The Bible made it clear in John 12:8 that there will always be poor among us. Even if bishop oyedepo sells his wealth to help the poor and needy, there will still be poverty. The poor had always being there from beginning
Read my post again. If these people are not hoarding up treasures and are giving mightily, poverty rate will reduce.

And, don't take Jesus's word out of its original context. Jesus meant that He would not always be around as He would be taken away from them but that they would still have the poor around them. It was also a call to always remember the poor.

Affordable is relative. If we check very well we may even see that they have more applicants than they can admit. In the quest for excellence big money must be spent this is fact. Our federal universities lack infrastructures and maintenance to be seen as world class, covenant wants to be a difference. Huge money is needed for that. I don't know why this is so difficult for you to process.

Is the church spreading the good news yes or no? Do you know you can spread the good news too? How many people have you led to Christ? How many poor have you catered for?

Who do you refer to as the people of the world? The federal government? Because they are the ones competing with Covenant
The sole responsibility of a Church is to spread the Good News and take care of the needy among them. God instituted tithes as a food program for the Levites, the widows, the orphans, etc. Paul also asked people not to forget those who ministered among them. He was also in the habit of soliciting donations on behalf of God's people who needed help. I cannot understand why something that straightforward is hard for you to processhuh

Well, I am not surprised. The false teacher is only interested in advancing his own kingdom and not the Kingdom of God. The joy of a true teacher of the word is to fulfil his ministry (equip the saints and prepare them for the Antichrist and the Great Commission). The joy of a false teacher like Oyedepo is to build a business empire while many of his Christian followers do not even know anything substantial about the Word.

You’re correct

Firstly is it every minister that is wealty? The one that you call wealthy have you found out the source . Church money is not Pastors money .

Bishop Oyedepo does not collect money from church . His plane was not bought offering . A pastor who give gets . A pastor who bless people get Blessed . I sent a Car gift twice to a pastor who helped me spiritually in the 90s . He’s a genuine man of God who sacrificed for me . He didn’t see it coming . He didn’t have a car . I traced his house and sent the car to him 2 times now. You heard how some members bought pastor Adeboye a jet . You heard how a member in winners built a church with billions as a gift to bishop oyedepo last week .

If a pastor make impact in lives of people . He can’t be forgotten . So if you see a pastor riding a car . Don’t think “here’s goes the offering
Then how come millions are still poor. What stops your pastors from rejecting the gifts and telling the givers to give it to the poor instead? The pastors are just greedy, selfish and materialistic. A minister should never like money or the acquisition of properties. Money should mean nothing to a true man of God. These men are businessmen. They are no different from businessmen like Dangote.

And the wealthy and middle class are not worthy to be won over to the faith right?
Read my post again. I said "as much people"

We have more poor people.

In all, the Church should either establish an affordable institution or stay away from dragging business with the people of the world. Money can be a great divider and it is evident in the Church-- a gap between the Rich and the Poor. The same gap that the Apostles strived to close is the same that your pastors are widening everyday. The sole responsibility of the Church on earth is to spread the Good News, not to build mighty churches buildings and universities that cannot cater to the needs of the poor.

1 Corinthians 9:13-14 (KJV)
13 Do ye not know that they which minister about holy things live of the things of the temple? and they which wait at the altar are partakers with the altar? 14 Even so hath the Lord ordained that they which preach the gospel should live of the gospel.
Live by the gospel not get wealthy by the gospel. There are three basic necessities:

Food, shelter and clothing. That was what the ministers should not be denied of. The ministers of today are wealthy men. They don't need tithes and offerings anymore. They have made themselves stupendously wealthy by the gospel.

Hate on cheesy

Why should I hate on the devil or the false teachers? When the Church that should distance itself from the love of money begins to dabble into businesses, how do you think it would cope without scandals and uproars? There was one distinct reason why Paul would not want payment. So that it would not stand between him and the gospel.

