"If we stabilize power supply "

Nigerians are too poor for constant power supply... Anyone who can afford constant power supply have it... It's just fact that you guys don't want to accept

Average Nigeria needs to pay $100 monthly per house for us to have power 24/7

Fuel would sale for 1000 there is nothing anyone can do about it ... You need about $100 to fuel your car monthly

The issue should be focusing on your people earning more than focusing on the impossible of reducing cost
Nigerians are not too poor to afford constant electricity. Homes and businesses run on petrol generators, if you provide that electricity, Nigerians won't need those generators and will channel those resources to paying light bills.

Create the stable electricity first. Don't put the cart before the horse.

Government should impose import ceilings on goods we don't really need, we must drastically reduce our imports. If we don't demand dollars, it's value will drop. QED.
You cannot drastically reduce imports when you don't have locally produced alternatives to those import products you're cutting off.

Do you want to create chaos in a national dimension? What is even wrong with some of you?

Yeah, I get your point. If u factor in the stress of going to the market and time used in cooking, eating out is better. But eating out in Abuja is less expensive than eating out in porthacourt. U won't get filled. Trust me. Then again, what of the hygiene? Because u are not going to be patronising all those high end restaurants that takes cooking hygiene serious. Na just mama put. U have to factor in the hygiene of the person u are eating from. God help u that there is water scarcity in the environment u are eating out from. My brother just make sure to deworm every 2 months.

Lol. I am happy with your response. They are current market reality although u have to understand that within a state, there are places where food stuff are more expensive and where they are cheap. Na the place wen cheap I dey go buy. I'm also cutting cost because I don't earn a million naira monthly. So I cannot be having a pot of soup full of assorted. Lol. But I eat a balanced diet.
Well, as stated on that first comment you quoted, these prices vary according to locations and economic realities.

A teacher friend of mine lives in Jahi, Abuja. Earns about a hundred grand. When he doesn't cook for an entire month, he spends at most 32K on feeding. He eats twice, then noodles most nights or local hamburger (Akara and bread). When he cooks for the same period, his expenses total at 38K.

So typically, he prefers to eat out because it's relatively cheaper for him and it saves him time and energy that he almost never even has on the extra side. He has just sundays to himself. Every other day, school teaching in the morning, private home lessons in the evening, even on Saturdays.

So these things are subjective. But having lived across states, I long found more cost convenience in eating out than having to cook. Besides, I'm not one to eat one meal more than twice. E dey tire me. So why cook a meal you'll end up giving out or wasting?!

Present a detailed case of the ordeal to the relevant authorities and allow for adequate legal implementation of prescribed corrective measures.

Certainly not seek to use the instrument of state as a tool to "bully, round and lock up" the perpetrators while throwing away the keys, as you shockingly suggested with this thread.

We're supposed to be an enlightened society governed by democratic tenets and ethos, for crying out loud!

If I am being honest with you, the Topic he created is looking more like clickbait... The dissonance between it and what he finally posited is beyond distasteful.

Maybe we need to start educating these APC supporters about what DEMOCRACY truly means and entails... Cos, this consistent public display of ignorance by supposedly educated people is more than mildly shocking... It actually borders on Unthinkable.

Ironically, these are the very same people who get overly offended whenever a member of the opposition or a disgruntled citizen suggests a Military takeover, yet such comments make people wonder if this is not a dictatorship poorly disguised as a democracy.

It's funny cos Tinubu hasn't even received half of what he, Buhari, Soyinka, and APC put GEJ through for 6 good years... Maybe selective amnesia is a real thing after all.
I'm sincerely gobsmacked to the point the words are even failing me.

Selective amnesia is indeed a thing, like you rightly opined.

