iamoyindamola:Yeah . Let me try to summarize this as much as I can . After the election which Akintola and his new party won, there was serious political crises in the western region . People’s houses were burnt , general unrest and federal government had to declare state of emergency and all. Some of these incidents were being watched by the military who had become more politically conscious seeing how politicians were mismanaging the country . The military guys took over , planned to kill or arrest most of the political office holders ( A plan which failed cos those in the eastern region couldn’t succeed and it gave the coup a coloration of an ethnic coup ) if they offer resisiatnce . That was how Akintola , Ahmadu Bello , Tafawa Balewa, Okotie-Eboh and the rest lost their lives in the hands of the coupists . All of these happened while Awolowo was already in prison after Tafawa Balewa government found him , dem Jakande , Olabisi Onabanjo and co guilty of treason . So it’s true Awolowo May as well have died that day if he wasn’t in prison . Even Azikiwe was saved because he was out of the country . |
iamoyindamola:This sis simply due to ethnic politics . Awolowo the leader of AG the opposition party believes AG does not need to form an alliance with the majority party NPC which is more of a northern party . Akintola ( Awolowo’s deputy ) believes in AG aligning with NPC so that they can have more strong hold at the national level . Akintola eventually aligned with NPC , formed his own party , won regional election against AG in a controversial election that was marred with rigging and violence ; the western people never really accepted Akintola for the role he played in having Awolowo jailed for treason ; etc . Las las the two legends were playing politics but the tribal aspect of the politics divided the opinion of people about the two men. |
seankafor:Nowadays if u wan go party for Lagos , u just need to order a prado for the whole day ( It costs less than 150k at most ) . The prado comes with police escorts in their vehicle . I get friends wey dey use am move for parties on weekends . So person fit use am move for few weeks wey he go dey Nigeria based on hard currency levels |
izzou:I second this post |
Ibime:A lot of shiit don happen for this country o. These are the kind of history that are missing today . |
obainojazz:His Evian is active |
Ibime:Hmmm a lot of internal wrangling happening in the south south - south east region leading to bad blood and rumor lingering on both sides of the divide |
GloriousGbola:It’s sickening seeing people trying to refurbish Abacha’s image 25 years after his death was celebrated by all and sundry . Molue and Danfo drivers literally gave people free ride that day celebrating his death . Like the whole nation rejoiced a tyrant bowed out ignobly. How can anybody now just think of gaslighting and making villains out of those that celebrated his infamous demise that year ? 🤦♂️ |
Ibime:Please give us this gist as a son of the soil that lived those times |
iamoyindamola:He said innocent people were caught in the crossfire while Abacha was trying to fix Nigeria Most likely Saro Wiwa is one of the innocent people caught in the cross fire . Damn! Amoto94 is one twisted guy . I don’t even know how to describe him and his school of thought on some issues . |
seankafor:This is what we are talking about . Somebody just wakes one morning , vents his anger and frustration at another person who is remembering her dad(who is actually a real life hero ), makes unsubstantiated allegations against the memory of the dead and then has everybody in the comment section falling over themselves taking his side because they don’t even know Ken Saro-Wiwa was till his last breath a hero who fought and won against government and International Oil Companies exploiting and killing his people for oil which everybody benefits from today . |
reccy:I honestly don’t think Nigeria is ripe for the western kind of democracy and I suggest we give up right now ! Imagine an election that is supposed to be people going to vote for whoever they believe will make their lives better based on the campaign of all candidates …… some thug armed with gun wants to thwart the eventual result of the polls, the military steps in and get the non-state actors killed . An election with so much bloodshed on all sides , a winner eventually emerges by crook or through the books ; yet u expect the state to move forward because everybody needs to move on and work for the good of the state . Those people who lost loved ones will never wish the state well. This democracy is overrated |
raumdeuter:Nowadays once these boys smoke weed dem don believe say they have psyched themselves up and can face anything ![]() |
larride:Definitely our morals have gone to the dogs; the poverty in the land also does not help matters . Times are hard ; parents now have to look up to kids they couldn’t even feed properly nor give quality education . They look up to those kids to feed well, own a car, build a house , etc . How will such parent be able to talk to the child and expect him to listen on morality ? The hunger is a major factor that has partnered with the social media factor . |
