Christianity EtcRe: Why Are Some Churches(christians) Praying Holyghost Fire On Their Enemies? by birdman(m): 3:58am On Oct 26, 2013
Alwaystrue: It is because God knows the end from the beginning. He does these things to make us continually trust, love and believe Him more. A problem for some is an avenue to show innovation for others. It is a thing of perception.

On the issue of the pleading the blood. I believe that the blood has been shed for us and our mouths are like the 'hyssop' used to apply it because we overcome the devil by the blood of the Lamb and the word of our testimony. This is continuous.
The blood of Jesus speaks better things (mercy) than the blood of Esau (vengeance). So it is possible that when a saint has fallen, he pleads the blood for mercy and seeks grace to help him turn away and continually do right.
The blood of Jesus is the price used to purchase a person from destruction/penalty, we continually confess to salvation.
people generally "plead the blood" the way you would apply a talisman. this is an interesting take that makes sense to me

good people make bad mistakes. it really is that simple.People over theologize this issue and end up in error, accusing God of what he doesnt have a hand in.

shymexx: Hotep, brother.

I noticed you kind of took an indirect swipe at me, yes? tongue I thought we're cool peeps in black consciousness and the teachings of the grand master teacher, Dr. John Henrik Clarke (R.I.P) - what happened? Regardless of our differences - we'll be always be cool. grin
I took several swipes actually tongue . but yeah, its a forum and we all are just throwing ideas out there, which is a good thing. I admit I could have been more "diplomatic" grin

Also, I don't think people from that part of Yorubaland operate within the realm of Yoruba consciousness like other Yoruba's do. I can cite Jarus and all the other posters from that part of Yorubaland on nl.
I had a back-and-forth with Jarus on this same issue in the past. I will admit I have run into Ilorin Yoruba who are culturally Northern. No offense to Jarus, but in every case you could tell there had been some sort of foreign mind transplant, kind of like black latinos who will rather identify with white latinos against african americans even though they are constantly at the bottom of the ladder.

In any case though, the overwhelming population is Yoruba. If there is any concern about them, it would be that their being muslim makes them tolerate hausa/fulani bullsh*t when they should not. But you could make the same arguments for Yoruba christians and the west.

We cannot build a true nation without a strong moral foundation. If we dismiss our brothers without a fair shot, we introduce the seed of division that will eventually consume us. In a free, fair referendum, Ilorin is solidly southwest.

CyberG: Now, I should mention that consideration about "what they bring to the table" should be jettisoned quickly and deleted from the minds of the Yorubas because this is the BIGGEST problem of Nigeria now because it points to nothing but MATERIALISM which has bred corruption and everything else is an attempt to continue gaining more "materialism" be it tribalism or playing the religion card, etc. The Yorubas while rich, are NOT about materialism, primitive acquisition, etc because you can have everything and no one will ever reckon with you - a good name is better than silver and gold!
I think CyberG put it better than I could. Lets not allow political and economic convenience to trump values.
Christianity EtcRe: Why Are Some Churches(christians) Praying Holyghost Fire On Their Enemies? by birdman(m): 2:31am On Oct 25, 2013
Alwaystrue: 1. Joseph was sold to His glory
2. The Egyptians were used to display God's glory
3. The Lord prepares a table for us in the presence of our enemies
4. Turned the counsel of Ahitophel to favour the glory of Modecai
5. Even the devil used humans to kill the body of Jesus and had he known ha!, and so many other cases.
I always find it amazing how these things work out. There is wisdom, and then theres Wisdom

if what u've just said is a good natured yabis,.. then no problem
but if u're serious...
what does Patience have to do with this?
I am serious. I get the impression he is not quite able to control her, even when she is causing him obvious embarrassment. There have been situations where if she had just kept a low profile for a bit and let things blow by, would not have become so inflamed. Add then there's the continued interference with perm secs and DGs. I dont know about you, but an elected president not being able to reign in his wife rubs me the wrong way.
PoliticsRe: Longing For A 'strong Man' In Nigeria by birdman(m): 5:18am On Oct 22, 2013
Patience has probably contributed to this in no small amount. A man who appears to have no control over his own house is an eye sore anywhere. Eyes get red when that guy is your presido

dr dams: Interacting with yorubas outside d country is d real world Yoruba?
If you were keen and unbaised while reading many of the constructive posts so far, you will realize that they arent just speaking based on what they read in their archive.
Since u know the 'real world Yoruba', why not spit the preface out?
Your contributions are highly welcomed unless you arent Yoruba cos we are never economical when it comes to intellectual matters.

