Just click on the moniker of any builder u find interesting & read through his works & comments, so u can get feedback from persons he has worked for....for me i think that will do...incompenent contractors can still penetrate the said platform u intend creating...

Please don't generalize when it comes to issues like this. Most Architectural designs are perfect and difficult to understand if you are not deep into building designs. When i compared my two houses built by an architect and an engineer, i realized that the architect is better by far. The architect was able to bring out all the designs exactly the way it was on paper. I am recommending you to this Architect his job is superb, try him with a civil or structural engineer and you will see the difference. Just take a look at this job he did at Mgbakwu, Awka. If you want your house to beat all existing houses in that new location or area choose this Architect; he chances all the houses anywhere he built. He is the choice to Real Estate owners. Choose him for your Estate Design and he will present you with different designs from Australia, Iceland, Dubai and U.S.A. I agree with you as a juniour architect. Here is the problem, a quality of an architect is bringing something unique with a purpose. And it better be something new, since creativity is more encouraged. Then the Civil Engineer will have a hard time making this happen in reality.

Architects must make sure it can be made in reality and Civil Engineers must not change their mind cuz it's difficult. Because every little thing an Architect placed have a reason

. How does an Architect become the nightmare of a Civil Engineer!!!! Poo Poo words. Architects if nothing are entirely for aesthetics. Every complete building plan duly done in Nigeria comes with a phrase " changes are subject to Site Engineers approval" or there about. A Civil/Structural Engineer handled the Structural aspect of the building plan and as long as that is achieved the Engineer is good to go. When Architects and Engineers argue over what and how buildings should and can be done it does not necessarily prove that one is inferior to the other. It's all about the individual's span of knowledge and experience.

As I watched the War on Quotation rages, I just want to tell the house that there are people in Nigeria that are still good. I have a supervisor that works for me. He never collects any fee from me for his work. He recommend that I give him whatever I feels he deserves. O BOy, I believe I have over paid him so many time simply because he has exceeded my expectation so many times. And guess what? I Am Very Happy with him. I have recommended him to family members and he still working for them with the same MOTTO. and he is getting paid nicely.

Therefore, Do a good job, and the client will gladly reward you beyond your expectation. Happy Clients do not look at price for a job WELL DONE

. Well that happens when you meet people who value such things. I have a client who does not like to pay neither his supervisor nor his engineer for such purposes but times and over times he has over shot the expectations of my masons on payments especially when they did not price with him on any particular job.

But if you feel otherwise you can send me a copy of your plan(s) to give you a quote from an Engineers' view. #3.7Million for plastering inclusive of materials and #500k+ for scaffolding and so may posts about everyone for or against it. As far as that duplex is concerned that amount is way far high. Scaffolding are either permanent (bamboo or wood) or collapsible or adjustable ( metal clamps). A good contractor or project manager will have to plan the operation to minimise the time spent at the site while doing a thorough job. We all know when mistakes occurs you'll spend twice or thrice the original amount to effect the correction. I do not think a client will scream wild fire if there's an issue with the logistics of the workers. Most times the client provides accommodation facilities to that effect. This idea of using oyibo to compare yourself while in Nigeria is highly uncalled for. If you're a professional and worth your salt you'll not be in "nairaland" forming an expatriate and seeking for jobs. This forum is actually to share ideas and not to prove you're better than others. We all have ways towards achieving our set goals. The most important thing is getting it right and making your client happy and not feeling he spent more than he should.

I definitely know what I am doing with this one but I think this idea of getting a 'big' project is being taken too far. No need to roll the dice on every one that invites you to quote - its not free money with a lot of us.

Chairman Spider has said it all, the only area i see again is the cost of plywood and time to construct the formwork is a bit more costly and take more time to do than that of flat design,furthermore it take much time and a little difficult for mason to plaster the curve design.

. I do not think construction cum engineering projects were meant to be outright simple jobs. It's all about thinking, ideas and innovations.
