Please Do I require my International Passport for IELTS. My Passport just expired and yet to be renewed. The international passport is the only ID document accepted by British Council for IELTS. You need to get a new passport as an expired passport is not a valid document and won't fly

Also my surname on the expired Passport is on my maiden surname but I applied on ECA with Marriage surname. Does it matter. You can renew the passport with your maiden name or your married name, it does not matter as you're the same person. A copy of your marriage certificate will explain the name difference

Must I renew with my Marriage name or I can still retain the renewal on the Maiden name. Either one is fine for the IELTS and for your EE application, the choice is yours
Thank you to everyone. May God bless everyone.

Hi, see above.

I understand bro. But since am using one of my siblings account statement i dont need to show my personal statement account, right?

If you are applying for skilled worker PR, you can only use your own account, that of your spouse or a joint account with your spouse. You can not use the account statement of any other family member to complete a skilled worker application for PR.

If you are applying for a student visa, then that is another ball game where you may need to show a sponsor's account statement accordingly. I can't help with this as you will need guidance from someone who understands how the student visa application process works. Please clarify your position so the house can assist you appropriately.

Are there government sponsored agencies that can help with your resume and cover letter where you are?

Yes, she mentioned Acces Employment that offers integration and job preparedness training for foreign trained professionals.

Hello everyone, pls do I need to book an appointment for my medical examination at q-life or any other approved hospital? Please for those that have gone through their medicals. Thanks

It's proper to call ahead and make an appointment. However, if you arrive very early at QLife, say around 7am don't be surprised to see people from out of town who have been there since 6am, waiting to crash the queue. For Children's Practice, without an appointment, you might end up waiting for them to be through with persons who had an appointment before they'll attend to you if they have space. Others with experience about IOM in Ikeja as well as PH and Abuja clinics can share their experience.

1.Secondary School Teacher: 4031- skill level A.
2.Financial Sales Representative : 6235- skill level B.

I can get reference letters for the two jobs although the salary for the first was handed in cash.

Please ensure that the reference letter clearly indicates that you were paid in cash, all the best.

Yeah I already read all those landing experiences , and read them again just now, there's nothing for Turkish airlines. I'm actually asking cos I plan to travel with them and would like have an idea what to expect.

I used Turkish Airlines, great airline. For my kids there was in-flight entertainment from Lagos to Istanbul and then onwards to Toronto. The transit period in Ataturk Airport in Instanbul was also great. They have a modern, international airport, very clean and large with lots to see. The kids had a ball running around, lots of restaurants and fast food places with duty free shops for window shopping. The 7 hours stopover flew by quite fast. Both legs of the flight were very okay, the kids are used to international flights so the food was not a problem for them. Our luggage all arrived with us in good condition, In all, I would recommend Turkish Air.

From the above, I can have two and a half years experience as a teacher (using this as the primary NOC) and 9 months experience as a bank marketer (a different NOC) and be eligible as well as get maximum immigration point for work experience.... Is this correct?

What skill level as a teacher and what skill level as a bank marketer does your work fall under? Have you identified the NOCs and can you get employer reference letters that reflect these work experoences? You need to determine these key issues first.

If your funds are in your personal account, you'll need to send the account statement as proof. That is what is referred to as POF, Proof of Funds.

Good afternoon everyone,

I keep seeing conflicting info on the number of years required for any job one is choosing NOC for. Is it a minimum of 1 year or 3 years please? Thanks.

To be eligible for Express Entry on the work experience criteria, you need a minimum of one year experience in an occupation under Skill level 0, A or B. To get the maximum points available for work experience, you must have 3 or more years verifiable experience in an eligible occupation.

No, it makes no difference using one. All the info you need for a successful application can be found all through this thread. The guidance and support you freely receive here surpasses what an an agent can do for you, all the best.

Do the Visa office truly verify employment history physically?

On a random basis, they may contact the employers of selected applicants for verification of employment details. NDVO does physically verification but so far, AVO usually calls or sends email to the concerned HR where they have need for such verification. AVo goes af far as to sometimes ask applicants to obtain and send the business registration documents of their employer and also take pictures of their office, the interior and exterior environments and even send samples of their work for review. This happened with a lady who applied via FSW 2014. She was a contract staff with Chevron, Lekki and had to provide the above. I had to advise her to take the pictures of her office during their TGIF party to avoid the suspicion of her colleagues and Chevron security department. She was successful with her application.

Thanks. I have a mindset coach (she said she also turns peoples'challenges to opportunities) staying temporarily with us (me and my landlady) and she is like trying to tune my mindset to feeling positive about my job hunt. She asked of my strengths and i mentioned that i have a thirst for knowledge and like transfering what i have learnt to others she was like example? I used this immigration process as an example and she said Companies already know you have those qualifications and there are a handful that have better qualifications but they want to know they aint employing someone who will rock their boat. That you should use real life scenarios to highlight your strengths during your interview process.

