PoliticsRe: Asari Dokubo's Mansion In Port Harcourt by BlackBaron: 3:14pm On Jun 15, 2013
This pales in comparison to another ex MEND leader's multi-mansions on extensive hectares of land shown on CNN.

Same ol' chit. All the Rulers and Self appointed leaders ala Dokubu & co are just glorified bunch of opportunistic money grabbers.
Uncle Joe is of Niger Delta stock but has done nada. Dokubo's cashed out and relocated to Benin Republic with choice 'vacation homes' all over Nigeria. Meanwhile, the children of the Niger Delta are still waking up to destroyed farmlands, enduring pollution, extreme poverty and feck all.

Your problems aint your ethnicities, it is rather your lack of common sense or foresight to elect leaders that know their onions.
Elections in 2 years time and everyone's been psychologically bludgeoned into a state of comatose arguing over a man from Otueke and a divisive controversial ex Statesman.

PoliticsRe: India, Nigeria's Biggest Consumer, Discovers Oil by BlackBaron: 11:36am On Jun 10, 2013
Abagworo: Still boils down to what I've always said.

1) Oga Jonathan please develop Niger Delta with your remaining 2 years and stop wasting all the money on retaining power.

2) Grant the States economic autonomy so that dependence on oil will reduce as States will fend for themselves. The offshore goes to FG so your share remains.

3) Invest more on Agriculture and Agricultural/biotechnology courses in our higher institutions. Make Agriculture the most attractive employment for youths.

4) Allow our refineries function so that we can use the oil ourselves if they refuse to buy.

5) Encourage the Aba shoes and allied products because that could be our next highest foreign exchange earner. Rebuild the city and create a condusive industrial area with access to standard machinery.

6) The "Kano Pyramids" and Western Cocoa can be revived if my point 3 (give priority to Agriculture) is well applied. Its possible if Obasanjo could do it with cassava.
You Sir is bang on the money.

Pity Nigeria doesnt know chit about contigency plans.

Our country is the only country amongst the 37th-41st biggest gdps/economies(rankings based on different international financial organisations) in the world that still manages to be ranked low in the human development index (hdi)

van bonattel: You can travel back in time, stand in Lagos in 1966 and claim your name is Chibuzor, Yoruba people will kill ya azz boy.......... you have not read enough books, keep reading.......
This aint no back to the future chit Uncle. Stop being emotional, if you have read any such books kindly furnish me.

Besides heres another claim that I find spurious. On page 66 of TWAC, concerning independence - 'the igbos ... literally drove them (The British) out of Nigeria' according to Achebe.

I thought our independece was a collective effort?
Anthony Enahoro first moved the motion for independence which was rejected until Chief Remi Fani Kayode successfully pushed it through in 1958 and ultimately Tafa Balewa pushed an amended motion in 1960.

Duru1: I guess some folks do not understand the reason history is declared a subject.
Stop being condescending. I dont do infantile conversations. You aint talking to one of those like for like tribalists like you either.

Duru1: During the period in discussion, Ndigbo and other easterners were killed in Ibadan, Abeokuta and Lagos. Even Yoruba peeps that were light in complexion had to reprove themselves as Yoruba or non-easterner to avoid being lynched.
I have looked up articles, news reports or books from that period and haven't come across such. There are no hits for that either on google, not even Wiki
Can you furnish me further...?
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by BlackBaron: 10:13pm On Jun 01, 2013
Duru1: You have just displayed one of the reasons Africans will remain behind the curve of development. Please desist from approaching issues of literary subject with a narrowed mind of preconceived notion.
Raising questions to a book...is 'one of the reason Africans will remain behind the curves of development' according to you abi.
I'll act like you made a shed load of sense there.

