Hmmm interesting topic you have here. Haven't read the entire thread yet (and not sure I will) but a couple of posts do place an uunsual dimension on a few things. Quick question though: Is it bad to pay your tithes? |
Pataki:WOW!!!!!! What kinda bag, do you use? A knapsack? [/quote]no fit be knapsack, definitely ghana-must-go |

@poster I am not sure where you got your information from, but they are so off base that I don't know where to start. Firstly, there is a difference between organic vs non-organic (not inorganic - that is in chemistry), and genetically modified (not enhanced) and non-genetically modified food sources GM food are essentially genetically modified to posses certain desired traits like immunity to an infection, or reduce rate of ripening. - Genetically enhanced foods are not the problem per se, but rather lack of due diligence in analyzing the effects new variants/mutants - There is little to no research on the clinical impact of GM foods - GMs result in reduced use of pesticides, herbicides and antibiotics by making the plant or animal genetically immune. Organic foods are cultivated under an approximately closed farming system. What qualifies as organic depends on the specific country, and except in the case of livestock, usually does not bar the cultivation of GM produce - The issue of organic foods is more of marketing than actual facts. Like in most situations where money is at stake, supporters come out with research results that favor them, while the opposing side bring up counter results. - The whole organic production is less than 2% of world food production. So I wonder why the rest of the world is so stupid if the dangers are so evident as you claim. - Organic food still make use of some of the chemicals used in alternate methods - There has been no incontrovertible evidence that organic foods are nutritiously better than the alternative. - The yield of organic farming is lower and the associated cost is higher As the field of medicine advances, finer diagnoses would be possible, and thus there would be 'more diseases'. Ailments that formerly unidentified, non resolvable, or wrongfully diagnosed, can now be properly classified. Most diseases (infectious diseases) are caused by pathogens (viral, bacterial, and fungal), and not the food we eat. Ingested chemical can possibly cause non-infectious diseases like cancer and cardiac problems. Specific chemicals have been traced to several of such diseases, but the path from using them as pesticide to the occurrence of the disease is not so clear. Life expectancy in Nigeria was 42yrs in 1970 and 47yrs for both 1990 and 2006. I don't know what your indicators are that led you to conclude that "people are dying young" BTW I knew someone who lived in the US, was a vegetarian, and ate organic foods, but unfortunately died of cancer |

Irrespective of gender, to drink is to risk getting drunk. Being drunk paves the way for a grand misbehavior, which is never a scene to remembered. Some say "I know my limits' or 'I am a social drinker', or even better still ' I can never get drunk' One day na one day, monkey go go market, e no go come back! Personally, I like to be in full cognizance of my senses. |

Don't know if it had been suggested earlier, but a rating system would help. Its used on other forums where threads are rated, and also posters receive reps. This gives others a heads up on the purposefulness of threads and users, and also helps the mods to easily identify perennial offenders for perma-ban. |

