raumdeuter:Exactly, some words won't just come to u. In fact there are some Yoruba names that people bear that u won't even know the meaning as a Yoruba person except u ask the bearer of the name what it means. |
swiz123:Ur fears are clearly legitimate. One day when I was expressing my fears to that my oga on how dangerous the whole journey sounds ; he bluntly told me I don't want to know how dangerous it can get. He said he once boarded one and suddenly he saw the operator dive into the lagoon. Only for him go come up with the boat engine in his hands. Like the boat engine literally removed and only the boat operator knew. I just feel the whole journey is a risk not worth taking at all. |
iamoyindamola:I don't know where people get the confidence to use those speedboats knowing fully well we don't have a working emergency care in place. |
Ibime:These speedboat are what people generally refer to as Ferry on Lagos waters and they ate very fast like he claimed. People living In Ìkoròdu but working at VI or CMS/Marina always prefer it because of its speed, but is very very unsafe. I had one one boss that will park his official and personal cars at home to join these boats cos it saves him from traffic. But each time there's a reported case of a boat mishap ( which happens at least once in 3 months); everybody starts calling his number to check on him hoping his boat was not affected. People get mind for this country sha. It can never be me |
afrodoc2:I understand it is the producer's duty to provide life jacket but I also believe the actors themselves owe themselves duty of care not to board the boat having confirmed the life jackets were not provided. I wonder what Blacklisting the producer will achieve. It's not like almost everybody is not guilty of the offence they are accusing the producer of. Let's hope they AGN as a group will take safety issues serious and not just stop at this reactive measures instead of being proactive going forward |
enigma0:The issue is not whether the topic was taught or not, it's about how many people actually remember anything about it. It's just the same way those guys may have heard the word INCULCATE before used in sentences but can't even remember what it means. |
afrodoc2:Exactly. Na Late fall hand pass ; how can she not have used the word before if she reads and write the language having gone to conventional school? |
What's this talk about the Actors Guild of Nigeria cancelling the producer of the movie the Pope guy went for before the unfortunate incident? How is cancelling her and barring other actors from working with her going to change anything? The video made before the unfortunate incident showed everyone in that video was glad to risk their lives nit wearing life jacket. They were all grinning and smiling making videos without having life jacket on. I don't think the producer could've forced the life jacket on them. I don't understand why they are making the producer of the movie a scapegoat. It's more like the people are angry and looking for who to transfer aggression to |
Theflint1:Most of the footballer's on the show didn't attend conventional schools. They mostly attended academies where they are more interested in learning football than listening when a language instructor is telling them the meaning of INCULCATE. I gave an example of a Yoruba word that most average Yoruba person didn't really know despite studying Yoruba to WAEC level. It's not like a Yoruba person hasn't heard the word before, he just doesn't really care about the word and what it means. |
[quote author=Amigoss post=129376250]Native English speakers have never heard the word inculcate before just the same way their are some words in ur local language u don't know but a non-native speaker who studied the language knows . For example if u ask a random Yoruba person what is "ẹ̀ẹ́dẹ́gbẹ̀rin", he or she may not know but someone who as a non-native speaker that learnt Yoruba may casually tell u it is 700. I know a man in his late 70's whose both parents are from Cross river state, but he was born and bred in Lagos. This man can read Yoruba bible without having any difficulty pronouncing any word. He even corrects his age mate whom are native Yoruba speakers when they read and don't get the Yoruba pronunciations right |
izzou:It suddenly dawned on him that getting booked till September is not the bigger picture after all; it's life after that period that matters . I wish him the best. Hopefully we will will all learn one or two lessons from how this whole matter ends up |
izzou:People can get flung out of the window while the bus is somersaulting; it's doesn't necessarily need to be through the door |
iamoyindamola:I knew this would happen, especially with the yellow buses . Most of them don't even have mirrors nor pointer light. When they want to change lane, they will be using hand to wave u driving at high speed down 🤦♂️ |
Olowunl01:Well, maybe for argument sake let's agree FG does all that for Air Peace at no extra cost , so how does Air Peace turn that to increased profitability in the long run ? In all of these ; all I see is air peace trying to survive in an international space where so many foreign airlines have already gained enough market share . Air Peace like most Nigerian airlines has been enmeshed in controversies around flight delay , poor customer delivery , etc . Dem dey get normal regular 4ck up on normal local route . Now imagine I want to travel abroad and there's air peace that has disappointed me on local flights few times and then there's BA . Let's say air peace is $700 and the BA is $650. No matter the amount of patriotism I have , I will gladly opt for BA. I won't care about supporting our own at that point . |
larride:Baba, there is no law that sets the amount of profit margin u can have added to ur cost price to derive selling price . Air Peace thinks price reduction is a great strategy ; by cutting down on ur profit margin , u can get a large chunk of the market share . Suddenly everybody follows his thought pattern and u discover that other companies can decide to go lower with their profit margin just to maintain their market share . It's only Air Peace that can save itself and not government . |
larride:Okay , in this case what sort of protectionalism do u think will suit Air Peace . Let's not forget that it was Onyeama himslef that brought the price reduction strategy in a bid to bite a chunk of the market share . Will the government now ban other companies from reducing their own prices too in order to keep Air Peace afloat ? Won't that be defeating the aim of having competitors in order to have competitive prices in the market ? Even going by how much interviews Onyeama has granted since this recent launch; he appears to be at loggerheads with those regulating our aviation sector here in Nigeria . A person who wants to enjoy the government's good graces does not go about having issues with almost all the agencies that have a say in his business operation in the country |