God has been ordering the steps of the right people towards me. I had a good session with her.

Nice approach and be sure to work closely with Victoria and Eva at Acces, Mississauga. Once they notice you have a quick aptitude and are open to suggestions, they will share more info with you and push opportunities your way.

Please note I replied with the belief you're coming as permanent residents which means you can work and are job ready. If this is the case and considering that your child is young, you can consider jobs that entail working from home. If I may suggest to you and others in similar situations, check out this link for stay at home customer care/support work, alpineaccessjobs.ca/recruiting/reg/login/

Good day all, I have been a guest reader on the thread for a few days and I say weldone to everyone.

** Long post alert**

I have learnt a couple of things but my story is different from what's being mostly discussed, so I need your inputs and thoughts....

My husband secured admission for MBA into Rotman, Toronto last month to start Sept 2018 and end 2020. The plan was to join him after study;myself and child(ren). But last week he suggested we all going together because a couple of his friends hinted that as that would be better for the family and all. This depends on the level of preparedness and to some extent, available cash flow to take care of the family. With determination, it is doable. I know one family here, the wife found me via Canadavisa.com a while back. She used to be a banker while the husband was a business man. They came over, hubby got into U of T while the wife was caring for their young son and taking her time to study the job market here. They got a 2 bedroom town house for about $1,500.00 monthly and a car which was within the budget they had prepared for them selves. A year later, the lady is working in a bank here, son is doing fine in elementary school and hubby is done with school and swimming in the job market, finding his place. The lady ofcourse opened her she had her fears all along when they trying to settle down but staying in touch and listening to positive testimonies gave her hope. The hubby is the 'we will make it as others have made it type', he was always asking questions, staying hopeful and had a similar plan like your hubby. We all came with the fear in our hearts but fear never stops a woman from carrying her pregnancy successfully. It's doable and in your own case, the success within you will be birthed. Just carry it with hope till it bursts forth

the thing is this, arrangement has been made for his study and for us too back home (rent; check, feeding; check). I'm presently out of job but slated for msc 2018. Hubby is saying pulling all the resources together will get us by in Canada till hes done with study i.e feeding money plus rent we'll collect and sale of other properties. Also that i can get something doing to help with bills.

with the change in plans now I'm scared of it all, I dnt wanna be stranded in Canada but hubby is going on and on about how its all gonna work out and that i should give my support and not be a killjoy. I'm to go renew my passport and also get for our baby. Reminds me of when we got HSMP visa back in 2009 and I sent my family ahead to London. By 2010, I decided that UK was not for me (personal convictions please) and I asked her to come back to Naija. By 2012, the bug to move was back so I faced Canada. I guess I had more confidence in Canada seeing as they weathered the global melt down better than most other countries. This time when PR came, there was no question of 'send family ahead', I was ahead of the train and we all came down, 5 man strong. I give God all the glory as the 5 man team is doing great. I got a job in my field at my same level, wifey who got a job before me is doing so well, she trains other new staff now in her group. The kids are semi-Canadians now, doing so well in school, teachers keep saying it must be because they are Nigerians, that Nigerians are like that. They come in, they take over. Was I ever scared after we came? Ofcourse I was, my blood is red and I'm only human. Did I consider going back? Capital NO, that bridge was burned so that my mind could focus on the task of making it here. How did I do it? I held on to the belief that He who gave me PR will give me life abundant and He came through. Did I sit on my ass waiting for dreams to turn to reality? Nope, I was out of the door everyday, taking my journey on my feet and my steps were ordered beyond my expectations. Can you do it too? Big yes, even better than how we that are here have done it because you come with your knowledge and our experience at your finger tips. Just don't stop asking questions and learning. Knowledge acquired is knowledge that can be utilized

