PoliticsRe: Workable Suggestions To GEJ On How To End The Boko Haram Menace. by brabus(m):
401kk: I also asked this question a while ago but nobody responded.
You see, our lack of proper education has been a huge stumbling block to our collective development. Nigerians talk and argue loosely, without getting a basic understanding of what they're arguing about. Most people who criticize the president for not being able to curtail the BH crisis don't know
1. What the BH sect is
2. Their demands and objectives
3. The scope of their operation
4. Apparatus and strategies being put forward by the authorities to stop them.
5. Why it's been a difficult task for the authorities to stop so far
etc

These bunch of misplaced Nigerians would rather throw the blames at the president forgetting that
1. The BH insurgency and other insecurity issues did not start during his tenure.
2. Nigeria has been very disorganized before he became president
3. We have no proper intelligence gathering unit in place
4. The NPF is filled with lazy, unintelligent, dispassionate and corrupt nigerians
5. No proper citizen recognition system or database in place
6. Our borders have been porous before he became president
7. He is not to blame for the high level of poverty, illiteracy and religious stupidity in the north
8. He is not to blame for the presence of mules in the security forces
9. He's trying his best to eradicate the menace

If you want to criticize the president, do it well.

Don't quote me please. I'm out
Are these suggestions to the president on how to tackle Boko Haram or suggestions to the Critics on how to tackle the President?

Just asking!

gerald28: Why do you people aways make a moronic comment, do you think ribadu and fashola ticket is sellable??
I think Ribadu is perhaps not ready, as he
hasn't held any elective office, but he has
potential. He has liberal instincts, calls a spade a spade, but can't articulate well why we need the policies we need. And he is very likeable.

Of course, the North won't annoint him as there candidate for 2015. And pairing him with Fashola is not looking good either. After watching the Presidential Debate, I see he won't fair any better than GEJ.

But obviously 2015 election is 'Opposition vs PDP', so any good combination fielded by opposition will likely get electorate's nod.

Meristem: THIS IS RAT POISON!!!! I have hands on experience on a 3 bedroom bungalow project and I swear this poster wrote this list from the warm comfort of his/her jacuzzi! I even have an excel worksheet for my job so far, estimated costs, actual costs and all. OP if you expressly request, I can forward it to you. In naija, everybody knows everything about everything! if u get started on this 15k,15k,5k list, u'd be standed with a concrete slab, an unpaid mortgage, a blown up life savings...and no house. if you dont believe me,try. So many factors determine the cost of a building, like LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION (how many times did I say that?). ***switches back to listening mode***
Rat Poison? Kindly post your costs and let's have any building material supplier vet both of them. The fact that you spent millions doesn't make you any better than those who spend less.
Beside that, do you expect a man who bought a land of N300k to start putting chandelier of N200k, Bath Tub of N150k, Granite Countertop, Fence, Spanish Tiles, etc. That's foooolishness!

The act of being wise is knowing what one needs to overlook.

Interestingly, a lot of ignorants talk about location as key determinant of build cost. I don't think so. The size, quality of the finishes and features of a house determines its final build cost.
I can choose to buy a N60 tungsten bulb, while you choose to buy a N800 energy saving bulb. What has location got to do with that?

The materials needed to build a duplex in Lekki and a village in Ijebu is the same. The number of blocks, cement, iron rod etc. But if you want to prove Big Boy and decide to build on the Atlantic Ocean, that's your problem!

@OP, I'm not supplying you any material. Take time to do a market survey and find out for yourself

Keep in mind my advice - Build Simple. There's a lot of time to upgrade later in the future. Put your mind on items that should be quality upfront and those that can be upgraded later.

Of the names listed above, Fashola sounds the most interesting.

I can see him as a person to keep an eye on.

Why Nigeria must decentralise, by Babatunde Raji Fashola:

He said: “Does the central government have the human, institutional and governmental capacity to provide basic needs such as primary education, water supply, sanitation and primary health care in a reliable manner in all the 774 Local Governments?
“As a corollary, we might also ask whether the Federal Government is able to maintain all the 9001 roads in Lagos state and make them pothole free all year

I am not ready to vote anyone who will have my unborn kids go through what I go through now just to live basic life which is the right of all. The Tinubu that you mention, I can provide you with several concrete proof on how he highhandedly pushed out people from the waterfront that his Oriental Hotel is built, I can also take you to Kizito bar, where he nearly render the owner of that business homeless with his political powers to take over that entire region, he didnt stop there, he crossed over to the opposite lane to take over the Oniru family's plot using the LCC staff and machinery, but the Oniru Family is a tough knot to crack, he came into Lekki Phase 1 and instituted a new law that makes it mandatory for plot owners to develop it within 6 months or loss the plot to the State government, he has overtook several plots and sold many of them and developed others for personal use, I can point to one of his bullet-proof mansions at Fola Oshibo Street in LP1. Do you want me to continue with analysis of the Alpha Beta imbroglio and the battle unseat Fashola just to keep his loot machine afloat. Dont be sentimentally supportive of these wicked and corrupt politicians, he wont give you bread for breakfast. Tribe and region does not earn you a place in paradise and that paradise can be here on earth if Tinubu and the rest of the corrupt politicians can share one-tenth of what they own to every other Nigerians to keep. Being patriotic is an expression of your love for your country and not the government or an individual. I don't have to agree with the policies of the federal government in order to love my country.
Beside, Nigera was founded on the fact that some citizens didn't agree with how the Oyinbos were governing us.
It is the responsibility of the citizens to keep elected officials accountable for their acts and the policies they establish by criticizing the country when things are going wrong.

