Agreed that grades are not a total reflection of abilities. But put yourself in the shoes of an employer. You want to make as much profit as possible. Who would you hire - a 2-1 or a 2-2 if you had the choice? Sure, some people buy 2-1's but you can't use that to hire a 2:2 over a 2:1. There are way more legit 2-1s |

@ luvlymoi is that why you posted 9 black cats having a meeting in a circle as your pic. na wa o ![]() |
@big_bumper. asking this on your first meeting will cause both WEED and good plants to run away ![]() you will be left with remarkably good liars. kids are a huge commitement, not to be taken lightly. any sensible guy would flee if you ask this on a first meeting. it will look like you are desperate, or crazy ![]() |
I dont know if this has been posted before. If so, lock it up. This is a series (UK Channel 4) about a reporter who goes undercover to some mosques. I wonder what any Naija in jands has to say about this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=peFQWuk4nuo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuCLC8kjWCI https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x5t5EqWX92k https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yMztM0Z7BYE https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V4Zv3BUmwqs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KvjvNScmTQA |

If you are in Cali, NY Chicago and some more prominent cities, Jakumo's description is almost dead on. Other than high cost of living, SoCal is the place to be .Be warned though, these 'gateway' cities represent a small fraction of America. Once you get into the bible belt and midwest, the story is different. If you are a minority, things can get very oppressive very quickly, especially if you are trying to join the white-collar middle class. You wont believe some of the sh** happening in 2006. I give props to African Americans. I quite frankly cannot imagine how they managed to thrive some 30-40 years ago. |
Easyy:This is what China did, except on the flip side. Up until a decade or two ago, their reputation was that of lazy, unscrupulous characters. It was common to see poor rural villages in China. Now you cant just go there, setup cameras in some nameless village somewhere and start filming malnourished kids. Add to this, they have an active media campaign to show their positives. Perhaps we should adopt the same tact. I for one am tired of some "humanitarian" flying into Sheraton at Abuja, and then driving some hundred kilometers into the forest somewhere and proclaiming this is what Nigeria loooks like. |
i get the feeling that they like to kabel other peoplebecause it makes them look better. In any case, 20/20 (and several others) is notorious for this type of rubbish. They interview a few respectable looking academics here and there, do some nice video editing, and try to make a case whose conclusion has been reached before any investigation. Fact is these "talking head" shows as they are called have very little credibility among well educated americans. At least we dont have a congressman molesting children ![]() |
It used to be Md. Now its Houston (NY is not even close). |
all i'm suggesting is that there is a fair amount of hubris and condescension in your post. It would be understandable if it were from a westerner (the British are particularly good at it), but you need to realize, wether you like it or not, that this was once considered normal, not only in our society, but many others around the world. Thankfully, most cultures have unanimously evolved from this type of punishment, Africans no less. But the fact remains that what the 'prof' did was part of our culture at one point. In trying to denigrate him, you only denigtate yourself, because its part of your heritage. There are more matured and informed ways of looking at what this 'prof' did. As for the jail house education, the 'prof' is about to get another degree ![]() |
Jakumo:friend, take off your rose colored glasses. Its not right, but it happens in just about every country in the world. Within the last 2-3 weeks there have been worse 'hazing' scandals reported in S Korea, Russia and Britain. And whats with the whole 'Bush man' thing. If Oyinbo wont give you respect does that mean you cant respect yourself. Geez. ![]() |
jammin:oh the irony ![]() |
the american evangelical church, especially in the bible belt is more of a cultural and political animal than anything else. Frankly, I am not surprised about Haggard, and will not be shocked if other hgh profile leaders of this group fall in the future. You can tell the quality of a christian by the fruit of what they do, not just what they say. The americal evangelicals, at this point, are a beehive of hypocrisy. in my opinion and experience. |
sigh, we refuse to take ourselves seriously and wonder why no one takes us seriously. why would any resonable pilot fly after being advised against it by the control tower . very tragic event . those of you blaming obasanjo, i pray you see how hypocritical your stance is, (probably not) The only good thing that can come of this is that our leaders realize that any of them could have been on this plane, and make some meaningful avaiation reform. roscodaddy, please stay off the weed (blood sucking demons?, geeeez ) |
@ono, its not going to fail. wether you like it or not, Nigeria will move forward. we've had enough of backwardness to last several lifetimes. You always whine like you are the only one in the country suffering. Nigeria WILL move forward, wether you like it or not, with or without your help. |
