Crashed Plane: Soldiers, Hunters Begin Search for Black BoxBy Chinedu Eze, 09.09.2008 Add To Favorites Print This Article Post Comment A group of hunters along with 10 soldiers will this morning lead investigators from the Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) to the site where the twin turbo-prop Beechcraft 1900D crashed on March 15 at Busi village in Cross River State. The crashed plane was discovered with the remains of the crew on August 30. The delegation is in search of the missing flight data recorder (FDR) and cockpit data recorder (CDR) known as black box. Disclosing this to newsmen yesterday, spokesman of the Bureau, Mr. Tunji Oketunbi, said the agency had been hamstrung by the inability of the investigators to access the site because no helicopter had been able to land on the hill near the site . The crew of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) rescue helicopter that was initially carrying out the operation stopped work as its agreement date with NEMA had expired. "That place (Busi) to Obudu is eight hours in the jungle. We are trying not to expose our investigators to that kind of risk and the stress, but our investigators have volunteered that they will go and do the job. There are soldiers and hunters that will go with them," he said. He assured that the black box would be found at the site if there is a thorough search for it, lamenting that the area has thick forest which constituted a big hindrance to the investigators. "The black box will be recovered from the site, because on Wednesday the team that went to inspect the sight could not conclude their assignment for that day because of the weather that made it difficult for the helicopter to leave that place on time, we thought that by Friday they would be back on site, but logistic problem had now set in. "Without crew to operate the only functional helicopter owned by NEMA , the agency had no choice than to resort to conducting the search on foot with the villagers and the soldiers," he said. source:http://www.thisdayonline.com/nview.php?id=122018 |
32 years for an Ibo president Nigeria is effectively a one party state , with PDP in cruise control. The probability of any party defeating the ruling PDP is slim. According to PDP power sharing formular the state Governor is to rotate among the 3 senatorial district while the presidency is to rotate among the 3 major region , and this has already started with the west producing 8 years Obj rule. Based on this arrangement we could extrapolate into the future thus: West (Obj) - 8 years North (Yaradua) - 8yrs East (Goodluck ?) - 8 years the circle starts all over again: West - 8yrs North - 8 years East (Ibo?) - 8yrs Based on the above calculation and PDP rotational presidency, if an Ibo person does not succeed Yaradua , Assuming he last 8 years, it would take 32 years for an Ibo president to emerge. Though there is no guarantee that the arrangement will hold; a crazy army officer could torpedo it. So far the arrangement seems to be holding. Last week there were filters from the north that even if Yaradua should die, they are going to see out their 8 years tenure. when would it be the turn of the Ibo's? 32 years? I stand to be corrected Ikpe mara eziokwu na aka azu diya |
its true , BBc report: Nigerian leader appears in public President Umaru Yar'Adua refuses to say exactly what he suffers from Nigerian President Umaru Yar'Adua has appeared in public for the first time in two weeks, marked by speculation and rumour about his health. He presided over the swearing-in of new military chiefs in the capital Abuja. The president, who suffers from a chronic condition which affects his kidneys, was receiving treatment in Saudi Arabia. President Yar'Adua also sacked a high-ranking government official who had been linked with the rumours. Secretary to the Government of the Federation Baba Gana Kingibe was removed and replaced by former Defence Minister Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, it was announced by e-mail. Constitutional problem The president's continued ill-health posed a problem for Nigeria's constitution, political scientists told the BBC. If he were to step down, or die, he must be replaced by Vice-President Goodluck Jonathan, who is from the country's southern Delta region. But according to the ruling People's Democratic Party's own formula for sharing power among the country's regions, the president must be a northerner. Rumours circulating among journalists and political pundits said the president was going to step down because of his ill-health and Mr Kingibe would step in as a kind of "puppet-master" Vice-President. Mr Kingibe, from Borno state in north-west Nigeria, was the vice-presidential running mate in the 1993 elections, annulled by former military ruler Ibrahim Babangida. He was also Minister for the Interior under Mr Babangida's successor General Sani Abacha. It was during this time that Shehu Yar'Adua, the current president's brother, was imprisoned. Shehu Yar'Adua, a former vice-president, died in jail. 'Pilgrimage' When he left Nigeria, President Yar'Adua said he was going to Saudi Arabia to visit the Muslim holy city of Mecca. Rumours about his worsening state of health spread after it was confirmed he was in a hospital in Jeddah. Spokesman for the opposition Action Congress (AC) Lai Mohammed told the BBC's News website the country was on "auto-pilot". President Yar'Adua has suffered from a condition affecting his kidneys for at least 10 years. He has twice been flown to Germany for emergency medical treatment in the last 18 months. Mr Yar'Adua has refused to say exactly what condition he suffers from, and has repeatedly said in interviews that his life is "in the hands of God." source:http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7604889.stm |
