bashlek: u shud hv emphasized on Liberalism more nxt time The reason why I avoided a direct approach to the argument is because liberalism is hard to measure in an overly religious country like Nigeria. It is almost impossible to be religious and liberal at the same time. And every tribe in Nigeria is largely religious. There are however a small population of irreligious people in each of the major tribes who are treated the same. In other words, the issue should not be which tribe is more liberal. Rather, it should be which tribe is more conservative. And to answer this question, religion plays a significant part. |

Munzy14: I doubt this, judging the fact that Yorubas have more Muslim faithfuls than Igbos , but i think they are just same in liberal minded.
Remember, conservative nature of northerners is heavily influenced by religion. Since you people are discussing conservatism in religion, and not fundamentalism, then I can boldly write that no tribe is more or less conservative than the other. I laugh when Christians accuse Muslims of being conservative when they are just as conservative. However, if we are talking conservatism as per refusing innovation and sticking to traditional ways, I would say the Northerners are very socially conservative, especially the Kanuris. Hausas and Fulanis are a little more liberal and accommodating than the Kanuris. Between Yorubas and Igbos, it is hard to tell who is more liberal or less socially conservative. Both tribes have been greatly influenced by religions such as Christianity and Islam. The Igbos are largely Catholic and Catholicism is also very conservative just like Islam. |

Where are d pictures of the event or of him receiving the award? If you talk, ignorant louts will call you jealous! Even though Professor Kperogi has a point, winning an award does not mean you have to receive it on that day. All these vices you listed were not rampant then. We just had one or two notorious criminals and most of the roads today were constructed in that era.
Well, kids won't understand. Vice has always been rampant in Nigeria. Herdsmen-farmer's conflict did not start today. Police corruption did not start today. Police and soldier brutality of civilians did not start today. Remember the days when police killed drivers over 10 naira. Religious crisis did not start today. Indiscipline, jumping queues, littering streets, disobeying traffic rules did not start today. Remember Buhari's War Against Indiscipline (WAI)? Electricity palavar did not start today. Why didn't Buhari respect abdulsalam? Abeg enjoy ur change and allow my GEJ rest in peace... Were you living under a rock during the GEJ administration? So, you didn't hear about the pressure placed on Jega to declare 2015 elections inconclusive? Have you also forgotten the little drama that ensured to disrupt the announcement of results? You said GEJ deliberately lost 2015 elections? I just dey laugh. Are we talking about the same 2015 elections that even GEJ knew he stood no chance? Seems like you have forgotten how battered GEJ's image was toward 2015. GEJ deliberately lost the elections yet we keep hearing of billions spent on electioneering. |

Pavarottii: So with all these ur lies , GEJ still allowed Buhari win him? You didn't read where I wrote that Abdulsami Abubakar and whatever peace association he headed ran quickly to Aso Rock to save Nigeria. GEJ had no intention of relinquishing power. Whatever Abdulsami told him must have humbled him. GEJ lost the battle in the Southwest. The North was always ever largely in Buhari's pocket. And the alliance that formed the APC proved too strong for PDP. There was absolutely nothing that GEJ could have done aside relinquish power. The consequences of not relinquishing power would have been the end of him. |
Politics › Re: Timi Frank: Jonathan Was A Better President, Nigerians Should Apologise To Him by BluntBoy(m): 2:05pm On Aug 10, 2019 |
DWJOBScom: Economically GEJ has a better focus and had a great team but financial control which still plagues most organizations got his government but did he do anything about it?? yes he did - he never intervened anytime someone was caught or in court. The opposition enjoyed a lot of leverages under him and that’s why we have the dragons here. GEJ was good and very good for democracy Nigerians and short memory. Which opposition enjoyed a lot of leverages? Was it Lai Mohammed who was arrested on the eve of Osun gubernatorial elections in 2014? Was it Oshiomole whose flight was not authorized and so was prevented from entering Ekiti during the Ekiti gubernatorial election in 2014? Was it Tinubu who was not allowed to leave Ekiti? What about the persecution of Tambuwal and the dark day when policemen occupied the National Assembly? What about the 30 APC university student supporters who were arrested by DSS toward the 2014 Osun gubernatorial elections? What about the persecution that Amaechi went through in the hands of an unelected Patience Jonathan? Have you forgotten the day that the APC Data centre in Lagos was ransacked by the DSS? What about the day when soldiers pounced on major newspaper companies like the Punch and Vanguard and prevented them from entering Southwest states where APC presence was beginning to grow? Hope you all know that it took the desperate appeal from Abdulsami and his peacekeeping group to make GEJ call Buhari? It was not like GEJ happily called Buhari of his own accord without pressures and appeals. GEJ is not a saint. If FFK was in the opposition during GEJ's administration, he would have seen trouble either from DSS or Patience Jonathan. |
Literature › Re: Ayobami Adebayo Wins £15,000 9mobile Prize For Literature by BluntBoy(m): 1:45pm On Aug 10, 2019 |
MoneyMan5: A Nigerian writer, Ayọ̀bámi Adébáyọ̀, has won the 9mobile Prize for Literature and received £15,000 cash award.
Ayọ̀bámi’s work titled ‘STAY WITH ME’ which was published in 2017 earned her the 9mobile Prize.
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Ayọ̀bámi holds BA and MA degrees in Literature in English from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife; and another MA in Creative Writing from the University of East Anglia where she had been awarded an international bursary for creative writing.
She has written for the BBC, LitHub, The Guardian (UK) and many other media outlets; and was the 2017 winner of The Future Awards Africa Prize for Arts and Culture.
She has also received fellowships and residencies from MacDowell Colony; Ledig House; Sinthian Cultural Centre; Hedgebrook; Ox-bow School of Arts; and Ebedi Hills.
Her text ‘STAY WITH ME’ was shortlisted for the Baileys Prize for Women’s Fiction, the Wellcome Book Prize and was also longlisted for the International Dylan Thomas Prize.
The work had also been named a Notable Book of the Year by The New York Times and a Best Book of the Year by The Guardian, The Economist, The Wall Street Journal and many other publications.
The 9mobile Prize for Literature was created by Etisalat Nigeria in 2013 and is the first ever pan-African prize celebrating first-time African writers of published fiction books.
The Prize which is awarded annually aims to serve as a platform for the discovery of new creative talent out of the continent and invariably promote the burgeoning publishing industry in Africa.
Aside a cash prize of £15,000, the winner also receives a fellowship at the University of East Anglia; while the prize also supports publishers by purchasing 1000 copies of all shortlisted books which are to be donated to various schools, book clubs and libraries across the African continent.
https://thetransverse.com/2019/08/08/nigerian-writer-ayobami-wins-15000-9mobile-prize-for-literature/ I don't find Stay With Me to be a great novel. I like Ayobami because she is cute and very friendly with a free flowing style of writing. But her debut novel is plainly unoriginal. |

This question exposes the Army. They knew these men were policemen and still went ahead to waste them and jubilate over the senseless killing.

This is what happens when a bunch of _horny sex-starved BBNaija addicts, most of whom make up a huge chunk of the active users on this thread, stay up all night to watch Seyi and Tacha have sex.
Who in their right minds would want to watch an ezcema infested, stretch-mark ridden, bleached-out, grubby trashbag like Tacha engage in any sort of sexual activity?
To be honest I actually question Seyi's sanity for developing attraction to that ill-mannered repugnant wench that walks like a baby hippopotamus. Do you mean to tell me that there are actually people who stay awake to watch this largely boring show Mehn, I can't even watch a movie for 2 hours without boredom beginning to set in.