So, good people, how's the plan and arrangement? is it feasible? any idea on cost of living for a month? rent for a 2 bedroom per month in Toronto? Rent can run from $900 to $2,500 for a 2 bed place, depends on your budget and taste. You could even consider getting a place in the suburbs and hubby takes the train to school downtown. Just to spread your options, whichever works for you feeding for 3 per month? This can run from $400 to however your taste and pocket dictates. It's just like Naija, different families, different tastes, 'cut your coat' as it fits your situation other miscellaneous? Used car Lots of used car dealerships and checking kijiji.ca, autotrader.ca etc now can give you a sense of what is available. When you land, people will introduce you to car dealers that can be trusted getting a job for myself? With a bit of time and focus, you can get a job you'll be happy in. Some people are able to land something fine in a relatively short period, for others it takes a bit of a while. I know another guy, after getting PR, he began to hunt via LinkedIn for job opportunities. I've mentioned him before, the guy with experience in electrical power systems. He landed an interview before even landing here. Once they knew he had PR, they set a date and he got his interview a day after he landed while still living in a hotel with his family. As God does things, the guy got the job. My wife got hers 3 months after we came, I got mine 6 months. My case was helped in that I attended a training program for foreign trained professionals. We all have different stories, dfiferent journeys but it can't be a journey if you don't venture out. Just do it with faith. Just as some of us get PR in 6 months and some got it after 2 years, the point is we applied and we eventually got it. There is no 'first position' for success. Remember what Nike says, Sometimes you have to just 'do it' any job? Noting wrong in doing what your hand finds to do. If you find something below the level of what you were doing before, take it till you get something better. If you want to focus on finding something commensurate with your skills, the ball is in your court. What matters most is you are ready to take the plunge do I also get my certificates verified as I've read? The verification already done (ECA) is sufficient though some employers like mine will independently verify if they have the need to. But if you haven't done it before and you know your Nigerian school is 'one kind' please, sort out your certificates and transcripts now, let your school file be in order. Once you leave Naija, it becomes super stress to sort those out. I had to settle a relative of mine to go to my school and sit down there till they sorted out my wife's file back when I was applying for PR. No time for stories. That's CNN's job, to be broadcasting issues of life how to go about settling down? Settling down is landing, activate your PR, get your SIN, open bank account, get a phone line, get an accommodation, fix your kids in school, get a car, focus on getting a job. It can happen in any order convenient for you, but that is all settling down is about. The rest is to take it one day at a time and keep your trust in God, He perfects all these things in His time child care? Depending on the age of your child. If she/he's above 4years now, they are set for elementary school and ,ost of the public school's have before and after school care programs where you can also register the child. That way, when you start working, you can drop your child there on your way to work and pick up after you're done with work for the day and things I cannot think of now....
pls and pls help a sister

Hi, please see above for what I could think of now. If you need any more clarification, just ask. I'm sure we here can assist to refine your research as things move along. All the best.

Thanks for always being articulate. Let me paint a scenario...

Ms X is moving to Canada on a short landing (<1 month)... Has need to see Family in Province X and will be there for about a week. She ultimately wants to live and work in Province YY. is it OK if she does the following.

1. Have her PR card sent to Family in Province X as she wont be around long enough for 6-10 Weeks delivery period. Yes, this is okay
2. SIN at Province X Yes
3. Open Bank account at Province XYes
4. Register for a mobile phone at Province YY (for proof of address) Okay, this could work although you can get a phone line in province X and when you get to province YY, have the address changed. For my phone line with chatr, I changed the address myself on my profile online when I changed address from city A to city B
5. Register for Health cover (if province YY has immediate health cover) in Province YY. She also has Family in Province YY and will stay with them during her stay. Good to go
6. Apply for government photo ID in Province YY as she will not have the time to take the Driving knowledge test & road tests. Good to go

Is there a conflict in the sequence of events esp the PR card address?. Also is it ok to use a single address (Province YY - final destination) for all listed above? Or can some carry Province X while others carry Province YY?

Cheers.

Hope the above helps.

Oh I See. Thanks for the info.
In that case it is advisable to sort out bank account before going for the health card.

Am just trying to figure out the right/most advisable sequence for processing/getting the following:
1.) Mobile Phone Day 1 or as close as possible
2.) SIN Day 1 or as close as possible
3.) Bank account Day 1 or as close as possible
4.) Health insurance (Ontario) In provinces where health cover is immediate, you can go ahead. For Ontario, it wont take effect until Day 90 so no rush
5.) Accomodation ( I will be staying with family for the first three weeks) You can begin to make enquiries now to get a sense of what is available in your locality. You might stumble on a great deal that makes sense to grab soon. A guy In Mississauga, Ontario was just walking on the street, entering various apartment buildings and making enquiries when he found a building with vacancies and they accepted his application for a place, waiving the need for credit history and employment letter. He was in the right place at the right time especially as a Canadian lady who came in to submit an application for the same vacancy was not given the place for reasons best known to them

Please feel free to add anyone I'm missing.

Thanks.

PR Card? I thought that came after about 8-10 Weeks. Is one allowed to use COPR?

In Ontario, PR card would come long before you can go for health card registration. This way you can have both Canadian driver's licence and PR card as proof of ID.

If you're in Ontario then you get health cover after 90 days/3 months. You will need to bring these documents with you to any Service Ontario location:

1. A completed Registration for Ontario Health Insurance Coverage form which you will get at the office
2. Three separate, original (not photocopies or printouts of electronic documents) identification documents:
A. one that proves your Canadian citizenship or OHIP-eligible immigration status (e.g. Canadian birth certificate, Permanent Resident Card )
B. one that proves you live in Ontario (e.g. Ontario Driver’s Licence, income tax assessment)
C. one that supports your identity (e.g. credit card, passport from any country)

In bold font are the readily available materials to get you registered.

