Christianity Etc › Re: Six Reasons Why Youths Port From Their Parents' Churches by Bollinger(m): 12:52pm On Dec 13, 2015 |
Lionize: Although it is One's fundamental right to choose to worship any being he/she desires, we know in this part of the world, one is actually subjected, or cajoled to worship the same God One's parents worship.
It is better to cajole or coerce One than meting out the capital punishment. It is very bad and wicked of those who go as far as killing their own who Port place/object of worship.
My question is: If you actually know you are heading to heaven and unbelievers/infidels are on their way to hell, why would you kill the unbeliever/infidel for not worshipping what you worship? You intend sending him/her to hell quicker than he/she wanted? Funny.
Oftentimes you see young people leave the churches where their parents worship to other churches; many for different reasons.
I am not saying that porting church is bad or sinful, after all, if you are not being spiritually fulfilled where you are, you seek fulfillment elsewhere. But, most of this young people leave because of ulterior reasons. Here are some of those as I have observed:
[b1. Spiritual Fulfillment:[/b]
Some people leave their family churches because they are not spiritually fulfilled where they are. Some feel they don't receive the word of God as they should and so they port to where they feel God would speak to them more clearly.
2. Miracles:
For those that do not know they can make miracles happen themselves, they port to a church where it happens if it doesn’t where he/she worships, not minding if the miracles are real or fake, if they have to pay stiff prices or not. From the search for husband, wealth, to the search for babies. Name them. You all know what I’m talking about here, so help me site some examples please.
3. Social reasons:
Many young people, or even some adults after attaining some social status, see their parents’ churches as ‘Old School”, and thus want to move to where their likes are, where it’s “happening”. For instance, guys who want to perm their hair would not remain in an Anglican, Catholic or Deeper Life church; you know where they would gravitate to.
4. Cover-up:
Many young people actually leave their original churches because they want to have the liberty to live in sin while inside the church. Yes, I just wrote that. Since their parent’s presence in the same church wouldn’t give them that chance, they seek where they can hide and do what they want. We know some guys go to church just because they want to woo a lady.
But the question is: must you go to church?
Remember, Galatians 6.7 says “Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.”
5. Marriage:
This mostly applies to ladies. When some ladies, after looking around their church and concluding that there are no eligible man that suits their taste, they seek where they would have options. I know a lady who was doing well and was in a church that forbids their members from marrying from outside the church. O Boy, when time kept moving only in clockwise direction without a pause, she ported. The rest was history.
6 Material Benefits:
I once went visiting and spent some few days with some boys in Kaduna, somewhere around a place called “Television”. I was surprised when one of the boys came back from church one Sunday with raw rice and other food ingredients. He said it was so in that church once in a while, and that had attracted him to the church. This was a boy who smoked wee-wee like he wouldn’t have Oxygen to live on without it.
There are many other reasons, but let me not bore you further for now.
Advise: If you want to serve God, serve Him in Spirit and in Truth (see John 4.23-24)
Parents should still ensure they put in eye in the affairs of their kids irrespective of where they worship. It is your responsibility to bring up your child in the way the child should go.
Shalom!