seankafor:U see ehn, just like u I don’t agree with some of the things Wole Soyinka said before , during and after the 2023 general elections . It appears as though he’s not the man he used to be before . But one thing I won’t do is now going about insulting him, calling him all sorts of names simply because I don’t agree with his position on issues like u are doing . Wole Soyinka has done some great things for this country . Just like GloriousGbola pointed out, Wole Soyinka was one of the voice of truth who believe the Igbo’s were unfairly treated following the aftermath of the first coup , the counter coup and eventual Biafra war that broke out afterwards . He’s one of the people that risked his life trying to get all parties avert a needless war that has sowed the seed of disunity & distrust in this country ever since . Wole Soyinka certainly has had his failings as a human , but no be make Gen Z to come dey reason am the way u dey do. |
seankafor:These are the negatives of this era he’s talking about . Normally u no go dey the same space with Soyinka and call him a useless man, extremist and fanatic . If u have reservations about him , his line of thought and views on topical issues, u will find a polite way of communicating ur disagreement with him without sounding condescending . It’s this new era that makes it easy for u to just stay inside ur house and call a Nobel Laurete recognized for his works “useless “. |
Amoto94:Can u imagine this level of thinking. You kill 1,400 Israelis for no justifiable reason , then u want to be in a position to dictate the number of Palestinians Israel can kill in return?. smh This is just a classic case of "He who fetched ant-infested firewood should be ready to dine with lizards." All these emotional diatribe will not move anybody. He should use his connect to advise Hamas to release the hostages being held by them and save the palestinians more misery. Simple! |
izzou: ![]() When eleda see machine gun pointed at ur head in the middle of the creek in the Niger delta , Shey eleda will leave person and run ? |
afrodoc2:💯 I still had a discussion with a friend yesterday and we both agreed that nowadays the youth learn from people on social media even the simplest of things they should pick up and learn from their immediate environment . Like people listen to people like Davido, Wizkid , Burna etc and think they are always right simply because those are the guys making all the money , buying the luxury cars and what have u. People glamorize some of their indicent behavioris, think it’s cool and won’t mind replicating same in their own immediate environment/society . Remember that time Davido literally disrespected Dele Momodu over his issues with his baby mama Sophia ? He said “Dele na my boy “ did not end there , but added it to the lyrics of his song . This is Dele his uncle’s friend o; someone that has known him from birth . The youth though it was cool Davido had to give it to Dele and put him in his place…. Blah blah… Davido has since apologized to Dele but that moral value broken is gone. |
izzou:I know na , but for u to make that much on the sides then definietly u are rigging for one or two parties at ur polling unit . That even makes it worse cos if it’s a community that get skuru for head , they can declare maximum shishi for u immediately they find out ur game. For someone who is not out to rig in Favour of any party , all he will get on the sides are money from two or three different party agents for refreshment/lunch which does not come at a price for ur life . |
Amigoss:When I see youth Corpers who volunteer to work for INEC in this age and time with the amount of violence in places like Bayelsa and Kogi ; I do wonder if those corpers have extra lives they kept somewhere . The money paid corpers for these INEC jobs are not even worth the risk involved sef . Ur future fit be becoming MD of a big company , but all that can get cut-off because u are trying to earn paltry 30 something thousand working for INEC that doesn’t even have any provision for substantial death benefits or compensation for ur beneficiary or urself if anything unto-wards happen to u. That Bayelsa for example a gun boat can just come out of nowhere , attack ur boat carrying INEC material and corpers , capsize the boat and leave u for dead in the middle of a creek that is not adequately policed . |
