PoliticsRe: Kenya Mall Under Attack From Islamic Terrorists (Pictures) by birdman(m): 7:11am On Sep 22, 2013
ayinba1: It is sad that innocent people have suffered in this heinous act. We muslims do not support the harm done to innocent people by muslims or non muslims. For those wishing ill on Islam and all muslims, it is a shame that you cannot see what Islam preaches versus what some people who are muslims do.

Wishing all muslims dead is not any better than what these people have done. The hatred in your hearts is just a step away from a terror act.
May the good Lord comfort those who have suffered losses on both sides of the crisis, amen.
Both sides of this crises? The other side would be the somali terrorists. You want us to show then empathy too? You know what, do us all a favor and stfu. I really dont want to hear you whining about being misunderstood right now.
PoliticsRe: For Those That Love Nigeria: Beware Of These Dangerous Men! by birdman(m): 6:46pm On Sep 21, 2013
noblezone: My honest answer to your honest question:
No country can live in isolation! There are foreign interests in every country.

So, while Jonathan may likely want to build bridges to China and the USA, Buhari may like to have his bridges to Saudi Arabia and maybe Iran!
Have you ever pondered why (not how) a celebrated Soludo is now a political has-been? His wahala started when he started talking about revaluing the Naira, a supposedly good thing for Nigerians. Except this would be a bad deal for anyone Nigeria owes money. Those bankers made their will known, and now even Soludo's kinsmen are taking him down in his own backyard. In their selfish blindness, they dont even realize they have been setup by foreign interests to cannibalize their own salvation.

My point? If you keep looking at Nigerian events through tribal lenses, you will continually be confounded. Even when you get your Biafra wish, you will still be confounded because the same principle will be used to "Soludo"ize any sensible president you might have.

Which brings me to Buhari. The IMF, World Bank, etc love it when you keeping tribal baiting Buhari. Becasue they know he was the one of two or three presidents that had the backbone to stand up to them and not mortgage the country. While you are playing tribal games, GEJ and Iweala are busy loading us up on loans our grand children will be paying. I will personally vote for Buhari if he runs. I refuse to have a stooge for president just because he is from my side. Every responsible African who has had the fate to be included in the Nigerian project has to do the same.
PoliticsRe: For Those That Love Nigeria: Beware Of These Dangerous Men! by birdman(m): 3:29am On Sep 21, 2013
thoth: I have no teeth left bro. I just wish that the forces that hijacked Nigeria for its selfish gratification would not do the same with Biafra. Looking at what is happening in the east with the leaders we had one can only hope.
keep wishing man. the only reason Nigeria hasnt been sold out completely is because it is heterogenous and large. There are so many conflicting interests internally it is near impossible to perpetrate an agenda for any length of time. As much as I am not a fan of the Nigerian project, it does have this one thing in its favor. Without regional allies, Amaechi would have been toast by now.

honest question for noblezone, et al. Who has been more beholden to foreign interests between GEJ and Buhari?
Foreign AffairsRe: McCain Fires Back At Putin With America's Own Letter To Russians by birdman(m): 8:12am On Sep 20, 2013
Symphony007: amatuerish..how many war has putin started? How much weapons and surface to air missles has putin sent to assad for him to kill his own people? This article is a heavy blow to putin's gut. He thinks he can wake one morning and become a global peacemaker..well. Someone has got to remind him of all the skelentons in his closet.
I doubt it. This works in Putin's favor again. Nobody wants to see their president attacked personally. This will shore up Putin's support in Russia. The only amateur here is McCain. Considering McCain is a veteran, you have to wonder if he is trying to sabotage the peace agreement on purpose.

Btw isnt McCain for Defense of Marriage act? How does he get off criticizing Putin's anti-gay policies. lol

Music/RadioRe: Most Popular Nigerian Musicians Worldwide by birdman(m): 8:33pm On Sep 15, 2013
Katsumoto: Your angle is based on a social construct - Nationality. In anthropology, human classifications is generally based on biological definitions of race such as Lineage, Essentialist, Taxonomic. i.e genes, skin colour, blood lines, genotypes, and stretched to include language, localization of populations to certain regions.

Using social construct, Obama is an American but who really is an American? Are you referring to the voluntary (15th century to present Europeans, and 20th century immigrants from other places) and involuntary (Slaves) immigrants? Or are you referring to the native indigenous people of America? Other than language, what does Obama share culturally, biologically with Americans native to Hawaii, or Caucasians resident in the deep south or Latino Americans? Obama has more in common with the ethnic group of his father in Kenya because that is the most pure bloodline in him. The same goes for Hakeem Seriki (Chamillionaire).