Moonstone:I am not sure if you read the entire contents of the thread, . If you did, you will rightly observe that the guy's posts reek of selfish intentions. - He has failed to state anything he has done to improve the situation (until his more recent posts) - His self righteous attitude - His failed attempt to absolve himself of the accusation of marrying the poor girl for the immigration benefits (called it bonus) - He is courting someone else - His family, who are likely more informed than us, don't support his intentions. |
DeepZone:Not entirely true. The sex determining chromosome pair is XY for male and XX for female. During meiosis (production of f sex gametes -sperm cells and ova), the chromosome is split into two. The ova always carries an X chromosome (from XX) while the sperm is X or Y in 50:50 ratio (since each original cell has an XY that splits into a X and a Y). A sperm and an ovum will later combine to form the new baby. Hence, theoretically, the man determines the sex of the baby and the chance of having a boy or a girl is 50:50. Unfortunately the process of combination is not necessarily equitable, as several factors affect which of the sperm gets to be lucky. The Y chromosome bearing sperm (which would result in a boy) is thought to be more fragile when compared to the X counterpart and hence dies more easily. So the time in the woman's monthly cycle that sex happens could affect the sex of the child, as also the amount of time that the sperm spends waiting in the testicles. Also certain women are thought to secrete hormones that are harmful to one sex of sperm hereby tilting the table in favor of the other i.e. you could have a woman who is unaccommodating to Y bearing sperms. All this being said, only a single sperm is needed to form a baby, and thus while the odds might be stacked against a particular gender, it does not bar the unlikely from occurring. |
KunleOshob:My statement was that 'I dont think pastors or the church should be involved in any form of business'. Remembering that Jesus did not come to change the laws, I am not for discarding the teaching of the OT under the guise of a new covenant, but rather seeking the underlying notion for the law, which is always in harmony in both the OT and NT. Guidance in all parts of the bible are all aimed at the primary goal of drawing us closer to God. If one keeps this in mind, then a lot of things that seem to be in discord between and/or within the OT and NT, would be seen to be in harmony. For me, a pastor should be in full-time service of the lord, I say so because full dedication by a pastor, without the desires and distractions, of the world, gives a more conducive environment for the spiritual development needed, and shepherding of the flock. The support of the church and his wife's income should be sufficient for him to lead a moderate life (as I don't support a pastor living in lavishness, but that is a different issue which likely deserves its own thread). The whole issue comes back to the unavoidable conflict of interests, for every second you spend in pursuit of your livelihood, takes away from your time of fellowship with the Lord. This needed dedication to the Lord is why the priests and apostles did not pursue other interests. In my initial sweeping reference of 'priest and prophets' I was actually referring to those that were in the service of the Lord, and wasn't including everyone that God spoke through or used. Thus Abraham wasn't on my initial list. Even then, let us consider the conflict between Abraham and Lot over the land. With full glory to the Lord is the amicable solution that was found (though one cannot ascertain how bad the conflict had gotten) but it could also have easily gone south, if for instance Lot was not is kinsmen. I prefer to avoid situations where a pastor, being human, due to his failure in the work place, causes another to sin by speaking against God or his anointed. The foundation of a business is profitability - anything else and its not a business. Money making interests are often not aligned with the spiritual growth of the church, and thus it is a dicey situation to let the church get caught up in the middle. Members of the church can run a business, and donate as much of the proceeds as they deem fit, but the church as en entity shouldn't stoop so low and get itself caught up in the mire of the world. I do appreciate that the demands that certain pastors put on the church is often unjustifiable, and some congregations do not consider the welfare of a full-time pastor (or even misbehave further on the grounds that the pastor lives of their earnings), still I would rather correct those ills than set off down a path that would likely be worse off for the church. |
KunleOshob:I didn't say all Christians or church workers should not work. Paul was setting an example to a young flock. Questions you should ponder are - why the levites didn't get a share of the inheritance and only homes to live in - why priests and prophets in the bible weren't mentioned to have jobs. - why Jesus asked the disciples to abandon their jobs. - why john the baptist didn't have a job - why paul often gave thanks to people that ministered to his needs - Jesus who shunned violence at other times, threw out people that were trading in the temple |
jidobaba:e be like say the last one enter body! ![]() Its obviously pointless responding to you as you can't seem to form even a simple declarative statement. All you seem interested in is seeing my 'fugly' face (so that you can self-service off on it abi?). I know of your failed attempts to upload your own pic, as every time you tried to, the anti-virus would always pickup and quarantine your wowo face. Your posts reek of a semi-illiterate, who thinks he is educated when he is not even half lettered. To accommodate the IQ of people like you is one of the benefits of negative numbers. You are a poor case of 'spare the rod, and spoil the child' cos if your parents, after the grave mistake of failing to abort your pregnancy (a deed that would have been commended by all as a great service to humanity), had diligently, and incessantly, whooped your black arse back then (and till date) you wouldn't be uttering all these nonsense. Your lack of proper African 'home training' is evident for all to see. Like I said, no be your fault, na cyber cafe. PS: Please repond quickly before your time expires ![]() |
jidobaba:wey your own picture? you and dat ur 'fine face' wey go good for horror film! Its a public forum, you don't have to read and post in every thread. If you don't like whats posted, then keep your hands off the keyboard and stay out, instead of bleating like an he-goat that's being sodomized. Thinking more about it, the fault lies not with you, but rather with the non-discriminatory internet access, which allows idiots like your to express you lack of manners on a global stage. You sound like the kind of idiots that come in paper bags, stamped imported |
paulipopo:So lets start with the teachings (if you can make a case on this, the question of practices becomes trivial). Could you please give some examples of his teachings that you disagree with. |
@paulipopo I am not (at least for now) interested in the veracity (or otherwise) of your claims, but rather in getting a clear understanding of your position. Which do you actually have issues with as regards Pastor Chris Oyahkilome - his teachings, practices or the man himself? |

jidobaba:Its quite revealing what people post after a little sober self-reflection, coupled with typing while staring in the mirror. |
Depends on the person, and my relationship with him/her. Some people tend to say things they don't mean in the heat of the moment. Knowing that, it would be unfair to take it up against them. Add the fact that people often change their minds. Still I always advice people to choose their words carefully, else you hurt others you care about. |
