ElRazur:

I am aware of sampling and those who have made a name from it. smiley Pete rock is one of those that blows me away when I watch him work on weird sounding sounds, but yet manages to make some hot joint out of it.

I am not about to ignite a debate of MPC V NI Maschine, but from what I have seen and what I have owned [used to own a 2000xl and 1000] I will take a Maschine over an MPC all day. Maschine is less than two years old, yet it can do almost if not everything an establish platform like the MPC can and cost less.

I am aware of the FPC on friuity loops too, I am not just sure how it the Juno works with the FPC - Unless off course one is using it as a Midi Controller.

Glad to see more and more people coming out of the wood work. Oh the link you posted is not working - "Problem loading page" - please have a look again, it may need fixing perhaps?

Good you already in the sampling range, IT's not rerally new to you then. Pete rock is a beast.

What I see about NI MAschine is that its developers took time out to make maschine suck on MPC features. Butbe it MPC or NI MAschine!!! The real thing is to make good music out of it and since you're kinda inlonve with it, Make good Music brother.

Using it as a midi Controller is exactly my point, you use it to trigger samples

thanx for the comments on my beat, much appreciated.

Lez make music.

ofokaofoki:

WONDERS SHALL NEVER END SO BOUZYMILL IS ALSO A PRODUCER. NA WA O. ANY LINK BOUZY>? grin

lol, Yeah, actually. Making Sample based HipHop beats is really what I love to do and I do so much. But I love to take it as a hobby than a full time job since I wouldn't do well in the commercial (pop) scene.

My production name is "Sick Da Chruth" and this beat is unmastered, and not well mixed yet, Just sum of my productions,

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=LZVLFGDQ

Would appreciate comments, It's sample based, nothing more. Drums are chopped from breakbeats,

ElRazur:

Hey, thanks for your comments, it is appreciated.

I like the idea of sampling and will get more into it once I get the NI maschine. It can be done on the Juno, but it is cumbersome - had to contact the technical support section of Roland lol.

What programs/Hardware do you do for you sampling? Oh by the way, I shy away from stuck sound and tend to tune them a bit and the drums I always makes sure I layer here and there so as to give a different sound than the on-board ones.

sampling is cool and shows artistry, though some composers would tell you it is rubbish. It makes you feel the aesthetics of music as an artform. To get into sampling, you need to listen to old artist, and check out producers' like Damu, Wajeed, Pete Rock, 9th WOnder, J DIlla, DJ PRemier, and a whole lots more, I must tell you this, If you don't feel Deep hip hop, you might find it hard to love sampling,

About Equipments. Though Equipment plays a very good role in music making, but good music don't rely on equipments. There are so many equipments for sampling but so far, MPC takes the number 1 spot. NI maschine is cool but mehn nuthing makes it grimey like an MPC 500, 1000, 2000XL, 4000/ MPD/ MPK and all that. Alternatively, you can connect your Juno G to FL Studio's FPC (A simulation of MPC by Imageline) and trigger your samples from there.

there's much to say my brother.
Music/Radio / Re: Another ElRazur Beat [part 4] **Free Download** by bouzymill(m): 8:32pm On Mar 09, 2010
I would like to say this. If we can just take our minds off Hip Hop and R&B and listen to this guy's piece, then we would realize he has actually done something, I agree it sounds more like a soundtrack for young kids commercial on TV but it is still a "composed piece.

Where the problem lies is the composers inability to define a style for the beat or maybe a genre,

@ El Razor
I'm sure you've got a genre you like and that's definitely the kind of music you will produce, take extra ordinary listen to some of the edge cutting instrumentals and take cues from them,

eldee:

@ElRazur

Maynne . . . I cannot say anything else.
You know in the good ol' dayz when they used to have power cuts at TV stations and they used to stop inbetween to say they'll be right back??
This is what I used to hear grin grin

I think the main problem with this is the fact that it carries no emotion. . . and the piano tune was just not pleasant to the ear.
The piano going softer/in a different key would make a good background sound for slow paced album outro. . . and maybe a high pitched soul sound/a couple of kids singing.
Listen to M.I's Thank You and It's Ova Ish, Kanye's Last Call

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EeRO97v3ydI

It's kinda getting more popular now especially in debut albums.

I think you should do a Kanye beat sometime. . . it'll be cool

Eldee, you want the composer to take cues from higher planes with this tip. Kanye doesn't just compose. He samples plus his drums are not just FL Studio or Juno G preloaded drums. They were chopped out of Drumbreaks. And that is the best way to put emotions down to your compositions. Take old Records like 60s, 70s, 80s and even these days 90s music, jazz, soul or funk, chop into whatever beats, 4,8 or 16, and re arrange the pieces, sometimes with sum vocals popping in and out, then You're making a soulful beat.

It sounds easy but not so easy as composing from the scratch,

I'm a sample based producer (for fun) myself and I think it takes you to appreciate music deeply to bring out the best out of samples,

anywayz, botomline is the composition is good but it's got no style or genre to it, it's like playing with equipments.

one.

