Demdem: MKO was definitely a great man however i do not like this idea to be honest. we now have Moshood Abiola University Lagos. wait a minute, i think there is one Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in ogun state huh huh
GEJ: What should I tell them?
Abati: Immortalize MKO Abiola by renaming UNILAG after him.
GEJ: I thought there's Moshood Abiola Polytechnic in Ogun state, which the state governor is planning to upgrade into a University.
Abati: That was in Ogun state. Rename UNILAG ~ Moshood Abiola University of Lagos, Lagos.
GEJ: I got it! Next year, we can rename OAU ~ Moshood Abiola / Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife.
Abati: Sir, Abiola is not from Osun state
GEJ: Neither is Awolowo!

The NDLEA guys had enough time to doctor the report and turn 'unidentified substance' into drug.

I have been through this same machine many times and nobody ever stopped me. Why would the ndlea want to disgrace or arrest baba suwe if he was clean. I believe baba suwe bribed his way into removing the stuff. He he realy want us to count him lucky, he should just abandon the court case and move on. He got lucky because he had people who move things.

Mr. Globe:
I dont care what you think, Baba Suwe was caught with drugs. A machine detected him with it. They can try to squeeze this story all they want. Baba suwe was caught with drugs. The Ndlea at a time even suspected juju. Baba suwe never protested when he was caught. It was after the ground work and some delays that he started protesting. This detecting machine has been in use and so far as I know, it is competent. You can continue defending him as if you were in his tummy and as if you didnt hear the news of him being caught as I did! Bigots
What's the name of the drug? If Me-Cure cannot identify the substance.

You can continue to attack him as if you're the substance ingested.

GEJ’s stance to root out corruption has inadvertently turned into a sing-along tune which is reminiscent of a toothless bulldog – all roar but no bite.

While the antigraft body preyed on small time
thieves who pocketed petty cash, the big fishes that have been fingered in multimillion naira frauds – or at times even billions of naira – were left to swim free.

Poor governance remains the most potent threat to the quality of democracy in Nigeria. And it is a great pain to the citizenry.
PoliticsNigeria Under GEJ: Gains Or Pains? by brabus(op): 11:44am On May 27, 2012
Each year, we celebrate Democracy day. This is the time we take a comprehensive look at the gains and losses of democracy over
the previous year.

Democracy is much more than just holding free and fair elections. It has to be underpinned by a civil society governed by the rule of law and supported by a politically neutral civil justice system free of corruption. Also required are a free press; respect for minorities; public accountability; business transparency; and the presence of educational, cultural, scientific and religious institutions and NGOs.

Are we likely to see any gains cited as achievements in the democractic scorecard of President Goodluck Jonathan in the next few years?

________

For me, it is an unending pain for the poor. How do poor families spend so much more money than they earn?

Let's discuss.

deenee: I always tell people that the problem with our great country is the mindset and mentality of her citizens! We all agree that lack of stable power supply is a one of the major problems hindering the growth of the economy. Imagine how many SMEs have closed shop and many others battling with running cost tied to power supply. Before we start throwing temper tantrums, I would suggest a cursory look at the transaction documents for the privatization of PHCN. The tarrif quotes herein is still amongst the cheapest in the world and is based on a worst case scenario analysis which implies that once the human and capital infrastructure is on ground prices will eventually fall in line with market forces. Besides, we'll all want stable power supply yet we don't want to pay for it. Of course, the PHCN workers will frown at this because it will no longer be business as usual for them and it has been stated that prepaid meters will be installed so we only get to pay for what we use. I was in Nigeria recently and was surprised when I saw a saw a friend leaving his outdoor lights on in broad daylight yet he will complain when he is slammed with a huge bill. In the US, I pay on average twice of what is proposed in the new tarriff, bearing in mind that I live alone and spend not more than 6-7 hours at home daily. God bless Nigeria!
Cheapest my foot. Come back and enjoy the cheapest tariff nah!

CareerRe: Multinational Company Vs. One Man Business by brabus(m): 6:24pm On May 23, 2012
Shakara123: Whichever you choose is a function of where you want to be, your career goals, whether or not you are lazy or you like a challenging environment...etc.

Like I would always advice, never begin your career in a one-man business if you have a choice to make. A multinational will most likely train you, and prepare you for greater opportunities (if you know what you want). A one man business will make you feel like a star when truly you are not even close.

Have you thought of what happens if the one man biz goes down?

Also consider how future employers will perceive you when you say you have being with Tayo and Co for 4 years as against a known name whose business processes can't be hard to fetch.

Money is never a motivating factor. It is only a hygiene factor. Its presence will not motivate you, but its absence will demotivate you. Never consider pay to knowledge especially as a starter, else you may just become irrelevant soon if not careful.

Life is all about choice and only responsible people accept the fall outs of the choices they make...especially when it does not go well as planned. Think it through and ask good questions. That will guide your decision. Pray too.
Never start your career in a shop!

dayokanu: JK,

The point is that regardless of the plan you make things can still happen. The Zenith banker with a Shop in Alaba can lose his job and within 6months, The Govt seize his container he borrowed to ship. Would you call that laziness or lack of planning?

