well i can relate to this..i graduated from futo as well..studied petroleum engineering 2:1 class of degree too finished serving february 2012(and before any one mocks me i tried to earn that degree and i do not feel my conscience prick me as i say this). ive done at least 15 different job exams if i am not mistaken and never for once have i made it through to the next stage.
my conclusion has always been i did not perform well enough to make it through.as i understand only the best among the best make it through.
ive thought myself autocad2d/3d qualified and got my OSHA certificate and currently shopping for where i can do ECLIPSE certification(anyone with information can help me out). all i can say is that its been hellish coping with the depression and feeling of 'i am a failure" that comes every time..

i make a lot of effort to stay positive but sometimes it just doesn't work. its all gloomy down here many times.

i am planning to write a book about my life when things get better for me as i expect them to(i really hope it does) as i believe a lot of people will be inspired when they learn about what a brother had to pass through before making it.
now i may not have seen as much hell as many out there but i just know i'll have to share my travails someday as i have had some experiences worth sharing.
for now..i am still jobless, still applying for jobs and of cuz i get busy on some hustle and God is kind..i can at least earn basic living expenses.

A very much needed intervention indeed.

I took my time to compare both old and new number plates and I could not find a single feature that makes the new one "unfakable" (since that's the dumbass reason those retards gave)

Apart from a bold "green" map of naija..and a reverse in the state initials etc..its pretty much the same number plate and the new one can be faked as much as the old one can.

So I go home wondering, of all the ways FRSC can discharge its constitutional duties its "new number plates/ licence" the idiots decided on.

They will kill us in this country o I swearrigaad.. There is no one to enforce minimum wage yet every single police man ,olokpa, ekelebe, "black n black etc will pour into the streetz like locust to enforce this clearly exploitative policy..
Adverts / 50 Ton Boiler For Production by bigcycs: 1:43pm On Sep 06, 2013
In cross river state calabar agriculture is the key to a stable economy in the future.any investment by way of asset acquisition etc in the agricultural sector is sure to yield handsome returns

The acquisition of boilers should be of particular interest to people into the business of producing liquid products such as oil (palm oil kernel oil, etc)

I therefore believe that a 50tonne boiler from germany coming at a rather attractive price will sound interesting to serious minded producers.

Please contact me directly for further discussions on this (please I do not want to hold audience with joker brokers.only serious individuals should bother to contact me)

Politics / Re: Nigeria To Devalue Naira As External Reserves Dwindle by bigcycs: 11:47am On Jul 23, 2013
Horus:

Yen?; China do not use Yen, are you confusing Yen with Yuan?

That will be my error..thanks its yuan not yen..still doesn't erode the point I was trying to make.

Some1 said nigeria produces 800MT of palm oil and consumes 1.2MMT and therefore suggested "importation" to make up the short fall and I wonder wouldn't it have been better to simply implement policies that will aid rapid increase in production over time such that there will be enough to meet local consumption and much more to export for foreing exchange.

That way our devalued naira becomes a blessing for us . I am from a family where agriculture is the sole means of livelihood and we produce palm oil. I know how many times my dad tried to access government grants and he never succeeded as the whole thing was politicised and they issued grants to politician who never had so much as a seed of groundnut planted( I know of one man who received 3m meant for poultry and all he put up was a bar. And when extension officers visited to inspect his "farm" he took them to his "farm" gave dem beer pepper soup and a brown envelope and that was that.

Nigeria MUST learn to produce she simply must. As unwilling as I am to point fingers I have to make it clear that the blame must go to the FG.. They must demonstrate a resolve to diversify this economy with and there must be policies to aid this and a machinery in place to ensure this policies are implemented to the latter.

So far this government has only demonstrated a resolve to "maintain" the status quo.. Oil this oil that. There can be no two ways about it. We are supposed to use our oil wealth to revitalise other sectors and not buy buy n buy, import import and import.