I see real Headz all up in this joint, To make this kind of Decision you just gotta look for someone who did his special.

I co sign Most of the albums that y'all have mentioned but Seriously, "Bone Crusher - Attenshun" made my number 1.

"We've been doing this for so long, f*ck the intro shit, Start the music"

Simple and basic, that is artistic.

But seriously I don't believe they still have good threads like this on nairaland.

Thanx to every for the love and the creative/constructive criticisms, I made the album cover to show love and just correct some issues I'm having with the Original cover and I realized they've been well taken in by people of NL.

@ H.J

Got you mail fam and you alreasdy on my facebook page. We can share sh.ts, am sure.

@ AQBAR
Welcome to the thread. Lez keep shit rolling. Heard some of your joints. I must commend your realness. Keep keeping it Bruv.

@Mafia4life
Bruv. You talked about Skillz in your post. feel yah but i need to point out some facts. It is too too too early to make comments on Skillz. He's only done just one track he performed at the blast concert. I watched the concert and even my bruva that wasn't a hiphop head said he was feeling the guy. However, what most cats on Nairaland were quoting from the guy was the hook of the track and that's not it in hiphop.

Don't get it wrong, i like the cat, but i don't think he has proved anything yet. as far as we're talking real hiphop here. And its deeper than that.

@H.J

Don't stress too much on sampling here on nairaland. The regular posters don't know the half.

@bouzymill,word is bond.mhp is a member of Souljazz, its been a real struggle from day one because of how under appreciated real hiphop is.We still trudge on for the love though.

If you can also lay your paws on "click" by skyzoo ft torae(prod by dj premier),matter of fact,i'l send u em' tracks by mail.

Bout the beats:soul is where i dwell.once i get em' i'l send the finished work in a few days.won't also mind a collab.

Try using a high speed cybercafe to download and upload, dialup only slows ish down.one

@G.A.B
Yeah!!! i have the skyzoo ft torae track. Got it from a compilation i downloaed from hiphopkillerz website. Mehn, You just too onpoint. DOnt mind sending through mail, Yeah! i'll search for a good cafe with nice bandwith for download.

Yeah!! about the soulbeats, I got you and shit's about to drop, send three on suday. upstraight.

phatboisly:

basically the problem we've got with appreciatin hip hop in nigeria is two fold
firstly we basically don't understand what hip hop means and therefore we can't really relate to it,why would you listen to KRS 1 or Rakim rappin bout stuff you don't understand when there's enough bubblegum rap and pseudo hip hop you understand and therefore can relate to?
secondly it's the weak hip hoppers we've got, with the exception of a few rappers esspecially raprers of SWAT ROOT,Def O clan and Loopy extraction the rappers in nigeria are mediocre.some of them can't even count bars, all they do is rap bout moey, bling bling, girls, alcohol and parties.really they shoulda been thugs.
but on the bright side,we've got a few great rappers.top of the list would be node9 aka Nigel Benn aka Fidel Mad Flow aka IX aka modo aka etc.M.I.'s ot half bad,The OverDose is equally ill,Terry the Rapman,Pherowshuz,Jesse Jags,Illbliss etc are keepin it live.
so all in all nigerian hip hop is good, just needs to grow.

yeah!! you're right, but i beg to differ, sum Nigerian's dont use their 6th sense that's why hiphop sounds alien to them. Alabai did a track called Voice of God and what they said was it was blasphemy, you can feel the myopic stance.

These rappers you've listed are dope but to me contaminated already with the fame. So, we need the real mcs to come save the game. am talking the Str8 Buttah (NIgerian Wutang), SoulJazz (Nigerian Brand NUbians., lol) and the whole underground lords, you know. T|hose are the real kings. Peace to Modenine but the Hero hasn't come.

Oh God!!! I'm smelling you guys. Phew! I thought we were done for when back in 07 i saw kolomental won the award for best hiphop and gongo aso this year clinched the same award category at mamas. I took it solely upon myself and my non- understanding, fans of jargons friends laughed at me. Had i been at the award, i'd done a kanye. I must confess i started having hope in Naija music after the likes mode, MI, blaise etc came aboard. I hope we continue to encourage these heads so they fizzle out. I wonder where thoroughbreds are now. I can only find ill'blis.

ThoroughBreds are not that intact. Obiwon now does R & B, IllBliss still very much here, B Elect, Still Around (Heard one new joint Back or sumthing like that, Amaka, she still dey, Elajoe, still dey. What they need is a reunion.

doublesix:

this debate has been going on for a very long time,so my fellow nairalanders, hip hop heads and otherwise, let me have your contributions pls.

