TheWatcher212: Nice write up. I have a few questions. If i land in Toronto because i have some engagements, but ultimately bound to live and work in Alberta... is it ok to wait till i get to Alberta before registering for things like SIN, Health, bank accounts et al?
Kindly advise. You can get your SIN in Toronto, it is a Federal reference number and is valid all over the country. You can also open your bank accounts in Toronto or any other city, you are free to operate your account from anywhere. For health care, you will need to wait till you get to your destination province of Alberta where you will get instant cover. Hope this answers your questions. |

Chinlov: Hello seniors. Pls does anybody know the maximum age for Nigerians? I was once informed that Canada is not for anybody above 40 from Nigeria while other countries is 45. Pls help Hi, there is no maximum age per se for any country but anyone applying for anywhere is guided by the same set of rules and requirements. There are points allocated for your age as at when you apply, see the table below. People who appear to be advanced in age and lose points there can make up points from other selection factors such as education, work experience and English language ability. I recommend you go and read about Express Entry yourself so you can operate from an informed stand point about each selection factor, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-factors.asp

pauloverdi: Greetings fellow Canadians (and wannabes... lol na play I dey ooo)
I finally departed lagos via Ethiopian airways last friday (22 sept). Had 8 bags for a family of 4 and 6 hand luggages. All this stuff after repeatedly warning the packing crew (madam and family) to limit the weight to recommended levels. Well we made it tru without much hassle. All the official's didn't give us any hassle after they saw my little terror squad (kids) already terrorising us. Nobody check our food stuff. At Toronto customs they just collected the declaration card and asked us to proceed. Got me wishing that I had brought more stuff. The food served on the Ethiopian airline flights was just there. Na only d rice make sense joor. And please try to eat if u have time to before joining a connecting flight in canada. On my connecting flight within Canada they were only accepting credit cards as payment for food.well I made it to a warm bed by 11pm, Vancouver time on saturday, but it was around 9 am on Sunday in nigeria. We thank God for his grace. On Monday we went out to look at some apartments and get sin numbers. We also rrgist red for medical insurance. We couldn't get service BC Identity cards because we needed our pr cards as part of the two id''s to present. They wanted our passports and our pr cards. So we will need to visit again for that. Have found the town we r in to b nice and quiet. Well that's all for now. Lemme face my daddying duties. Omo na now I appreciate my kids nanny!!!!! I ALSO MISS SPANKING THE KIDSS!!! ARGHHHH! lol. This tough daddy has been humbled by laws. It seem's my kids (4 & 6) were just waiting to come here ooo. They have become "AWARE" like skynet. Thank God the Lil one has a yr to wait before he starts school. God will help us to adjust. Nice landing story, welcome to Canada |

Shalomdee: Hey guys, I really need your advice. A woman got pregnant for a schoolmate in Higher Institution, the guy actually impregnated her deliberately because he wanted her to be trapped with him. This guy is of a very dubious character and has duped a lot of people and done a lot of fraudulent things. When the lady found out all the wicked things he was into (along with getting involved in diabolic stuff), she decided to call it quitts after she was delivered of the child (female). The guy threatened her with all manner of threats but she refused to go back on her decision.
After a few years she eventually met a young man genuinely interested in her who wants to marry her, the lady is scared of commitement because she does not want a situation where she would get married and the ex would come back to demand for his child and make trouble. She does not want to give her ex custody of the child because of his dubious and wicked character.
Is there a law in the country that would support her as the mother of the child to have complete custody of the child since the child was born out of wedlock? Can her new husband formally adopt the child as his legally?
Please lawyers and people with such knowledge should comment. Mods, take this to front page as it is a very delicate situation. You will need to engage a family lawyer who will assist to gain sole custody of the child from the law court. It will involve both parents meeting in court in other to exercise right of fair hearing and the judge will rule accordingly based on evidence and testimony presented. All the best. |

