These TSTV guys are actually reckless. I am really surprised that they brought the minister into this.

Tooyib:
Hello house,
I and my wife have us b1/b2 visas that will expire in jan. We traveled on the visa once for childbirth( we declared to vo and at Poe)
We want to go again next year God willing.
My wife doesn't want to risk denial so she want to travel early Jan before the visa expire

My questions are
1. Can I apply for renewal now giving vacation as my reason or wait for her to get there and apply for renewal for the purpose of joining her
2. Is it advisable to apply for renewal before expiry or how late after expiry can one expire?

Thanks all. Responses will be much appreciated.

You should check the US embassy website to know if you can apply for a renewal before the expiry of your current Visa. I am only sure of the Dropbox application which you can do within the first year after your Visa expires.

Besides that, how do you want to link your application to your wife's presence in the US when her own Visa will also expire in Jan?

If you have not violated any of the terms on which the first Visa was issued, i think you stand a great chance of getting it renewed.

Yea, if it is Religion and tribalism it is very easy to divide like the case of India and pakistan, singapore and Malaysia.
This countries seeking for Independence are mainly due to resources, the Government feel that if they allow them to go then they will die of hunger. eg
Ambazonia in Cameroon
Kurds in Iraq
Biafra in Nigeria
Casmire in India
Western Sahara in Morocco

The economic resons you are referring to have been badly magnified by tribe and religion even in the cases you listed...

Have been in a condition of losing your life line before(I mean source of income),then you will understand. Most of the region trying to break away are the life line of the country. The funny part of it is that this regions are normally shortchange and those shortchanging them are backed by world powers to steal their resources. The region that have nothing will sell their resources at give away to western powers and eat from crumps that fall the table of the world powers.

Sometimes it might not be about resources but deeper things like religion and tribalism especially in Africa.

This marriage of incovinences cannot hold up together forever. The less productive regions will be forced to up their game.

I was just discussing this with my wife last night. She was reporting the scenes of the Spain and Catalonia on CNN to me.

I am also at a loss why countries would lock down tribes or regions who are willing to secede forcing them to go through the bloody route to the actualization of their dreams.

LagosNIV:
Hello bodejohn -

You may file for the visas with your old passports if you would like. You will need to have a passport with at least 6 months of validity to enter the US, but the visa does not necessarily need to be in that passport. You would then need to travel with your old (expired or expiring in less than 6 months) passport containing your valid visa as well as your new passport with at least 6 months validity.

Thanks...very much appreciated.

@AbujaNIV, @LagosNIV

Our Visas (wife and I) to the US expired some few weeks ago and we are planning to renew.
My wife's passport will expire end April 2018 but we are planning to visit the US and return within the first and second weeks of same April 2018 for family vacation. She can't renew her passport until December when the validity will be less than 6 months.

Considering the average waiting time of about 1 to 2 months to book an appointment, can we proceed with the about to expire passport or wait to renew before applying? I usually like to secure the visa early so we can save on early flight booking.

From what I can deduce from your interview,
I can candidly tell you that the odds was not on your side today, tomorrow might be your lucky day. One thing about the us visa is that it is 95% luck and 5% ties to me. As for the aspect of you going with your family, I don't think that would have changed anything. All my visit to the us for the us in the past decade I have never applied with my family, though I was denied the first time. So just give it some time and apply again maybe next year. Better luck next time and pray very well.

95% luck? I don't think so.
To me, the ds160 form is like an entrance examination...or say a grading system.

If you have made a good impression with what you filled in...then it will be piece of cake (luck or grace whichever you prefer)

thanks for the info. i was just thinking of getting one but then no thinking of traveling out soon is it a necessity and how long before a renewal?what's the differences with the booklet types?

32 pages for once or twice in a year travellers and 64 pages for the ajalas...

But trust me, the qouted prices in Naira are outdated, 32 pages for age 0 - 17years is now 20k (Aug 2017 price), so age 18yrs to 65yrs would definitely be more.

Well that's the reason France is a mess today. All this nonsense socialism that they have inculcated into their system that artificially tries to prop up their employment rate by making it difficult for companies to go under and also make it difficult to fire people has also made some of these companies wary of hiring people and as a result of that France has one of the highest youth unemployment rates in the western world.

I think policies like this are not usually cast in stone, what works here might not work there. It worked in the US and maybe it might just work for Arik too, it won't be good for the employees to be thrown in the already over saturated labour market.

Wrong! In a free market system it's not the job of the govt to pick the winners and losers, that's the job of the market. When govt get involved they distort the market and destroy market discipline because if you bail people out of a problem that they themselves caused, what will be their incentive next time to prevent it from happening? Uhn?

It's about the principle behind it bro. If you bail this one out, what happens when Arik's competitor gets in trouble after making bad choices and they come to the govt begging for a govt bailout? Where do you begin to draw the line?

There is a reason why the govt bailouts of wall street was so incredibly unpopular back then. A lot of Americans were very angry that the govt intervened in the free market in the first place: that smacks of what socialist countries like China or Venezuela would do. and to even make matters worse was the govt had the audacity to pump money at the same banks that caused the recession in the first place (due to their recklessness) while ordinary people were loosing their jobs and houses. If that's not worthy of outrage then what is?

You can look at it from the angle of making sure some citizens keep their jobs.
Some advance economies are a mixture of capitalism and socialism.

Don't forget that the US bailout as unpopular as it might had been returned their economy to the path of growth.
Business / Re: Ethiopian Airlines Confirms Bid For Nigeria's Arik Air by bodejohn(m): 10:43am On Sep 02, 2017

Well that's the problem inn the first place? The govt has no business nationalizing Arik air; a private business in the first place. That's a third world move and it hardly works.

I do not understand the economics behind it also, but it is better to keep the company afloat than allowing it to go under.

I don't usually like to site examples from foreign countries on matters like this, but you will remember that the United States gave billions of dollars to banks during the last US recession to keep them afloat.
Business / Re: Ethiopian Airlines Confirms Bid For Nigeria's Arik Air by bodejohn(m): 8:00am On Sep 01, 2017
Maybe I'm missing something here.
Arik Air was never a government property or corporation until the take over by the government to prevent it from going under. It was started managed and mis-managed by Nigerians.

While Nigeria as a country is not doing well, but why blame the country or say the country is cursed because a few punks mis-managed Arik?

The results analysed above are from the best public schools in Oyo State. Even at that a less than 60% success rate in Government College, Ibadan is even poor.

Oyo State government should as a matter of urgency reappraise her educational policies and strategies to reposition education in the state.

Hopefully the weekly injection of dollars by the CBN will continue and state governments will start paying salaries regularly to stimulate the economy.

The speed at which the whole process was conducted questions the sincerity behind it.

How will territories be marked out for the new kings? What will be the succession plan for them? How will new a olubadan emerge?

So many questions...without even looking at the financial burden that this will create on the already struggling local governments that have not had any election in the last 6 years...

I hope the constituted authority will be able to handle this...
