PoliticsMetuh Destroyed Evidence Because He Said Too Much About Jonathan -EFCC by boman2014(op): 9:23am On Feb 27, 2016

Olisah metuh in handcuffs

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has
revealed what the spokesman of the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) Chief Olisa Metuh said in the statement he supposedly
tore.

Junaid Said, an operative of the anti-graft agency, told the
court that in the statement, PDP’s spokesman confirmed that
he got N400 million arms money, which was used for political
activities, his personal needs, and assignments delegated by
former president Goodluck Jonathan.

The EFCC counsel, Sylvanus Tahir, said that the investigation
into $2,1bn arms deal showed that the agency received a
petition in January 2016 from the office of the national security
Sambo Dasuki, which supposed that N400 million was given to
Destra Investment Limited, a company owned by Metuh.

The witness stated that investigations disclosed that the
transfer was done without any contract sanction. According to
him the team visited the residence of Metuh at Prince and
Princess Estate, Abuja, on January 5, and invited him to the
commission.

The politician honoured the summon and was quizzed by
Ibrahim Musa, Michael Wetkas, Bello Umar, David Nkpe, Bello
Adama and Eucharia Ibrahim.
The EFCC witness said the defendant offered a statement to the
agency.

He said: “My Lord, when he concluded writing his statement,
which was on four sheets of the EFCC statement form, I
collected the statement and read over it, I then handed the
statement over to my superiors Musa and Wetkas.

“When I was handing over the statement, the defendant said he
was surprised that he had written that much and that he felt he
had given too much information.

“Because of the comment, I was worried; I gave him the
statement sheets one after the other for endorsement. He
endorsed the first and second sheet, but he tore the third
sheet.

“The third sheet was where the defendant disclosed that he
received the money for PDP political activities, settle his
personal needs and made reference to former president
Goodluck Jonathan.

“My lord, he suddenly tore the statement sheet into pieces. In
great shock and surprise, I stood up [and] I asked him why he
did what he did. He said he did that because he was no longer
willing to give the information on that statement sheet.

“I then requested the pieces of the statement, he declined and
attempted to put them in his pocket, I then cautioned him and
told him to respect himself; he insisted that he was going to
dispose the torn sheet.

“I persuaded him to handover the tore sheet and brought one
plain paper before him; he poured the pieces on the plain
sheet. My other colleagues were there looking at us in surprise
as well.

“He furthered tore them into pieces, saying only in the movies
would this be recovered. I poured the pieces in the
commission’s transparent polythene bag for exhibit and made
entry of the incident into the EFCC’s incident duty station diary
as well as EFCC’s pocket notebook.

“Later, in the day he requested to make additional statement,
which he made, wrote his name and signed but declined to
make any other statement on the torn paper.”

The EFCC docked the controversial PDP’s spokesman before
an Abuja High Court sitting on a two-count charge bordering
on his alleged destruction of evidence against him.
Metuh pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The commission claimed that the said statement would have
been vital to its prosecution of the criminal case pending
against Metuh.

Later PDP’s politician received N300 million bail with two
sureties each, with like sum for “tearing own statement”.
The case is different from another seven-count charge of
alleged fraud against him.

PoliticsProtest In Benin As “Pure Water” Sells For N20 by boman2014(op): 10:17pm On Feb 25, 2016

– Pure water new price triggers protest in Benin

– Residents express mixed feelings over new selling price

A sudden increase in the price of sachet water, otherwise known as ‘pure water’ in Benin City, the Edo state capital, has caused heavy protest.

According to report reaching Naij.com, the sudden increase has led to many patrons of local eatery joints, popularly called ‘mama put’ drinking untreated borehole water kept.

However, it was learnt that while a few others who could afford the new price of pure water, opted for bottled water instead.

The increase in price sparked protest from hawkers of sachet water who lamented poor sales. It was gathered that residents can’t afford the N20 price tag of pure water as against the previous N10.

Prices of bottled water were also increased from between N50 and N60 to N70 or N80, depending on the brand.

A patron of one of the several eateries in the premises of Edo state secretariat complex, located along Sapele road, who gave his name simply as Iredia, told Naij.com that he decided to drink the untreated water as he could not afford to but 2 satchets of pure water at N40.

“My brother, how much is my salary? I used to buy N200 food and one or two sachets of pure water every day from the meagre salary I earn. But now that it has gone up to N20 per sachet, that means I have to manage the water in the jug. After all, that is what I drink at home,” Iredia said.

Angry hawkers of sachet water disclosed that a bag of sachet water, which contains 20 sachets, that used to sell for N100 now sells for N150.

One of the protesters, Helen Usunobun, who spoke to journalists, said the situation has worsen their plight, as they have to pay the mandatory N60 daily ticket fees to council officials.

She said they could not cope with the hike in price which would leave them making N30 profit for very bag of sachet water.

“They said dollar has gone up. Whether dollar is in the water, we don’t know,” she said.

Also speaking in the same vein, Enoma Blessing, many of her customers have had to reduce their intake of water, noting that some who used to consume four sachet water now buys only one per day.

