Tribalism has dulled the Nigerian's senses. Why are we so slow? Guys like Dokubo NEED Nigeria the way it is, because they have a formula they can use to eat oil money, and it is working without fail. The guy never really said he doesnt want a united Nigeria. He just want one where his man is in power so he can continue to work his formula. He knows full well that his homeland is rotting away, yet the guys who keep putting pressure on the FG about the delta are SW folks, hundreds of km away. This is why I keep laughing at the integrationists who want to keep Nigeria one.The only non SW'ner I can think of with enough integrity to stand up to the government/PDP was Achebe. Maybe Balarabe Musa and Col Umar too. Have you noticed 99% of the democracy agitators have been from the SW? When it comes time to sacrifice blood and life for democracy, guess where the protests happen. Yup, the SW. The sooner we understand the Nigerian mirage and pull our resources inward, the better. How much further would Awolowo have gone if he quit trying to become president of a dubious experiment and concentrated his political energy locally? Just the free education that lasted a few years has a lasting mark on the SW - look at the prodigious quantity of manpower and generational know-how it has birthed. I hope the new young'ns, the Fasholas, Aregbesola's etc learn from history and understand that charity begins at home. The only people who have any love for Nigeria are SW folk. the rest came to the realization a long time ago that Nigeria is like a big cake to be eaten until only crumbs are left. Yoruba, cut your coat according to your size and stop trying to be everybody's savior (Soyinka, yes Im looking at you) |
I really havent been able to follow the NBA this year. First time watching the Nets - I have never seen such bad coaching. Either that or the players have tuned the coaching staff out. 2 man game every time down the court...smh |
Sky-walker:thats what you said last week. yet ![]() |
shymexx: Sorry for the late reply. It's xmas season and I've been busy.Ah, I see. Paul is using the free born and the born slave as an allegory for being under Christ vs being under the law. If you read the chapter in context, he isnt saying the story of Abraham is false. Otherwise Abraham wouldnt be named in Gal 3:29, a book which Paul wrote too. Take a look at the NIV: 24 These things are being taken figuratively: The women represent two covenants. One covenant is from Mount Sinai and bears children who are to be slaves: This is Hagar. And IMO, one of the more meaningful translations, Darby 24 Which things have an allegorical sense; for these are two covenants: one from mount Sinai, gendering to bondage, which is Hagar. Its pretty obvious he is using Sarah/Hagar offsprings to figuratively represent offspring of Christ, and of the law. Shalom ![]() |
Katsumoto: I like your response but I have one disagreement - the allusion that there can't be evil or something bad in Yoruba. Even Yoruba spirituality states that good and evil exist for the common good of the universe. Hence the saying say "Buburu ati fere ni o nrin po" ("Bad and good things work together"Hard to disagree with you here. My example was to point out will vs ancestry, but yeah, it could be taken too far. Also, I don't subscribe to the notion that some can be more/less Yoruba than others. You either are a Yoruba or you are not. But you can be a good or bad Yoruba. Yoruba history is littered with examples of good and bad Yoruba sons and daughter. Plus you can be both good and bad, just depends on whose point of view.As soon as we codify standards for being Yoruba (or any ethnicity), the notion of some people being less than others always floats around to one degree or another. I think this almost caste-like thinking is strongest whenever parental origin is the only way to become the member of an ethnic group. I dont support it, but I think your option 1 tends to attract a certain type of "patriot" who might consider option 2 inferior for example |
shymexx: In recent years, the idea that Abraham's story is merely a folkore has gained support. Even Apostle Paul also describe the story as a folklore in the Bible.where in the bible did Paul make this assertion? |
isale_gan2: Sweetheart, may our days be filled with joy everlasting.Everlasting joy is a state of the mind. |
shymexx: Why are you focusing on what he did and not who he's? Are there not Yoruba's in Nigeria who were born and raised in Yoruba culture that have done things worse than whatever the guy did? Yes, he was brainwashed and he committed a barbaric act - however, how does that negate his Yoruba-ness?I'm not negating ancestry in any way, just that we cannot use it as an end-all-be-all litmus test. I could compare you and Adebolajo (the beheader) for example. Both of you are British Nigerians, but Adebolajo grew up in Nigeria, even went to secondary school there. By your argument, I could state that Adebolajo has a deeper expression of his "inborn" Yorubaness than you do with his cultural exposure. And yet, here you are, contributing to threads on Yoruba history, while the guy who is supposedly more "inborn" is beheading an innocent man with no remorse. This is the danger of giving ancestry more weight than it is due. Dont get me wrong, having a Yoruba mother/father has its inherent weight, but using this to assume Yorubaness is like thinking every black person you meet in yankee or jand is automatically on your side. Btw when you start talking about inborn, identity, consciousness, you should tread lightly. You had no conscious decision as to what you would be born into. Reminds me of the white supremacist who wanted to build an all-white town. He does a DNA test on a talk show, and finds out he is 14% black. Even though he tried to rubbish it, his fellow supremacists turned on him (this guy reminds me of pagan nja btw )http://www.latimes.com/nation/nationnow/la-na-nn-white-supremacist-dna-20131112,0,7467682.story http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2013/11/21/white-supremacist-dna-test-neo-nazi-north-dakota-town/3661791/ |