I want to bring it to your notice that you can never find any thread as rich as this in terms of historical analyses in issues involving other Nigerian tribes.
Its only obtainable in threads involving us.

You should @ least appreciate this and stop acting like a Super Man or 'Know it all'.
of course I'm enjoying the knowledge being dropped on this thread by omonnakoda, kats and a few others. Lets not forget what this thread started out as though - a discussion about Kwara, and how the SNC can help resolve ethnic issues in the state. But lets face it, a good majority of the guys talking on this thread obviously have no idea of the Yoruba they talk about. Its as if they think reading online papers and googling is a substitute for understanding the spirit of the Yoruba. Some are already even counting their chickens before it has hatched, delineating who is main Yoruba, what city gets to do what etc. Others have have already ceded Ilorin, a border post of sorts without a fight - I wonder what or who they will be compromising on next. Someone misinformed this people about their heritage otherwise they would never talk like this - even on an online forum.

My 2 cents as a non Ilorin man who spent a good deal of time there, a decade plus. There are parts of kwara that definitely would never identify themselves as Yoruba. But Ilorin is not one of them. If anything, the subversive nature of the Yoruba in Ilorin, and how they have managed to hold on to political power and resources evn with successive military dictators (IBB, Abacha) tipping the scale in favor of the Hausa is a source of fear for the hausa oligarchs. Even Saraki turned out to be a yoruba embed, and came close to getting the nod for northern candidate for president. I remember one prominent northern elder cussing Saraki generously. The fact that they had been played for so long struck a deep nerve.

Back to lurks mode...

Olugbenger: It still baffles me why jarus had to view this thread and leave without making a post.
i'm not sure of what this says about those from kwara.
We are probably amused at the continued implied equivalence of Ilorin to Kwara. At least we know most of the guys on this thread have no idea what they are talking about. Plus its very interesting (and eye opening) to see historical armchair generals, most of whom have obviously very little real world experience of Yoruba culture outside their immediate clan posit with certainty on the history and future of the Yoruba. As someone who has interacted extensively with Yoruba in countries outside Nigeria (and dream of some sort of political union in the future, however loose), I can say with authority that most of you need to put down the books and go experience what it really means to be Yoruba. I hail o tongue
Christianity EtcRe: Pls I Need A True Bornagain Christian To Tell Me What Lev:19:19b Means by birdman(m): 4:05pm On Oct 20, 2013
bizmahn: This post nicely buttresses my point.Highyo do not let anyone confuse you into believing that all the law contents have been abolished & as such new testament believers are relieved of all moral responsibilities once in christ.Ask yourself why didn't our dear Lord & his disciples engage in observing the animal sacrifices & and some of the elaborate odd requirements in the old testament? Its because they've been done away with but everyone knows the hallmark of what they lived & preached all through the new testament was sinless righteousness which is morality & is of the moral law.
Just so you know. If you decide to keep one of the law, you MUST keep all of them. No exceptions. Good luck with that.

These moral laws requiring sinless righteousness was so important to Christ that in matt.5:21-48, our Lord showed clearly that they've not been abolished but rather He has even enhanced their intensity to the extent that anger is now as good as murder, lust is as good as adultery etc.So do not be decieved.Do not put on yourself what the Lord,His apostles & discibles did not put on themselves & do not yield to erronous counsels to forsake the whole laws altogether else we can also treat "do not kill" as abolished.
You missed verse 17: Think not that I am come to make void the law or the prophets; I am not come to make void, but to fulfil

He then goes on to reveal the extent to which you must go if you want to fulfill those laws yourselves, if you decide not to rely on Christ fulfilling the law for you. If your right eye might see some evil pics on nairaland, you should preemptively pluck it out etc. Remember how angry you were at Seun when Afam became a mod? You should quit nairaland so you dont have that opportunity to sin again. etc...

If nothing else, Jesus clues the "slow" people in at the end of the chapter about the impossibility of fulfilling the law:

verse 48: Be *ye* therefore perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect Hopefully you have enough sense to know you cant do this.