"we may very well be attaKKed" ![]() |
walelead i think you hit the nail on the head. The main thing is lawlessness. If the rule of law can be established firmly, everything will fall into place, with time. One thing though, trying to effect change via commercial class is not enough, I think. There has to be a "middle-class" participation in the political class, otherwise any attempt at change will be one huge merrygoround. |
someone please confirm the above link is a prank. it cant be for real, right? ![]() |
In response to above post: I think we blame our leaders too much. Our leaders did not drop out of the sky. These people are from among us, they lived among us and they reflect what we as Nigerians have become. Our problem isn't oil, roads, food, Our problem is us. The way we think is twisted, and we refuse to love ourselves enough to change. You have probably heard several stories of how patients in critical conditions die at hospitals because of no electricity. If we loved ourselves, we would demand without rest and make sure that all hospitals have reliable backups, because one day, someone we love may very well be in critical condition in a hospital. We attend "all-night" prayer sessions binding all manner of spirits, gyrating as though by our loud speaking we can make God do 'jara' for us. As Yorubas will say, this is "oju-aiye" (pretense). How can a christian who has enough faith to bind some supposed principality not have enough faith to make a lasting change at his/her workplace. We keep invoking God's name in everything but our actions towards ourselves and fellow Nigerians show we really are not serious about anything. The words we speak outside of church contradicts our prayers 80% of the time ![]() Finally, you all remember the poll that placed Nigerians as the most happy people on the earth? Some think this is a good thing. It isn't. You might think it implies resilience. I think it points instead to our laziness and careless attitude. Rather than change things, we are content to sit by and look, hoping some mugu will risk his life to make things better while the rest of us enjoy. Only a madman does the same thing over and over again, and expects a different result. I personally have little faith in the current generation ruling us (these guys were in power from when we had independence, through our first coup, until now). They remind me of the first israelites who left Egypt. Their minds have been warped and all we can do is wait for them to die out or get too old to rule (or maybe amadioha strikes the lot of them down ) so that new blood can come in (Utomi, Duke, Dora I am looking at you )"The eyes of the future are looking back at us and praying for us to look beyond our own time" |
Sijien thank youuuu SPDC does not release the amout of bribe money they lose to the locals every year(an estimated loss of several million dollars), because when all the budget for W.Africa is done, they are still well ahead. No need to rock the boat. Niger delta problems, as of now, has very little to do with any form of development or actualisation by the indigenes. The corruption and thievery of the leaders and people in this areas is mind boggling. Oyinbo no dey talk, as long as he can make his money and go on. For example SPDC hired boys in the delta area in an effort to include 'local content'. Then they noticed that their equipment was being stolen regularly, by none other than the people they had hired. Of course SPDC initially fired them, until the tribal leaders raised hell. Shell decided on a compromise: pay the boys not to come to work !! At least that way, no more stolen equipment. Oh, and by the way, if you are not from the tribal area, and you are transferred to the area by SPDC, you know the kind of wahala you are going to go through. There are stories of some Nigerians working in the area who have to pay 25% of their salary to the tribal leaders. Why? Because no local content was found to fill the job, and as far as they are concerned, you are renting the job until they can find one of their own. I better stop now ![]() |
props to you. i like the suspense about what was wrong with him and how you revealed it. you definitely can write ![]() |
This should solve the debate once and for all http://www.ebaumsworld.com/2006/07/spirit-of-truth.html |
To start with, we are not going to play their own of game with them. It will be shortsighted to play their type of game. In fact our reason for being is to terminate their type of game in Nigerian public life. The game where we plunder the state and take revenues pillaged from the state to impose ourselves on the people and hold them hostage. That must end. This man is going to need prayers for sure. |
2 things: - If mammy water is knocking at your door, running to hide on the bed will not make it go away - If your bro has just been feasted upon on a bed, pls do not sleep on the same bed the next night ![]() |

lmao, na craze ? you want to leave 400k per month for canada, finding an equivalent job with all your education/experience in nigeria will be hard. Unless they see you have graduated from a north american school, you will probably have to go to school for a few years again, and then compete with people that are your children's age for entry level jobs. Even if you get a job that pays as much as the current one, tax and cost of living will eat it up. Bottom line, mving to Canada will set your career back by about 7-10 years, if you are lucky. Like others said before, the best thing you can do with this is use it to get your kids in good Canadian schools. |