the power play continues |
there is no government institution in Nigeria that can give you single relevant accurate figure. their officials are too busy thinking about family support |
Your story is typical, most Yoruba 419 will tell you its a standard test and procedure "obe ni, owo Iya charlie" , Their Ibo brothers will confirm it by saying , "Aku n'esi obi ike. And their distant Hausa cousin who refuse to board the hustling train will seek solace in God, "baki da Allah yo tsaga, ya nema mata abun da zai ci". |
DeepZone watin concern you, concern Ahmadu Bello, na your relative!!!! Busybody, Agaracha!! |
it is not the charity are am talking about but the level of discrimination the north have towards other nigerians. Even against the middle belt. I understand them and hear them speak. you wonder?I have seen it , witness it and felt it. l have said it time without number on this thread, northerners have no conscience, especially the far Muslim north. they are the most pernicious vermin mother nature has ever suffered to walk the earth. |
Kazeem, l can assure you that there wont be a revolution, peaceful or violent in Nigeria in your lifetime. Our problem is very complex. the Nigeria factor is like a virus that has eaten deep into our psyche, ask biologist they would tell you, " virus has no cure" |

You say make we follow Thailand, l go quote baba Fela: "if you wan follow follow, make you open eye, open ear, open nose. If you follow follow Thailand, na inside gutter you go fall, my people make you no follow Thailand, look am and use your sense" |
naijaking1 People that used the Tivs, Nupes, and Yorubas to win the civil war, succeeded in changing the natural demographics of Nigeria by manipulating the census, forcing many southerners into self imposed economic/political exile; and you still think they are blinded by ignorance? Think again, maybe its you and me(southerners) who are ignorant and stupid. To say the north use other tribe to win the war shows your lack of understanding of the complex politicking that occur during the biafra war. The north has every opportunity to manipulate anything they want, they ve been in power over the years. But despite this, majority of their people are wallowing in object poverty, high infant mortality rate, drug abuse, disease, illiteracy ; compared to other part of the country. Even Saludo lament, "poverty is a northern phenomenon". Compare the Ibo's; they lost the war and where deny power. Yet they fight back to become the richest, one of the most educated and enlighten Nigeria you would ever meet. That is the natural will power of the people and absolute desire to succeed against the odd. the north is a joke, even if they rule for another 50 years, they would be worst than they are today. |
Something must have to be done, but wait until Igbo president mounts the throne.Biko, igbo president indeed. It will be easier for an elephant to pass through the eyes of a needle. |
nuzo Dont be myopic friend. I know how many friends, connections and biz deals I've lost for hanging the flag in front of my door and car electric bikenuzo God will continue to bless you. That useless flag will be the last thing l will hang in front of my house. Times without number, I have been insulted in the airport simply for presenting that useless Nigeria passport. @poster The last patriotic Nigerian died in the civil war, his name - Mr Common Man |
Nobody should expect anything, a sick president is as good as no president. |
which budget? thats not important. Oga patapata is sick , your talking of budget!!!!!!!! |
watin concern Mallam Bahushe with hustling, margarine no be dog food To the average hausa man the world start and end in the north. They are so blinded by their ignorance that they believe God is an hausa man. Their blind arrogance is reflected in the plate number of Sokoto state, " the right to rule". |
@ poster Reading your explanation, l understand your point. We would require more data to use facebook figure to extrapolate Nigeria population. Critical figure needed to back up facebook figure does not exist at present in Nigeria, though it could be evaluated using various statistical methods. |
Richy RichyBlack a disgrace? I'll keep my cool for now. However, I encourage you to read my second post. I see nothing wrong in trying to know how many we are. We both know that we cannot rely on Nigeria's government to conduct any credible census.Richy my brother, biko , continue to keep your cool, no offence intended. |
thank God for our president ooooooooooooo. Jesus your wonderful |
As a matter of urgent national importance, we require the set of ministry of juju to advise the government and standardise the forensic application of juju , to avoid confusion and accident in the polity. God bless Nigeria |