It depends on the perspective from which you are looking at it. Heads are tired of going for the topic mostly because it has gone worse to the point that it is even wrong to say "Real" Hip Hop. They Believe hip hop is HipHop.
BUt if you're asking in terms of Rap as a music, then it's all about the Poetry, some will say with accompaniments like beats but i beg to differ cos, you can keep rhyming without a beat behind you and the shit is still Rap. Now, the rap doesn't have to do with maybe you're trash talking or Talkin consciously, the main focal point is the skills u put to your words. Now this is not my own purview of real hip hop

Real HipHop to me is which has to do with the culture, you may be a rock, soul, afrobeat fan and still be HipHop. When what you eat is hiphop, what you wear is hiphop, what you say is hiphop, what you sleep on is hiphop, then you are hip hop.

Hence, you can be a rapper and not be hiphop. That's my point.

I can't get upset over this . . .
This is the easiest way to get you point across to Nigerians, NL taught me.
At the end of the day, most of the people are argue with are on my YiM/Facebook
You say it like jerking off on Modenine's pic is my civic duty.
Have I ever said anything good about Terry Tha Rapman, Eldee, Naeto C or OD??

We can stay here and act like we don't know who the Modestans are.
I coined the word but everyone that's ever visited the NL Music section knows the usual suspects.
We know the people that throw common sense into the Thames once Modenine is involved.
See how the first page of this thread went and tell me if you can't spot a Modestan.
Maybe you missed the 'It's his choice' part of my post.
He makes his decisions, fine . . . but I will not let anyone go all ballistic on Caliente for saying what any five year old would easily notice.

Nah, wasn't saying it that way. I just have the believe that u don't like Mode9 and that affects ur posts about him. Plus i am also not in support of ''u are a fool'' kinda posts, i don't do it unless u am directing it to skingo. Well, i know Mode9 is still going to spark a lot of criticism by the time his album comes out. that am sure of. very sure of. Till then, lez wait and see what kind of whether that comes. peace

U guys should understand something. Kanye West started all this immediately his mother died and lost his girlfriend plus started getting lawsuit anyhow. Punched Paprazi, Punch that, punch this, Booed this Booed that. Noticed it all when he brought out 808s and heartless. He started smoking and at a point he almost cursed his fame. There's always a turn in one's life like that when you start misbehaving as a result of too much fuckups. All he needs is someone to pull him back cos his girlfriend can't help him. AMBER can't think for herself let alone help Kanye. He only needs help sincerely.

Plus, he didn't disgrace his race, he disgraced himself cos after he did that, Beyonce who belongs in his race tried to put things back . So Kanye is Kanye.

So, He only needs to be brought back by someone, his mentor would call his attention to it (JayZ) besides am sure Kanye was drunk before he did that.

That's what he needs, wh to tell him right.

eldee:

I'm allergic to bullshit and i'm seeing too much of it here . . .
Modestans make this so easy, 'in favour of Modenine, it's the truth'
This makes it so freaking hilarious . . . I don't have time for all this, I've made my point and all they can come up with is a bunch of lame excuses.

A poster noticed this senseless lifting, came on Nairaland and posted what he thought could attract reasonable 'rapheads'
First 9-10 posts were filled with crap like 'You're a fool', 'You're stupid' . . . undecided

Then I asked for the track, listened to it, because I suspected that I might be biased, I gave it to other people to listen, same reply.

All of a sudden, the trend of the replies changed . . . 'Modenine cannot sound like M.I because he never uses the auto-tune' - Thank God he edited it on time . . . 'Modenine sounded hoarse' cheesy cheesy(Sum idiot that doesn't know hoarse has been used to describe everything from DMX to Johnny Cash) . . . M.I doesn't have a voice (Then how do we always identify him on songs with all three of the Choc City boys??) undecided . . . they get more hilarious as the number of replies increase.

Y'all need to wake up and smell the bleeping latte . . .
No one came out to say Terry Tha Rapman, OD, Eldee, Saucekid, Ruggedman sound like M.I.
Why?? Because they don't!!!

We all know this is Modenine's idea of how to go commercial . . .
One simple faux pas here is obvious, his fans wanted him to do an M.I not to sound like him
I don't care if it was not intentional . . . it's his choice.

Eldee, there's not need to get upset over debates. that's what they are, debates. When i made my point, u brought out what i didn't say out of my post that i said: 'modenine can't sound like M.I unless he's on autotune'

What i said is M.I sounds like lil wayne (accepted to him), and if Modenine sounds like M.I, that means Modenine sounds like Lil Wayne, which is not possible for modenine unless he is on autotune, i didn't mention M.I. When u typed ur response and i saw it, i decided not to go for it cos i didn't say it.

BUt what the heck are we talking bout, if he decides to put his shit down that way, Fine. I won't argue anymore, i just replied this because it related to me and that anyone opposed to your views is a modestan is wrong. It's like people calling you ''mode9 hater'', you don't like it too but u've stayed cosistently at it for good two years. never said anything good about him

How do we know it is Modenine's way of going commercial? atleast, he is doing it for you people, maybe you'ld vhange you mind about him. He has also been affected by the mass appeal syndrome. Now u people can dance to his club bangers atleast that is what you want: ''soft landing''

So, accept him and let him breathe pls.

I aint dissing, just droppin my points
