PoliticsRe: Africans Need To Stop Being So Selfish Or You Will Be Exterminated by birdman(m): 12:22am On Nov 18, 2013
dasparrow: I am currently in Nigeria trying to complete service year. I can tell you that it has been a huge relief not having to deal with racism ever since I came back or having to deal with americans harassing me because of my African name or accent. After having to experience that for the past over 16 years between europe and USA, it feels good not having to experience that again for now. Now I am torn whether to go back to racist USA after service year or stay back. Truth is, I really don't feel like going back there because now that I have tasted what it feels like again living amongst fellow black people like myself, I don't want to expose myself to racism again. However, the electricity issue in Nigeria is driving me nuts especially because Nigerian weather is so hot and not having constant electricity causes discomfort and unnecessary hardship. I just don't know anymore Igbo2011. Anyways, nice thread, great topic.
what does the one year service buy you...hang in there

You said they were peaking too early but I listed all their flaws for you. So your argument is lost on me. A team at its peak should have no flaws so if you think they are peaking then where did the flaws come from?
A streak counts for little! At any point of the season! A key injury an opponent that matches up well with you can send all hopes down the toilet!

If Lebron tears his knee the Heat are done
If Parker gets injured the Spurs are done
If Westbrook or Durant get injured the Thunder are done (we saw this last season)
Bros calm down, Its not the end of the world. George might still be able to hand with Lebron in a few seasons cheesy
PoliticsRe: Activists Protest Fashola's Presence At Baba Omojola's Burial by birdman(m): 6:43pm On Nov 17, 2013
There are lots of alaiyes AKA "activists" who expected Fashola to share some LASG loot with them as usual. Most are still b**t-hurt because of the way Fashola dismissed them. Honesty is not always popular, and that is ok. The real stakeholders of Lagos, including its its royal fathers (not some yeye activist) appreciate what good and open governance has done for Lagos state.

azeezhy: I am particularly happy about this report because this is an evidence of how dignified the yoruba tribe is. Atleast, we are not one to rally around our sister or brother simply because she id of our tribe.
Normally, yes. In this case no. There are lots of old school politicians that are still besides themselves that they cannot summon the governor as they please. Even the folks at this activist's house already gave themselves away by their words. Their main grouse is not about Fashola's performance or honesty. Its that they felt neglected in the equation.

Hehehe see Captain Obvious! Who said the Pacers would not lose? I even pointed out their weaknesses when you claimed they were peaking so your point is still a mystery. They are also on the 2nd leg of back to back road games its not unexpected that they could have lost

Beasley looking like a valuable pickup for the Bulls while the Nets can't stop losing

Mavs are 6-4 yet to beat a big team tho so I can't place a read on em
Its not that they lost. Its how they lost. This wasnt an 8-0 team. They ran up the score towards the end and made it look respectable. Now if this 8-0 streak was towards the end of the season, it would have been legit - the only teams in the league that should be comfortable streaking right now would be spurs, thunder, heat. it is meaningless for any other team
SportsRe: The NBA Begins by birdman(m): 6:13am On Nov 17, 2013
See how the Pacers lost? Thats what I meant by win streaks hiding your bad habits. When a good team that means you finally gets to you, you lose bad. Pacers didnt look like an unbeaten team tonight.

AjanleKoko: With around 2.6 billion Asians, how is the planet overwhelmingly majority black? huh
Shoulda said overwhelmingly non-white. Anyone trying to perpetrate genocide of some sort would probably lump us all together (one drop rule). But yeah, there is a difference at least from our point of view.

Still, in addition to Africans shipped to the Americas, there are the aboriginals pretty much everywhere else, including India, Australia etc. Large enough to chart our own path should we decide to do so

Onlytruth: OP, no doubt you have some solid points, BUT please I beg you in the name of God to change your username to something else that has nothing to do with Igbo.