Going by any of the controversial means of classifying humans used by anthropologists, Hakeem Seriki is of the Yoruba Ethnic Group. His nationality may be American but he shares nothing in common with the indigenous ethnic groups of America. Similarly, during the age of colonization, many British sons and daughters were born and raised in Africa and India. Many of these British citizens spent a greater part of their lives in Africa and India, spoke African & Indian ethnic languages but never identified themselves as Africans or Indians.

My point is not to use anthropology to classify them so that they can be claimed as Nigerians; I could care less whether an individual sees himself as a Nigerian, American, or Brit. I use anthropology to classify because that is the only way to classify humans. If your parents are Indians and you spend all your life in Britain, you are still an Indian although you may be a British citizen and feel culturally British. If you raise African elephants in a Chinese zoo, do they become Chinese Elephants?
chinese elephants cheesy. Good and valid points.... but my reading of the OP's post is popular musicians who give us a sense of pride by being Nigerians. This by definition has to be a social construct as you pointed out. Based on that line of thought, I as a card carrying Nigerian have a sense of national pride when I see an Nneka or Asa performing at a concert. I might like Seal and Chamillionaire, but there is no "naija" connect there. So yes, you are right that they are Nigerians by lineage, but socially, you might as well be talking to a door if you bring up Nigerian stuff.

Iguodala refused to play for the national team because as he said, he honestly had no connection to his father's country. Same goes with a host of others. Nothing wrong with that, but associating with your homeland ought to be a thing of pride, not stuff we conscript people into.

Music/RadioRe: Most Popular Nigerian Musicians Worldwide by birdman(m): 3:58am On Sep 15, 2013
Katsumoto: You aren't making sense. Place of Birth has no influence on origin. You are from where ever your father is from. Or where your mother is from if both your parents are from a matriarchal society.

And Chamilliionaire is from Ibadan. Don't let pride stop you from using simple logic.
Lmao. No, he is not. And he doesn't give a damn about Ibadan either. And if you ever met him, you would realize how ridiculous it is to classify him as one. If we follow your logic, Obama is kenyan. We all know he may have is roots there, but he is anything but Kenyan.

I'll be frank - being labeled a Nigerian is a distraction to some musician's careers. Lets celebrate the artistes who have enough balls and savvy to put their nationality out there. eg. Nneka and stop trying to conscript guys who dont give a f' about it.

Any list of real Nigerian musicians must include:

Fela
Nneka
DBanj
Tuface
PSquare
heck, even Dr. Alban

steve_cantrell: Obama, the ultimate Manchurian Candiddate.
Not quite. More likely, he has been "made an offer he cant refuse". He got into power and the kingmakers made themselves known to him. This IS a trap that is supposed to kill two birds with one stone. Get the black president to use his charm to draw the country into a needless war, and at the same time set him up as the fall guy so the Republicans can pounce and rip him to shreds. This would tie up the 8 year "Obama affair" in a neat little bow, as there is always the risk Obama hasnt lost his conscience, and he may start talking after his presidency. I'm not an Obama fan, but the dude needs some prayers right about now

Then again, he keeps quoting Reagan, so maybe you are right undecided

Christianity EtcRe: How Do Atheists Explain Miracles? by birdman(m): 4:56am On Sep 09, 2013
Uyi Iredia: Let's grant that the video is legit. The fact remains that certain miracles such as ressurection and amputee healing, especially the latter, should be as common given the promises of God in the NT as regards healing. Not that miracles would convert all atheists, but it should shut the mouths of some for awhile. Now where is a documented amputee healing. Not the one 17th centurty (or so) story brought up by Perry Marshall.
Well, once you accept one instance as legit, its a different ballgame. The question is no longer, "can it happen"? Its, what are the conditions or laws that allowed the previous occurrence, so that we can replicate it. I think this is huge in the whole issue. Because once you accept one event as being legit, it becomes easier to be an atheist than a person of faith. In other words, the burden of proof tilts massively in favor of faith. We know it has happened before, so its now a scientific quest to figure out how to do it again. The atheist on the other hand would be like the horse rider who refuses to believe in planes because he has seen only one person fly one successfully ever, many years ago.

Thanks for this vid. I have actually seen this this guy before, and I agree with him. The leg stretching indeed can be faked. Which is why I posted the above video. Note several things from my original Hagin video.

The debunker believes you can simulate this miracle by altering the viewer's perspective by swinging the legs and pulling the shoe off slightly. In the video I posted, the perspective is even across 4 cases, there is no leg swinging. This leaves the shoes.

Watch the relative distances between the shoes, the ankle and the knee, not just to themselves, but to background objects. To get a solid frame of reference, I chose one of the observers, as well as an inanimate object. This video is not blurry like the one by Allen, so not only would you catch shoe pulling, you would detect an attempt to fool your perspective. Of it was only one subject, I could pass this off as a really good trick. But we have 4, male, female and child. Unless Hagin was able to find 4 humans who could extend their hips by inches at will, the Hagin video is legit. Or at the very least, it passes the smell test put forward by James Randi.