John Irhue, a water factory operator, who described the situation as “terrible,” blamed the price hike on increase packaging and bagging materials.

He said a roll packaging film that used to sell for N600,000 last week now sells for N920,000, while the bagging material rose from N3300 to N5000.

Irhue said: “It is the sourcing of the materials that is causing this problems. Nobody can give water treatment and sell at the former price of N100. It is a terrible situation we have found ourselves.”

The Chairman of the Water Producers Association, Henry Eremokhai, however said the approved price by the association was N120.

According to Eremokhai who bemoaned the situation, said many water factory have been forced to close down due to dearth of packaging materials.

Meanwhile, Nigerians have reacted to the reported instability of the naira.

PoliticsReps Summon Adeosun, Emefiele Over Budget Saga by boman2014(op): 9:19pm On Feb 25, 2016
– Some MDAs risk zero allocation
– Certain grey areas identified in 2015 budget to be probed

The discrepancies identified in the 2016 budget proposal may appear to be unsettled ahead of next week’s plan by both chambers of the National Assembly to harmonise its budget.

The House of Representatives on Thursday, February 25 summoned the minister of Finance Kemi Adeosun, CBN Governor Godwin Emefiele, the Accountant General of the Federation Ahmed Idris and Minister of Budget and National Planning.

This is even as many ministries, departments and agencies of government risk zero allocation in 2016 if they or their oversighting committees miss deadline set by the House of Representatives for final harmonization Udo Ndoma.

Speaking on Thursday, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara issued a stern warning to committees yet to submit their budget report to do so within 24 hours or risk zero allocation to all the MDAs they represent. Of all the 97 committees, only 15 had submitted their budget report to the Committee on Appproriation.

In a communication from the Appropriations Committee read at the opening of the Thursday plenary session, the speaker directed chairmen of all the standing Committees to submit and defend their MDAs budget within 24 hours or risk zero budget for 2016.

Considering the enormous work before the committee on appropriation, its chairman Abdulmumin Jibrin informed all the members that the last session of the budget defence for Friday, 25th February scheduled to commence at 10amnwould start by 8pm.

While giving update on the presentation of the 2016 budget so far, Abdulmumin Jibrin, chairman house committee on appropriations confirmed that the budget proposals of the MDAs being presented by all the standing Committee have been harmonised with their Senate counterparts.

“Since by tomorrow we will finish taking the reports, we have agreed that we will invite the Minister of Budge and Planning, Minister of Finance, the Accountant General of the Federation, the Director of Budget Office and Central Bank Governor and engage them extensively on the entire budget.
“We also have pending issues on the 2015 budget, so they have to come with 2015 budget performance and then we will go into special session,” Jibrin
stated.

He also directed the Clerk of the Committee to liaise with the office of the Clerk of the House to access the members’ database for easy dispatch of message to all the 360 members and various Committees on the 25th February deadline for final submission and consideration of the MDAs’ budget.

Meanwhile, the speaker of House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara has assured Nigerians that the implementable 2016 budget will begin by March ending.

Dogara who gave the assurance on Thursday, February 25, when he received the Nigerian association of chambers of commerce, industry, mines and agriculture in his office in Abuja, however admitted that the budget has some imperfections.

Earth-shattering news are coming from various websites! The
1500-year-old Bible, which was discovered in Ankara, Turkey’s
capital, in 2000, refutes the crucifixion of Jesus Christ.

Moreover, it says that he was not the son of God but a Prophet,
who didn’t die and ascended into heaven alive.

The 1500-year-old bible was found in Turkey, in the
Ethnography Museum of Ankara

It also states that it was Judas Iscariot who was actually
crucified and calls Apostle Paul the Impostor. This information
was taken from the gospel of Barnabas, who in this work is
one of the twelve apostles.

There is a theory that the modern Bible was formed out of four
canonical gospels by the Catholic Church during the Council of
Nicea, while the Gospel of Barnabas as well as many others
were ommitted.

The book along with antiquities, illegal excavations, and
explosives were reportedly confiscated from a group of
smugglers in a Mediterranean-area operation. It is written in
the Aramaic laguage with gold letters and onto loosely-tied
leather.

The Bible that contradicts the New Testament teachings of
Christianity is reportedly valued up to 40 million Turkish Liras
(about $28m). While authenticity of the book is still under
question some experts and religious authorities believe that it
is original.

However, some scholars branded the Gospel of Barnabas Bible
a forgery written during the Middle Ages. Meanwhile, the
Vatican has asked Turkish authorities to let them examine the
contents of the book.

PoliticsThese 17 Facts Prove Buhari Is Not The Killer Of The Naira by boman2014(op): 2:13pm On Feb 25, 2016
A lot has been said about the falling of the country’s currency, the blames were all toward to President Buhari.

I investigated on the bedeviling issue and I discovered the problem is never to be linked with the present administration as the initiator or the genesis of crippling the national economy.

Please let me help our minds with this simple economic terms that dollar has not increased since Buhari became president but only an effort by the present government to improve the economy is making others evil agencies to cajole the naira value in favor of the dollars.

