salam12: I am presently running my house with 520ah batteries (2 strings of 260ah batterie) and 3600W panels. If I can survive cloudy weather in Port Harcourt with this setup, you won't have reason to complain in Ibadan.

I wasn't complanning as I still get enough from my panels even on rainning days. I was just looking forward to when I will be changing my current batteries.
I just think it will be better to invest in more panels than more days of autonomy in the battery bank.
I have often wondered why George D has that much panels...

Dear friends, I found some days off my crazy schedule in the office and after resting the whole of the first day I decided to check how my renewable power setup was doing on the second.

Most people would have noticed the cloudy skies especially in and around Ibadan in the last one or two weeks, my 2.7kw solar panels was delivering just about 1kw at the time I logged into the morning star mppt CC.

Just then, a question came into my mind, which would be cost effective? Building a 3 day battery autonomy or installing enough panels to be able to provide the needed power during cloudy days?

I think doubling required panel size might just be better because the average life span of the solar panel is like double that of the battery, moreso while panels can be added at will, it is not that advise able to add more batteries to a bank that is older than 6months.

Making laws is just a little part of the work, waiting to see how this will be implemented.

In whose interest did he support the fuel subsidy removal and was he wrong about the legislator's jumbo pay?

Much as I think it's not good to criticize blindly, I wish that our leaders will be more responsive to the yearnings of the citizenry...

I am always amazed when Nigerians pick sides to defend our leaders. This might be because I have been let down many times by the actions and inactions of these so called leaders.

Every politician or political group builds up consensus before any major election. This consensus building could be agreements to share offices or rotate power in a certain pattern. No one tribe can single handedly win a presidential election in a multi-ethnic nation like Nigeria.

Even the current leadership in the country at the federal level is directly or indirectly building consensus for the for the 2015 elections. I will be disappointed if anyone here think these political realignments are in the interest of the common man on the street.

So if they didn't think about me when they are sharing portfolios and signing agreements, why should I bother when they fail to keep to their own selfish agreements

I guess it wasn't only the president that ate the poisoned food, what happened to others? Could it be they have better immunity? And it took about a week before Mr President visited the hospital...we need to know the whole truth.

Sincere 9gerian: Yes a govt is elected to solve problems but some problems can overwhelm even super-humans. Even in the midst of insufficient funds, this president has to spend money in providing facilities and also spend even more in protecting these facilities. In the absence of sabotage, the funds that should have been expended in PROTECTING these infrastructures would have been used in building more facilities.

We should not forget that this same govt is also spending N920 billion on security because of Boko Haram. This is over N500 billion more than what Yar Adua and OBJ spent during their reign on security. Just imagine the impact this N500 billion would have had if the current president had deployed it in infrastructural development across the country.

Also we should not forget that this govt is spending N900 billion on fuel subsidy. If not for the protests, fuel subsidy would have been removed in 2012 and the N900 billion spent on infrastructure. Ghana has already removed fuel subsidy. But for political reasons, Nigeria has not been able to do the needful.

So bottomline, funds that would have been better used for PROGRESS and DEVELOPMENT of the nation are being wasted on issues that should not have been if our politics was healthy, patriotic and in the NATIONAL interest.

Notwithstanding these challenges, the govt of GEJ has managed to deliver much more than any govt, atleast in the last 3 decades. What is not in doubt is that Nigeria would have seen much more PROGRESS and DEVELOPMENT if, like Ghaninians do, all Nigerians united behind their president after the 2011 elections.

I have personally decided to stop making comments about politics and politicians (both ruling and opposition - They are two sides of the same coin anyway) but the report below quoted from an interview with the minister of power to me is particularly disturbing....

Gas pipeline vandalism and pricing policy, with the heavy debt profiles of the owners of Distribution Companies (Discos) and Generation Companies (Gencos) have been identified as the reasons behind epileptic power supply in the country.

The Minister of Power, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, who made these known on Channels Television’s Sun Rise at the weekend, said that the pipeline vandalism has almost been compromising the Discos and Gencos’ plan to provide regular electricity in the country.