So why should criticizing GEJ's administration be an exception?
PropertiesRe: Caught Between Paying Rents And Building A House. by brabus(m): 7:51pm On Jun 26, 2012
hunniebomb: Instead of building with low amount, why not lease the land. Lots of houses around lagos (can't remember specific areas) are contructed with inferior (low-grade) building materials in the bid to cut-cost (stick to budget) or complete construction in records time. Such building sink overtime and might eventually collapse.
So if possible lease the land and use the proceeds for other investments.
Madam, I have a plot of land to lease. Can you refer me a lessor?

PhysicsQED: Kobo, you are incorrigible and I wonder why I even bother with you sometimes.

GEJ was against revealing his asset declaration (declaring publicly) in 2007, but went ahead with it because Yar'Adua, his boss, wanted that.

GEJ is against revealing his asset declaration now. The constitution does not require public declarations of one's assets.

The Freedom of Information Act would be useful in forcing the CCB to reveal information on GEJ's assets except that:

"Specifically, Section 153 of the Constitution establishes a Code of Conduct Bureau to ensure, among other things, that all public officers, as defined in Part II of the Fifth Schedule, declare their assets on assuming office and immediately their terms of office expire. Paragraph Three of Part 1 (A) of the Third Schedule, empowers the Bureau to receive declarations made by all public officers, examine same and keep them in custody. Paragraph 3(C) says the Bureau shall have the power to "retain custody of such declarations and make them available for inspection by any citizen of Nigeria on such terms and conditions as the National Assembly may prescribe."

The Constitution trumps the Freedom of Information Act so the CCB people are correct on blaming any withholding of information on the National Assembly's failure to describe under what particular terms and conditions the CCB may release Jonathan's information.

If making it mandatory that asset declarations to the Code of Conduct Bureau are revealed to the public is a good way to fight corruption - it might have some impact - then every government official at every single level of government should make them public. I don't understand why people assume that the president of the country is the only potential thief.

You don't have any point here. You should be asking why the Constitution was written in a way that the National Assembly has to dictate how and under what conditions declarations of assets may be released for inspection by citizens instead of going on about imaginary constitutional violations.

You're just too lazy to dig up information for yourself, like that professor. This is my last response to you on this thread.
Oga, are you Mr Reuben Abati? You seem to know something!

PoliticsRe: GEJ Is A Joke & Clueless - Ghanaian Prof. Ayittey by brabus(m): 6:14pm On Jun 26, 2012
PhysicsQED: Kobo kobo kobo, I'm disappointed. You usually seem good at picking little holes wherever you can and building mountains out of small details but in this case you're just wrong.

This is what the constitution actually says:

"140. (1) A person elected to the office of President shall not begin to perform the functions of that office until he has declared his assets and liabilities as prescribed in this Constitution and he has taken and subscribed the Oath of Allegiance and the oath of office prescribed in the Seventh Schedule to this Constitution.

(2) The oaths aforesaid shall be administered by the Chief Justice of Nigeria or the person for the time being appointed to exercise the functions of that office. "

Now how does one "declare his assets and liabilities as prescribed in this Constitution"?

In this manner:

"Declaration of assets

11.

- (1) Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, every public officer shall within three months after the coming into force of this Code of Conduct or immediately after taking office and thereafter -

(a) at the end of every four years; and

(b) at the end of his term of office, submit to the Code of Conduct Bureau a written declaration of all his properties, assets, and liabilities and those of his unmarried children under the age of eighteen years."

And the meaning of this?

Assets are declared

a) within 3 months of taking office or "immediately" after (not before) taking office

and

b) 4 years after taking office

and

c) after leaving office

GEJ declared his assets to the Code of Conduct Bureau in May 2010 after becoming president in February of 2010 and has not left office since then. Maybe you'll have a case four years from when he took office or when GEJ leaves office, but until then, you're just blowing hot air on this particular issue like the Ghanaian professor was.

I know this is not too difficult to understand, Kobo.

Please try and open your own eyes next time.
How come you're not on Dana flight? M*ron!
Why did he declared his asset in May 2010 afterall he did so when he was sworn-in with President Yar'adua in 2007. They both did and it wasn't up to 4 years.

Cook up another lie for your master!!! Nigerians are no fool.

GboyegaD: I also need advice. I once bought 2plots of land around Ofada somewhere very close to the new Nestle factory and the community then told us we needed to do something on it. I chose to fence mine and I spent so much fencing it. However, when I visited the place after several months, I realised no other person had fenced theirs and now I am quite skeptical about building anything because I do not know when others would start developing theirs. What would you advice?
Nothing stops you bro! Shell construction for now is not a bad idea.
Also, it depends on what you're planning to put up. If its commercial - OK. But if its for personal use, bros chill out a bit. The land aint running.

I knew that place like the back of my hand. Its too isolated but with Nestle and other companies/estates springing up in the area, the prospect is very high.

talking about issues and weakness of the present administration, who do you think Opposition Parties should have as a presidential candidate for 2015?
I think we should we be setting things up now so that that person is well-known and has a strong resume by the time of the elections?

Who are the rising superstars in the current political dispensation? We need to start identifying good candidates now and start getting their name out there.

I'll tell you one of my heroes is Gov. Fashola of Lagos state. I am not sure whether he is right to be our candidate or not, but I really like the way he thinks and articulates why we need good policies. Lagos is a state for all (Yoruba, Hausa, Igbo) and Fashola is managing the state well.

Who are some of the good guys you really like and who you think might be the next rising star to make a great run at the presidency in 2015?
