed to repeat itself #colonies. Again Tinibu toeing the same step of Akintola, never ends well. Now twice bitten (Akintola& Tinibu), what next? |
Originalsly:Go through the other books, you'll see where there's specifically red ibo (that book had some words and their meaning) and in another book talking about the light skin color compared to the other slaves (although they noted it was more prevalent with the female ibo slaves) The West Indies tag was giving a specific location of the ibo slaves in question. Just like in some books describing African countries before outright colonisation, they'll refer to the West African countries lumped together as the country of Guinea. |
Feraz:The article tries to trace the origins of the Edo and Yoruba to the NOK culture, however my assertion was about kingdom (a politically organised society having a monarchial form of government). Funny enough an excerpt from the article lends credence to my claim regarding the initial influence of the Nri kingdom on the later Bini Empire. Quoted below; "And Ben-Amos points in connection with Osanobua and the Ogiso, rulers of the 1st dynasty in Benin, to the east: “The east is the cardinal direction associated with the creator god, Osanobua, and with the creation of land, which first rose out, of the primordial waters in a place which today is the Igbo town of Agbor to the east of Benin. All the sites where once the Ogisos built their palaces and ancient quarters are on the eastern side of the present City” (Ben-Amos 1980: 1,3). The east plays a certain role in the Edo calendar which eventually corresponds to the above-said. Egharevba notes: There are four days in the week representing the four corners of the earth. Eken the east, Orie the west, Aho the south, Okuo the north. Eken is a day of rest.” “People do not as a rule go to the farm on that day, but they may do any work in the home. Councils are usually held on this day.. .“ (1949: 81; see also Egharevba 1960: 84) While the days associated with the south and the north were market ones, another native writer amplifies, “Eken and Orie, which also mean the rising and the setting sun, belonged to the gods. It. was dangerous to travel on these two days in case one met the gods” (Omoregie 1972: 9 f) The subject should not be concluded without mentioning one of the oldest sites of discovery of bronze inside the West African forest. T. Shaw made some astonishing discoveries at Igbo-Ukwu (east of the Niger, Awka District). Prominent among the findings .is the burial chamber of: a dignitary which was dated to about A.D 900 (Shaw 1979). There is no evidence of connections between the Igbo-Ukwu culture, whose origin are not known up till now, and Benin. The Igbo-Ukwu bronzes show no stylistic similarity to those known from Ife and Benin. Nevertheless, two features are remarkable: the facial marks depicted on a bronze head are nearly as prominent as we know them from the Ife heads. Furthermore, there are some snake representations similar to those known from Benin. However, this is not unusual in West Africa" Those were the same four days of Eke, Oye (Orie), Afor and Nkwo as given by the Eze Nri which constituted the weekdays of the Igbo people of the then Nri Kingdom which already existed before the Bini Empire. |
Originalsly:I'll ignore your condescending attempt at sarcasm and elaborate on my initial point with sources. https://www.nairaland.com/289678/lightskin-igbos-arent-new-concept https://books.google.com.ng/books?id=_lmFzFgsTZYC&pg=PA168&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q&f=false https://books.google.com.ng/books?id=9QORC_cr86sC&pg=PA46&dq=mulatto+eboe&as_brr=1&redir_esc=y#v=onepage&q=mulatto%20eboe&f=false https://books.google.com.ng/books?id=PrPxWLSrp78C&printsec=frontcover&source=gbs_v2_summary_r&redir_esc=y&hl=en#v=onepage&q&f=false Try a simple search string of "light skinned..." on google and you'll have Igbo thrown up in the prediction engine. As for the warring period, it wasn't continuous but in breaks. Cheers. |
Dfire:Imagine the Benue killings, then amplify it by 100, it still pales in comparison to the igbos who lost their lives. That was why he wanted out and defended his people. Nigeria realised her mistake but is too proud to apologise, hence the state burial. Ojukwu was not the problem, Nigeria was and still is. |
Alariiwo:So much hate embodied in your post. Zik tried to enslave Yorubas? I'll take it you are not Yoruba to start with and have little knowledge of history regarding what transpired. Awo would later seek alliance with the East following his split with Akintola (who favored the North) which got him imprisoned and charged for treason on trumped charges. Reason why Igbos dislike Yoruba is due to the failure of Awolowo to follow through with his dream of an independent yoruba nation following a gentleman agreement after securing his release (funny enough his incarceration and treatment was also among the reasons for the first coup) What did Zik do for his region as premier? Look around the SE and SS states. The foundation bequeated to them is unrivalled. Stop with the hate, that Nigeria attained the heights it did in the old was cos of the strong West/East alliance and strong healthy competition. |