Meanwhile, the Afam VI, River IPP, Ibom Power and Afam IV Power stations have been shut down as a result of recent pipeline vandalism.

This has resulted in 826MW reduction in power generation output across the country.

Nebo said that apart from pipeline vandalism, the new owners of the electricity firms are already heavily indebted to banks, posing operational challenges to the companies.

He also pointed out that the issue of gas pricing has been affecting gas availability to power firms.

Nebo in another occasion said the recurrent vandalism of gas pipelines to power plants which has led to the disruption in electricity generation has a been burden to the consuming public.

According to the minister, the condensate extracted from the pipelines, which appears to be the only attraction for these vandals attract no substantial commercial value.

The minister said the western axis of the pipelines network has been worst-hit but assured the public that urgent repairs are ongoing.

Apart from the vandalisation of pipelines, the minister also attributed the decline in power supply to the reduction in water levels at the nation’s hydro-electricity power plants and vandalisation of transformers.

He said: “It is important to note that with regard to the busting of gas pipelines and vandalism of pipelines that bring gas, there isn’t any significant commercial value behind the action. It is sheer madness or may be essentially politically motivated just to cause damage to the country and to Nigerians. The ones that we find to be commercially motivated are so very painful.

“The reason for people to carry out this act of vandalism is something that is beyond explanation..

“I agree that several arrests have been made, just like the issue of crude oil theft that is going on in this country. I think the seriousness given to this by the Federal Government to make sure that they arrest whoever that is involved in this act of sabotage is something that should give some comfort to Nigerians.”

It would have taken the government less energy to sign the new agreement than all these propaganda.

Much as I would have loved to refrain from commenting on issues that bothers on politics especially from the presidency, I think the federal government is the one that is unnecessarily dragging this issue and also pretending to be a victim.

Mr President, the agreement that you are renegotiating was passed through your office as the vice president in 2009. It was even under the review of your office for more than 5 months, yet all the actors then are forming ignorance of the contents of the agreement.

If you must know, Mr President, the union is saying you cannot be trusted based on your words only, the union is only requiring a senior member of the cabinet to sign the new agreement so that if it is not implemented again, you or any other person in power in the next few years will not insult you and the people who sat for 13 hours to agree to the new deal.

Mr President, please do the needful.

Does it mean you wouldn't have made the investment on the new inverter if you were completely off the grid?

gbadexy: I really don't know why all the excitement on the privatization of the phcn when there is no competition or alternative.
What we have now is putting us in the hands of cabals. We are at their mercy and there really is nothing stopping them from giving poor power supply and receiving money except the pre paid meter is fully operational all over and the revenue generated is tied to electricity usage.
I hope the NERC isn't compromised in the future so that these cabals won't be pegging the payment rate to their advantage.

Exactly why I have taken the privatization stories with a pinch of salt. The telecomms sector that has been easily referred to is still struggling with all the competition that is available.

While I do not have anything for or against this woman, I think she should stop using idioms and parables. Part one was "act of God" and now "do the needfull" She should just say or write exactly what she mean instead of all the home-work she gives.

To re echo Oga George's comments, I wouldn't blame my Sukam inverter, the power supply to my crib is really bad, a prag servo wouldn't work if I had purchased it like I did plan.

After taking off the cables from grid supply, my inverter has been back to normal. I think usage could also be a factor, my inverter has been running round the clock for close to four weeks with less than 10hrs rest time.

i hope this helps?[/quote]This is what I used in my own case. It has some protection around its two busbars although I had to order it from Europe.
The cables enter from the bottom, one busbar is for +ve and the second for -ve. I very much think it should be available in Lagos.

for repairs.[/quote]My Sukam too usually misbehaves whenever there is public power supply. It sometimes beep continuously with either "Mains Low Cutout" or "Main Present" error when there is actually no public power supply. Since I cannot easily port to Cyberpower, I had to remove the public power supply cable from the inverter.