Christianity Etc › Re: The Coming Back Of Jesus: How To Be Prepared As A Christian by Bollinger(m): 11:25am On Dec 13, 2015 |
iliyande: In the New Testament's 260 chapters, Christ's return is mentioned no less than 318 times. Statistically, one verse for every 25 pages of the Bible refers to the return of Jesus Christ in some way, shape, or form. Make no mistake about it: Jesus Christ will come back again, and God has given us specific instructions for what we are to do while we wait.
We are to be watching for Him.
"Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching" (Luke 12:37 NKJV). We shouldn't get caught up in the things that dominate the minds and hearts of nonbelievers, such as what we will eat, drink, and wear. Instead, we should be consumed with our pursuit of the kingdom of God. We should seek, above all, the rule and reign of Jesus Christ in our lives.
We should be ready to go.
Let me ask you this: If Christ came back today, would you be ready to go with Him? If Christ came back at that moment, would a place where you're about to go or a thing you're about to do cause you to be ashamed or embarrassed in any way? If so, then you need to change what you're doing. If you are not living in a way that is pleasing to Him right now, then His return will come as a great shock and surprise to you.
We should want to become more like Jesus Christ each day.
According to 2 Peter 3:11-14, "You ought to live holy and godly lives. . . . So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless, and at peace with Him" (NIV). If you have a real sense of His imminent return, then it will impact the way you live and will cause you to purify yourself, even as He is pure (1 John 3:3).
We should anxiously await His return.
Have you ever been looking forward to seeing someone? You wait for the sound of that person's car in the driveway. You pull the door open before your friend can even knock. That's what it means to "anxiously await" someone's arrival. If anything would cause us hesitancy in saying, "Even so, come, Lord Jesus!" (Revelation 22:20 NKJV), then we need to carefully examine our lives.
We should be working (Luke 12:43).
While watching is the evidence of faith, working is the evidence of faith in action. Watching for the Lord's return will help us prepare our own lives, but working will assure that we will take others with us.
CC:lalasticlala, ishilove The funny thing is your Dad, Mum, aunty, brother, grand father, great grand father, etc have said, have been saying and will keep on saying this till we are all dust. Do you know how long people have been talking/receiving signs about the end of the world? since the day Jesus died on the cross. From the great crusade to the 1st and 2nd world war. From the great plague of 1346 where 70 percent of Europe's population lost their lives to the "black death", to when the aids disease was first discovered. Bro's, stop deceiving yourself. The only "end-time" that will happen is when the Earth is unlucky enough to cross paths with another meteorite. Or, ISIS/BH get's it's hands on a handful of nuclear bombs. The end of the world is often popular in societies where there is little or no hope. Hence it's popularity in Africa and Nigeria in particular. Move to an organized society and you won't even remember what the end of the world means. |

Fortissimo: I used to think this was the problem as well. But I'm not so sure now. From my experience, humans have a tendency towards chaotic behaviour if given the opportunity. So, the expression of chaotic behaviour is directly proportional to the opportunity to express it without punishment / embarrassment. That's why when Nigerians go abroad they try to compose themselves and why you can find a white man peeing on the streets of Lagos.
I think it boils down to an inadequate societal maintenance system. Of course as Nigeria continues the way it is, our mindsets are continually eroded. Our savagery becomes fully expressed. I completely agree with you. You see deep down, we all have dark thoughts and desires but what holds us back from acting on those thoughts and desires is the fear of consequences. There are none in Nigeria. None whatsoever. Do you think people in America are saints? Definitely not. But, they know committing a crime comes with heavy consequences and apart from that, the system will hunt you down, all the way to the ends of the earth until they get you. In Nigeria, you can pretty much kill someone in one state and move to another and live a comfortable life if you can afford it. There are no consequences for actions in Nigeria which is a disgrace. |

Lol. . . i will keep saying this till you all start to understand. Nigeria's problems can be summarised into one sentence. THE MENTALITY OF IT'S CITIZENRY IS ENTIRELY AND UTTERLY PHUCKED UP. I don't think you all realize how messed up the mentality in Nigeria is. Nothing can change with a mentality as jacked up as it is in Nigeria. You have a mentality of widespread corruption, lack of maintenance, jungle justice, littering, waste, disregard for laws, the belief that might is right, the "sir" disease, or should i say "sah", etc. Even if the right leader emerges, he/she would not make a dent in the fortunes of the country because of the way it's people think. why not strive to make it as a woman and then choose to marry a rich man?
I don't think there is any law of nature that restricts women to marrying poor dudes. You don't have to marry a struggling man. you don't have to marry an old man as well. you also don't have to marry a man whom you are not attracted to.
to me all these counts as "settling for at least something." or "accepting fate." this leads to regret later on. why not "shoot for the stars" and "pursue your dreams?" there's nothing actually wrong with that . . . right? Bros. . . . . . you. . . . . .get. . . . . . sense. |