But a lot of the stuff you wrote does make sense
.
To be honest, I wonder why the whiteys haven't deleted us from the planet. Can't possibly be hard, we even need the IITA to help us grow good crops. Maybe a 200-year project max, but it can be done. Assimilate the smart ones, and delete the worst.
Must be some level of humanity and scruples preventing whitey from doing it. Cos, if it were me, I would prolly do it grin
200 years is too short. You would take notice and whip yourself into shape. For now, the planet is overwhelmingly majority black, so anyone doing it has to be much more stealthy. But we are getting there. By the way, assimilation in not an option (sorry, all Dalek fans). If you are left loose to reproduce, you will eventually darken the gene pool again with your yeye melanin.

I keep thinking this is one of the reason for the mad race to unravel the secrets of genes. There are lots of fiendish things you can do once you are able to create race-specific pathogens and processes. Its a matter of time, plus a rogue scientist. O come soon, white Jesus.

You seem to be carried away by the 8-0 record and not the circumstances surrounding the wins.

They've won about half of those games without their starting PG

Came from deficits on some of these games

Inconsistent bench play

Granger is still out

And yeah not scoring up to a 100pts in 8 games is enough reason to assume they are yet to peak
Granger may even be a hindrance at this point . I think he is valuable, but I get the vibe the coaching staff feel they can do without him. I think the <100ppg is a matter of style not firepower

kliq: Shows they are a balanced team both offensively and defensively, they are averaging just 94.9pts per game which ranks 21st on the list of total average PPG for each team stats.
The point is they top the league with 94.9pts PPG because they concede fewer PPG(good defense)
But can they keep this pace up all season? I doubt it. You actually want to have a good but not perfect record before the all star break so you can work out weaknesses. Long winning streaks are notorious for hiding glaring issues. Those issues get will exposed big time come playoffs.

Anyways the season is still really young - im sure the streak will end before 15

igbo2011: We need to change our mindset. We need to have self love first. Value our image. Religion, media and education will do a great role in our mind liberating. Here is something a wrote last year about this topic.

The three main things are religion, media, and history.
1. Religion:
2. Media
3. History
On point. If I were going to choose a starting point, I would use history. History is sneaky. If you learn enough about yourself, your self image improves and other things start to follow. If nothing else, you get bold enough to question religious assumptions that dont make sense (funny how all my ancestors are in hell, but your founding fathers are all in heaven etc)

KEVIN DURANT SAID THAT COS HE WAS PISSED
BUT SERIOUSLY WE BOTH KNOW BOSH COULDNT WIN SHT WITHOUT LEBRON
HECK HE CLDNT EVEN TAKE THE RAPTORS TO A CONFERENCE FINALS
Its all about having a complementary team. The Thunder even without Westbrook is way more stacked than the Raptors ever were with Bosh. Being beside Lebron diminishes Bosh's skillset, but remember he is a legit big man, legit shot blocker and can drop 30+ on any given night. See his stats in the few games Lebron has missed. Notice the PFs guard Bosh more than they do Lebron during any playoff series. If Bosh were as useless as you say, David West would have been brutalizing Lebron full time.

What are your thoughts on this?
Interesting. Given how quickly BH became sophisticated, there is a good chance they have the backing of some foreign govt. I wouldn't be surprised if Iran is implicated at some point (Iranian clerics have been rumored to have instigated some religious riots in the north in the past). This would make part of a good case to ramp up sanctions, maybe even invasion of Iran. On the other hand I wonder if its now going to be harder to transact business/money to and from Nigeria. It certainly looks like there will be more eyes on that cash flow from diaspora back home

By Gods grace, today i have an Audit job with an international organization here in Baltimore,MD.I earn 60K USD and i will travel to 23 states in USA and 4 different Continents with my new role as International Financial Auditor (after 9 months of Job hunting).
Dont ever under estimate yourself.Look beyond your hindrances and always pray to God for mercies and unusual favor.God has a purpose for you coming to United States.Dont cage yourself and dont ever listen to failures.Today,by Gods grace people come to me and ask how i did it.
I have no regrets at all by his grace
Inspirational story. I think what people should take away is that you are likely a single man, so you could hang in there with no income for 9 months. You are young and have no other mouths to feed. You are the ideal immigrant. The issue is when some oga with comfortable lifestyle decides to uproot his family because of lottery. It is still doable, but dear God...

