ProgrammingRe: Software Programming by birdman(m): 10:09pm On Dec 22, 2013
Start by looking for open source projects using C++ to see how its actually used in practice. Once you get comfortable with the project design and aims, try submitting a few patches to the community so they can critique it and sharpen up your skills. I suspect that you will find the actual use of C++ in practice looks like incantations, not the examples you may have seen so far

Beware - C++ is not Python or one of the newer generation languages. Python, Ruby etc are powerful for developing applications. C++ is powerful for systems programming, developing frameworks and writing languages like Python. Based on your last post, you should probably pick up Python instead. Even very experienced C programmers avoid C++ and jump to Python.

Using C++ for most user applications is like trying to use a chainsaw to slice bread. you will make a mess of things. Even the experienced cats do. C++ is too much raw power for most real life app development. Python lets you concentrate on on developing a powerful app in weeks, instead of spending nights chasing memory leaks from copy constructors.

In short. Start with Python. You will probably never go back

Freakin bully! His move on Scola was sick tho
James+Wade and Chalmers have always had this little brother big brother thing going on. I guess Chalmers decided it was time to speak back. I dont see James move there as bullying - thats exactly how it happens on the courts anywhere. Good thing he apologized though, before the "queen james bandwagon" finds something else to comfort themselves with.

I like how Chalmers stayed in Lebron's ear - classic nagging wife pose grin

RandomAfricanAm: Now a better conversation would be why do we go to school for things which we have not the infrastructure to support? Be it on the continent or in the diaspora you see people trying to walk before they crawl. People in the diaspora Spending money on stupid flashy status symbols instead of using it to open a grocery store, bank, or buy/pay off your home. People on the continent with flashing cell phones and tvs and can't keep the electricity on 48 hours.
Cell phones are not just a status symbol. For communities where there were no land lines, this infrastructure cost can now be skipped, and many people are able to do business and communicate at much lower costs. The benefits of this technology generation jump is well known to those who actually research the continent. Google high speed internet by air is one project piggybacking on this concept. There are grocery stores, banks etc that have stayed afloat precisely because of cell phone availability

Why the hell would that "Nigerian who became a star neurosurgeon" go to school in a field that his/her country has not the infrastructure to support? If they wanted to do medicine primary care, nursing, and pharmacology would be the focus until you have the infrastructure to support "specialty medicine".
Why would YOU go to school to become a neurosurgeon, when your communities (that you highlighted) are better suited for agriculture. Last I checked, many dont even have past basic hospitals. To carry your logic even further, why study to become an astronaut when being an entertainer is the most visible sign of success. See how dumb you sound? Do you realize that there are many traveling neurosurgeons who go back and forth on continents practising for free many times? The Nigerian surgeon may not be resident, but at least he can be called upon for goodwill missions occasionally.

If we followed your crappy logic, we wouldn't have a satellite with locally staffed scientist passing down technological know how. Neither would Kenya have an IT hub that is becoming a hotspot on the continent. Your views, to put it mildly, are nonsensical. They are the kind of policies an idi amin would make, because that is the only thing that makes sense to his simple mind.

Diaspora & continent with a** backward priorities wasting great talent angry
Lol! See pot calling kettle black. Put the skunk weed down brah.

RandomAfricanAm: Just to make it absolutely plain the position of Malcolm to be separate from Europeans and have/manage our own etc etc
Was already largely achieved by lots of African Americans in the south. As such his vision held less meaning to southern African Americans. Because just like Haiti and other African countries they experienced that when you have "your own", Europeans uses economic & military means to control or manipulate that space.
Very true. But then, I wonder...do you really own what you are unable to protect? Black wall street is still history after is was brutally taken down. Perhaps Malcolm's message is more relevant to the south than you realize

Southern African Americans already had/ currently have what Malcolm envisioned they were/ currently are trying to solidify control over it. The problem today is similar to other African peoples which is brain drain.

(Graduates leaving to maintain other peoples cities in exchange for a shiny home & night life instead of building their own, back home)

**It was/is not an ether/or proposition it's an order of execution issue**
No young talent or graduate is going to miss a chance at expanded potential in the big city, even if it ends up being a mirage. What 23 year old graduate wants to risk becoming the 43 year old man with no future in a nameless small town.

The brain drain argument was also echoed by Fashola recently. They forget that the Nigerian who became a star neurosurgeon in the US would be a store clerk at some nameless company had he stayed behind.

The brain drain is the result, not the cause

Christianity EtcRe: Is It Right To Judge Men Of God? by birdman(m): 5:10pm On Dec 22, 2013
It is possible to judge a "man of God" (MOG) and not sin. When you choose to affiliate with one ministry over another, you have already judged that ministry and the man behind it. There is nothing wrong with that. Its called discernment.