It is easy to make these points, but, there also needs to be standards. Everyone, irrespective of gender, desires comfort, and preferably, that their wants, before their needs, even though their needs are more important, are readily met. Nobody wan suffer. As far as i am concerned, it is better for a man to encounter women who would say no to these points which would ginger and motivate you to achieve and do better. When i met my wife, she said yes to all the points listed, but i was just lucky. I was the exception. Fortune does not favor everyone like that. What am i even saying? The only reason this is even an issue is because it is Nigeria. Go to a developed country and ask the same questions and people'll be looking at you like "WTF". "What is this one talking about". Reason. Everyone is on an even playing field. Women don't depend on men and men don't depend on women. The opportunities are abound for everyone to prosper and succeed. You just have to want it. |

FabioPeter: Yes, it takes years to collapse but it also takes the right fiscal policy to halt its free fall. Some economies wittingly devalue their currency and rip its economic benefit but in this case it's a loss any way you look at it. The last recession in America took one and half years to stop before there was a turn around. At one time in their history, it took four years to stop one. It took quality leadership to make that happen. Nigeria has been in a recession since independence, so, blaming buhari is nonsensical. If you say that is not accurate, then point to a period in Nigeria's history when we were not in a recession. Oil was discovered in Nigeria in 1956 and we have been dependent on it ever since. When a whole country's source of income is solely based on one source of revenue and lately, the recovery of looted funds, then that country does not deserve to exist. Nigerian's have no grasp of it's history which is why we blame whoever is in charge at that point in time. Also, amnesia reigns supreme. They forget too quickly. Obasanjo did more damage to this country than any other President in our history, but for some reason people can't see it. Nigerians, i hail una. |

STFUareyouGod: wow! You have a very beautiful point. I also wonder sometimes why they don't migrate to those places that suit their practice. That place you won't have no 'infidels'. That place that will be just them Muslims. Places toy earlier mentioned. It's just like someone who's hydrophobic but keeps going to sea and pools. It just doesn't make sense
But then, some of them are good at heart. Some understand the positive side of Qoran and follow. For instance, will you compare the Muslims from western part of Nigeria with those from the Nort? No!!! So stopping them from migrating isn't the solution. Who cuts head off cuz of headache? It's not done. Other diplomatic ways could be figured. I married into a muslim family. My wife was a muslim. The fact is, there are a lot of wonderful muslims but, they keep quiet when they should be speaking out. Take Nigeria for instance. The northern elite are all keeping mum over what BH is doing. If they don't speak out then everyone is going to assume they are in support of what BH is doing. Plus, the Quran does not help matters. There are some phucked up shiit in there which is absolutely scary as hell. One could point out that the old testament has some jacked up shiit in the old testament too, but that is why the new testament exists. The old testament is just a reference for the new testament. Christians don't practice the ways of the old testament anymore. |

Perhaps he just need the publicity and its quit working for him I hope to God he doesn't become president, but for once i agree with trump. He has said what we are all thinking. Would you adopt a kid who you know hates you? The muslim religion does not accept american values but they so want to come to america and europe to live there. Why can't they emigrate to iran, kuwait, saudi arabia, etc? No. But, they are moving to Europe and America in droves because they love their freedom which the west and europe provides. The quran specifically tells muslims to kill every unbeliever and it is a capital punishment in saudi arabia if you publicly practice any religion other than theirs. If they believe in allah so much why not move there? Muslims are allowed to to mate with children as young as 9 years old. You might be like "WTF?", but guess what? Mohammed did. Those values are incompatible with American values and they know that americans will never accept it, but they still want to live there. Muslims are invading Europe and America with the aim of destroying their way of life and it is time to start fighting back. |