shymexx: How can you even match a Greg Oden who hasn't played in the NBA for a long time up against a beast? Hibbert is going to castrate him on the boards. That's not even a match-up, to be honest. And I still don't know when Bosh became a good defender, to be honest. The guy is soft! The height difference can't be more than an inch or two. Have you considered the leap and the wing span? David West is too powerful and too strong for Chris Bosh.
.
It doesnt matter. We know Hibbert is going to get his. But a big body will wear him down and make him think when he tries to shoot. It will be really entertaining if Spoelstra pulls a Popovich, and only starts to use Oden significantly during the playoffs. I guarantee you that as a big man, Hibbert is not used to having to adjust his shot or blocking out properly to get a rebound against a similar sized big man. Oden doesnt have to score a point. He just needs to keep Hibbert busy

David West is too powerful and too strong for Chris Bosh.
Really? Why was West taking primarily 18 foot jumpers all day instead of going to the rim. I can live with a jump shooting PF. The odds are you will lose, and they did. I love how his FG pct nosedived as the series went on grin

NAH DURANT DIDNT EXACTLY CALL HIM SOFT
IN HIS WORDS DURANT CALLED HIM ' FAKE TOUGH GUY'
' THERE ARE A LOT OF FAKE TOUGH GUYS IN OUR LEAGUE AND HE ( CHRIS BOSH) IS ONE OF THEM'
Durant was just showing you his maturity level at the time. See, he really didn't understand what it took to be a champ. He thought he would have a ring shortly just cause he could shoot, dunk and beat his chest. 3 years later, Bosh has 2 rings on a team where he played instrumental minutes. Remember how his 3pt shot made Ibaka useless 2 years ago. And how he kept Hibbert and Timmy D honest by making them play D last year. Lets not even talk about "the rebound" in Game 6 finals. In short, Durant now knows who is the fake tough guy. Had to learn respect for the game the hard way

interesting. its rare to see scouts raving about a big man that way. Lets see what college he plays for. funny his dad thinks he is a mix of Tim Duncan and Hakeem. we will see lol

As for Okafor. He just peaked and never got any better, even before his injuries. He is always going to have a job in the NBA though - dude is solid on rebounds and blocks
SportsRe: Is Victor Oladipo Nigeria's Next NBA Superstar And The New Hakeem Olajuwon? by birdman(m): 3:32am On Nov 12, 2013
ekt_bear: Okafor was a beast in college and pretty good in his first few NBA years. Just suffered a lot of injuries that robbed him of his athleticism.
It really wans't the injuries - its harder to go beast mode against much more versatile big men in the NBA. Okafor will give you your 12pts 10 rebounds 1-2 blocks per night. But he has never really been that player that affects the game. Oladipo may have the mental edge here - at least he tries to make you feel him during the game

Hard work is not enough. You will be surprised how much offseason work you have to put in in the NBA just to stay at the same level. I would wait until he shows he can overcome the rookie wall before anointing him for anything. So far, he looks more like a better version of Tony Allen in the making ala defensive stopper. Hakeem? The dream is on his own level.
CareerRe: Are Indian Bosses In Nigeria That Bad??? by birdman(m): 7:02am On Nov 11, 2013
AjanleKoko: Aha.
You're now right where we have been since the beginning of this thread. wink

An exaggerated sense of self-importance, a serious case of entitlement-mentality, and a total lack of vision. That's the problem of the Nigerian working-class.
Indians are merely good at working the system, wherever they find themselves. In fact, it's the crudest of the lot that find themselves in Nigeria on a regular basis. My LinkedIn inbox is perennially bombarded by Indian CVs.

Of course I have worked consistently with Indians over the last 15 years to not give a crap about them, or be particularly impressed with them. But we Nigerians are so bad at packaging and positioning ourselves, it's just pathetic. There's a fundamentally-flawed assumption that Nigerians are naturally talented and hardworking. Nothing could be further than the truth. The hustling mentality is way to pervasive, and will prevent much quality from emerging. In fact most times it is shyt that floats - tough-talking nuccas undecided

Let me even use Logica's stated area of specialization; software development. The very good companies or individuals are so few and so much in high demand, it is ridiculous. I once tried to hire someone and train the person in user interface design outside Nigeria, but the people I saw were more interested in the remuneration that whatever the job was about. Almost all candidates were entirely unsuitable, and many were unwilling.
I've had to resort to Indian or Eastern European companies for many development assignments.