Alright. I have edited some of what I wrote earlier so u should be able to understand them better now. Be like say na butty u be this one wen u nor too sabi pidgin English.
Now saying my food revolves around rice, beans , noodles and soup is confusing because what else I'm I supposed to cook? Do u expect me to bake bread or make shawarma or even grow my own fruits. I excluded these this because even if u eat full time at road side vendors, u will still need to buy fruits, bread and tea materials. I saw talking about a budget strictly on our Nigerian food. And yes, they are in reality with current market price. Go to the market and not a supermarket and see things for your self.
For the gas, 2kg carries me a month. Like I said, I stay alone and do not receive visitors very often. My gas is regulated to burn on low to moderate flame. I do not need the excess heat so I don't open it on full blast as I mostly observe many people do. I even discovered that u are in the living room of some people and you can even hear the sound of their gas burner burning on full blast. That's waste of heat and fuel.
Furthermore, for Ur taste and quality of food that you eat judging from your write up. because u seem to me like someone that enters a restaurant and order for chicken and not meat and soft drinks to wash down and not water, you would be averaging 5k daily when u eat out.

Ps. I have a moderate appetite and I heat healthy.
Garri is #1800 for a rubber. I don't do garri. I buy wheat because of my sugar level. A medium bag of wheat cost me #4000 and It last me for two months.
In the north, we measure grains in mudu. In the south, we use custard rubber to measure. So when I say a rubber of beans, it means a custard rubber measure full of beans. Do u get?
Lol.
I like your detailed and measured responses.

You however didn't tell me if these prices you've listed are a reflection of the current market rates.

And your assumptions about me are at best, exaggerated..😊.

Nigeria's biggest problem is not the political class. Our major problem is the citizenry that allows themselves to be bamboozled with tribal and religious theatrics.

For a nation with a high level of educated youths, we're too stupid and docile to be under a democratic rule. Once a section of the country produces a leader, people of that region mobilise themselves to sing "hallelujah" songs of defence for that leader, irrespective of his despicable performances.

When that happens, other voices of objective criticism are punctured and classified as "haters and wailers", yet the deteriorating state of the economy keeps crashing on the collective shoulders of everyone, tribe and religion notwithstanding.

I detest stupid and deceitful people. I may have my flaws, but I will never support a kinsman in the face of glaring incompetence or evil. And as long as we continue on this path, we'll lack, suffer and gnash our teeth in pain while we birth children who'll continue with the sorry state of affairs of our country.

I'll never for the rest of my life lend a hand of assistance to any Nigerian for free, anymore. Never!

Bro, I like how u enumerated it and I feel I am the right person to answer you because I stay alone and even in PH.
No, there was a time I thought cooking was too expensive and time consuming. So I wrote a budget and went to a normal road side food vendor. Note, she was even one of the cheapest.
A plate of swallow with just one eba, cost #600. I nor even belle full. That food can't carry me still evening. Then evening say I buy food of #500, it means I will average spend #1100-1200 daily while being under feed. The meat sef nor big o. If u are not lucky, na cartilage they serve u as meat. So for 30 days, I should be spending roughly 35k for mama put, while eating minimal..

Now, I stay alone. 2kg of gas which is #2000 carries me for 1month. That one don commot.. I buy ice fish of #1000, per week. Fish is more expensive than meat. So in a month, fish budget is #4000.
Tomato and pepper weekly is #600. It will make stew and soup for me for a week.. total in a month is #2400. Beans 1 rubber is #2500. That can last 1 month and 2 weeks.. rice #half rubber #2800. That will last one month. Mimee noddoles #3800. One month. Egusi 2cups #1000. It will carry one month. Ogbono #1500. 1 bottle of palmOil #900. 1 bottle of power oil#1600. This one dey carry me almost two month sef. Vegetable in a month #2000. Miscellaneous #3000.

Total of everything here cannot exceed #25k and I go eat well and even guage. So how is mama put cheaper
I'm having a hard time processing some details in this your write-up:

First, is this your budget reflecting current market prices? Cause I was in PH to see a cousin about 2weeks ago and some of these your prices are unrealistic compared to what I witnessed.

Second, how is it possible for someone who puts on the cooker everyday to use 2kg of gas for a month? You have to teach me how that works.