Thanks @ Salford 1 and Blackbuddy and all the seniors in the house for always being helpful . In addition to this i just did my Ontario health card and they accepted our lease agreement as proof of residence so the docs submitted/shown were passport, PR card and lease agreement

You're welcome Ma and yes, rent/lease agreement or building purchase document can suffice for proof of residence. What I listed are just examples and not exhaustive, all the best ahead.

culled from https://www.immigroup.com/news/best-bank-newcomers-canada

So this was from a 2016 article. Can elders confirm if this info is still valid?

Hi, most of the bank packages have been revised since when these came out but it's a good idea of what is available. Checking the website of each bank will reveal their new products currently in place like Presidents Choice that was operated by CIBC is now independent. CIBC has replaced it with Simplii Financial. In summary, all the banks have competitive products as they are competing for the same customers and you can always open multiple accounts with different banks for different purposes. You can open cheque account with one bank, keep investment in another bank and get mortgage from yet another. They all keep trying to outdo each other so you always have choice, cheers.

Thanks everyone for your kind answers, I truly appreciate

What I wanted to know is if the person is profiled as ACCOMPANYING, gets the PR, but returns to Nigeria to work FULL TIME, will be person be subject to Filing of Tax Returns in Canada?

Yes as a permanent resident you must DECLARE your income, wether earned in Canada or abroad. However, it is not for the purpose of taxing you but to measure how much you are eligible for social insurance. That is why everybody gets a SIN, it is this unique ID that is tied to you to know how much you earn, how much you get as subsidy for child care, how much is spent on you for public health care, if you receive grants etc. All citizens and PRs must file taxes yearly wether you are in Canada or not and you can indicate where you earned your income. Canada does not currently tax income earned abroad, hope it's clear now.

Hello House,
I have 2 clarifications to make:

1. To make up for POF, in the letter from the PFA stating that one can access 25% of funds, does the PFA need to attach the statement of the pension funds? Or will just the letter suffice? Of course you will need to attach the statement for the pension fund account to show where the 25% is coming from

2. Is there a way one can correct the occupation written on the marriage certificate? My spouse's occupation on our marriage certificate is inconsistent with the job being done. Note that CIC has the information of work from previous application, although the marriage certificate has never been presented. You can either request the registry to reissue the marriage certificate with the occupation corrected (you will need to settle in the naija way) or you can attach a sworn affidavit and a Letter of Explanation stating the correct occupation and indicating the occupation captured on the marriage certificate at issuing point was done in error

Note: its federal registry ikoyi

What is the time frame for getting PR card after landing?

Hello all,

If one has a sibling who is almost at the stage of getting PPR, when can a principal applicant add her details to get the extra 15 points?

1. As soon as she get PPR email
2. After she lands in canada
3. After she receives her PR card

It would be after receiving PR card and getting a document like Canadian driver's licence and/or utility bill with their name and a Canadian address indicated on it to prove the ties here.

Please I need advice on this.

I submitted a request for a reference letter to the HR in my organization through my director and he returned it, telling me to state where the letter would be addressed to and for what purpose I needed one. The problem is, I dont intend to reveal my intention to obtain a Canadian PR. Is there anyway around this? For instance, can I state that I intend to apply for a Canadian visa and as such have them address it to the Deputy High Commission in Lagos? But then will IRCC have a problem seeing the reference letter addressed to the High Commission?

Please advice

thank you!

You can obtain the reference letter in the guise of a visit visa application and have it addressed to the High Commission in Nigeria, it is acceptable and you can butter things up by attaching a letter of explanation that the ref letter was prepared in that way so as not to jeopardise your current employment and working relationship with your company at this time. It is widely understood by IRCC and the VOs that not everybody is able to openly pursue PR applications and receive the assistance of their employers for it.

Thanks for the info. Did you have to get FRSC letter as well? learnt it's compulsory for Ontario.

Hi, FRSC letter is not compulsory in Ontario please. I came with just my Nigerian Driving licence showing that I have over 3 years driving experience. If however you need to get the FRSC experience letter, the format and experiences have been shared in the previous pages. Just scroll backwards or search the thread.

Landed in Ontario. Please when and how do I initiate my healthcard and drivers licence?

Welcome to Canada! You can get your health card registration done at any Service Ontario location near you, https://www.ontario.ca/page/serviceontario-locations-hours-and-contact

Drivers licence can be obtained at any Drive Test centre in Ontario, https://drivetest.ca/find-a-drive-test-centre/alphabetical_list.html?language_id=1
