You can't become a king in another man's kingdom without his permission. The traditional title falls under the jurisdiction of the state government, subject to the exception of the federal. The state government consulting them would be an act of courtesy on the part of the government, as I doubt the government was consulted before the creation of the titles. If they feel they have a genuine case, they should take their issues to the court of law. |

It seems when a thread exceeds 100 pages, the mods are required to lock the existing thread and recreate a new one. In the process of creating the new thread I believe the old thread should be carried along in the first post of the new thread. Not doing so is simply plagiarism, and should be discouraged at all levels. A simple reference to the originator of the thread and providing a link(s) to the old thread(s) should suffice. For example This is a continuation of the <'thread title'> thread created by <original thread starter> . The old thread(s) is/are available at (in chronological order) 1. http ://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-xxxxxx.html 2. http ://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-xxxxxx.html 3. http ://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-xxxxxx.html This would also help provide relevant information to the participants of the new thread. A lack of an established process has led to the current unattended grievances of a user in the culture section (please see https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-231979.0.html). I would like the admin to put in place a best practice recommendation to address the issue and if possible have it retroacted upon in affected threads. We need to respect the intellectual properties and contributions of others, no matter how trivial the idea may look in hindsight. |
Outstrip:I am not saying he should ignore his wife's wishes just because his friend made a request, nor am I supporting him ignoring his friends wishes all because his wife has a conflicting desire. He should simply weigh the pros and cons of his choices and decide. I had earlier given my opinion in that I would try to eat my cake and have it, by going to the wedding. What I do have an issue with is people trying to make him guilty for going to his friends wedding. For example Gadols:Gadols was simply exaggerating things and blurring the facts. His going to his friend's wedding wouldn't make him any less a man. Nobody here knows what kind (if any) sacrifices he has required from his friend in the past, and thus it is not always right to just brush his friends wishes aside. Statement like "Whats the matter with you?" or "Be a man that you are.' are simply trying to make the guy feel guilty in order to back him in to the choice they prefer. |
Outstrip:Sentiments is judgment based on feelings. You sound sure that the baby would be born on the day of the wedding? ![]() If it was a job assignment, would you ask him to quit as well? ![]() A few posters made it seem like if his attendance to the wedding guaranteed him missing the birth of his child or that because his wife has wishes he should have no regards for his friend's. All that is being sentimental in my opinion. |
I am always skeptical of judging one solely on the narration of another. Kola is obviously not here to defend himself. That aside, I believe all is free and fair in love and war. I 'm sympathetic to your plight (if all you said is true) but you made your choices and he made his; both parties are responsible for how things turned out. Learn from the experience and move on. |
As long as you are clear on what you are getting into, there should be no wahala. |
chaircover:I was beginning to wonder as to what the topic of discussion was, given the earlier posts that seem to be solely based on sentiments. |
@poster what are you referring to as financial troubles: not earning enough or living above your means ![]() |
Its not their fault.islam is fundamentally a barbaric and savage religion.they've refused to move foward and reform. They see every form of reform as western influence. This is sheer narrow mindedness.