A-40:lmao. I havent heard some of these phrases in a while Joe Johnson is permanently on my fantasy bench until I can snag something to replace him |
Katsumoto: I have a question.Being Yoruba has to be about a way of life and set of beliefs more than anything else, even above ancestry. Remember that all humans are essentially the same, and the differences we see are the result of acculturation. Hence you may meet a Yoruba man by ancestry and name who feels more Hausa eg many Ilorin politicians, and you may run into the German woman by ancestry who immigrates to Yoruba land and becomes every bit Yoruba eg Suzanne Wenger. So I think I could rank your options in order of importance, rather than choosing some over the other. My take: 4. Only those who raised in Yoruba spirituality/ Ifa traditional religionTo me, both of these are the same. They both involve wilful action to do what it takes to be Yoruba 1. Someone whose parents are both Yoruba?I place will above "genetic lottery". You have no say about what you get born into, so while birth to Yoruba parents is the standard, I wouldnt go crazy with it. Can we really call the British-Nigerian that beheaded someone in Britain Yoruba? Hard to say - I would even suggest that some Nupe folks are even more Yoruba than he is 2. Someone whose father is Yoruba, mother is non-Yoruba and not raised as YorubaI think even this option leaves things open. You can choose to take your Yoruba side, or not to do so. I doubt most Yoruba gropus would quibble with you over mom/dad issues if you are exhibiting the omoluwabi traits. We are open minded like that. |
A-40:Yeah. Joe Johnson looks like a dinosaur ![]() |
A-40:still very possible |
Mynd_44: Spurs lost.....ehen? seriously, spurs will likely be facing thunder in the WCF. Popovich likes to underplay statement games..no need to let Thunder prepare adequately |
depressionkills: I think that what is at stake here for you are your own beliefs about black masculinity and homosexuality that are being threatened by the realization that one of your heroes may have been gay. I encounter the same fervent denial when I discuss with MLK's fans who refuse to admit that such a religious man was also a womanizer and believe that his documented womanizing ways were fabricated by Edgar Hoover to tarnish King's reputation. We (African minded peoples) dont define people primarily by their sexuality. It may be a big deal for you and "white LGBT" as you put it, but we understand God created man, woman for a purpose, and that purpose doesnt go away even if we fall short. This concept is in christianity as well as the bulk of african religious thought. I'm happy you said "black masculinity" because if that is what this is about, why are you bringing in "white LGBT"? Are you really that brainwashed? We will be defining what we consider to be masculine, thank you. |
KidStranglehold: ^^He has an agenda. You give pagan too much credit... ![]() I think we need to be careful about how we dissect the differences between MLK and Malcolm. The MLK image we have in most media today is not real - its essentially a fairy tale now. While it is true that MLK was for integration, it wasnt an end all be all goal. It had to be strategic. There is no way you were going to fight the greatest power on earth on home soil, and win. The reasonable way out was to allow the inclusion of blacks under existing laws so that when whites fight for their rights, blacks got included automatically. I also think people dont realize how similar MLK and Malcolm were intellectually. Everyone knows Malcom was daring, even ditching the NOI at one point. Few people know that MLK once suggested that book of revelation had no place in the bible. I know how hot that would make preachers today, talkless of back then. Bottomline, I think these guys were far more similar than we realize. In my opinion, they came to the same conclusion at different points in their lifetimes. |
now she has the bank card abi? anger does evil things |
AjanleKoko: Hmm.what kind of prayer is this lol |
I see naija boys pulled out a close one |
if you mean the real wrestlers, eg olympic style, then i'll take a wrestler any day. A boxer wants to hit your head as soon as possible. Protect your head, get him on the ground and its over |
Sky-walker:wow nice! I never clicked that before for some reason. |
how are you guys able to gauge how well you are doing during the week? I see no scores until the end of the week |