seankafor:In a way Wole Soyinka is right .When I say in a way , I mean social media has become sort of distraction that makes real learning kinda difficult . Currently I have books I have been trying to read for months yet unable to make much more progress. Yes my job is now time demanding but the free time I don’t use sleeping or working , I find it difficult to use it for reading . Once I pick up my phone and enter social media I just waste hours getting amused/entertained by the contents therein while learning very little thing . In fact , of recent in my quiet time I do wonder if I would’ve graduated with very good grades if it was this advanced social media age with many distractions I attended UNI . Like post-2020 when there’s TikTok , Twitter and IG where there’s always one trending issue to take off as much as 2-3 days off u e.g Mohbad case, Fatoyinbo case that year , Hakimi marital matter , Davido vs the American Only fans girl, etc . These are topical issues u will learn little or nothing from, but u will spend days following the news , discussing it on all social media platforms and even nairaland . What I don’t agree with Wole Soyinka on is the fact that his bias towards this generation’s technology has blindsided him to see the advantages of these new technological innovations. He choose to only see and talk about the negatives which conforms to his bias . He chose not to talk about young prodigies that have used IT to put Nigeria on the world map. He chose not to talk about young talents who barely completed their college degree but doing exceedingly well today thanks to skills like programming and the likes. Some of these people are well read more than some professors sef . People who work with dashboards , who have found simpler ways of doing some of the stuff our so called professors want to do just one hard way( their own way ). You can imagine that in Nigerian newspapers when their opening for an academic job in a university , they will still be asking a professor , Dr, Senior Lecturer , etc to send 15 hard copies of their CV , their academic credentials etc; in an age where u just need to email ur CV , do virtual interview and get ur offer letter emailed to you with little or no physical contact involved . |
Itsrm:Some of those bank staff too are not adequately trained jare. Some of them lack communication skills and emotional intelligence. I believe banks make mistake of sending their best hands to places like Lekki, VI branches while they send the regular joes to places like Oke Arin branch. The fact that most of those tellers and Customer service guys are underpaid contract staff doesn't help matters. |

iamoyindamola:I will download bodies now; I've checked it out. As for Midnight mass, I figure it is horror genre. I no dey enjoy horror movies not to now talk of series. Abeg recommend others to replace it |
Iamoyindamola which series dey Netflix now wey dey make sense? |
izzou:Who go give u 2.03 odds for Under 4.5 game ? . When it's not Real Madrid Vs Accra hearts of oak. |
izzou:Dem dey sell Nido for stores well well na. I still see am for shelf recently in a store |
Fchristo:U work for the Federal civil service not Bayelsa state civil service. The Federal civil service is not bound by any public holiday declared by Bayelsa state government. Your boss did the right thing by denying u absenting yourself from work today. If he had granted ur request, he would have been unfair to other staff from different states who didn't get any special holiday when their state elections were conducted earlier on (e.g Osun State, Anambra state, etc) |
izzou:Baba every area get em own fair share of good hospitals , it’s affordability that is the issue . At least I’ve lived close to some of the areas u mentioned up there and I know the people there will know where to go to get good health care . That lack of empathy is a major issue with the government hospitals .The value they place on human live is not much at all. I don’t think it’s majorly lack of staff and equipment . LASUTH and LUTH for example are well equipped with medical equipment and qualified personnel in different departments ; yet u go see shege there except u get “leg” to take fast track ur treatment . Make person just pray to have money to be able to afford private hospital or hope his comapny has a good HMO plan like itsrm pointed out. |
izzou:There are so many private hospitals that are very good and even though they are not up to dem St. Nicholas , Lagoon hospital , Reddington ,Eko Hospital etc standard . I’ve used a couple of them in the past and I can confirm some of them have equally good doctors ( mostly doctors who work government jobs also work in those hospitals as side hustle ). Some of the advantages those private hospitals have over government hospital is the fact that u can walk in anytime and have ur health issues attended to. Nobody will ask u to first go and pick an appointment date to see the doctor . They are more empathic ( which is something that is lost in public hospitals ; till this day my mum still tell tales of the shege she saw at Ayinke House during childbirth ) I remember sometimes around early this year I had issues with my ear and had to go to the hospital to complain . Less than 20 mins after seeing the doctor , they had the ENT specialist check my ear and a procedure was carried out . I was relieved after a day or two using the oral drugs I was given . I can’t imagine the same situation playing out in a private hospital . I co-saw shege with the rest of my family at LASUTH last year . The bureaucracy , lack of human kindness and care free attitude of government hospital health workers is a huge turn off for me . I will pick a decent private hospital above dem LASUTH any day anytime on general medicine issues |
