Benwallt:
Senate President Godswill Akpabio on Thursday collapsed at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja and was rushed to the hospital.

SaharaReporters learnt that Akpabio slumped while seeing President Bola Tinubu off.

Tinubu and other dignitaries had gathered at the Congress Hall of the hotel for a colloquium to mark the 61st birthday of the Senate President in Abuja.

Sources told SaharaReporters that Akpabio was briefly stabilized before being taken to the hospital.

“Senate President Akpabio collapsed today after his 61st birthday colloquium in Abuja while seeing the President off.

“He was briefly stabilised before being rushed to the NNPC hospital in Abuja where he was wheeled into a special room on a stretcher,” one of the sources said.

“He has remained at the hospital.”

At the event, President Tinubu said the executive and legislative arms of government would jointly tackle the challenges confronting Nigeria.

Speaking at the colloquium on Thursday in Abuja, President Tinubu said the challenges facing the country will be jointly assessed by the executive and legislature to evolve implementable solutions for the good of Nigerians.

“Having Senate President Akpabio, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Right Honourable Abbas, on my side is enough for me to succeed, and we will succeed," a statement signed by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity quoted Tinubu as saying at the event.

“I believe in the person of Sen. Godswill Akpabio. He is truly in God’s will for his life. I was governor in Lagos State from 1999 to 2007, and he was a commissioner.”

Hope he get well soon...this is what happens when old men want to occupth positions that energetic and innovative young men should occupy let them move the country to the next level..a bam should be made that I can't contest for political post when u are above 50yrs. So by the time they av stolen all the money finish they would be too old..but theloop hole here is that it would give rise to godfatherism and cabal..or political syndicate where and individual who is elderly but very rich sponsors a young person to occupy an office as a puppet to do his bidding.

A TikToker has claimed that no government school, especially those in Lagos can confidently produce intelligent students.

The TikTok user who shared her experience during a teaching practice said she came to the assumption after engaging revision session with SS3 students.
most students who excel in public schools are a foundation in good private schools...imagine doing nursery to pry 5 or 6 in those British school that ppl pay 2 million per year and funds dry up and the bread winner eventually goes broke. And they move to a public school..they Av a better chance to succeed in a public school cos they have a solid foundation.

Jobs/VacanciesRe: Help! My Marriage Of Three Months About To Collapse. by Blitzking: 9:26am On Dec 14, 2023
Skillsmaster:
Good day nairalanders. Please come to my rescue. I will be brief as possible. Please ignore any grammatical or spelling error.
I lost my job (teaching job) two months to my wedding. About 10-15 of us lost our job in this same school, because of the economy of the country. I couldn't get any job after then, so I decided that I will postpone my wedding because of this but everyone except my younger brother kicked against it including my wife. I continued with the wedding plan believing that everything will fall in place soon. This is three months after my wedding, still no job. My wife has tried a lot, she has a shop and she has been very helpful all these while and I use to appreciate her for that. But of recent she started behaving somehow, which shows that she is tired of the situation and I am also tired of the situation. My wife told me that she can no longer continue like this. I was surprised because this is the same woman that was so angry when I told her about my plan to postpone the wedding. To be honest with you people, she has tried, I must commend her.
On my own side, I have searched for job to no avail, both teaching and non teaching. I reside in Abuja, I and one of my friends have trekked on many occasions submitting my own CV. Yet no call for interview. I am a mathematics teacher, before my marriage, I can't submit my CV in three to four schools without getting any invite for interview from two or all of them. But it is the opposite now.
I tried to get capital to even start a poultry farm because I am also good at that, but I couldn't get any. My wife is already "threatening the marriage" asking me to bring money which she knows that I don't have. She told me that she regrets this marriage and just saying all sort of things. She knows that I am not lazy. Even to get labourer work on site is not easy. I will stop here.

I am sorry for bothering you with this long write up. You can say anything you want to say but I will appreciate it if you can help out with a job. I want to have my home back. Thank you.

Note: I studied engineering. I worked as a site engineer for like two years before going into teaching.
Reading this makes me sad to my bones..no be me oo but e pain me.An engineer oo..I advise you go and do some a4 printouts and buy a new sim card..do a small advert..and place them at strategic positions saying you do private lesson for students" you want to ace you exams..I teach mathematics...further mathematics...physics...contact me..post them close to high brow schools and at the entrance of high brow areas.. ur luck fit shine and don't forget to pray. In the mean time learn some high end tech skills since you are an engineer it wouldn't be difficult. I wish u the best.

CareerRe: Suggestions: What Would Be The Minimum Hourly Pay Rate For The Nigerian Workers? by Blitzking: 1:39pm On Dec 12, 2023
BluntCrazeMan:
Preamble:
During the 2023 campaign period, part of the things which Peter-Obi promised that he would do in order to increase the “productivity” of the government workers was to phase-out the “Monthly Salary” system, and introduce an “Hourly-Pay” system, where the hours of work by the workers are calculated and paid at the end of the agreed periods of payment.

He promised that there would also be flexibility of how the workers chose to be paid...
Either Weekly, Biweekly, or Monthly.

He envisaged that this system would make workers to have control over their works by knowing exactly what they are supposed to do, and do it.. Then they can clock-out at the first job in order to go to the next job where their expertise are also needed and clock-in.

There won't be any fear of paying double salary to anyone who works at more than one place at a time.