Duru1: Were Abeokuta, Ibadan and Lagos in western region or not? Were Igbo and other easterners not killed in those cities during period in discussion in Achebe’s narratives? I guess your social decorum would have been undisturbed if Achebe had used the word – kill instead of massacre.
I wouldn't ask anyone to defend the claim if I have heard of it before...the onus is on you to show or prove to me people were unlawfully massacred (or killed) before the civil war and I'll be a believer and even apologise.
If not then, that would mean Achebe lied.
Foreign AffairsRe: Breaking News: Ghana Scraps Fuel Subsidy by BlackBaron: 2:46pm On Jun 01, 2013
Nigeria's hdi remains low inspite of huge oil earnings. Where is the assurance that the extra diverted from subsidies would make a lot of difference?

If the government is serious about cutting subsidies, they should also cut down on government salaries in kind too.
Foreign AffairsRe: Breaking News: Ghana Scraps Fuel Subsidy by BlackBaron: 2:12pm On Jun 01, 2013
The price increase was only 2.5% on average for petrol and diesel.

Fuel subsidy should indeed go but then indexes of development has hardly improved after all the income garnered from the huge oil largese Nigeria has earned.

What is the assurance money from oil subsidies would improve the life of the common man.

ACM10: Are you this thick or do you have comprehension problem? Can't you see that he was reporting as a third person? Grab the catchword there "There were more and more reports". Show me where Achebe made an explicit claim of massacre in the west in his book. The problem with people like you is that you don't read books written by authors you dislike with an open mind.
grin grin Talk about selective amnesia.

Didnt know the norm now is to report unsubstantiated reports as facts.
This was meant to be his own 'personal'account - no?
Or is it now a 'Third person report?' Lest you know 'Words are very powerful (especially from a renowned writer like Chinua) Therefore, it is important to use them truthfully, accurately, and responsibly.' Reporting... of 'information requires both factual and accurate presentation.'

All other claims were shown with reference, yet a weighty issue as genocide with blame pointing to others is reported without fact.

You sound like an absolute idiot, they say the truth is indeed bitter. I critique a piece of his work now means I dislike Chinua or did you see me dilly dallying over the posthumous title conferred by some as the 'Father of African literature' title. Please go dig up my comments from the controversial Hall of Shame thread last year.

Now You need to pick up a school bag and return to Kindergarten.

Nairaland GeneralRe: Does Flogging Have A Place In Modern Nigerian Society? by BlackBaron: 2:20pm On May 25, 2013
To the idiots still justifying use of koboko.
Pray tell how many lashes you could endure.

I went to a secondary school where koboko was the tool of choice.

After being whipped with it, it was not uncommon to see students walking around with blood stains on their backs and scars that last weeks or few months.

I am for moderation but sadly Nigerians have never heard of such a word.

I have read and seen the folly of both sides during the civil war and especially the genocide by the Nigerian side during the civil war...

But

For the third time on this forum, I ask for proof of genocide of igbos in the SW as written in Achebe's book.

Narcissism slowly creeping in to this dude's head.

His first 3 albums rank as one of the greatest rap albums. (My opinion)
His offerings after My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy has been here and there for me.
PoliticsRe: Wole Soyinka's Interview About Chinua Achebe by BlackBaron:
WS has bitten the bullet.
I have read but only a little snippet of 'There was a country' and can only say some comments from Achebe were unfortunate.

A major sticking point was the claim of genocide of Igbos in the SW in the events leading up to the war. So far I've looked and read through dozens of articles, books and newspaper s of that period and yet to see any evidence of this. Only seen this claim in Achebe's book so far...

When you start importing more armored cars than Iraq and Afghanistan (two countries known as the hometurf of alqaeda and taliban) then you know there's something extremely wrong somewhere.

Startling we even top latin America which includes Mexico, Venezuela et al. The former regarded as one of the most violent societies matched with a 70000 death count.

texazzpete: And you can probably buy a dual core HP touchpad running WebOS for 20k. Your point?
Point is playbook is a versatile tablet irrespective of os.
Its still handy than a few android tablets.

Well made, cheap and ability to sideload android apps.
HP touchpad is just there, unless you got some technical nous to root, or run custom roms. Not a lot to enjoy...

@ Leopantro
A playbook is definitely still a better device than other android tablet considering its low price point.

A 64gb is only about #26 grand comes with dual core, stereo speakers, 1080p recording and an apple esque build quality.