Nor do you seem like the epitome of civility. |
michelin89:Its disappointing that segoye2's posts have not been too cordial (though your responses also didn't help). Hopefully both sides would be willing to exchange apologies and move on. Thanks for the edit to the new thread. Additionally, a link to the old thread would be appreciated. I hope this grows to be part of the process of recreating threads in the future, as it would be a shame to revisit this issue every time another user has similar grievances. |
michelin89:His rights are for starting the thread, and he does not need to participate in the thread to ensure those rights. Even if he passes away, his intellectual rights should not be violated. After all, you would not say Newton or any other past scientist do not have rights to their scientific contributions, simply because they did not utilize those laws themselves or failed to teach it to others. I am a bit perplexed to the reasons why this issue is yet to be resolved. You say that your intention was not to abduct segoye2's brain child, and yet you are reluctant to edit the first post with the appropriate references. Rather, you have decided to place the issue at the doorstep of the admin. The fact that the issue at hand is a common practice is quite saddening, as it doesn't speak well to values of the admin, mods, and general users on NL, and in turn reflects badly on the Nigerian populace. The new thread as it is, is (intentional or not) simply an act of plagiarism. If you disagree with that statement, the followup test questions are simply 1. whose idea was the original thread? 2. Has due credit been given to him in the new thread? The honest answers to these questions would verify the earlier statement. As a person, I really don't care about the thread. What I am interested in is improving the norms and practices of NL and the Nigerian society. It behooves one who knows to educate those that don't, cause if there is no law, then there is no sin. Plagiarism should be shunned in all forms. |
tpiah:Incorrect - Racism is an infectious and terminal disease. Racists should be quarantined as early as possible, before they infect others. |

Nope. It would only encourage the bad habit. |
Natural looks are overrated. Its more about the entire package and its presentation. I have met some good looking girls that feel that that is all they need to have, but I am sorry, of what use is your looks to me, if you don't have the character and/or intellect to complement it. |
sounds like the guy has issues with not finding her attractive, and less of it is about she being his cousin ![]() |
1. Even if they pass it later, the school will still withdraw their bachelors degree if discovered. FUTO I know for sure verifies your SSCE results during your stay in the school and if they discover anything, you are off the boat. They don't normally do it until two years after your matriculation and few in our set left that way. So I don't know how this guy beat his own. 2. As soon as they finish computing your result and give you the go ahead for NYSC, every other crime hidden in your file is history. How will they discover it when you've gone?. The chances are close to zero.
Because some one who has an axe to grind can bring it to the school's attention. I know of a case at one of the first generation federal universities - the BS was withdrawn, the MS and PhD were withdrawn by the associated foreign university, and the individual lost his job. The event was triggered by a letter from his classmate (and possibly close friend, given the level of information he provided) to the school senate almost 15yrs after the incidence. I agree that passing the SSCE after the fact does not safeguard them against prosecution. The degree belongs to the university. |
If they were able to avert the exam until they graduated from the university, why are they worrying themselves about it again?. No employer of graduate school requires S.S.C.E. You only need SSCe to enter and graduate from the university and if the university graduate you without it, you are off the hook.
If it was discovered, it is enough grounds to withdraw the bachelors degree. |
The airport will attract traffic from cities that have no other alternatives. The airport in Akwa ibom will not attract traffic destined for calabar nor port harcourt. Aside from the skeletal staff, all other employment or business opportunities that would arise would depends on the level of activity of the airport. A more inland location inwards of the aba-eket-uyo triangle would have been my preferred location (as those, I feel, are the key cities that would generate the traffic) For the region, I would prefer a high speed rail (200km/hr+) connection from calabar to uyo onto port harcourt, aba, (possibly ikot ekpene) and eket, making uyo a sort of hub and bringing more commerce to the area. That for me is a better investment in the transport sector, than the airport |
mikeansy:I assume this as a joke ![]() |
@SapeleGuy Do you have any information on the investment group involved in the BOT for the Asaba airport? as all info I have seen seem to point to the state government footing the bill, and possibly ULO getting a BOT deal for their effort. ![]() |
SapeleGuy:So who is paying for the construction of the airport? Private investors or public funds or a mix. All public funds should be judiciously allocated. Unless there are no public funds involved, such concerns are well placed. |
AjaraEwuro:1Health and Education. Build and equip schools and hospitals. 2. Power : Find way to support efforts of phcn to provide predictable power to the communities 3. Water : Delivering pipe borne water to both urban and rural areas 4. Agriculture: Invest in mechanization of the sector 5. Transport: Improved Road and Rail infrastructure e.g. Partnership between Ogun-Lagos for bullet train to deliver people to the island, which would in turn increase the value of real estate in ogun state and attract higher income settlers and subsequent development or improving drainge systems to help the maintenance of roads. These may not be the best investments, but I will argue they are more beneficial to the populace than a airport. |
If you are the governor of Akwa-Ibom/Ogun/Delta and you had $300M at your disposal, which project(s) would you embark upon?Building an airport? ![]() |
sistawoman:That is quite confusing so whats the difference? |
