tpia: The people who dress half naked most times because of the weather or because they're at the beach, are still not in the same category as these ones. Models do theirs on the catwalk because its their job and they get paid for their work as adults, unlike these ones.
you see what your problem is? You have accepted the western explanation for why their version of nudity is OK. Yet you refuse to keep an open mind on why a Swazi man may think this dance is their own version of a catwalk. The fact that I even have to use a western comparison to make sense to you shows how jaded we have become.

Actually, it has its own tv station. I dont condone the dance, but I am not embarrassed by it. I dont see anyone getting embarrassed by the huge number of western child molesters in Asian countries. It will never make a Taboo episode. Why do we allow ourselves be denigrated so easily. If the people of Swaziland have had enough, they will change it. Maybe enough of them like it and want to keep it.

Kwaide kwaide.

Same here. I went there couple of timez last year. I spent 2 weeks the first time it was good. I met a friend there called tallest, he was a very nice guy huzzling to make something out of that stinking galous. When i came back again after 2 months, tallest don enter gallous. Nobody was able to explain or report on his wereabout. I decided to pick another friend called chibuzo also nice. When i left again and came back withing december period, chibuzo got missing. I asked myself where will this people beself? Someone told me they are in the gallous and their gallous is forever. Anytime they ant thhey will give you out to snake and pitons to feed on so they will produce tomany for them to eat.

They beleive that black man is a good food for the snakes and pitons. I went there again 1monthh before the olympics, it was another story. I called many people to come and meet me, hahaha no one gree come out. Fear hole every body.

My advice to my ellow Nigerians. If you have a brother or friend there try and find out his wereabout and tell him to enter Vietnam from there. If not he will enter gallous 2.

You must make.

I think Seun is right. Thailand's 'people revolt' really is one corrupt politician fighting another by proxy. Either way, Thaksin Shinawatra or his opponent's stooge get power.
The PM didnt step down because of people pressure. H e stepped down because the people (popular opinion on the street) had approved of the army taking over power should in case their riots fail. Politically, the Thai are decades behind us. The Nigeran populace would rather solve problems through democratic means than a coup, even though it is slower.

EducationRe: Secrets Of First Class Students? by birdman(m): 5:50am On Aug 28, 2008
i'm late to this thread, but will put in my 1 cent grin

1 NATURAL BRILLIANCE DOES NOT EXIST: Some people "know how to learn" earlier than others and this translates into being ahead of the pack early. There is nothing magical, special or innate about it, even though people like to think so, its a good ego boost i guess. Case in point: cramming for 12 hrs before an exam is not an effective way of learning. Reading for your exam like you are going to explain concepts to a 10 yr old is a much better way to learn. This is the difference between the genius and the flunker.

2 IQ IS AN OUTDATED CONCEPT: There is no single quotient or measure for intelligence, because several people can look at the same information and come to different conclusions based on their background. There is no on correct way of solving problems or processing information.

THE ROLE OF GOD IN GETTING GOOD GRADES: The only way to be completely fair in this is to count how many people "read hard" before exams, pray and then make an A. Statistically, first classes are rare, as are 2-1s to an extent. Even if all these 1-1 and 2-1s credit God with their success, given the fact that there are way more people without 1-1 or 2-1s, the role of God in getting better grades is tenuous. Unless you believe God wants some people to get first class, and others 2-2. cheesy

Foreign AffairsRe: Honest Question For African Americans? by birdman(m): 5:38am On Aug 12, 2008
DeepZone:
I think it's the side effect of an urban legend. I bet you, 90% of AA's that vote democratic do not know why they should do so. They only do it because they supposedly "heard" their people belong to the democratic party and it may take you a millenium to convince them that the republicans actually have done more for them than the democrats. Education is the key. You'll also notice that most black republicans are the educated ones. Same thing that made them believe Africans don't like them without knowing that there is no country like Africa in the first place.
I think AA's are not given enough credit for being politically savvy enogh o know where their bread is buttered. The democratic bias is not just ignorance. It is rooted in reality. Regardless of what is happening at the top of the party, the grassroots democratic party is far friendlier to the black cause than the republican one
Foreign AffairsRe: Honest Question For African Americans? by birdman(m): 5:34am On Aug 12, 2008
lol cheesy. Seems like you argue just for the sake of argument