Basic “Hourly Pay Rates” are calculated and paid for 8 hours per day.
They are the payments which are taxed by the Government.
(Any other extra hours above the maximum 8-hours are counted separately and paid as overtime, with some additional added percentages to it)

Then, 5 days per week. (That is, the weekdays).
Works that were done on the weekdays are the ones that were taxed by the Government.
(For someone who had worked completely for 5 days in any week, any other extra days above the maximum 5-days are counted separately and paid as overtime, with some additional percentages to it. Nevertheless, if the person didn't work completely for 5 days within the weekdays, and he hoped to cover-up the days of work within the weekend, he doesn't get an overtime on the number of weekend days of work which are below 5 days in a week,, but those works which he did on the weekends would not be taxed)

Then, for those that are paid monthly, Each month consists of 4-weeks..
Thus, actually making it 13-months in a year..
(And not the 12 months we used to know)

..
NOW, TO THE MAIN REASON FOR OPENING THIS THREAD:

The current minimum basic monthly pay in Nigeria is N30,000..
Which translates to N187.50 for each hour of work,, or N1,500 for each day at work, and N7,500 for each week.

The current minimum basic hourly pay rate in the United Kingdom (both for Government Workers and Private Workers) is £10 (ten-pounds)..
Which is about N11,000 in Nigeria - going by the CBN’s official rate for conversion..

I am not advocating for Nigerians to be paid up to N11,000 per hour of work in Nigeria.. To be frank, that amount is too high for the Nigerian economy to carey.. but at-least, something reasonable enough which our economy can actually carry at the moment.

LET US JUST SUGGEST WHAT WE THINK IS FEASIBLE AND OBTAINABLE..

What amount (in Naira) should be the “Minimum Basic Hourly Pay Rate” for the Nigerian Workers,, Both the Workers in the Government Establishments and those in Private Firms, including those who are employed by individual employers.

....
..
My own personal Opinion...
I am suggesting any amount between N1,500 and N2,000... (Per Hour Ooo.. Not Per Day)
It is still too small compared to other countries, but it is actually what the economy can actually sustain for now, and at the same time, bring out the very best outputs in the workers..

(To put it into the contest we can understand:
N1,500 per hour means:
N12,000 per day.
N60,000 per week.
And N240,000 per month..
...
.
N2,000 per hour means:
N16,000 per day.
N80,000 per week.
And N320,000 per month..)

NOW, YOU CAN SUGGEST YOURS...
for nigeria tobe a really prosperous nation...an hours job should be able to cater for your weekly food needs.

MT:
You are right regarding freedom to travel but that is just part of the story.

Lot of people have this passport but cannot even afford to buy ticket.

Powerful passport feeds no one, it is the value that you possess that will make life better. Sadly, a lizard in Nigeria does not turn crocodile abroad. A lizard will always be a lizard.

Even if you are stuck anywhere in the world, western govt will contact your people over there for flight money. They wont pay for you. In case of emergency, they will BORROW you money which you MUST pay back once you are back into the country.
I Very much agree with your point. A lizard cannot change location and become a crocodile...but its disheartening when life is made Unnecessarily difficult for a high flyer just becos of his country or some factors that can't just change..some Nigerian kids that can't go to school in nigeria..if they were born in USA they would av attended an ivy league institution..justthat in a first world country with goods standard of living they are not into education.. they prefer skilled jobs they can put more in their pocket

TravelRe: 11 Reasons Why You Must Japa From Nigeria by Blitzking: 8:40am On Dec 11, 2023
SaintUlot:
Outlined below are the 11 reasons why you must make sure you Japa from Nigeria:

1. For a bright future for you and your family, Japa is the only option you have. Future in Nigeria is looking bleak and cloudy at the moment, Japa now when you can.

2. If you want to live a quality life, give sound education to your kids, have access to comprehensive health care and top-notch life security, Nigeria cannot offer you all these, you can only have access to all these when you Japa

3. I am yet to see anybody that Japa from Nigeria and still remain poor. Poverty is only in Nigeria, once you leave Nigeria, you have bid farewell to Poverty for life. Confirm from all the people that have Japa, all of them are living in prosperity as i type this.

4. Immediately you leave Nigeria, all life and spiritual problems are over, that's why you see that when many people japa from Nigeria, they don't go to church and mosque again, simply because they have no reason to. The Government in their new country of residence have provided everything they needed, so no need to disturb God again. Life problems and Spiritual problems are only in Nigeria, they can't be found elsewhere.

5. Prosperity in Nigeria is by luck, not by hardwork, but elsewhere apart from Nigeria, if you are hardworking, you will surely reap the fruit of your hard work.

6. To Japa from Nigeria can be likened to going to paradise, As a Nigerian, Japa to us is our own paradise on earth, wouldn't you like to go to paradise?

7. Japa is what is Trending now, wouldn't you want to be a part of the new trend? Or you prefer to die inside trenches?

8. All your mates have all Japa, if you don't Japa like your mates too, Automatically you will be labelled a failure. Look around, how many of your school mates and childhood friends are still in Nigeria? All of them have all left and they are all enjoying themselves in their new country of residence.

9. Living anywhere else apart from Nigeria is better. Yes, you heard me right, When you are ready to Japa, ignore all those people saying "do your due diligence" doing due diligence is asking for too much. Anywhere you land yourself, even with your N500,000 savings, is a better place to live than Nigeria.

10. I don't think we still have up to 5 million people left in Nigeria, everybody don japa, do you want to be the only person left in Nigeria when the remaining people Japa?

11. When you Japa from Nigeria, you have Automatically add 30 years to your lifespan, mortality rate is high in Nigeria for obvious reasons, but elsewhere apart from Nigeria, life expectancy is very high.
The greatest beneficiaries of japa would be my offspring..the freedom to just book a flight and literally fly the world...no labelling no unnecessary attention..they might still be labelled cos of their skin colour but having a powerful passport is out of this world.