1. Dollar is not our currency so dollar should not be our business.

2. Our problem is not the government but our problem is our importers and consumers.

3. Naira has remained at 197 naira to 1 dollar since Buhari became president.

4. Buhari has promised not to devalue the naira and he has maintained that promise.

5. Both at CBN and at interbank rates, dollar has remained 197.

6. However because we are too lazy to produce what we use in Nigeria we import even toothpicks and matches.

7. Buhari does not like the importation of luxury goods because luxury goods is the reason for most corruption, that is why he banned 41 products from having access to forex.

8. However when Nigerian importers insisted on importing those 41 products, FG asked them to find their dollar at the BDCs parallel market also known as black market.

9. And to discourage the pressure Nigerians are mounting on the Naira just to get dollars for importation, CBN banned DMBs from selling dollars to BDCs.

10. To survive the pressure of excess dollar demands, BDCs resorted to sourcing for dollars from neighbouring countries through illicit money laundering routes.

11. Because of the risks faced by BDCs to source for dollars, and because of the increase in demand for dollars by importers because China just resumed from their business holidays, BDCs keep increasing the price at which they exchange dollars to naira and now it is 400 naira to 1 dollar.

12. However that does not mean that government has changed the exchange rate because if our genuine importers go to CBN and fill Form M to import raw materials for local production, they will get dollars at 197 naira each.

13. So the problem is that we love to consume luxury foreign products yet we are too lazy to manufacture them here.

14. For example you will see a dull girl using iPhone 5 without even knowing simple physics and computer engineering part of how that phone was produced.

15. I want Buhari to ban every foreign product from Nigeria until Nigerians learn to produce and use made-in-Nigeria products.

16. Let us stop complaining about dollar as if dollar has become Nigeria’s currency.

17. It is even bad enough that most of those complaining about the high exchange rate of dollar do not have 1 single dollar in their purse.

Social media is not social in Nigeria, it’s more like a place where people
attack each other and always on the look out for an opportunity to rubbish

PhonesCybercrime: Doing This On The Internet Can Send You To Prison – NCC by boman2014(op): 7:01pm On Feb 23, 2016
The Nigerian communications Commission (NCC) has warned Nigerians that
the cyberspace is not aan venue to promote hatred as there are laws guiding
against such.

Mr Tony Ojobo

This was made known by Mr Tony Ojobo, the director of public affairs of the
commission on Monday, February 22 during a discussion on what the new
media has to do with cybercrime act.

The programme which was part of the week-long Social Media Week was
geared towards examining the issue of cybercrime and how it affects the
new media.

Ojobo who was part of the discussant explained that a lot of laws were
available which internet users have failed to familiarize themselves with. He
noted that people misuse the cyberspace by making xenophobic, comments,
hate speech which are contrary to what is allowed.

He cited an example that if a person receives contents that contained child
pornography and shares with other persons using the internet; the person is
likely to go to prison even though he did not produce the material.
Speaking with naij.com, The NCC public affairs director encouraged the use
of the cyberspace with sense.

“Developed countries don’t want regulation of the internet but it is necessary
in developing countries to prevent cyber-crimes. Nigerians are not reading
the law which is why media users, bloggers and journalist are sometimes
sent to prison when they don’t get their facts right.”

Ojobo explained that the laws were not there to deny Nigerians their freedom
of expression but to prevent people from inciting hatred.

PoliticsHow Abacha Performed Better Than Obasanjo, Yaradua, GEJ by boman2014(op): 6:48pm On Feb 23, 2016
A recent survey by Nairametrics has revealed that former military president
of Nigeria, late General Sani Abacha, performed more than every other
Nigerian ruler since 1999 with the capital expenditure against the recurrent
expenditure.

The report, which was influenced by the recent anomalies discovered from
Nigeria’s 2016 budget, showed that the military government fares better than
the democratic leaders in this aspect of the budget, especially the Abacha
government.

This is coming in spite of the massive loot recorded in his administration,
and the revelations made by the foreign banks where he reportedly hid most
of the wealth he amassed.

When civil servants and public officials in a democratic system of
government fail to contribute to nation building despite their huge earnings,
bureaucracy takes over and capital projects are most hit.

In fact, successive governments in the country have had to deal with this
anomaly over the years as the recurrent expenditure is always way above
capital expenditure.

But the Abacha government proved to be just ahead of the democratically
elected leaders since 1999 as the chart below indicates.

Capital Expenditure vs Recurrent Expenditure (including interest payment)
1994-2014. Source: Nairametrics

According to the chart, the period between 1994 and 1999 showed that the
capital expenditure as a percentage of government revenue outstrip recurrent
was as high as 77%, however, when the democratically elected presidents
came in, things took a negative turn.

On how Abacha was able to pull this stunt under his administration, which no
leader after him has been able to, Nairametrics noted that Petroleum Trust
Fund (PTF) managed by current Nigerian president, Muhammadu Buhari
carried out a lot of capital projects and there was basically a parallel
government at the time.