izzou:E shock am; e no fit believe him eyes say na the same strategy he bring dem don quickly weaponize against him and his business . What people need to understand is that in any market where there's little or no government interference , business is WAR! And everybody will fight for him interests . U see what Onyeama did with that sudden price reduction; he rattled the board of different companies . By that one move , he has made the cars of some directors hang in the balance , he has made the appraisal of some senior staff far less desirable and has set path to which those competitors will lose market share thereby reducing their income . All those people needed to do was to identify his strategy as a potential threat to their means of livelihood and they quickly devised means to respond to him in like manner . I don't envy him right now |
afrodoc2:He just wants to milk the people's emotions ni ; but he's forgotten no amount of patriotism will make a Nigerian to patronize a Nigerian brand at a higher price compared to a foreign carrier's. If he's not prepared to play the long game on this matter ; he can as well just admit the strategy is counter productive |
What u see happening to Air Peace is after effects of "unhealthy competition" in a market economy . Na Air Peace use him hand bring the price reduction strategy in a bid to gain more market share at the launch of his new flying route; now this is the existing competitors responding with their own move. I don't understand why Allen Onyeama is crying tho. Na u devise strategy , na u implement am, na au dey go from TV station to another analyzing the strategy to anyone that cares to listen ; now the strategy team of ur competitors have taken up the challenge to counter ur moves and u are shouting " evil conspiracy ". I'm not a fan of pity party , Allen Onyeama either get used to the heat of the kitchen to cook better or get out of the kitchen completely ! Business is war! |
izzou:Na wa o. Different speculations here and there . |
izzou:According to what I heard , there's a plan by the FG through NNPC to reduce PMS pump price soon. So most marketers are wary of buying at the current price and sell at lower cost. More like they are speculating waiting for whatever cost reduction before stocking. That's why u see only few filling stations with fuel overcrowded cos others are waiting for FG move before they make an order |
LordAdam16:The long and short of it is that I won't clear my goods today at N1330 / dollar and u will expect me to sell it next week cheaper cos the exchange rate is now 1,278/dollar . |
For those always asking why there hasn't been drastic reduction in price of goods despite appreciation of the naira against the dollar. This is one of the reasons
|
izzou:It's the audacity for me! Obvioulsy the political class think the masses are stupiiid and the masses themselves have not denied it by lapping at some of these ridiculous takes of politicians and their minions . Imagine in 2024 , politicians are still milking the Ajaokuta steel propaganda mill and sane people still dey lap-up to it . smh. 🤦♂️ If people can still believe in the Ajaokuta steel misadventventure , why won't the Nigeria air people not have hope ? |
KanielOutis92:In due time, the court might likely declare his impeachment illegal and he may be entitled to all those benefits in arrears. If the courts don't work in his favour, he can make up with Obaseki later and the same house of assembly will "forgive/pardon " him. That was happened with Femi Pedro in Lagos. Femi Pedro was impeached in the last day's of Tinubu's governorship. He did everything possible to get the court reverse the impeachment but it never worked until much later when he made up with Tinubu and Lagos state house of assembly "pardoned" him. It was only then he had access to his pension. |
iamoyindamola:I dey; been busy offline ni |
afrodoc2:Exactly ! Na state government get all the land for their state except for those already designated as under federal government from inception Na LASG give the man C of O , so if LASG wants to evict him on behalf of FG , they must pay him compensation and get reimbursement from FG |
afrodoc2:This should be one of the focus of our house of assembly members . They should be able to look at historical events , identify the need for the people and property interest be protected from the recklessness of Executive governors . They should be championing the amendment of the Land use act by importing such caveat . That is why the senators and HOA are called the representatives of the people . They are the ones saddled with that responsibility . But look at that fighting over constituency allowances , padding budgets and what have u. Some of them are even more concerned about regulating social media . 🤦♂️ At least if the law has such caveat , anytime a government at the executive level wants to transgress , the victim can always have a legal leg to stand on and challenge them in court . |
izzou:Most likely and those properties are in the highbrow areas of Lagos. |
afrodoc2:Yeah. But if I was in this Landmark owner's shoes I will first try and dialogue with the government to see if there's a way they can reroute the whole thing in order not to affect my investment that is providing jobs for fellow citizens. If I get a negative response , then I will file for compensation ASAP and get an injunction restraining government from carrying out demolition immediately . If they decide to disobey the court order, no wahala . I will sha pursue my right to compensation to the last kobo. Once I get the monetary compensation, I will never look back at ever investing in Nigeria ever again. I will face my business interests in other saner environment . |
afrodoc2:I guess the slow pace of property related cases in the Nigerian court system is one major factor why property owners are majorly handicapped and discouraged from taking the legal route of challenging these government's callous attitude of taking over people's properties without proper compensation . Just look at the the magodo land issue that became a serious Matter sometimes last year when the original owners of the land wanted to take over the land in accordance with a Supreme Court judgement after Lagos state had sold the land to innocent people years ago. Could u believe that the case had been decided at the appeal court level as at 1996 in favor of the original land owner and then finally decided at the Supreme Court in 2012. Can u imagine how long it took from Appeal to Supreme Court level . Only God even knows when the initial case was instituted at the high court level sef. I'm sure it's the grandchildren of the original land owners that are pursuing prosecution of the court judgement now. Those court cases take too long ! |
izzou:If Nigeria were to be an ideal society sef, the amount of compensation govt will pay to legal property owners along that corridor alone would discourage them from going ahead with the project . |