Third, are you insinuating that you eat 1K fish for a week? That is supposed to be one long tilapia or "scumbia" fish, and you feed on that for 7 days? Lol.

Fourth, do you mean to say your diet revolves around rice, beans, noodles and soups? Like, you never explore other dietary options? If so, I can't exactly say I envy you right now.

And I'm guessing you omitted garri, semo and fufu by error, yes? I'm open to corrections.

They are the one that started that technicalities nonsense. They dealt with tinubu party then and robbed them all. Election in africa is different from advanced country. Our leaders and judiciary dont have shame.

They Rigged elections anyhow without collating results, until tinubu started getting it back in SW gradually.

So he is paying them back in their own coin, NOTHING will happen.

Atiku self know he is chasing a shadow but just want to make sure he portraits tinubu bad in global space.

They are both criminal that stole cleverly. Infact he is more dangerous than tinubu. A school cert ordinary custom officer getting much money like that. Why can't he open tinubu shady investments yansh? Cos they did many things together, so he won't go into that line. That's politics of desperation for you.
You think you have saint politicians or leaders? Ney.
Halliburton scandal is there on his head, that sent a serving American senator to prison, many kids here don't know anything of the past, malabu shady deals are there, that is still in international court. I am sure every big crime commited in Nigeria, if they launch full investigation, his name's will be there. Now forming a democrat or saint. Good obi left him. He would have given obi headaches cos obi is lesser evil that will find it difficult to work with him.
He is too proud. He caused obi loosing that election because he needed money and obi wont give him that, so he opted for moneybags, okowa. Where is he since then? Now atiku regretting.
If Obi had run with him, no amount of rigging can safe APC.
But now, he is more desperate. But lawyer must chop na.
I doubt if anything will come out from this at the supreme. He will loose and they will fine him.
Thats how they wired this country.

No matter how you intend to put it, cooking is not cheaper than eating out. And both are equally subject to your earnings or "societal class" as you put it.

I'll have to be a madman to be going to Sketch restaurant in Abuja to eat daily when a basic plate of food is from 5K upwards, even if I'm earning 150K upwards. Yes, I may comfortably be able to spend 3K daily on food, but he equally can find a modest restaurant that caters for his feeding needs at relatively lower rates commensurate to his income.

Cooking in today's economy is no joke. Even as a single person, you'll squirm to make a decent meal with 2K. And do you intend to eat say rice, from morning to evening for two days? Haba!

On this, I agree with some of the comments above.

The world bank is notorious for keeping economies of developing countries on an average flow, and where policies of those individual countries are perceived to be gaining upward trajectories, they churn out pretentious advisories which end up being to their own advantage.

They and the IMF were the chief proponents of the removal of our petrol subsidy and the liberalisation of their own major currency in our economy. And their brown toothed stooge in Aso rock was all too willing to dance to their beats the moment he entered the villa. See where we are today?!

When have you ever heard them giving advice to Rwanda or Ethiopia? Cause leaders of those countries don't listen to them. But as big as we are, we keep having puppets as leaders who'll easily bend over for the west to fvck us to stupor.

For God sake, he ends only 30k monthly. There is no way 500 naira food is enough to see him through the day as of today. But if he manages to buy some food stuff of 10k, it will take him through the month before another salary is received.

Its simply understand that cooking at home will favor him the most, and save cost also.

Ps...500 naira food daily equals to 15k in 30 days(which he won't even have enough to eat with the 500H daily)
In Abuja:

A mudu of rice is 1400.
A mudu of beans is 1200.
A mudu of garri is between 900 and 1000.
A tuber of yam is at least 1200.
Five fingers of plantain sell for 1300.
A kilo of beef is 2800.
A kilo of fish is 2600.
A kilo of chicken is 3000.
(All prices are subject to location and economic suitability variations).

Please, kindly enumerate what quantity of those major food items he's going to buy that will keep him going for a month, while he considers other minor cooking items.

While you're at it, please don't forget that a 6Kg cylinder of gas now sells for 6K.

I'll respond further when you've done the needful.