The people who invested in properties, You know some ppl invested in Properties and El Rufai or AbdulKarim Adisa just sent bulldozers there one day and destroyed everything, Would you say they lacked planning?

What of people who invested heavily in the stock market and the recession swept away their money?

No one in the world is secured from shocks It can happen in Nigeria, It can happen in America
Nice one bro! Nobody knows what the future holds but we can trust who holds the future. It now depends on who or what holds our future (God or Man).

FamilyRe: Couples Please Encourage Me With Your Financial Struggles Stories. by brabus(m): 9:17am On May 22, 2012
davidylan: I'm sorry but the above is nonsense. So God purposely made sure your sister and her husband are living hand to mouth as a testimony to His name? Your sister's case has nothing to do with God but everything to do with poor planning. So many people think that living in the white man's land is an automatic ticket to a good life... i was once one of those. My uncle had a chance to move his family to Scotland thru his wife's job... bobo was working as a small time manager at the Stock exchange then and he flatly refused despite the tearful pleas of his wife and members of the family. His argument - i am already established in a great job here, why go to Scotland where my degree is not recognised to sweep the floor all in the name of living "abroad"? Today? He had the last laugh! He is a big time manager in the stock exchange today... wifey is a top manager at Addax... has a home fully paid for in the US (comes here more times than we can count for vacation sef) and is living LARGE in naija.
What he had was foresight! Your sister and her husband lack it in spades which is why they are suffering today... quit blaming God.

Why shld your sister quit such a plum job for nothing in the UK?
That's your view and congratulations to your Uncle. But if I could ask what else could a man with Phd blame if not fate? I've seen people without education making it big in life and some educated professors struggling to make ends meet.

The race is not to the swift. Beside, the story is inconclusive cos Abraham was 100 before he got a son. No be say Abraham no sabi b*ng Sarah. Na God!
FamilyRe: Couples Please Encourage Me With Your Financial Struggles Stories. by brabus(m): 5:30am On May 22, 2012
Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this wonderful thread.

@OP, this is the time your husband needs you most. Be there for him and God will see you through.

@all, In life we often make plans for future and we foolishly assume that it is we who can decide and control our future but one thing I do know is that God upsets our plans so that we can put him first.

I have a story to support this. My sister only worked 1 year after her youth service in Nigeria as a Lab Technician and was able to genuinely (she's a born-again christian) save money to finance her husband relocation to UK and put up a house and roof it. Her husband came to relocate the family shortly after to the UK in search of greener pasture. It is 8 years after they'd relocated to UK (even with higher qualifications and better job in UK), the house hasn't been completed. And the story is not different from what I read above. They can barely survive. It was another story of 'had I known'

The moral of this story is that God laughs when we make plans. Proverbs 16:9

I've been a songwriter and a producer b4 and I used to play in-progress works (embolden for those who doesn't understand what D'banj leaked) for anyone and everyone nearby but I've found that most people don't tend to give very detailed criticisms. When I did get criticisms, they tended to be about faults that were there because I had played a rough mix.
The problem with a helping ear is that everyone has different taste, and very often the advice will not be neutral. Not every song is supposed to have that big chorus, or please everyone.

Going to critique sessions is great for someone starting out ~ D'Banj is starting afresh.

Comments and feedbacks should indicate pieces that needed fine tuning or might be better considered in a different order. It should delve on the following:

- Length

- Listenablity

- Composition

- Images and feelings evoked

- audience this piece might appeal to

- Lyrics

- other feedback...

And not some benz vs mercedes argument.

________
Now, this is for those who felt D'Banj is doomed for moving on.

The more help you have with your garden the less it belongs to you. MJ left Jackson 5 to become great in life! Don't know why Don Jazzy shelved the song because this production is more like 'the D'Banj' I want to see in the future.

jaybee: I wish all these raining curses on buhari heard or read his comment directly; and then attempt to comprehend it. rather, they are reacting to abati's distractive diatribe. why can't this government and her cronies address the issues raised by buhari instead of attacking him and calling him names?

how long shall poor nigerians continue to remain docile and timid in the face of flagrant intimidation and human rights abuse by covert thieves in government enjoying stolen mandates? buhari is just drawing attention of those in authority to glaring and impending consequences that love of power has hidden from our maximum rulers; which others can clearly see, but have no guts to discuss, not to talk of addressing.

this government should bury her head in shame because with all the resources being spent on the president and his retinue of advisers non of then can see a clear imminent disaster waiting to happen at the slightest opportunity like the general elections and advise appropriately.

i think buhari should be given credit for being patriotic enough to speak, knowing full well the insults that will follow from shameless political jobbers like abati et al. we know this insensitive government will throw away the messenger and the message, and when the consequences of her actions and inactions comes to fruition, they will start pointing accusing fingers to the very person(s) that had forewarned them ! too bad.

what buhari said will come to pass if those who has the power to avert it continue to play on the insensibilities, lethargy and timidity of majority nigerians. goodluck to you all.