I am a petroleum engineer by training and in as much as I know oil been a "natural resource" can not necessarily "finish" I really wish our current reservoirs dry up for at least 10years.. Pending when new deposits may be found,I believe this will force. Us as a people to do the right thing.

Nigeria does not have to make cars etc.. She can simply plant/produce exportable agricultural products and pinch her share of this forex.

My brother in ireland told me of how coconut water is "gold dust" in dublin and yet in nigeria..we just Dey drink the ting the troway sef.

Leadership must be purposeful..it must start there.

adahib: Best line of action? Buy up as much dollars as you can to store value.when they are done devaluing the naira, exchange your dollars bit by bit for the naira.

Except that the purchasing power of whatever naira you plan to gain by this scheme will be further reduced.

For an import dependent economy such as ours a devalued local currency only means we will spend more naira for the same item e.g... If i buy a shirt from ebay for $10 which translates to N1500 @ a N155 exchange rate I'll now have to buy the same shirt for N1600 with a new exchange rate of N160...

My point is there is nothing to be gained..yes u will earn more naira per each dollar u stash up..but you will loose it all anyway with a weakened purchasing power of your naira.

China is a manufacturing economy. And so she deliberately keeps her yen devalued and now they are creditors to even the US

But nigeria?.. Na die we Dey o!

as they say 'a people deserve the leaders they get' and in this case 'nigerians', i have read and re-read the article and i cannot still see how the man, 'joe' 'insulted' the first lady.

if a privileged person decides to walk the street naked then such a person leaves his/her subjects with no option than to assume madness is at play.

honestly nigeria's case is hopeless. there will always be people who will blatantly ignore the truth in pursuit of falsehood. this can be inferred from the comments/counter comments on this thread. i am glad though that the number of NLnders who agreed with the op far out number the folks who seem to find nothing wrong in the first ladies latest misdemeanor.
as my dad says..'bury the truth a thousand feet deep and in the morning it will be right at the surface staring you in the face'

i really think someone should do a research on 'nigerians' for a doctorate presentation as there is really much to be learned about our psyche as a people.

now i am totally convinced that our problem is very much us 'followers' as it is ,our leaders'... when something is wrong ,nigerians cannot simply condemn same, folks will come out with all manner of twisted logic just to justify the unjustifiable.some will lay emphasis on past misdeeds as a justification for current misdeeds and any counter opinion is branded 'opposition' etc... so i guess me now with no party affiliation will be branded an 'acn goon' simply because my opinion is at variance with that of the 'supporters'.

let us all continue to endure the hardship of bad leadership till we all learn to hold our rulers accountable.

for the record;the op is right if PEJ should be respected ,she can at least act like someone deserving of respect.

it has come to the point when i have to ask all nairalanders to offer special prayers for us nigerians...we need serious deliverance in this country
pity real pity it is

let us for a second forget the "disclaimer" issued on behalf of GEJ. there is no Gej supporter here who can honestly claim that Gej does not have a hand in this fracas without having a battle with his/her conscience.

did you people honestly expect the president to admit culpability in all this nonsense? surely not!! angry
his apologists on here are in gross denial. one may not necessarily have to instruct or order a fracas like this but ones actions/inactions in situations like this tells the bigger albeit silent story and the professor has stated the obvious, even if Gej did not instigate this drama,,he had already set up the dangerous precedent we are experiencing today as rightly stated by gbawe and these touts(there is none honorable about these men) carried out these drama emboldened by the presidents penchant for conveniently playing aloof when his interest is served.

of course there is the 'patience jonathan factor' and if 'faka' is involved then by extension 'oga' is involved as well.

most of us here are young men/women in our early to late 20s early 30s ,late 30s etc bottom line is we are youth and are not wiser than our elders it will do us good if we listen when wise old men speak especially men that wrote literature we grew up studying

if something is bad it is bad, politicizing it with all sorts of twisted logic is just wrong,

ps:i have said it here in the past, nigeria will never be better until a larger majority of the populace come to the awareness that they can actually be much better governed than they are at present and then rise to do something about it,
the goings on here on nairaland is a "microscopic take" on the state of the country at large( i believe most ethnic groups are adequately represented here on nairaland)

Foreign Affairs / Bees Sting A Man In Texas To Death by bigcycs: 7:15am On Jun 04, 2013
A texan man gets stung to death by about 40000 "africanized bees" gist has it that the man suffered about 3000 stings from this bees .