So again, can anyone explain or debunk the Hagin video? Btw I have nothing against atheists, if anything I respect people who are bold enough to question everything. But I am curious as to what a nairaland atheist would do with evidence as in the Hagin video? (I already know what James Randi would do smiley

AjanleKoko: Hmm.
You have a good point.
Though, I think the coding spectrum extends across a wide range, from basic macro development and SQL statements, to industrial-strength applications.

IMO, every professional needs to have at least an above-average appreciation of IT tools. You can make a whole lot of difference, and save your company thousands of dollars otherwise spent on IT consultants, if you're able to do a fair bit of data analysis using Excel or Access, or automate a few processes using VBA macros.

These days, even specialist applications like AutoCAD provide programming extensions and APIs that professionals can use to extend the functionality of those tools.
True enough. Coding is a very wide range and even a little coding knowledge makes it easy to use APIs. If I were choosing a course for these MBAs, I'd go for Python hands down though. Running the gamut from C to PHP is guaranteed to confuse more than help in the long run.

My judgement: as long as it's directly relevant to your field, additional IT skills will always serve you (and your organization) well.
relevance and MBAs in the same paragraph. sighs.

AjanleKoko: Some related gist:

Should MBAs learn to code?
The thought of an MBA reviewing my code just makes me shiver. It takes 5-6 years of experience and continuous improvement to write competent, high-end code. I can see how a thorough programming course can help manage developers and schedules better, but I'd be wary about throwing an MBA onto any serious project. I wouldn't even let an MBA hire coders - you simply dont know what to look for, and will end up relying on keywords, which almost always get you the wrong guy.

End of story. It is ridiculous to go to someone else's country and try to convince them to like you. It is not your right to be liked. If they dont, and you have some self respect, leave. And if you can, get the FG to retaliate diplomatically. If you arent in a position to do either, accept your fate. Anyone who knows how virulently racist Malaysians can be knows better than to spend a lifetime trying to convince people to respect you. Nobody gets respect by begging. Get you degree and move on.
FamilyRe: Old Age....what Is Your Worst Fear? by birdman(m): 1:23am On Aug 30, 2013
Royal Roy: You have a point chicken birdman, but in reality, you only conquer your fears when you stop fearing your fears.
In other words, when you realise you dont want to go down in a certain way, you wl be more conscious of how you live your life at the moment.
Most of these things, there is nothing we can do about it, but realise that you can live ur life in a way that makes life easy on you at the wee hours!!
Stop fearing your fears...lol. Proactively working against a possibility is not fear. Thats wisdom. What the OP asked for was your worst fear. This is by definition stuff you have a foreboding about, even if you have no present evidence that it will happen. There is nothing healthy about fear. The more you meditatae on such things, the more your sub-conscious directs your life in that direction.

CareerRe: Why The Education You Received Might Fail You by birdman(m): 2:42am On Aug 27, 2013
FOLYKAZE: It is obvious that Nigerians read to pass exam and not to acquire knowledge and/or go to school to secure a certificate that will provide them white collar job but aint ready to constructively contribute to the development of their society.

The Op made a great point I really agree with. Most Nigerians went to school but were taught about the western curriculum....even the so called studies about us are what the western directly raised about us. Imagine a society where almost everybody living in it does not know their history again. Imagine those reading their history are reading fabricated lies from the western invaders record. Imagine African philosophy dying faster than expected. Imagine a society where f9 in yoruba doesn't count at all. Imagine a society where almost everybody cant speak their mother's tongue fluently or write it correctly without error. They will curse it and call it local.....by bringing up european english as the supreme language. Imagine a society where people are angry because a governor wanted to build tradition and destroy white supremacy mentality by introducing compulsory Ifa study in school curriculum. Imagine how tradition is dying slowly because of foreign religion.

African can only be save by Africans. The education at present is just a piece of trash. We can only develop if we build on our history, philosophy and system. We should go back to our root and build it. China does this and they succeeded. Japan did this and they success. The westerners has nothing to give us that will contribute to our growth positively.....they are not ready to change our course for growth. Our destiny is in our hand. We need to move for the change or we will sell the coming generation into another slavery.......physically, mentally, economically, politically and socially. The change is in us
knee jerk reaction is to complain about everything. Some Nigerians are receiving this "inferior" education, then go abroad and turn to superstars among their peers from countries the world over. The education definitely isnt great, but we have to remember we arent operating in a vacuum. Maybe its years of SAP or military rule, but Nigerians have generally become folk that want to do little and make a lot, AKA professional 419ers. I really dont see how a 4 year tertiary education can reverse this culture even if it wanted to.

Speaking of F9 in Yoruba. If I had one, I wouldnt care. Who wants to sit down and cram aferigi fete pe, afahon pe and other pieces of useless nonsensical information