Babzilla: THE IDEA BEHIND DRAFTIING PP &KG WAS TO HAVE A KIND OF MATURE CASTfor where? Mature cast? KG looks like an AARP member already. The nets are officially in rebuilding mode. They shrewdly got some big names to make it look like they want to be competitive, but this looks more like a way to get some cap relief in the future |
Sky-walker:no mocking bro. I just need to get to the top. Either of you going down helps my cause lol |
plaetton: I really don't know what you are getting at, but I suspect you are trying to blame most biblical contradiction on the translators.Dont get me wrong, you dont need a concordance to get light from the bible. And you dont need to re-translate everything. I dont know how you came about the multiple deities (I have heard that before), but that is not needed even after a reading of the original texts. I need to be clear on that.We know what the ultimate God's character is - even evil people know. The places where cultural background helps is in texts we instinctively know to be wrong eg Job. I didnt reply directly to the examples Rossikke gave, because it was obvious most of conclusions drawn from his examples were biased to start with. I should be more clear. Out of the 6 or so examples the op gave, most are dishonest arguments. Take this passage for example: In Exodus 13:2 the Lord said "Consecrate to me every first-born that opens the womb among Israelites, both man and beast, for it belongs to me." Later it says that you can redeem (replace) an Bottom with a sheep and that you must redeem a child for an unspecified price. It is clear from the context that "consecrate" means a burning sacrifice. How is it "clear" that you can now "substitute consecrate for sacrifice"? Do you realize that to consecrate the first born was to cut of the foreskin? Why deliberately ignore this and lie outright. This is common knowledge. Did the Israelites fight wars? Yes. And were those wars bloody? Yes, like every other war. But to perform logical 419 on a few texts and declare God, the most High or Yahweh loves burning flesh so much he orders people burnt for that reason is a lie. The only real case I see in the OP was Jephthah. And you know what, at no point did God tell him to do this. In fact, the Israelites were forbidden to offer their children up the way the philistines offered up their children to Molech. Obviously God didnt change his mind. I could go on, but its already obvious Rossike isnt really trying to get any truth here... just trying to stir the waters...notice how he never applies any rigor to his own beliefs. I have no issues with a good strong debate on the Bible, but not when its dishonest. |
ROSSIKE: Can anyone with a working brain address the question pls?lmao. working brain? Arent you the same dude that believes in aliens, NDEs, crystal children etc, many of these things hearsay without any proof? I wanted to take up an explanation of some of these verses and my thoughts on how to rightly divide old testament scripture, but I perceive this really isnt your agenda. So Im not going to waste cycles on it. I hope you apply the same brutal honesty (which is good) to your beliefs. My short suggestions for anyone else browsing this thread with questions is that whenever you see verses that contradict what you know to be the character of the Creator, you should do some study on it. Most of the time, you will find English translators injecting their views of God on the original text, many times dramatically changing the meaning of the text, making God do things he never actually did. The story of Job is a classic example, and till today, most people still believe God brought Job's calamity on him. Remember the original English translators would have seen nothing wrong with their own interpretation, give the tyrannical nature of kings at the time. By the way, some history has it that the spelling of DOG backwards to mean GOD was a deliberate scoff at a purported creator. Wether this is completely true or not, notice that the term God really doesn't have any meaning, unlike say Eledumare or Yahweh etc. So you should put the cultural background (baggage) of the authors in mind, and be especially inquisitive any time you see the term "Most High" used in place of God. |
I jus dey watch. Either naija boys or baby boy will fall this week |
Baba_Eleko: Sorry if you don't understand all of the above but just know there is a deeper internet than google, yahoo, nairaland and all other b ullshit you know. It's called the "Underground Internet". I found out about this "secret internet" just 2 months ago and the way I look at the world and humanity has changed ever since. Technology was suppose to be a blessing but unfortunately I don't know what else would bring mankind to an abrupt end if not the same technology. Sshit is more than words can explain. No be small thing mehn. There is no such thing. A lot of those "underground" servers eg Tor exit points are being run by FBI and other countries law enforcement arms, primarily to entrap big fish.If you are getting away with stuff, its because you aren't big enough to be worth the attention yet. See as silk road and anonymous take chop sand. Don't forget that the internet's backbone routers probably already have some type of hardware assisted snooping. If you shout loud enough, uncle sam will come get you. |
Fashola would fit that perfectly. Plus he can show a little gray hair to give that dignified look. |