Now the political angle to this story is the rascist comments that some of those texans folks made.
Reading some of the comments might cause one to wish such a person got the same treatment.

SOURCE:news.yahoo.com/killer-bee-attack-science-explains-mans-death-195739311.html

A Texas man died after being attacked by a swarm of Africanized honeybees, sometimes called "killer bees." Larry Goodwin, 62, was driving a tractor near his home south of Waco when he disturbed a pile of wood that contained a hive of the notoriously aggressive bees; eight people have been killed by the bees since 1990, the Waco Tribune reports. "You can't believe how bad they are. They make me want to get out of this business," Allen Miller, owner of Bees Be Gone, who later destroyed the hive, told the Tribune. "They can get up under your clothes where no other insect can go," Miller said. "In a hive of ordinary European bees, about 10 percent will attack if the hive is threatened, but with African bees, all of them attack you."

The introduction of Africanized honeybees into the Western Hemisphere was the result of a scientific experiment gone awry, according to a Texas A&M University report. In 1956, Warwick Kerr, a honeybee geneticist with the University of São Paulo, Brazil, imported African bees (Apis mellifera scutellata) to study. His intention was to selectively introduce traits such as disease resistance and faster reproductive rate into native honeybees. But a handful of the African bees escaped into the wild, where they interbred with native bees to produce bees with traits primarily derived from their dominant African forbearers (traits of the more docile native bees tended to be recessive and therefore lost), leading to the term "Africanized honey bees."

Just when we crave for a viable opposition to keep the PDP on their heels what do we get? O we get a buhari served on a platter. The kinda "breakfast" u find on the dinning table that makes you simply angry.

This man(buhari) will never ever ever be nigerias president. His best option is to make off with a couple of his kinsmen(cattle goats and all) to some part of the desert, settle there, name the place nigeria and then be its president. That's the best he can do.

I cannot even begin to comprehend his devious omission of the fact that boko haram was offered amnesty which they promptly rejected. The fact that he makes no comments on the innocent lives violently killed by boko haram sums It all up.

I think GEJ just had it easier.all he needs to get re-elected is to get his party nomination and then have a buhari opponent. Because as incompetent as GEJ might seem, majority of nigerians will vote GEJ over buhari anyday.I sure as hell won't vote a boko haram sympathiser ever .
ACN better cure itself of this "cancer" for the sake of sustaining a viable opposition in this our democracy.

Arguments for and against as is to be expected from any topic on sensitive issues.(Even some of the worlds worst leaders ever still had their army of apologists/loyalist)

One does not need to give a hoot about the US to appreciate the content of their report. Again the fact that the US is also bedevilled by the ills they criticise nigeria about is immaterial in this circumstance also the suspected interest(or lack of it) of the US which some commenters have attributed as the basis for this damning report should not take front seat in preference to the need to discuss pertinent ISSUES as raised therein
is the report stating the truth or did it lie blatantly?
To me it restated a long known fact.
People take pains to enlist a lytanny of achievements of the present FG. why they feel nigerians need to be told about govt interventions on a forum I don't know. the vast majority of nigerians without access to IT facilities will not read it hence their only attestation to govt progress will always be what they can see happen around them and not what some "patriot" posts on nairaland.
I,A nigerian, still haven't seen light in my house for days(still comes once in a while and goes as in the past)
I a petroleum engineering graduate cannot still get a job in spite of the many interviews I have attended and many certification skills as I have been able to afford.(I still need to be "connected" to fix that)

Hoodlums invaded my family business situated in our village and on complaining to the police we had to "mobilise" them to act and even then they didn't.