Feraz:The article in question tries to trace the original of the bini and yoruba and to a less extent the igbo to the NOK culture. My assertion was about kingdoms. The extract from the article is however striking and leads credence to my earlier assertion about the Nri influence on bini; "And Ben-Amos points in connection with Osanobua and the Ogiso, rulers of the 1st dynasty in Benin, to the east: “The east is the cardinal direction associated with the creator god, Osanobua, and with the creation of land, which first rose out, of the primordial waters in a place which today is the Igbo town of Agbor to the east of Benin. However, this is not unusual in West Africa" Notice the Igbo four market days as given by the Nri (Eke, Orie, Afor and Nkwo) and also the article continuously alluding to migrations from the East and their continued reverence to it #Binis. As a distinct people following separation from the NOK confidence, the article still buttresses my claim with regards to the Nri kingdom. |
konoplyanka:The Nri kingdom which influenced most of Igbo culture and civilisation was the oldest kingdom in present day Nigeria by historical sources and at it's zennith expanded up to margins of then and yet to metamorphosize bini empire. With the birth and Rise of the bini empire it also extended it's influence further east crossing Agbor and up to present day Asaba (this why you have a lot more igbo cultural influence than that of bini in this areas) before it's fall. Thus the Nri kingdom being the older had consolidated is influence way before and longer before the bini empire did. |
Originalsly:A European traveler of that period who was expediting in present day Nigeria starting his journey from yoruba lands to other parts of the present day Nigeria made note of the light skinned nature of the Igbos he encountered during his travels (compared to other ethnicities he had encountered) Can't remember the name of the book but I actually came across it through nairaland. It was also during the period of Yoruba inter-tribal wars. |

Graceful response from Ben Bruce, petty response from El Rufai |
9jakohai:High crude cost also means high cost of the products from distillation (pms, ago, dpk etc), and low crude cost also means less cost for products of distillation (pms, ago, dpk etc). Either way, the idea of surplus dollar due to high crude cost is a mirage. It's still basically the same situation (except when you factor in production levels). In the end it's all about who manages it better. #mytake |
kingthreat:I don't mean this in a bad way but, the men that brought this Christianity to our shores did so without tithe and never asked for it. The apostles did same also without tithes. I don't mind supporting the ministry one way or the other but why have we our so called men of God decided to yoke people with tithe? I don't think freeze is criticising them generally, but only that of the tithe doctrine. If the apostles could do without it as well as countless other missionaries from the time of the apostles to the 20th century, I believe they also can. Peace bro. |
skydancer:Apt! |
Badtiboi:Why are you being so emotional? I read your post, i commended it but made a constructive criticism. The old testament is based on eye for an eye, gory tales aren't for want there but we are in the New testament bruh and the theme is love. We ought to always pray for the unrepentant ones not curse them to die, they get no salvation in that. As a Christian and a true believer, you ought not concern your self with the plots of mere mortals but that of the devil. That's the real enemy. Jesus came to show us the way (love) and redeemed us from sin and it's iniquities (we rightly deserved), ought we not to do the same for our supposed enemies? What then makes you a Christian (a follower of Christ)? |
delexy123:You wrote well but also like you stated, God punishes 'dead sinners'. Like Christ said let the weed grow with the crop and they shall be separated after harvest (judgement day). I'm not going to criticize Adeboye, but on the other hand I believe our job as Christians is actually to bring them (the sinners) to the right path and you certainly can't achieve that with them dead. I believe the right prayer should always be God's protection against the enemy (just like in the Lord's prayer, which is the model to be followed) and also that the sinners may repent of their evil ways. #mytake. |
legitnow:I guess this explains the recent Oba's visit to Aso Rock. |
excanny:It's showbiz, could've been reaching out strictly on business... |
HtwoOw:I beg to differ, it was a well orchestrated demo. The guy is obviously a trained bee handler, and must've applied something on himself to attract the bees. It's a bit fishy that all that movement didn't agitate the bees to sting the hell out of him. The end game being an advert for his cohort the native doctor who's business is about to switch to rocket mode. |
eagleonearth:That's exactly what he promised during the debate. |
Victornezzar:Not disputing that, just making a point that they further shot themselves in the foot by footing Nwoye as candidate. Someone that lacks decorum and can't even express himself in English correctly. "Portable Roads" imagine the English of the person supposed to be representing us nationally and internationally. He even went on live TV to say Anambra has the worst poverty index. SMH. |
mosaicafrique:Blame it on the APC candidate. |
Benita27:To borrow a line from GOT, tell her 'because all men must die' |
bleskid:Judging by her stomach, I'd say she's probably maybe 3 months due (to delivery). The money in question may not be much but believe me, it more than covers her trouble for that time period considering how much they get paid for that work. They get paid maximum of #1500 per day and most days they don't get hired. I'm not speculating, I'm talking from 1st party experience. Nonetheless, it's a welcome gesture from the governor. PS: I can tell you with certainty that most of these women have never had a lump sum of that amount in their life before. A lot of them either don't own accounts or have never had a balance of that amount just sitting in their account. |