Jugdement: Madam! Please don't go astray. You always need a lie to cover up another, so please don't start.
My opinion on this, if the 437 is with the "correct" 2 years experience, please use it asap. You will most likely get an ITA by the next draw which should be between 2 - 3 weeks. You also have six (6) weeks to submit a request for remark, so waiting for 2-3weeks for a draw is a well calculated risk.
Note that you can no longer use the Ielts result once you submit it for remark.
Best of Luck. This is sound advice. You only need a minimum of 1 year work experience to be considered for EE, you don't need to have 3 years just to claim maximum points. As pointed out, if with 2 years experience you have 437 points total, you're better off than a lot of people and should be in the pool awaiting the blessing of a favorable draw soon. Please don't 'help your destiny' by 'amending' your work experience/personal history, it never works out well and the possible penalty is 5 years ban for misrepresentation. All the best ahead. |

trishachi: Thanks Bro. Very helpful as always.
And for people in Lagos, where can they collect from? Hi, I've made a little enquiry and found that since Abuja is the Head quarters, that's where it is issued from. It's free of charge and they used to send the hard copy by DHL to people free as well but I guess the cost put paid to that. There are claims that people are getting it for as high as N20,000.00 in Lagos but I've not been able to confirm where and how true. For now, I think it's best you make enquiry at the Zonal Command close to you or get your family/friends in Abuja to pick it up and send to you. If I get more details, I'll surely share it. |

czaratwork: Good morning all. please i want to ask some questions and need urgent response.
Those that got their credentials notarised, did you have any need to use the notarised copies? i want to go and do mine today at ikeja court. Apart for the PR application process, you wont have much need for the notarized copies of credentials here as you will need to present the originals where applicable like for schooling or for recruitment with some employers
Then for our electronic gadgets (phones, laptops) any idea of how and where to get the adapters (step down) that will work in canny or is there no need to worry about that? For phones and laptops, you can get the power cord or adapters at your neighborhood electronics/dollar stores between $5 and $20. Very easy to find, just take a walk and shop around
Am i to make the list of accompanying goods and goods to follow on a plain sheet or is there a form to download online for that? If i am to make the list how does it look like. i remember seeing someone write here that you will put a price/cost to all items listed. People have complained of not being able to find the form online recently but it doesn't matter as you can make a simple excel table with different columns to capture the approximate value of all your electronics, clothes, educational materials/books, jewelry etc, Just categorise your belongings into these various headings and put an estimated Canadian dollar value for each category. Then put a Grand Total for everything. You can make one table for goods accompanying and another for goods to follow and give both to the Customs officers when you land, they will enter your details into the system and print it out for you, stamp it and give you your copy
I have no one to stay with when i land, i am yet to book for where i will stay. any suggestions on how to go about booking reservations (not hotels o) and companies that render such short stay accomodation because i intend to look for accomodation from where i will stay temporarily. Do i have to pay for the accomodation before leaving naija or can i pay when i get there? AirBnB as already mentioned and kijiji.ca are some avenues where you can find furnished, short term accommodation. Payment mode is as required by the landlord or building management you're dealing with but thread with caution for upfront payments. Just like in Nigeria, there are dubious persons aplenty on online market places. In my case, I just checked into a hotel with my family and took my time to find my permanent accommodation after in-person inspection of what was available. Please use whichever system works for you
Then my luggages, i have seen that such companies will pick you up from the airport. i really need such services as i cant pay taxi fare for my landing luggages over there (okoro woman). Uber is readily available as rightly already mentioned. Taxi companies and car rentals are also aplenty at the airport. Some companies that offer short let accommodation also provide airport pick up service but not all, you'll find which ones do when you check online. All the major hotel chains provide free shuttle service from the airport to their locations as well. You can confirm this when you make your reservations. I used Best Western Plus and they have shuttle service that runs hourly
I am leaving on Monday 25th 1.30pm naija time to Land on Tuesday 7.30am canny time. Hi, I can see you have gotten great responses already so I only have a little to add as you can see above. All the best with your trip. |

impish: Hi Blackbuddy and thanks for the useful resources.
Just to mention that our scanned copy of the FRSC letter was rejected last week at the Ottawa test centre we went to. We were told to return when we had the original hard copy. Our experience may have just been due to the lady who attended to us, but just thought to mention anyway. We never intended to write the test that day anyway, so we did not push. We had only gone to make enquiries and to see if my husband's temporary licence would be accepted.
Best,
Mrs. O www.mycanadianfling.com Thanks for sharing your experience. I didn't use the FRSC extract back when I got my Canadian licence but I know a chap who was able to get his processed using a printed copy. I agree with you that it depends on who's handling your request at their office. When I changed addresses here and went to get a new licence with my new address, the lady who attended to us didn't even bother to see our supporting documents! My wife and I looked at each other in amazement. So I guess who you interact with at the licensing office plays a part in how they handle your issue. I hope others have pleasant experiences. |