I won't bother with the issue of corruption..as everyone knows how endemic that is.
I do not hate GEJ(dont love him either) and I do not think he is clueless as adjudged.
I believe this govt is about maintaining a status quo, one which ensures a minority continue to control wealth at the expense of a majorly poor and struggling population.

If there was a sincere fight against corruption a sincere FG should have set up fast track courts with time frames for cases and major convictions should have happened simple!! Not arguments and counter arguments.

By 2015 i am sure many more nigerians will be totally convinced of the ineptitude and ineffectiveness of this present govt. yet again that still won't guarantee that they will vote wisely.
juxtapose the enormous resources that accrue to this nation with the heavily publicised "achievements" on ground and well its not hard to conclude that the FG has again fallen far far short.
(They even had to print a several paged document to show you what they have achieved and in it contained "purchase of 2 number toyota hiace buses" !!!)
Why must our development be "paper" or "internet" based. why must people sit in their offices and tell us that our economy is growing by 7% and yet you go out and reality slaps you in the face.
I realise it won't take "a day" to fix nigeria but if someone tells me FG has completed power projects,I had better see light in my house(There are a million more why's where those came from)
I wonder what it will take for nigerians to understand that they are still poorly governed and deserve better?

My brother you are on point while studying abroad I had a first hand encounter with children of these northern elites, the way they spend money like water, one of my hausa friend spends more than $ 10 000 as monthly allowance without including accomodation expenses, they had this kind too important air and looked down on those of us from the south in the same school. getting job is not a problem for them msot of them came back and are working in all these oil companies, one that we shared the same apartment with in college was taken up by LNG immediately while me getting job was hard if not for the support of my family now running succesful internatonal bussiness.
The issue is that we are in the same country but not equal, they are the ones that run everything in this country, but those in the south are still blind to this.

Bro its a painful reality really. I can still remember when I did my NYSC BTW i am a petroleum Engineer by training and I got posted to obi-ayima secondary school ika south and some small northern theatre arts fulani girl got posted to NNPC. I just laughed.
You see I do not think the entire south is still ignorant. it took several decades of northern domination to establish this unacceptable situation and it will take some time and dedication to reverse this dangerous trend.

I have posted it in the past here on nairaland that president GEJ is not dumb or clueless as people claim. Instead he Is a devious schemer very sly..more like a snake. notice how he is silently grabbing the whole of the PDP yet he poses like an innocent mouse in public Just the right type of man to handle this egocentric northerners. It would have done that lad "muktarr" more good if you had helped him reconstruct his tenses. that's the sort we have owning oil blocks and prancing about nigeria like kings. Lol
Politics / Re: Northerners Own 80% Of Oil Blocks - Senator Enang by bigcycs: 12:28pm On Mar 07, 2013
Well der you have it. Stuff we have always known now presented in printed facts.

Come down south to calabar depot and you find northerners buying up to 30 - 50 trucks worth of petroleum products heck! Sometimes they bring a whole ten ton barge. And I wonder are these guys such entrepreneurial geniuses are they such fine business men or is it just that we southerners are such dunces and hence cannot muster cash to finance such capital intensive ventures.

So I think further and there's my answer. if my dad owned an oil block that rakes in N4bn daily then I'll be damned if the world doesn't hear about me.

A monopoly propagated and sustained over decades through the existence of one northern president after another and of cuz the resultant positioning of their sons and daughters in key positions all through the country. They have all the connections all the contacts. anyone of them that dares to go to school is more likely to get a good job. go to abuja all over the damned place you see tiny hausa girls driving huge cars they even look like toys in. and u'll think they wer such blue blooded geniuses.
This has given their younger generations an air of superiority and invincibility..they actually consider themselves above the rest of us nigerians.

So you wonder why they are so desperate to clinch the presidency,by contrast you wonder why there are still so many poor and illiterate northerners in spite of the domineering presence of extremely rich sons of northern extract.