Man shoots brother to death testing efficacy of juju Written by Peter Duru Saturday, 06 September 2008 The desperation of a middle aged man to fortify himself against gun shots has resulted in his untimely death following the gun shot he received from his elder brother while trying to perfect the efficacy of the concoction prepared for him by a witch doctor. Saturday Vanguard investigations revealed that the weird expedition took place in Ugambe Ikuravya in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State where a middle aged man Iorpuu Deke accompanied by his elder brother Okahumba Deke went to a witch doctor to produce charms that would fortify them against bullets. The witch doctor prepared a concoction for them with a caveat that the the medicine must be accompanied by a validity test which required that the recipient must be shot at almost immediately in order to confirm its potency. It was at this juncture that the elder brother of the deceased was given the task of taking a shot at his sibling to confirm the reliability and efficiency of the concoction prepared for them by the witch doctor. The deceased it was gathered gave his elder brother a single barrel short gun and directed the elder brother to shoot at him in order to confirm the efficacy of their latest acquisition. The experiment led to a fatal result when he was shot at by Okahumba, the bullet shattered him and he died instantly. Residents of the community who spoke to Saturday Vanguard on condition of anonymity noted with disdained the willful wasteage of human live by two young men who set out on their own volition to accomplish an impossible mission. He was quick to point out that the reasons for the dangerous expedition could not be far from the incessant communal clashes in the rural areas of the state that have somewhat taken a different dimension of late. “Why won’t our youths now embark on the quest for extra ordinary protection and powers from strange sources when it has become the order of the day for well armed mercenaries to be engage in communal skirmishes that pervade the rural communities of our state”? He also note, “be rest assured that this could be one among many who have toed this part but maybe others were lucky because they were not as bold as the deceased who only wanted to put to test his latest acquirement all to confirm its potency”. Meanwhile the witch doctor behind the dastardly act and the elder brother of the deceased have been apprehended by men of the Benue State Police Command and have also been arraigned before a Makurdi Chief Magistrate Court for prosecution. They are being charged for conspiracy and the alleged killing of late Iorpuu Deke, though on appearance in court no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction. However, prosecution says that investigation into the matter is still ongoing even as he requested the court for the adjournment of the case pending further investigations. Delivering her ruling the trial Senior Magistrate Mrs. Theresa Wergba ordered the accused persons to be remanded at the Federal Medium Prison in Makurdi and adjourned the case for a later date in the month. The accused persons who were overwhelmed with shock could not alter a word when confronted to speak on why they ventured into the somewhat fatal mission. The witch doctor could only mutter ‘sorry’ before being whisked away by men of the Prison Services. What he meant by that could only be a mater of conjecture because he looked a man completely out of his mind as a result of the shock he has sunken into. source:http://www.vanguardngr.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=16249&Itemid=42 |
Nigeria follows a simple political philosophy: Its not the person who vote that matters, rather its the person who count the vote |
Poor woman, why should she part with her kidney, for a man that is not guaranteed to see next Xmas There is something money cant buy, Mrs Yaradua kidney is one of them |
na wao, just like that , the guys refunded N500 million!!!!!!!!!!! the fear of EFCC/prison, the beginning of wisdom |
you people are underestimating the power of juju. Since its an hunter that found the plane in the first place, the only way to solve mystery is to convene an extra ordinary conference of national association of Nigerian witches/juju/marabout . And plead with them to resolve the issue for national security and stability. |
Jameela sometimes the word that defines the condition of having to repeatedly go over something before assimilation is called "AUTISM"One of my colleague who is deeply involve in charity work take exception and deeply upset with your misuse of the word "autism". He felt the use is degrading to people living with autism and his asking for an apology |
Jameela I watched the video together with some of my colleagues in the office who are involve in PR ( mostly Europeans); the judgement was the guy did well. You must separate the man from the speech, and analyse if he was able to pass his message across within the limit of his personality. Apart from the first question when he stray from the content thanking people who facilitated his visa, it was okay. That as you all are aware is a malaise of the Nigerian system, before you start a speech, you must pay homage to the president, governors and the godfathers. |
What do you mean by all these jargon?Richy tire me ooo!!!!! big grammer without meaning if he is an hausa man l would have forgive him, for a southerner its a disgrace |
If you are a top officer these days in Naija, it's either you are a prayer warrior or a juju warrior otherwise, even pure water go choke you. this juju talk wan tire me ooooooooooooo everything na juju juju juju!!!!!!!!!!! |
