I agree with you. If they seceede they will start serious in fighting. They should learn from their AD party. They are too greedy to be united. They are just making noise because it is they themselves that will betray each other. I have never seen such a tribe before. Diya joined Abacha to fight his brother,Obasanjo fought Bola Ige, Awolowo and the list goes on. They are always ready to kiss the feet of the Hausa/Fulani.
I was in the North when there was religious crises and after the crises was brought under controll most the Yoruba christians quickly converted to Islam so that they will not be killed. you act like only the igbos are being marginalised. if you put aside your anger and frustration for a moment, you'd realise that splitting wont solve anything. the problem has and will be a cabal of leaders without conscience at the top.
To me, splitting Nigeria is like trying to make your problems go away by drinking. Of course they will be waiting for you in the morning, what then
You know what they say, fools rush where angels fear to tread.
side question by the way, if the igbo nation were to break off, who do you think will emerge as leaders post-breakup, just curious to what you think |

Jakumo: Yar Adua is the re-incarnation of Shagari : A polite, understated, unassuming, ineffective, inactive and largely unseen figure-head "president" who is only in place to prevent corruption probes being aimed at uncovering the mass looting of those who preceded him. He heads this list because he is ALREADY dead while still in office.
My cull list is as follows
Segun Obasanjo - For personally stealing 16 billion US dollars that would have provided Nigeria with electricity
Iyabo Obasanjo - For stealing 300 million naira that would have refurbished numerous hospitals nationwide.
Babangida - For derailing and ultimately conspiring to murder the winner of the June 12 1993 presidential election.
Monkey Buhari - For turning Nigeria into a repressive and murderous police state during his grab at power, and for having the audacity to imagine that anyone in their right mind would ever vote for him as civilian dog-catcher.
The final six entries to my list may be selected at random from the upper mis-management levels of the organisation supposedly responsible for providing electricity to Nigeria. These individuals should be subjected to prolonged torture followed by dismemberment with the help of wild dog packs specifically starved in preparation for the occasion. so how do you really feel I have only one: IBB. If IBB falls hard, these other idiots will become gentle, like the cowards they really are. |

Here's a linkAuthorities order bars not to serve black people
Beijing authorities are secretly planning to ban black people and others it considers social undesirables from entering the city's bars during the Olympic Games, a move that would contradict the official slogan, "One World, One Dream".
Bar owners near the Workers' Stadium in central Beijing say they have been forced by Public Security Bureau officials to sign pledges agreeing not to let black people enter their premises.
"Uniformed Public Security Bureau officers came into the bar recently and told me not to serve black people or Mongolians," said the co-owner of a western-style bar, who asked not to be named.
The local authorities have been cracking down on blacks and Mongolians in an attempt to stamp out drug dealing and prostitution ahead of the Games, the proprietors said.
A few months ago, police launched a violent sting on black men drinking in the Sanlitun bar district, and a notorious nightclub largely populated by Mongolian prostitutes was also shut down.
Security officials are targeting Sanlitun, which Olympic organisers expect to be a key destination for foreign tourists looking for a party during the Games.
The pledges that Sanlitun bar owners had been instructed to sign agreed to stop a variety of activities in their establishments, including dancing and serving customers with black skin, they said.
They have been allowed to keep copies of all the pledges except those relating to blacks, implying that the authorities are wary of charges of racism.
"I am appalled," said a black British national who works in Beijing. "I understand that the government is trying to stop certain illegal activities, but I don't think blanket discrimination is going about it the right way.
"Chinese people are prejudiced, but I would have hoped that the government would set a better example as it debuts on the world stage."
Calls to Dongcheng district and Chaoyang district public security bureaus, which oversee the bar districts, went unanswered.
The authorities' attempt to keep unwanted behaviour from damaging the squeaky-clean image of the Games is the latest example of heavy-handedness that critics say is killing the party spirit of the Olympics.
During the Athens Olympics four years ago, bars and nightclubs were allowed to stay open all night. But venues in Beijing that are not being shut down during the Games will have to close at 2am and maintain tight security.
"The officials told me to inform my customers that they must at all times carry their passports or ID cards," said one bar owner.
"Security is important, but Beijing is becoming a fortress, and that's not attractive."
Rumours that all bars within 2km of an Olympic venue will need to close remain unconfirmed, with many managers complaining that they still have not been told whether they will be allowed to open or not. Several bars have been raided in the past few weeks as local police step up a campaign of low-level intimidation, according to several witness accounts.
Bar and restaurant managers in Sanlitun have been instructed to remove tables from footpaths in a crude attempt to prevent fighting in the streets.
"The local police told us to get rid of the tables because they're scared that if too many foreigners congregate outside there could be trouble," said Song Xun , who runs a burrito joint in the area.
Local musicians say that a clampdown on live music risks stifling Beijing's thriving cultural scene and giving Olympic tourists the false impression that the city is artistically anaemic.
Several popular live music venues have been shut or instructed to stop all outdoor shows, and club owners complain they have got used to strange new guests nursing a beer for hours and suspiciously observing everything around them.
"The whole music scene is angry and bewildered. It is impossible to understand how keeping tourists from seeing an open, culturally vibrant and diverse Beijing is possibly a good thing for anyone," said one well-known figure in the local music industry.
David Mitchell, a Beijing-based jazz musician, said it had become increasingly difficult for his band to find anywhere to play.
"It appears the local government is trying to control every aspect of the experience that foreigners get when they come here," he said.
"Everything is aimed at creating stability, but they don't understand that is precisely the unfounded prejudice that foreigners have of Chinese society - that it is a highly controlled and not a very cultural place. It seems completely self-defeating."