Most of these wealthy northerners can only thrive with a monopoly. Take away that government reach and you have feather weights left

In as much as I am no tribalist one cannot help but feel rage and hate towards this greedy northern elite.I only wish president GEJ would just fix one thing convincingly just ONE sector.

This is in partial response to the lad whose comments suggest no one who didn't join a cult is a saint...

Your argument fails when u add another "hobby" of cultist and that's killing people..yeah we all did all sorts of stuffs in school but at least we didn't go as far as playing with guns knives and axes and killing and maiming one another when there is a disagreement.
I doubt if any1 here is assuming the status of a saint here but I believe a majority are unanimous about one thing..cultism is simply bad.
There is no two ways about it.
if one decides to be a "bad boy" drink gulder, smoke cigar, sort courses, and sleep with women..I am not sure one needs to be in a cult to achieve that.

Actions and consequences that's the watch word..live by the gun and expect to die by it.

I had a friend in Futo then who "blended" in 300L typical mummies boy but dude started handling a gun and according to the lad.."I be chief butcher"..(D Bleep right!!)
So I ask myself..wat exactly has dis dude decided to become a "chief butcher" for..kill somebody most likely..

RIP to the lad who got "pinched" but I say it serves as another lesson to "intending sons"..the going seems good untill the guns start going off or the axes start falling..and your the guy at the wrong end.

I am so darn sick and tired of all this messi V CR7 rants.CR7 is a great player no doubt I actually laud him,the fact that he has shown class in differnt leagues even further cements that fact

BUT messi is truly the best. A lot of people simply hate or are jealous of him and so they throw up the lame argument that "..he should prove himself in another league.." Yet they go silent on other proven legends like giggs ,gerard pele maradonna etc who did their thing in #1 league only.. Like they say haters are always gonna hate and no matter how hard u try a biased mind will always look for a reason to hate. They say he depends on xavi n iniesta...yet nobody bothers to look at the stats to see how many assists ,play making dis guy makes etc they don't even watch FCB games to see messi drop deep in d mid field to make some play bolsters d attack they only ask friends ..wetin barca play abeg-- then they go mscheww not again!!..should he just take d ball from the Goalie and dribble his way to the opposite goalie just so u haters r satisfied? Then u go .."Bleeh! He is selfish.."..doesn't CR7 have d likes of ozil, di maria or does he play and score alone??..I taya o!.. NO player can ever win a tea cup without his team so wen pple attribute individual successes to the help of team mates I just wonder wer their brains @ ,even when serena wins a grand slam(in an individual sport)..some recognition is given to her trainers etc how much more a team sport..wat the hell is wrong with people??!!!!

People say trash about messi not becuz he is a bad player but cuz they hate him ,they hate FCB ,they hate the way he/FCB keep winning..they pray he breaks a leg..they pray FCB looses,,silently they'll love him in their team and they can't so they hate and continue to find reasons to hate. o God! Hating is such hard work.
Personally I do not think the EPL is a lesser league than the Liga I just believe the EPL is really competitive in its own class yet I believe the spanish football quality is just awesome(some great players in there).sometimes I wish FCB can elect to play in the EPL for a change. so maybe the soccer body should originate a tourney that'll see teams playin in other leagues for a certain trophy I think it will be great seeing FCB compete in the EPL,bundesliga, serie A etc

Finally The fact is this. Messi will win the ballon d'or. Messi n.FCB will keep winning for a long time cuz their winnin is not a fluke or flash in d pan but a result of a footballing culture nutured over the ages fcb is so much more than just football .for sure they'll loose games(if not soccer will be boring) ,loose trophies but on d whole the wins will far over shadow the loss and guess what haters will still be behind they Tv screens, ipads,BBs etc doing what?..hating of cuz! Just life..am sure messi doesn't care about wat y'all say. he is devoted to fCB cuz the club gave him a shot @ greatness he is not driven by a desire to acquire money and personal greatness but a simple desire to play great football and God rewards the little legend and some pple just can't see this simple fact..*smdh*