For example:
Kobojunkie: I ask, why Condolesa Rice helping people of all races makes me of little worth to African Americans based on your assessment of her case?
you are going off on a tangent. Nothing wrong with helping people regardless of race. I never said it was of no worth. I'm not sure how you reach this conclusion

Kobojunkie: I would like to bring your attention to the fact that the view you have posted above is not shared by all persons in America, let alone all Africans/African Americans in America. So your claim of inherent legal nepotism is questionable.
Of course. These are my views, based on my experience. Others may have different views based on what they see. There's nothing wrong with that, and I have no problems with it. I'm stating my views (see thread author's post)

Kobojunkie: Nepotism does exist but is it reason why you claim Condi’s work is not useful to the black community? Must all persons turn to nepotism here for their contribution to society to be of worth? Nepotism is considered a huge problem in Nigeria today, are you preaching the world should endorse it then?
I gave the example of nepotism because you said you didnt buy into other races helping their own. So now you agree that nepotism exists. Fine. I didnt say I supported it. I never did. I just gave you examples, from my experience to counter your opinion

If at all, you want to argue any point, you need some hard evidence, not conjecture. Did you check the H1B rolls?

LET ME RITERATE:

This thread is about AAs and their party affiliations. I gave reasons, from my view, on why this may be so. I'm really not sure what is there to argue about. Na wa o cheesy
Foreign AffairsRe: Honest Question For African Americans? by birdman(m): 3:16pm On Aug 10, 2008
Your views on AA are just your views. Just as mine are. I've said before, I'm not one of them. This is my observation, not what I necessarily believe. Take it for what its worth. That being said, the best parallel I can give you is this: I as a Nigerian have gone thru a lot of sh** to get where I am. There is nothing wrong with seeing if I can help my fatherland where I can. Matter of fact, its the decent thing to do. It is not required. It is not necessary. But you could say its a moral obligation. Not every nigerian graduate has the opportunity I do, and my helping them does not imply I want them to be lazy.

As for other races helping themselves, yes I'm sure of what I posted. America is a melting pot and and races intermingle a lot, like you have said. However, as minorities get older, and push comes to shove, each minority group realizes there is an inherent, "legal" nepotism in the system that does not favor minorities. They do the smart thing and work the system, making sure to get their own in every now and then without looking too obvious.

For example, you may want to look at the H1B visas issues by the US annually. You can find the records online. Take a good look at Asian owned companies, especially in the SW US. You will find them applying for visas (and hiring) for their own exclusively, sometimes with job titles that turn out to be bogus. blatant, open nepotism. but its legal wink
Foreign AffairsRe: Honest Question For African Americans? by birdman(m): 6:26pm On Aug 09, 2008
Kobojunkie:
I have a question about your comment on Condi Rice. What exactly is she supposed to do to be on the same level as her fellow blacks? Focus less on the fact that She is in a high seat in a country where the motto includes the phrase "out of many, ONE" , to focus on one particular group of people who make up only about 12% of the population?

If she is sworn in to rule in a nation supposed to be ONE, but chooses to focus on the black community and their many issues, who gets to focus on the issues concerning the Chinese Americans, the Indian Americans, the Arab Americans? the Hispanics? Do we need to have one black, one chinese, one African, one Indian, one Arab in office then to satisfy all the individual groups as opposed to having one person in office to focus on issues that concerns all and not some over others?
I'm not suggesting she pander to blacks. Take Colin Powell for example. His passion is teaching and helping young black kids. You'll probably never hear this from him in public, but he's good at it, and the AA community recognizes him for it, even if they dont agree with his politics.