So Nigerians should stop wailing about Indians or other employers. My dad used to say that, at some point in your career, you might find yourself working for the devil himself. Suck it up and learn from him is his recommendation, considering that since he's the devil, he obviously has something worth learning about, or some skill worth acquiring.
'

I dont disagree with anything you just said, esp. our get- rich quick by any means attitude. However, this is not what you were asking originally. It seems the thread has shifted into a Nigerian-Indian comparison.

KidStranglehold: IDK if its a good job either, but seeing how Indians treat Africans in their country while Africans treat them with kindness in their country...Something most happen. There is a reason why Idi Amin and Kenyans removed Indians from their country. Trust me Indians can be VERY racist more so than white people. I may not have experienced racism from Indians, but I've seen Indians being racist towards other black people first hand. IMO I'd rather Chinese in Africa instead. At least Chinese people are not living off of Africans and are actually contributing to Africa's development more so than Europeans or Indians ever did. Actually...Africans and Chinese have a very long trade history going back during B.C times and even around Medieval times.
You dont have to tell me bro. I have first hand experiences. Nothing will probably happen, knowing us. Africans are by nature more passive when it comes to discrimination - we dont have any biological need to be racist.

soul_glo: I gave you multiple definitions of slavery. Pick one. Those are both from Merriam Webster and Oxford. Instead you post links from Wikipedia. Yes. Wikipedia. Would you use Wikipedia in a dissertation? You know damn well you can't. Can you use the definition of anything taken out of The Oxford or Merriam Webster dictionaries. YES. So yes a slave as far as the English language is concerned can be defined as

a person who is the legal property of another and is forced to obey them.
a person who works very hard without proper remuneration or appreciation

You are only willing to accept the first part as slavery but the other definition we should throw out and instead read from Wikipedia about the transatlantic slave trade. I have high lighted the definition you should be looking at. Just in case you purposely want to ignore it again. I feel silly highlighting it because I know you saw it the first time. I am still still not sure why you are posting links to the Atlantic slave trade, Arab slave trader and slavery in the United States. Why? That makes no sense

I know this may sound cold hearted, but Africans should deport Indians from their countries. The smartest thing Idi Amin did was deport all the Indians. Indians are some of the most racist people towards Africans/black people, more racist than white people and THATS A FACT!.
I believe Kenyans did this as well sometime in the past. Given all the youtube and twitter technology, I suspect this may happen on a large scale again in the future. Its very easy to infalme passions nowadays, Im not necessarily sure its a good thing

soul_glo: What free will does a 7 year old whose parents sold her have? I mean I don't see how you honestly think you have made a point. Let me get this straight. Your logic is that since Nigeria actually has laws in place that makes slavery a criminal act then these children could not possibly be enslaved. Round of applause. And the forced generational labor part................. that's just hogwash. You even made up your own definition. If there is no forced generational labor then it cannot possibly be slavery?
You made the comparison to slavery. I just showed you that the idea is nonsensical. Making a 7 year old go to work is not the best idea, but its not slavery. The parents did consent, and the child can choose to stay or not once he is old enough. And most househelps do end up leaving, usually when they are old enough to start thinking of starting their own family or a trade. So, go ahead and show me how this is comparable to raiding villages, selling all the men and sending them overseas where they and their forbears will be slaves for another 400 years. I really want to hear this one.

If there is no forced generational labor then it cannot possibly be slavery?
Nice try taking me out of context. Like I said, what makes slavery bad is not just being taken against your will, but those that come after you must do the same thing you did. There are white Americans who were indentured servants, some treated just as bad as slaves. But you know what, their next generation got to taste full freedom. I'm sure you can see the difference today. So again, claiming househelps are slave is silly.

Again, I want to hear how you arrived at the conclusion that househelps Nigerian style are synonymous with slaves shipped over the atlantic. Seriously, I do.