I would sincerely like to know why the Church, whose sole responsibility is to spread the Good News, suddenly dabbles into businesses. Supposing the tuition is even affordable, we would conclude that it is to win over as much people to the faith. But the tuition seems to target only the wealthy and middle class.

Greed is the reason why the tuition is high.

You need to understand what the statement means before using it. That bulk of the money comes from donations does not mean money from donations is sufficient or revenue from school fees is irrelevant.

Let's say 5 billion is needed to run the school and the bulk of it 3 billion is gotten from donations while the remaining 2 billion is from the fees. Does this make revenue from school fees unnecessary or irrelevant?
Bulk is relative. The bulk of 5 billion can be anything from 3 billion to 4.9 billion. When he said they don't depend on school fees, that should tell you how large the donations are.

Now I see were you're coming from. You don't frown at gathering of Christians but frown at those paying tithes and some pastors misusing it. Now let me ask, are you going to serve God or man(if you're a Christian)?
That many pastors are misbehaving doesn't all are like that. The Bible is there to judge pastors for misusing the duty post to milk members. Their judgement is more terrible that they will seek for mercy but wouldn't found it when they cross over to the other side.
Bro, you are getting it all wrong. Pastors should never even collect money in the first place. When Paul collected money for the Lord's people, it was the donors that still had to approve of the man through whom the gifts would be sent down to those who needed them. When he mentioned catering for those who labored for others in the Church, he was never referring to administrative cost but to the upkeep of the elders and others who may be slaving for the equipping of the others. The Apostles collected simply for the purpose of meeting the needs of those who lacked. Not to build mighty churches buildings. It was the same reason why God instituted tithe. Tithe was a sort of food program for those who lacked or had no inheritances (Levites, widows, orphans, etc). It was not to beautify the temple or pay salaries for the temple workers. It was simply to feed them with food.

This is not a matter of pastors misbehaving. This a matter of money in the body of Christ (the Church).

Do you have a figure of what it cost to run the university or you're assuming money gotten from donations should be enough? Do you even have an idea of how much is generated through donation? If you have facts on this figures then you can make your claims but in the absence of none we should exercise caution
For heaven's sake, an insider admitted that the bulk of the money comes from donations (God) and here you are still arguing. Was I the one that made the statement?
Christianity EtcRe: Response To Tithe Issue By A Nairalander by BluntBoy(m): 8:08pm On Nov 13, 2017
asuustrike2009:
If pastors are not Levite's as acclaimed and there's no temple what then is a church? How does the church fund it's expenses?. If your justification for saying there's no levite or temple to support your claim on not paying tithes then we shouldn't pay offerings, give alms to the poor and there shouldn't be a church in the first place. It would be unfair to single out tithe alone on the premise of Mosaic law and forget offering after all the Bible doesn't force us to give offerings, help the needy
What expenses is the Church funding? Was that why God instituted tithe?

And for your information, Church is different from temple. While temple was a building, the Church is an assembly of believers. How did the Church take care of itself in the New Testament. It was by loving itself. People were selling properties to make sure that no one lacked in the Church. Everyone gave to the extent that there was no needy person among them.

Your church will continue to complain of expenses until they cut down on their excesses.

LOL! What this simply means is that the revenue derived from school fees is not even enough to run the school.

What do you understand from that statement when they say the money comes from God? Like God comes down to drop the money or what?
If the bulk of the money comes from huge donations from many of Oyedepo's wealthy followers (like that one that singlehandly built a church recently), why justify high tuition. If the school is run majorly on donations, then the school fees should be affordable. Simple!

But did you cry later on?
Yes, I cried but it was brief. It happened that some of the sympathizers kept on saying sorry to me. I just burst into tears. But it was brief. Everything was like in a dream. As though I was in a trance. Even as I poured sand on the coffin and people were crying, I didn't cry.

When she had the accident that later killed her, I didn't cry when I saw her covered in blood on the night we went to the hospital where they took her. She was conscious and looking at me. Then later, when someone joked about me not crying when my siblings were screaming at all the blood on her, my mom said that I was different because I did my own crying in my heart.