Condi's take (she's not the only one) is that she's black, she made it herself, and you should pull yourself by your bootstraps too. Except she didnt. She got where she is because of the blood and tears of a previous generation. Its not too much to ask that she get more involved in the community. The fact that she is that high up in govt. means she can influence lots of young black women

As for the other races you mention, I wont go into too much detail, except to say that when they do get into positions of influence, helping their own is always paramount in their minds.

nothing wrong with a preacher having the finer things in life, having a car(a), send kids to good schools etc. but there ought to be a reasonable limit, compared with how well your church members are doing. If you have 3 cars on a pastor's salary and some of your congregation cant eat 3 square meals, why not sell one car and see how you can help undecided

is the democrat party taking you guys for granted? with overwhelming support for the dems, since the 60s, i'm yet to be convinced that there is much to show for it.

yet it is the republicans who appointed the first black secretary of state, first black female sec of state( it was rumoured that powell was asked to be VP he declined, saying he would prefer sec of state. not sure if its true)

first black chief justice(?not sure) appointed by republicanshuhhuhnot sure
i'm not AA but I think a lot of AAs look at these appointees as stooges. Clarence Thomas has nowhere near the clout Thurgood Marshall did. Condi is probably too uppity to care about black issues.

plus the rank and file of the republican party is definitely NOT minority friendly. you can make it as an AA with repubs, but you will work 3x as hard, and still get used (Colin Powell)

Another problem with western universities especially the MIT's and the Caltech's is that they spend billions of dollars on research of absolutely meaningless and abstract things that have almost no application in the real world like planetoids, asteroids. the formation of snowflakes, kuiper's belt and the black hole (who knows wether it even exists sef grin) instead of focusing on real world problems like curing cancer. That's why there research budget are so over bloated and there rankings in the world are so high and the rest of us are like , wow.
Another weakness in there university system is that there proffessors are so pre-occupied with research rather than there students, they don't spend one on one with there students with dire consequences.
the meaningless research of the last century is the foundation of technology today. all the crazy, useless research german engineers did during WW2 and bell labs scientists did in the early 50s gave rise to cell phones, internet,

as for asian school being pragmatic, sigh. the closest to being pragmatic are the japanese, because yhey model their system to the american one. even then, they still have a rigid work culture. the average asian engineer works almost twice as long (sleep in office sometimes) and accomplish significantly less cheesy

@mr birdman
I am not going to argue with you that Nigerians engineers are just as good as engineers in the west and asia. Just go to a good and very reputable engineering university in the US, then come talk to me later. By the way, when i mean good i don't mean some Eastern Tenneese state university, Texas southern university, or south western montana state kind of university i mean the big boys like the Berkeley's, USC's, Urbana Champains, UMichigan's, UT Austin's, University of Chicago not to mention the ivy leagues.
uhh i went to a top 5 engineering university. i maintain you don't know what you are talking about. Instead of working on conjecture, why don't you do a little research on where the bulk of patents are coming from and who the heavy hitters are in industry. anytime i hear someone praise asian education like its a holy grail, i realise they don't know what they are talking about.

You think its by accident that the best asians prefer to come school in the US and then go back home and become the sh^^. EVEN leading indian engineers acknowledge that in term of IP and R&grin, india is still 20-25 years behind the US.
EducationRe: Asian Education: Better Than Western Education? by birdman(m): 9:28pm On Aug 04, 2008
@bobby16, very well said

btwthe indian education system is similar to the nigerian one, both models were inherited from the british. we tend to emphasize rote learning. For example we start solving complex calculus problems in SS1, like indians. Unfortunately, we can't apply the concepts to develop anything creative, sort of like putting the cart before the horse.

Americans don't start calculus until freshman year (sometimes sophomore). however, they learn the concepts and applications (3 semester's worth) and end up being much better at using calculus than the average indian or nigerian.
EducationRe: Asian Education: Better Than Western Education? by birdman(m): 8:45pm On Aug 04, 2008
@OP

as a practicing engineer, i find these perceptions you have are NOT true. there is no such thing as one group of engineers being better than the other. you might have a larger number of indian engineers because of population but this has nothing to do with being better.

the singular most important factor in who the smartest engineers are is how old they were when they got interested in math, science, This is primarily the reason why kids raised in middle class white homes are still have the highest proportion inventions and techniques driving industry, even though they are a minority. OPPORTUNITY is the name of the game

Stop believing the hype. nigerian engineers are just as capable as asian engineers or any other group you mention. As for your assertion of israeli engineers being the best, this is funny. Iranian engineers/scientists are generally more accomplished than Israelis. everyone seems to have this mythical belief in israeli science, lol

As for the Asian education you mention, read some peer reviewed journals like IEEE and compare the quality of research and discoveries coming from 'top' schools in asia with 'average' schools in the US. It will change your mind.