Mark Miwerds: just saw a disturbing video of that lying money hungry Oyedepo slapping a young woman in one of his services. And the congregation applauses such actions? Amazing! Deceived and being deceived they are.
There is no need to abuse the man. It is possible to be led of God and not have all your doctrine in order - after all he is human. Blame the Christians who refuse to apply the Berean test to what they hear. Like the Bible says, the Spirit (not Oyedepo) teaches you all things. Oyedepo is supposed to be confirmation to what you receive by study, not the other way round.
BusinessRe: How Can I Transfer Money To People In Nigeria Without Using Western Union? by birdman(m): 6:13pm On Oct 06, 2013
thoth: Use a Bank transfer. You can open a domiciliary account at a bank at your country of residence and have a relation in Nigeria create a Domiciliary account . many banks charges about 0.5% of the total amount and there is usually no charge at the receiving end.
seconding this. several new generation banks are very good with this and wont charge your recipient. The only charge will usually be the 30 bucks you pay at your original bank for starting the transfer

I agree with him in some ways but his overall attitude of hate and even not accepting his lineage is not unique to him only.

If there was repatriation we would be able to sift out bad seeds lol so some of "them" will find their way among the bunch...trust me.

So, immediate integration is unlikely. I'm just keeping it real.
I know several people like this, but honestly, most of the times I find the anger is a front for repressed emotions. Anytime I see folk like Seti, I chuckle. To most people he looks like this strong militant wise brother. To me, its obvious he is masking frustration with anger. If one or two African countries get their act right, and are respected as equals among nations, you will be surprised how many blacks will suddenly embrace their African heritage.

Foreign AffairsRe: The U.S. Government Has Officially Shutdown!! by birdman(m): 7:04am On Oct 02, 2013
Travelista: Shutting down an economy because of healthcare seems evil (and it is, no matter how you slice it) but it may ultimately be an issue of self-preservation on the part of the politicians. Has anyone thought of one of the side affects of federally mandated healthcare being that voter registration skyrockets? Remember by law, government agencies must provide voter registration services. When was the last time you renewed your license, passport or filled out a government form that dealt with any service and WEREN'T offered the chance to register? Which could spell disaster for those that disenfranchise voters.
They are not shutting down because of Obamacare. It has already been judged good by the supreme court and voted in by congress, and ordinary citizens are already signing up for it. Even McCain has admitted there is no way to stop this law. In fact if Obama tried to repeal it, there would be protests from lots of poor, indebted Americans (black and white) with medical conditions whose previous fate was to either die without access to necessary medicine (can you imagine that, in a trillion dollar economy) or wait for emergency room care which is usually too late. The ultimate issue is Obama is an uppitty black negro, and the Republicans want to ruin his legacy, even if they take the country down in the process.

There are lots of people whose world view has been shattered by the fact that a black man can rule over them. Lots of these people even claim to be christians, speak in tongues, etc. But apparently, even an erudite, professorial and calm black Obama is enough to bring the demons out. If there is anything good that can come of this, its that black men especially will wake up and smell the tea leaves. I can dream right undecided

noblezone: Are you by any means blaming me for Nigeria ethnic and religious problems?
And perhaps you are among the conspiracy theorists, who believe the whiteman is responsible for whatever goes wrong here?
The whiteman is not God, There is nothing he can do to us past what we have agreed to let him get away with. So there is no need for a conspiracy theory.

All I know is that if Buhari were to had won the last election, there wont be violence in the North, but there will be in the Niger Delta!
Very true. But its not for the reason you think. The Niger delta militants for example were being used by PDP during OBJ's reign as a way to make extra cash for PDP operations. This has been confirmed by several intelligence sources, long before it became open knowledge. Is
OBJ a delta man? In fact wasn't he responsible for Odi? So you cannot divide these issues neatly into ethnic agendas.

Take BH as another example. How did a ragtag group suddenly turn into a legit fighting force needing combined army/civilian response? Azazi clearly said the sponsors of BH are in GEJ's government. Obviously the man felt GEJ wasnt listening to him and decided to go public with it before his death. Tell me, what has GEJ done with that knowledge. Again, if you look at stuff along ethnic lines, Nigeria will confuse you.