legendary4luv: thanks a million times for your quick response but will I be considered if I have one year work experience in any sector because I can't imagine myself working for naija for extra two years couple with the EE awaiting period, that's like 3-4 years in naija It has to be one year work experience in a job that is classified at either skill type 0, A or B and you will need to provide an employer reference letter to evidence your employment. See this extract from CIC website in that same link: Skilled work experience
Your work experience must be: •in the same type of job as your primary NOC •within the last 10 years •paid work (volunteer work, unpaid internships don’t count) •at skill type 0, or skill levels A or B of the 2011 National Occupational Classification (NOC) •at least 1 year (1,560 hours total / 30 hours per week), continuous: ◦full-time at 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours) ◦equal amount in part-time: 15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours) ◦full-time at more than 1 job: 30 hours/week for 12 months at more than 1 job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
You must show that you did the duties set out in the occupational description in the NOC. This includes most of the main duties listed.
If you can’t show that your work experience meets the description in the NOC, you aren’t eligible under this program. What's your work experience in? What do you do and can you get a reference letter as specified above? This is jus a start but you can go ahead and use the CRS calculator to simulate what your scores could be, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/crs-tool.asp |

legendary4luv: please house, this question might sound dumb but I need more clarification. can fresh graduate with no work experience apply for express entry and what are my chances? That would be difficult as Express Entry is a points based system with the points coming from distinct selection factors. Work Experience is one of the prominent factors and has significant points apportioned to it. See this extract from CIC website: Selection factors If you meet all the conditions set out in the minimum requirements, we’ll assess your application based on these selection factors: •age •education • work experience•whether you have a valid job offer •English and/or French language skills •adaptability (how well you’re likely to settle here) These factors are part of a 100-point grid used to assess federal skilled workers. You earn points for how well you do in each of the six factors. Your total points will show if you qualify for the Express Entry pool. The current pass mark is 67 points. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who.aspAnother avenue would be to apply as a Skilled Trades person but that would also require work experience among other issues. The remaining class of Express Entry is for those who qualify under Canadian Experience Class. You can review these in the above link. |

MrBigiman: Whats d minimum score to enter into d pool. Thanks. Hi, there's no minimum score per se but it's advisable to enter the pool with as high a score as possible because it's people with certain scores above a cut off that get invited to apply or receive ITA. The scores that receive ITA are determined through periodic draws and you can see the trend for past draws here, http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/express-entry/past-rounds.aspThe last 4 draws have had scores ranging from 433 to 441. |

Ballerz: Driving So I came to the driving centre today. The queue was s long. But I was determined to get that sorted and out of the way. Came with my Letter from FRSC, the license itself and Passport.
It got to my turn, did all the documentation, paid the 105 CAD, I proceeded to the screen. My heartbeat started racing faster than Dywane Johnson. This is the fate of the furious. I had seen people who did not pass and had to go queue up again (you pay 15 CAD for retake) but because of the queue and time, I really needed to pass. I had done enough practice test in Nigeria. (Here is the link I used. http://www.g1.ca/g1-practice-test/ Practice till you are clocking 100%. The questions were exact.)
Download the driving instructions manual and read when you are less busy or bored. When you have a good understanding of their rules, the practice test will be quite easy and a breeze. (Just Google it or send me a mail, I will fwd the pdf one I have).
I have also been told, if you are not sure, just skip. The test is divided into two sections. 1. Knowledge and Sign test. You can only fail four per section. So strategy is to ensure you get your 16 straight. So if you don't know/not sure, just skip so that even if na the last four you fail, you are good to go because once you fail more than four, the test stops. e.g. you fail number 1-5, that is game over.
So sha, I continued my test with heart racing, finally finally screen said I passed. I bounced off my seat like a boss awaiting my temporary license / result confirmation. Cheers folks Congrats on scaling the G1! For others yet to take the test, here are further sites where you can practice the exact questions that will come in the computer test for Ontario; Mobile site for the website used by Ballerz, m.g1.ca http://icandrive.ca/ontario/g1-practice-testwww.drivingtest.ca/g1-driving-test/https://apnatoronto.com/Ontario-g1-test/For those going to other provinces just navigate in the above sites to get your preferred destination and take their own tests. With consistent practice you wont need to study the handbook in-depth but getting 90% on the practice tests over and over has proven to be a good indication you're ready for the real thing. All the best. |