To paraphrase Paul, even if the motives are not pure, they preach Christ. If the fruit of the tree is good, leave the personal issues the MOG may have to God. And if the fruit is bad, ask for wisdom on how to raise the alarm instead of attacking the MOG personally. When you attack without love, you may unwittingly be working against God's plan - God's plan can involve even a disobedient MOG.

There are many questionable MOGs I can name, but you cant deny some people have been blessed by those ministries. I'm not going to support or give blindly into those ministries, but I'm not going to scuttle the good work God may be doing there either.

PoliticsRe: Sanusi's Letter Is The Biggest Lie In Nigerian History by birdman(m): 2:13am On Dec 16, 2013
I am no budget expert, but I suspect the missing funds wont have any effect until the next budget, which will be the end of 2014 to 2015 timeframe. The FG has disputed that the money is missing. But the interesting thing is I haven't heard any official channel suggest that $65biillon of crude was a ridiculous number. This makes me think under-reporting has been going on for years, and we have in fact been making more on crude than the FG lets on. Most likely, it is the scale and brashness of the theft that may have put GEJ in trouble here.

eGuerrilla: Thankfully, the Presidency has now ordered this - Unremitted $49.8b: Presidency orders meeting of Finance Ministry, NNPC, CBN today
Nobody diverts that kind of money without the man at the top knowing what is going on. This is just a show to calm tensions.

The next question is, what were they planning to use that money for? Probably for GEJ's war chest for 2015 elections. Maybe to even sponsor a milita or two to keep the country hot. Obasanjo already alluded to this in his letter. And its a good enough reason for Sanusi to risk his neck (If Azazi can die in an accident after talking about BH, everybody is fair game)

In truth, making sacrifices makes one appear like a fool(or close) in the eyes of the world. If he could be bold enough to take this step, he would be ready enough to secure the paternal future of the child, at least till he's older, with a legal backing. Nigeria isn't that old Nollywood anymore. Finally, I hope you know Mandela was offered freedom at intervals while he was in jail, but he refused, while the blacks he was fighting for roamed free, some even supporting their white oppressors.
Real love is not foolish. The sensible thing to ask her first is , who is the father? Lets see what the real father thinks or is willing to do. THEN, he can say wether or not if he wants to continue the relationship. Here, the guy blindly agrees to continue the relationship, even though he doesnt know who the real father is. For all you know, the impregnator still wants his girl. In fact, if he is African, the sight of another man taking care of his baby might be enough to make him kill the OP. But the OP is oblivious to all this. Anyways, fools die easy.

Reading through this thread, I'll say the mindset of most Nigerian youths (male especially) is despicable. What happened to 'Honour' and 'Integrity' in relationships?? What happened to making 'Sacrifices' in relationships?? You all must realize that what is good remains good, no matter how twisted the world has become. If Mandela was this greedy about his personal gains and wellbeing, eradicating apartheid would definitely not be his plot. We must change!
sacrificing doesnt mean being a fool. what is the op going to do when the real father of the child shows up 5, 15 years down the line and demands his right, assuming there was a real child. If Mandela was a mumu like this he would still be a nobody

Loool I don't know why the Knicks have not traded Melo! Now I'm not going to blame Melo for anything unlike Amare,JR and some of the others he has actually busted his butt for this team the only issue is the Knicks are not winning jack with him its pretty simple Melo is not that MJ,Kobe,Lebron,Nowitzki kinda guy that can legit carry a team on his back
alrighty then. lets see how this is going to unfold. a few more losses and Melo will start singing

Can u shed more light on that please......#melo-cancer on d team......how's that possible

Meanwhile----thunder fires past pacers!
When Lebron left for Miami, he created a big splash, and people started talking about other free agents like Howard and CP3 all day everyday. Guess what? Melo wanted some attention too, so much so that he wanted out of a formidable Denver team. He was the unquestioned franchise player, well paid, allowed to do whatever on the court with a formidable young team that was going to get better. It wasnt enough.

If you think this was a fluke, just this summer, Melo said he wanted to test free agency, just to see what it felt like. Despite being the franchise player of a storied franchise, a legit ECF contender (Chandler want injured yet this summer), money etc. ..He still couldnt resist polluting team chemistry again.

Both in Denver and now NYC, his teammates took notice. When your franchise player is thinking about checking out, even if its just a thought, its time to start looking out for your own career. That is what has happened to knicks. They have checked out mentally, like the Nuggets did. Which is why, like George Karl, a good coach like Woodson cant do jack. He cant accuse any knick player of not giving 100%. Its easy to slack off while looking like you are giving it your all.

Im a Melo fan, but its obvious he has some female type attention issues.
