@egunmogaji, like erico2k2 said, its the bending back of iron reinforcement (not neccessarily excess iron if its plan to be like that). A runner length of iron is used in binding all the bent iron reinforcement together for further strengthing. Check the pictures attached for further clarifications.

We have commenced the fixing of the casement windows.

More pictures from the swimming pool casting.

The swimming pool floor was casted yesterday, we used 9inches thickness and the mix ratio was 1:2:4. The cement used was Lafarge super set. Casting started at about 9am and we were done by 4pm. Next stage is the formwork for the side walls.

@egunmogaji 1. We used wire mesh. (brc wire mesh) on the german floor to hold the concrete together and prevent cracking. No matter the nature of the soil, iron reinforcement is neccesary in concrete cast as in helps in binding the concrete mix. It will also prevent the german floor from sinking (sagging). Concrete is strong in compression but weak in tension, hence the inclusion of bars of steel/iron to provide the tensile strength. 2. We used the 3/4 granite as a hardcore even though for this type of solid soil it is not compulsory but if you can afford it, it will add to the structural strength of the sub-structure/german floor. 3. The use of columns (pillars) is based on the structural drawing prepared by a structural engineer and columns help in fortifying the structural integrity of the building even if its a bungalow. I hope these clarifications helps. |
Laying of the damp proof membrane on the foundation, after this iron reinforcement of 10mm was laid on it in a net form at intervals of 10inches and returned at the edge. Next in line is the carpentary formwork to the edge (igbati), the casting thickness is going to be 4inches and the mix ratio will be 1:2:4.

Iron reinforcement work has been completed for the swimming pool floor and wall, the water bar has been put in place and we are ready for casting tomorrow morning for the floor.
Thank you all for the great compliments, we try our best to meet up to world class artisanship. Its not really easy to get the best out of our artisans but with the right motivation and word of encouragement, its achievable. |
Roof work has been completed now with the application of the flashband at the edge of the wall. The coping on the roof slab block wall has also been casted.
Iron reinforcement work for the swimming pool still in progress.
@kopell, thanks for the compliments. The roof cladding material is Onduvilla, its light weight, reflects heat and noise proof. Its made from bitumen and fibre and does not degrade or change colour. It cost between N2600 - N2800 per square metre, 3.23 sheets make a square metre.

More roof cladding pictures
The roof cladding work started yesterday morning and by evening, we were already done with 2 units. One more unit to do and the flash bands.
@XYD2, that should not be a problem if. You are ready to learn and ready for the rigors of construction work. @omoola007, I will post the floor plans online ASAP. |
Backfilling of the foundation was finally completed on Saturday, it took 12 trips of 10 tons sandfill to accomplish. I guess the height will justify the cost in the future when the road level rises. Each sandfill trip cost N9000 in Ikorodu and we paid N1500 for packing each.

More pictures of the iron reinforcement work.

Work is already ongoing on the electrical conduiting for the second floor, once it is concluded the 2nd floor wall plastering will start.
Work on the swimming pool iron reinforcement started on Friday and hopefully we shld be through by Tuesday.
The roof slab block wall has been completed and plastered, what is outstanding is the coping to be casted on it. The gable wall has been plastered also and once all roof slab work is completed, we can then clad the roof.

More pictures of the swimming pool.

Back to Ogbomosho. The blinding of the pool floor has been done and the next stage is the pool floor iron reinforcement work.
Ongoing work on the roof gable walls and the facial boards.
Backfilling of one unit of terrace completed, 3 unit left.
Blockwork has been completed on the swimmimg pool and it has taken shape. Next stage is to apply concrete blinding to the entire floor area of the swimming pool to make it ready for the iron reinforcement work.
Window works in progress, some of the windows ordered have been delivered and they are just coupling the handles. Once the external plastering is concluded the windows will be fixed. We are actually on go-slow mode since we started the finishing work but we are moving at a steady pace.
More backfilling pictures, we should be able to backfill all today or tomorrow and the DPM laying will start by Tuesday. Laying the DPM for this site is just a precautionary step, we actually don't expect dampness or a rising of dampness but since DPM cost next to nothing, its highly recommended.
Backfilling currently ongoing on site. We are using laterite to backfill for this site due to lower cost and easy availability.
More pictures of the columns casting for the foundation.
Roof woodwork started this morning and we should be through by Sunday. The roof cladding work will start immediately.
@omoola007, thanks for the observation it is well noted. However, that particular wall does not have any room space, just the stairwell and the toilets. Windows are quite important for ventilation and natural lighting and I appreciate your advise. @Hajj M, thanks. |
@erico2k2, the pictures you requested for the slab underneath.

How much can I get half a plot of land here? |