Blacks happen to make up the majority when it comes to the poor in America. If you doubt it, check the numbers. Come on. The media does not have to feed anyone with anything for one to observe and understand this to be the case. I have lived in many states and I can tell you for a fact that wherever you go in America, you get this. Kobojunkie, nowhere have I disputed how many poor blacks there are. MY POINT is to stop generalizing as Jakumo did, it is naive. You experience with blacks in your field is anecdotal at best , like someone said, your experience is subjective. This is like saying "nigerians are shady people", its easy to say and doesnt require you to think As to "leaders" like Sharpton and Jesse, these guys believe the squeakiest wheel gets the grease. Most of black america does not recognize these guys as leaders, only fox news and cnn do (hint: they can be very entertaining) |

Jakumo, way to paint all AAs with such a broad brush . Contrary to what you say, a large swathe of AAs have jumped into the upper and middle class in the last decade in spite of the "news" you are being fed. I find it (almost) funny that no one berates other americans for wasting money on expensive country clubs, getting mortgages they cant afford, spending money they dont have, but as soon as it comes to the black man, everyone want to magnify the bad. My view: Many of their grievances are justified. Incidentally, other minorities, including the Asians you speak about also get the short end of the stick. They may not be as vocal as AAs,but it is more of a cultural choice than a purposeful intent to not whine. Step out of Cali and other metropolitan cities some time and live for a while in "middle america". Everything from getting meaningful paying jobs to loans is a hassle |

How rude and disrespectful would that be?! I don't even feel comfortable to ask a friend my age. There's not really any way you can put that and sound nice.
Also, this isn't so much an argument between my husband and I. As I stated, we have come to our own compromise on the issue. It's more about me understanding his brother, friends and other family. Like you said earlier, it has more to do with 'expectations'. It has less to do with culture (which is very family oriented), and more to do with fear, fear of ever encountering the 'rough' times he may have had as an immigrant initially. I'm not sure there is any way around it, cuz I think he may be right in some ways. There's just going to have to be compromises both ways. |

Kobojunkie: I do believe the city is worth beautifying but what exactly is this beautifying we intend for Lagos and at worth cost? Is the cost going to be higher than the benefits we gain from it? if we beautify lagos, is it so that the few can have better place to do business while the majority are thrown to the slums to continue to rot??
If beautifying Lagos includes cleaning up the government and putting up policies and making changes that do not benefit the few but practically all lagosians, I am 100% for it but if this is the old, beautification so that the rich can come in and put up more constructions that will be abandoned in a couple of years. NAH!!! I say we should learn from the civilized world now that we have them and already see the results of policies they have adapted in the past. How about we 'beautify' lagos for the same reason we 'beautify' our own homes. Like because its the right and decent thing to do? I put beautify in quotes because most of these changes have less to do with the 'rich' than you think. I'm sure you realise that the cleaner a place is, the better the health of its people, wether rich or poor, and the less money they have to spend on health. Also, you should know that if Lagos became 'beautified' as you say, not only rich people get the benefits. You too can set up buisness easily, travel from one end of lagos to the other for work or whatever without unnecessary traffic and stress. WHY IS THIS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND? How can ANYONE, especially those who have seen how orderly it is in other countries DEFEND EYESORES. |

I didnt miss your point. All i'm suggesting is that what appears to be so "common sense" to you is not absolute. Has it occurred to you that there may be women, like men, who like to have many relationships just because they want to. You portray women as unwilling victims in these relationships. It may be true for most women you know, but its not true for all women. And yes, just because you think ecclesiastes is a great book doesnt mean everyone else thinks so. Even if he appears, seconds after the end of his appearance on TV, atheists will quicky claim that it is mass hallucination or trump up some other reasons to justify their views. Why not? God loves me right? He loves me so much he would give his ONLY son for me. But he wont appear on CNN even if there is a chance, a small chance that more people would be saved form a horrific eternity. m_nwankwo: The onus to find evidence for the existence of God lies with each person. , And if in my reasoning process I wrongly conclude that there is no God, do I still go to hell? Why? What if I dont think there is a God, but out of fear, I become a christian anyhow? Why will God let me into heaven, afterall, i am being dishonest by claiming I believe in Jesus when I really dont. And since God knows everything, he must know i'm being deceptive and cant let me into heaven. Doesnt this mean there is no way I can enter heaven, wether i am truthful or not? |
